I’m sorry but IMO you can’t compare -insert single player game here- with -insert MMO name here- … a single player game is a finished product (except for the occasional DLC, free or not it may be) while an MMO is not, it’s a work in progress (in the sense that new content is kept getting released throughout the years).
As for living story 2, you had the option to log in during the 2-week release of each episode (just log in, and out again) to unlock them for free. Now you can buy the episodes with gems, which you can get from >ingame< gold. If this is not customer friendly I don’t know what is
hey there, filled it too just wanted to note a couple of typos:
- “prefer to play social” with the option “playing not socially at all” (maybe you wanted to say “prefer to play solo”)?
- “theif” in the profession list
You get 214 from map 100% before HoT. The rest is from hero points from the new maps. There’s no other source.
check out the achievements’ tabs where the red mastery icons are:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Achievement
(Hero tab has a lot, and shouldn’t be very difficult)
You will still be able to use the other weapons on engi, yes I guess rifle is the more viable of the 3 (not counting hammer, don’t have an opinion on that yet) in pve.
As you’ve bought the game, you have more character slots so I suggest creating an engi, a mesmer and a necro, and try them out. Only you can decide what’s fun to play for yourself.
I won’t enter in the whole “meta classes” debate (e.g. necro is not wanted in dungeons etc…), because we’re just 2 days away from HoT and… yeah, just not going there :P

zerk zerk… the Moon Moon of GW2
The only (few) times this has happened to me it’s with merchant NPCs spawned by other players when it happens, as cupcakesandcatnomz (nice name
) said, just select the npc with your mouse.
The craft component of the legendaries will apply to precursors only (i.e. you’ll craft a precursor, to get your legendary), the rest of the process will remain the same (gather the other mats, mystic forge all together etc…).
Also, the “old” precursors will still be obtainable through TP, so:
- if you already have the pre, go for the legendary as with HoT it’ll not be different from now;
- if you don’t have the pre, you may want to wait for HoT to see if it’s more viable the craft or the TP.

“Moving on” /quote
It could become server management from hell… what happens when a ‘start up’ server reaches the end of the LS? What if I want to experience LS just with a new character but I’m in a ‘End of story’ server? What happens with Wvw populations?
It’s just easier to bundle LS in personal stories, instanced. Large scale events, as we got in LS1, could become world bosses, maybe triggered through guild events.
I don’t think they’ll be harder to get, given that we’re also getting new rewards for partecipating in map events (blog post some time ago on new rewards that change weekly, supposed to be cores, T6, etc…)

Dat answer .__. Chapeau!
blue longbows that come to mind:
- ascended with vitality primary stat (kinda expensive though, and not very useful stat-wise :P);
-Arah;
-AC (but only at nighttime);
I think that’s waaaay too many keys handed out for a closed beta, even with a cost of 25 tokens.
Solution: don’t use your beta key and wait to explore HoT together when it comes out :P
RNG /15characters
I’m not against it but.. it’s just a beta key… why go to such lengths for something like this?
I feel there is just no way to please everyone.
- Lottery via mail? “oh noes, why didn’t I get a beta ticket! People who don’t even play got a ticket!”
- RNG drop in game? “Oh noes, it’s RNG why didn’t I get a ticket!”
- (hypothesis:) tickets via high difficulty quests? “oh noes, I just started the game, why can’t I get a ticket?!”
I like your ideas, but I think people will complain anyway :P
Maydrey eats 50*(3-6 times) dust a day tops. If you earn more than that per day, not worth it :P
Also, never got anything REALLY useful out of it (might be me though), but this is the list of what you can expect:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_from_Mawdrey_II
same applies to the star, with the rewards being:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Generosity%27s_Reward
As for myself, I just keep 1k in the mats storage + 9 stacks in my personal bank for each material. The rest, I delete (that is, I’ve been deleting them for a while now)
lol’d, thanks
It’s bi-weekly when season (sorry :P) is up; we can’t honestly expect bi-weekly updates all year long (for free nonetheless…)
Anyway, It’s “Living” because the world IS actually changing in time (see for example Lion’s arch Then&Now, or the fugly ex-tower in Kessex Hills), whereas in other mmos (at least the ones I played), the open zones are pretty much always the same (especially the starter zones)
Basically, yes. You’ll get shovels+keys just by doing quests too.
I think it’s a matter of perspective. I have leveled 8 alts to 80 with the “old system”, and levelling 2 more under the NPE. Sure I find it different, but not very much. The major thing for me is the trait locking behind specific events, but I don’t find it aggravating, it’s just something more you can do in the game (pve wise). If I tire of it, I can always buy them.
I don’t agree on weapon skills unlock with levels, I preferred it as it was before, but eh, I’ll live with it.
so, TL,DR: I don’t find it “bad” per se, it’s just different.
Heya, no need to save your exotics and stuff, the new precursors will be obtained through a specific mastery+craft; try going through this:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-legendary-journey/
Hope this helps :P
if you bought/unlocked season 2, you can play it after you finish your personal story; you can start it from your personal story panel (H—> “star” icon). I’m guessing season 3 will work in the same way (that is, you can start it when you want to).
Also, I think you need to be 80 to play season 2 (not 100% sure though), so just enjoy the base game for the moment
And no, don’t skip it!! :P If you don’t want to pay for it you can ask a guildie/friend who has it to play through it with you; that way, you can experience the story (but won’t access the rewards/achievements)
gaaah AdaephonDelat beat me to it!!! :P
hey there
You’ll need:
- tailor 500 (not really a problem from 0 to 400, from 400 to 500 it’ll cost a bit… you’ll basically need to discover 20-25 exotic recipes and craft them, which means 5 ectos each+ other T6 mats)
- buy the “wupwup” ascended recipes (celestial stats, you can look it up on gw2 wiki) from the tailoring npc vendor
- get all the materials for the craft itself (bunch of stuff, see guide ^^")
I can detail all this more if you need, ofc :P
Also, if your goal is WvW you might want to craft exotic instead of ascended. Ascended gear is really needed only in high levels fractals (for the agony resistance). The %difference between exotic and ascended is laughable :P
It was the same for me until I decided to try the lame method :P Follow the guide, it’ll be boring but you’ll get it done pretty fast (took me about a week, playing in the evenings only).
Giants I’m doing it too, getting 10 kills/day (brisban event with the golem), it’ll be finished in 3 months hopefully.
Focus was the hardest for me, it’s slower than shield. Managed both “together” by switching weapon set. Still, shield finished waay earlier than focus (something like 2k kills in advance).
I’m still missing trident though, so no idea if that’s even slower (but I’m guessing not)
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1nt29f/complete_guide_to_weapon_master_achievements/ theeere you go
I should be able to have a break for a while and still go back to it without missing too much.
To not spend money on LS, it’s your choice of course; what you are missing are only the achievements. So yes, you can take a break and not spend any money and still enjoy it.
If missing the achievements is “missing too much”, it’s debatable and entirely personal.
You can still play through all LS2 missions with a friend/guildie who has it (and chances are, you have at least one :P).
Maps are free of charge, forever (with all events/collections etc…)
^ this. It really depends on the pug you pick :P e.g.: I don’t mind necros, but then I don’t do speed runs and never advertise special requirements in LFG (5k AP, red hair only, etc…).
…..
otherwise you might want to craft the exotic ones (the accessories, not the weapons :P with opal orbs), which is basically the same as ascended.Pretty sure the stats are NOT equal….
Ascended Amulet = +126, +85, +85
Exotic Amulet (w/ jewel) = +115, +79, +79(others are similarly less stats and no it’s not a lot of difference)
Also, Ascended items have the infusion slot available. There are numerous Ascended Jewelry item stat combos that are unavailable (by normal means or in limited quantity) that should be added to the game.
“cough” “cough” Ascended Jeweler “cough” “cough”
Of course they aren’t EXACTLY the same, it’s still Ascended vs Exotic :P What I meant is, they’re still Assassin stats but are craftable, and the difference in stats is laughable (except for AR, which you only use in fractals anyway).
But, I didn’t know about the vendor unlock thing! Thanks for the info!!
mmmh I think you can only get those 2, ascended and assassin: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_ascended_trinkets
otherwise you might want to craft the exotic ones (the accessories, not the weapons :P with opal orbs), which is basically the same as ascended.
Also, you can click on the eye icon in each achiev, it’ll save the achiev on your “watch list”, visible on your screen on the top right corner at all times (it’ll show % progression)
“Kitten nal”… I lol’d
ON topic though, I support this (and I haven’t even started the drytop weapons collection, much less spirit crafter :P); it’s “something else to do” if you’re into collections, and it hsould be easy to add ingame.
try reading this: http://dulfy.net/2014/06/30/gw2-necromancer-pve-guide-by-spoj/
usually necro is the least desired class in pugs (picky, picky,… :/)
11 hours later last post: still having issues? Did the d/l finish?
For PvE everything is good (so, in your case, ranger or ele), but for dungeon speed clears and high lvl fractals most people in LFG would choose an ele over a ranger.
All I can say is, they’re very different in playstyle so you might think about trying both (you should have characters slots available), and then decide later on
Hello Scrump and Welcome!!
For the hearts: if you can get to level 10 you start your personal story (which is nice exp); if you’re still too far from that (e.g. starting lvl 9 now), I suggest going to your racial city (that is, Divinity’s Reach if you’re human, etc..), go through the asura gate (big pink circle on the map) to LA (Lion’s Arch). From there there you can go through one of the other asura gates to the other cities. Exit the city you’ve choosen and you’re in a new 1-15 map (new hearts and map to explore—> exp :P)
OMG! really??? ç___ç
I really dont’ get this thread (and the ones similar to this one):
- if you’re a ‘veteran’ player, you get the episodes for free just by logging in and out once every 2 weeks (and only during LS updates which ARE NOT every 2 weeks all year round): waste of time: 10 mins (if patch is REALLY big and/or your internet is really slow :P)
ok, you had grad school, other people had other stuff too (jobs etc…), still they logged in (and out, just that), because they were interested in it.
- if you’re a new player, when you log in for the first time you have so much stuff to do that by the time you’re on LS2 you’ll have the 20g to unlock it.
It’s not much and more importantly, <ins>it’s not real currency</ins>!
- if you have a friend in game that has unlocked it you don’t even have to pay that (you basically just pay for the possibility to get the achievements), but can play the story with him.
-The decision to make LS repeatable was probably made after feedback from LS1 so Anet couldn’t know they’d have this business model at launch.
- Anet is a business after all; yet they’re not charging for anything else, surely we can accept this commercial decision?
Are you guys mad that you have to pay, or that people who logged in at the time got it for free?
somewhat OT: oh god(s) why, I just pictured Rytlock with a priest robe on (reverenD)
AuroraPeachy uploaded stuff too on her youtube channel (vlog of her trip and an interview with Colin)
You know that makes me sad. Im weaponsmith AND armorsmith, but crafting ingots is a part of both of those, but you only get points for 1 craft. you should get them for both realistically. I dont see the need for ws and as to be 2 different crafts at all.
Unfortunately i started WS first, so that means i need to start over as AS. kitten
Just don’t rush it, AS and WS are VERY easy to level up with ingots because you can gather the ore everywhere, anytime you want
Leatherwork and tailor on the other hand depend on leather and cloth which drop from mobs+salvage (or TP), so they’re rarer.
Crafting my ascended light armor was a pain… whether I got the heavy one immediately (not counting the time gated craft components).
