Well I found this post by doing a Google search of “Code=178:9:13:2932:101” (with nothing else added!). Yes, I have the identical problem in Dragon’s Stand (although the circumstances leading up to it were slightly different).
The key thing is that, like the original poster, if you need to restart GW2 for any reason, it seems that the server cannot re-connect you to the instance you were in when you use the “Join in Dragon’s Stand” option on an online squad member.
The “Please check your Internet connection and try again.” part is pure BS. My connection is fine and in fact I have a snapshot showing the blue dots for squad members who were still moving around in the islands in the instance that the server would not let me rejoin.
Unlike some players, I am well deposed towards ArenaNet and understand how difficult it must be to produce such amazing content, without too many bugs or “design limitations”. I still feel, however, that this particular issue is causing a lot of grief amongst the player community, along with some of the other different bugs that can cause DS to fail right at the end after 2hrs+ involvement by the players.
One of the things I loved about the original guild wars, was that if I had a computer or gw problem and had to restart gw, even after a few minutes, I was given the option to try and rejoin the instance, which almost invariably worked (unless there was a genuine Internet or network problem). That was a wonderful feature, especially when doing long missions in hard mode in a party of 8 or less, where loosing one person was significant. It must be much more difficult with the numbers in gw2, but surely it could be done?
I will add on a positive note, that I do LOVE the battles in DS and fighting the “Mouth of Mordremoth” amongst the islands is truly an epic battle, that I personally can put up with wasting 2 hrs plus effort with no end rewards about 1 in 4 times I have managed to join an “organised” map instance that has a chance of completing it.
I have only experienced 1 time where a failure was due to player ineptitude, all other times were fail due to bug, this one or one of the others (like the one where what should be the end cutscene, instead throws everyone out of the instance!).
Shipwreck Peak Waypoint not enabled or visible?
Using my new L80 Revenant, after successful completion of 1. Prologue: Rally to Maguuma (and the following chapter 2. Torn from the Sky), I was about to progress 3. Establishing a Foothold, when GW2 crashed.
On reloading it, and that character again, I was at the Camp Resolve Waypoint in The Silverwastes, but could not “Return to the jungle” as in the chapter, as on my map I have no Shipwreck Peak Waypoint enabled (or even visible) in Verdent Brink.
I have tried nearly everything to try to overcome this problem, which is preventing this character progressing with the Heart of Thorns storyline, without success.
Things that I have tried include:
1) Successfully completing 1. Prologue: Rally to Maguuma on a different L80 character (which gave me the Shipwreck Peak Waypoint), actually followed by 2. Torn from the Sky, then after gaining my first Mastery point and using it for Glider Basics, 3. Establishing a Foothold. Problem is, after switching back to my Revenant, I still do not have the Shipwreck Peak Waypoint.
2) On my Revenant, I have tried very hard to reach the green swirl that is showing in The Silverwastes, but it is at the far side of a cave that you can only enter after certain events have occurred. I have thoughly explored the whole area, with all items complete except one underground POI which I have not found a way to get to yet, but after the Meta Events I did get to the underground cave “The Labyrinth” and to the POI in the middle, where I opened the chest. I tried several times to get to the green swirl at the far side, but died each time and was then kicked out of the area when the event reset.
3) I thought I might try to restart the whole Heart of Thorns storyline from the beginning, using my Revenant, but it does not appear to be possible to do that? If you select 2. Torn from the Sky you can click “Replay This Chapter”, but that does not help. If you select 1. Prologue: Rally to Maguuma, there is no option to replay it.
I am attaching a snapshot of the map as seen by my Revenant.
I really hope someone from ArenaNet (Gaile?) could tell me what I should do?
Should I enter a support ticket on this issue too? <- – - (not necessary now)
UPDATE
Well, I managed to fix the problem, with a little help from my friends, so I thought I would update this post to say how, as it might help someone else.
Basically, I whispered an old friend who had joined another guild which has Gilded Hollow as a Guild Hall. I joined his guild, went to his guild hall and then attempted to run to the Shipwreck Peak Waypoint from there.
After getting to the Surface Tunnel Waypoint, I left the GH, and was initially stuck as I could not enter the forgotten city door, but after talking to the NPC outside I got out into Auric Basin proper. A guild member showed me the way to the portal into Verdant Brink so I went through to get to the Treacherous Path Waypoint.
I was intending to the run all the way to the Surface Tunnel Waypoint, but was ambushed on the way there and died. On doing M to view the map, I was delighted to see the Shipwreck Peak Waypoint, so map travelled there. I was able to do the 3. Establishing a Foothold quest and now have 4. Jungle Provides active.
I am attaching another snapshot to show where I am now, plus my markup of basically how I got there! There was obviously a bug, but fortunately I have overcome it (with help from friends). I am enjoying the new storyline and love the gliding, even with the basic skill

I have regularly played Guild Wars 2 since beta and the original Guild Wars for years before that, originally from San Diego, California and for the last 4 years + from Cornwall in England, UK, using the Crystal Desert, American server for GW2 and USA server for GW.
Although at various times over the years I have occasionally seen some connection issues, in general things have worked very well for me, up until the last update. I am now regularly receiving a dialog box in-game stating:
The game client is unable to gain access to the
log-in server at this time. This is most
commonly caused by firewall or router
settings, security applications, or connecting
through a campus network. For additonal
support, please visit
http://support.guildwars2.com.
(Code:42:1000:9001:4131:101)
The symptoms when this happens are that although I am still successfully playing the game, either in a general area with other players around, or in an instanced personal story event on my own, the following problems exist:
1) When I bring up the Guild dialog, a lot of the time, I am the only player that appears online, although that is not always the case.
2) Even if the other players are correctly shown online in the Guild Dialog and I can read there Guild chat messages, when I type something on the /guild channel and hit return, the message is not displayed and it is obvious that it has not actually been sent as nobody acknowledges it.
3) If I right-click someone shown online in the guild list and select Whisper, nothing happens in the chat screen.
I am an IT professional and have tried a doing a number of things at my end to see if they would help resolve the problem, including adding a DMZ to my computer on the router, temporarily disabling my firewall and microsoft security essentials, but none of this may any difference and anyway there had been no changes to my system or settings for many months, so it is unlikely to be a problem at my end. I have reasonably fast fibre broadband via the BT Infinity service.
The problem seems to resolve itself given time logged on, as has just happened whilst checking my gw2 window. I am a guild leader, so it is very disruptive for my guild, but I have just successfully whispered back and forth with my second in command, but I would be interested to hear of others experience of this particular error and if it is something they have only had recently, like myself?
e-Mail from "ArenaNet?" Please read! [merged]

Well these phishing attempts are definitely not a laughing matter, but whoever is responsible failed miserably to snag me. The interesting part is who might that be?
I thought I would provide some information from my experience, as it might help the ArenaNet detective service…
The email that I received just over an hour ago was similar to the convincing looking one posted by AdelaisAer.4109. The thing is that it was sent to the email address that I only use for third-party Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 sites, never for anything connected with my actual gw and gw2 accounts (ncsoft or ArenaNet).
Real ArenaNet emails connected with my (two) gw2 accounts are always sent to the respective email for the relevant account. On checking my email, the last one I received from ArenaNet with subject line “Authorize log-in attempt” was on 14 March 2013, to the correct email address for that account.
Note: My second gw2 account uses a different email address. I receive those type of emails, when expected, after my broadband is disconnected and reconnected again. For some odd reason, it often happens that my new WAN Internet IP is in a completely different part of the UK to where I actually live. Fortunately, my broadband rarely disconnects now and actually the last authorize email is from when I was accessing GW2 from my laptop at my brother’s house and was in a different part of the UK.
So, from my experience, I can say categorically that the email used for the phishing attempt to me was definitely not obtained from any ArenaNet or NCSoft source, as I have never used that email address in connection with either.
I hope that this re-assures readers that ArenaNet databases are very unlikely to have been hacked, rather one of the “fan sites” has, instead.
As a further note, ArenaNet may like to re-think the “Authorize log-in attempt” email system, as those emails do require you to click a link at present, and for those people currently only using a single email address, it would be much harder for them to identify what is real, or not. It rather defeats the object of that system to make things more secure.
The issue is line of sight, if you jump up on the edge of the wall you will find barrage will work better for you.
Well some things here:
- My line of sight is fine and my Norn ranger is much taller than my Human thief, not that that matters.. lol
- Jumping on the wall edge just makes you bigger target and is not necessary on my thief.
- Key thing is that a longbow should be able to target anything within a shortbow range, but this is bugged so you can’t do that!
It would be nice if development did some stuff to improve ranger bow use, I get nostalgic for gw1 where a ranger could out range any other profession with a longbow. I firmly believe that this should be the case in gw2 as well.
I consider the main issue I raise here to be a bug, although development may consider part of my text is an intended “design limitation”?
I play WvW a lot using either a L80 Ranger or L80 Thief and I have become increasingly annoyed about the inability to use a Ranger Longbow properly when trying to defend a fort, as compared with a Thief Shortbow.
Let me state first of all that I have thought for a long time that the ranges of the two bows in the game are non-sensible, i.e.
1. Longbow (surely this should offer the longest range?)
- Ranger Use – Range 1,200 for all skills except Point Blank Shot (Range 600)
- Warrior Use – Range 900 for all skills except Combustive Shot (Range 1,200)
2. Shortbow (surely this should generally be shorter range than longbow?)
- Ranger Use – Range 1,200 (why same as longbow?)
- Thief Use – Range 900 for all skills except Cluster Bomb (Range 1,200)
It would have seemed more sensible to me that:
A) A Warrior bow be Shortbow, not a Longbow (in line with Thief), with only one exceptional skill providing the longer 1,200 range.
B) The Ranger Shortbow should be inline with A) with range of 900, except for one exceptional skill giving 1,200.
C) The Ranger Longbow should provide one exceptional skill with a longer range of 1,500 … the skill exist with the right name “Long Range Shot” so why not give it that range to compensate for shortening shortbow ranges?
Anyway, back to the “bug” itself, as I see it. The main problem (and my intense frustration with in WvW) is that the “targetting” for the Barrage Ranger Longbow skill appears to be broken, compared with the Cluster Bomb Thief Longbow skill.
I took a series of snapshots to try to visually show what I mean, but unfortunately, the green or red concentric circles used for targeting the skills do not display on the snapshots. I will include one snapshot to show the main position used for my tests which was inside Sunnyhill Tower in the Crystal Desert Borderlands.
Basically, as a Thief, you are able to target most areas outside of the fort using Cluster Bomb, but as a Ranger, using Barrage (which is meant to have the same range) the identical areas cannot be targeted, as the concentric targeting rings are always red.
As a Ranger, the only time you can actually get the green concentric rings to action the Barrage skill is when targeting points outside of the range that can be targeted by the Thief skill (and not useful areas where attackers congregate), or target the tower wall with an overlap so that as a Ranger you can only hit attackers immediately adjacent to the wall.
Please look at the firing position in the snapshot, confirm what I have said and fix this ASAP. At the moment, it seems ironic that a basically melee profession can do a much better job defending a fort with a bow in WvW than a Ranger!
When you also take into account that professions such as Elementalist have no problem targeting you on the wall with their red circles to hit you with massive ele damage, as a Ranger you feel totally useless trying to defend unless you can use a canon, arrow cart or ballista, etc.

“Upgrade” Issues between Servers / Worlds
There appears to be a loss of upgrade history when a guild member moves to a different home world.
I have currently have two guild wars accounts, my main one is using “Arrowmaster.7194”, and my second one uses “Lady Ann Rose.2064”.
Description of Problems
As some of our members including two officers changed home world to help friends, I did so myself on my main account from the normal home world of “Crystal Desert” to temporary one of “Gate of Madness”.
I was most put out to find I could not use our guild vault, with the NPC saying we did not have one, so checked the upgrade history (see attached snapshot upgrades_gofm.jpg). None of the upgrades that I did were listed, but some upgrades were listed carried out by one of our officers named “WHO.5421”.
On simultaneously logging in to my “Lady Ann Rose.2064” account from a different computer, the upgrades that I did were all listed correctly (note: this account is still using the “Crystal Desert” home server / world (see attached snapshots upgrades_cd1.jp and upgrades_cd2.jpg).
My Questions
1) Are Guilds and Guild Upgrades meant to work across all worlds?
2) Can our guild be credited with the 1000 influence spent by “WHO.5421” on the “Gate of Madness” server, for building “Architecture Level 1” and “Guild Workshop”, which I had already built as “Arrowmaster.7194” on the “Crystal Desert” server / world?
3) When is the “guest” world / server stuff going to be implemented and how will that effect Guilds and Guild Upgrades?
Notes:
1. I blanked out part of the “Message of the Day” text in green in the snapshots, but it was shown identically on the two servers, even though the update history was different.
2. I will be moving my main “Arrowmaster.7194” account back to the “Crystal Desert” server / world as soon as I am able to (in something under 2 hours time, a day after I switched yesterday).
Server: Crystal Desert

I have just discovered something that appears to be related to some of the problems with the Guild functions, so I thought I would post it as it may help both developers and some players. It seems to be related to the introduction of the “Authorize log-in attempt” email security functionality.
I will try and keep this concise, but basically we have been suffering from local power cuts and lost of Internet functionality recently. I live in Cornwall in the southwest of England, using BT Infinity unlimited broadband (up to 40 Mbit/s). This has resulted in a new IP address being allocated to our home (too regularly), which in turn triggers the “Authorize log-in attempt” functionality.
Well I have two GW2 accounts, the main one as leader of our guild, another as an officer in it. The sequence of events recently was this:
1) IP address changed.
2) “Authorize log-in attempt” triggered when attempting to log in using main account.
3) email from ArenaNet including this information:
Address: <my IP address>
City: <the supposed city I am thought to be in – actually incorrect, as different county!>
Region: D6
Country: GB
4) As I knew the login attempt was from myself, I clicked the link and confirmed that it should be allowed, which resulted in a “Success” page, plus the game client successfully logged in.
5) Although in-game, the guild dialog correctly showed me as leader, lot of functionality was not working correctly, including:
- Right-clicking a member and selecting “Whisper” did nothing in the chat box. Even manually entering the users name as a whisper and trying to send them a message, did nothing when return pressed.
- Under “Current Upgrades” only some were shown, the currently active “+5% Influence for 24 hours” that should have been shown as running (with countdown clock) was missing, and the Build Queue was not showing anything, even though I knew a build was still running.
- Other functionality just would not work, e.g. clicking any “Activate” button would do nothing.
- Even though the “Current Upgades” correctly listed that we have a “Guild Vault” (bank), talking to the “Guild Bank” npc did not show it, but resulted in a dialog saying that our guild does not currently have one.
- When attempting to edit the “Message of the Day” nothing happens when pressing the Edit button. Note: There is a problem with that normally anyway, in that edit should bring up the current text to allow you to edit it, rather than give you a blank (and very small) edit box – but that is another issue!
Now what fixed it:
6) I attempted to simultaneously log in to guild wars 2 from another computer using my secondary account and got the “Authorize log-in attempt” functionality again (probably as it is still using the same IP address as the main account).
7) I receive another ArenaNet email to the email associated with my second account (similar to the first one) and after clicking the link and authorizing it, I could successfully log in to that account too.
8) After going back to my main computer, suddenly all the guild functions are now working properly again and the in-game chat is working too. Also, talking to the “Guild Bank” npc now correctly shows the guild vault.
Sorry that that was longer than I expected, but I hope that helps someone!

Ranger Animal Magic [RAM]
- Type: International Casual/Social – Primarily PvE and WvW
- World: Crystal Desert (North America)
- Wiki Website: http://ram.gamewiki.me
About us
RAM is a guild in both the original Guild Wars (see Guild:Ranger Animal Magic on on Guild Wars wiki) and Guild Wars 2.
We welcome all races and professions, but we especially welcome players who love playing as a Ranger on at least one character. A lot of the content on our guild wiki will be geared towards that profession, although we will have content for social events, guild activities, etc. too and as it is a wiki all our members are able to contribute to content themselves.
RAM has always been very International, with members from all over the world, including many who do not have English as their native language. We currently have leaders living in England, USA and Australia in GW2 and have had many other countries represented in GW1.
We use Skype text chat (conversations) to keep in touch, as you can catch up on messages left in our Ranger Animal Magic [RAM] Guild Chat and RAM Noticeboard Skype chat groups while you were offline. Vital information will always be sent to you via in-game mail.
We are actively building guild updates, to offer our members the best facilities as soon as possible. In-game, we currently have:
- Guild Emblem
- Guild bank vault
- lots of different types of boons and banners, etc.
and we will be working to provide everything available for a guild, over time.
Joining our guild
We very much welcome new members, so please contact me in-game (Arrowmaster.7194, Tanya Arrowmaster) or via Skype (my Skype name is arrowmasterdo), if you are considering joining.
We are looking for new members that are:
- Mature (18+ preferred, though this is not essential)
- Friendly and like to chat sometimes in guild chat.
- Helpful and nice to other players
- Willing to help the guild grow
- Interested in playing as a Ranger (although that is not essential)
New members in GW2 are initially set to Joiner rank, and promoted to full Member rank, with access to our guild bank vault, etc, after they have fulfilled these simple requirements:
- They use the Represent button in the Guild Dialog to represent the guild (at least initially, although we do not mind members being members of other guilds too).
- They create a user account on our http://ram.gamewiki.me guild wiki.
- They add me as a Skype contact and send me a text message, so that I can add them to the guild chat groups (my Skype name is arrowmasterdo).
Thank you for reading this!
Remember, whatever you do, have fun doing it!
