NVIDIA windows kernel mode driver issue

I had the same issues, but I reinstalled some older gfx drivers which hasn’t given me any TDR yet. I don’t know if the new drivers are just poorly written, but I can say it started with the 31×.xx drivers up until the latest release which caused the same issue.

How do I remove a driver and replace it with an older one? It refused to just let me install it.

Go here for older GPU drivers.

I was using 306.97, and it still gave me the TDR error. kitten

I just got the TDR thing in Starcraft 2, so it’s not only in GW2 as originally thought, but I have no idea what to do about it. MSI Afterburner doesn’t seem to show anything that would justify a TDR. I’ve tried to put the delay up to 8 seconds, but it still happens. Made some changes, and it still happens. I can’t see what would be wrong with my RAM. My GPU could just be faulty overall, but seeing as it could just be dumb drivers or some setting somewhere that did it, it would be a shame to change a graphic card for no reason at all. Pretty sure I had the error before I changed graphic card too. But I could be wrong….

314.14 are giving horrible performance for gw2.I;m using it for Tombraider, since it gives way better sli scaling.Otherwise i would have popped back to previous drivers some days ago…What im saying,Rollback you drivers to a WHQL one.

I don’t think it’s the drivers, had the issue for some time now.

You don´t know sure untill you try it.Worth a shot.

I’m currently using 314.07, and it still happens. It also happened in versions before that.

Did you try to reinstall any of your other drivers ? Corrupted mobo drivers with Nvida drivers ontop of that, can do the same thing.

I wanted to try 296.97 or whatever the last one was before 310.xx started, some says it can potentially fix these kind of issues, but I couldn’t find anything below the 300’s on their legacy drivers. Or did I miss an option to find even older drivers?

Also when is the last time you did a fresh image on your pc? This may sound a little on the hardcore side. However working a tier tech and doing os imaging on a daily basis. I would rec. for any gamer to refresh their os atleast twice a year. Or every 6 months. You may have registry errors causing these issues.

Some time ago, but I like to put it off. My computer still has some leftovers ruins from last time.

These issues can always be hard to diagnose…esp games since its either the game or system. However what I mean by configure is int he bios your ram will have xmp profiles I would select an xmp profile if your not to knowledgeable on ram configuration. This will allow the ram to run at rated speed/voltage. However that is a suggestion. Also in the NVidia control panel select single monitor display if only using one monitor.

I changed it to single monitor display, but it happened again after a little time had passed. The problem is becoming increasingly annoying, especially during events, dungeons or fractals is it complete hell.

how do i fix this?

idk where that is at lol

The error has a show details button on it. If you click that and then takes a picture, there will be more information provided. Just do that next time it happens.

Have you checked more than just drivers…sounds like you have bad/unstable memory if keep getting this… for example have a friend who rescently was getting about the same error. After him dropping out so many times in wvw I got annoyed lol. Went to his house checked is rig and sure enough his overclock on his gpu wasn’t as astable as he thought also. His ram was not properly configured in the bios. Once I corrected the issue. The guy has played a week straight not a single crash.

Is there a sign that shows if it’s not correctly configured? Under system information it says I have all my 16 GB of ram installed, but is that confirmation not enough? I also don’t overclock my GPU using any programs.

I had the same thing happening with GeForce 310.90 drivers when they came out, kernel errors and even blue screens, that forced me to restart the computer. Great fun in the middle of an instance. Of course this only happened in GW2 too, nothing else had any problems with those drivers. I rolled back to GeForce 306.97 drivers, no uninstall or anything, just replaced them with an install and not another blue screen since then.

I have heard of people who use the 306.97 drivers too. I might try to see if 310.00+ is just cursed.

It seems to usually happen at relatively quiet places, I’ve noticed. Lion’s Arch at the crafting places seems to be a popular place for it to happen. I read that if it thinks it’s frozen, it will do a TDR. It seems absurd that it would think it’s frozen because too little happens though.

I will try to confirm it only happens at quiet places.

EDIT: Well, it happens when not too much is happening, I don’t think it thinks it’s frozen though. Since it doesn’t happen at big zergs or anythings, I assume it’s not overheating or something like that. It only happens in GW2, played Far Cry 3 without those problems, and I think that game would stress it more than GW2, no?

Not sure what else to check or what to do to narrow it down.

EDIT EDIT: Happens a lot in Lion’s Arch.

Consensus around the intertubes is that 314.14 doesn’t like to overclock as much as previous driver versions. So turn down your overclock a bit (assuming you are OC’d).

I’ve never overclocked my graphic card, but is there a way to check if it’s overclocked in any way by default?

“NVIDIA windows kernel mode driver 314.14 has stopped working, but recovered.”

I’m getting this error a lot when playing GW2, no matter where I am. It’s infuriating. The screen will go black, and after a few seconds it will return, but everything is laggy. If I had any web browsers up, they will all be black pages. Sometimes Alt-Tab in and out will remove it, but after a few times it will remain until I restart the game. I have no idea what to do about it. I have a GTX 660ti graphic card.

Will the WHOLE event end the 1th November?

I wasn’t entirely sure if the patch would remove the party, or it would remove everything Halloween in the game. I was under the expression the event would remain until the 5th, except for the special Mad King Day Party.

Talking about story mode or exploreable? Because exploreable is for organised groups who want to learn and get experienced, while story mode is for story and dungeons for the lesser.

If it’s story mode, then you’re probably doing something wrong, if it’s exploreable, get some experience and it will become easier.

Thank You Anet

Explorable Modes is for organized and skilled groups, which has always been the case it seems. If you wanna do them, but can’t, then you should probably either join up in a guild, ask them to be on some teamspeak thing or whatever, or just up your game.

Now, about rewards. I find tokens to be a long term goal in the dungeon, which makes it okay that it’s something you need to run the dungeon a lot of times to get, but the problem is that tokens is the only thing you really can show for doing the dungeon. “It took a long time to complete this dungeon guys, but now, behold! 30 tokens! Just 12-19 more times and it will actually mean anything at all!”

There should be a short term goal. Completing one dungeon should give a reward that makes running that one dungeon worth it, where the tokens can be a reward that makes it worth running the dungeon 20 times. Maybe a chest in the end that gives crafting materials appropriate to level, where 80’s would get some of the Tier 6 stuff, like Armored Scales, Ancient Bones, Hardened Leather Scraps, that kind of stuff. Maybe a chance for a Glob of Ectoplasm. Just STUFF that is kind of rare to get in the world, and would make dungeons worth doing one of, and feel like it gave good stuff. There’s so much you need to make a legendary, drop these kind of things into the bag.

Skirmishing -Trap Potency is a must for trap-condition builds.

Marksmanship – Signet of the Beastmaster is awesome for anybody that uses at least two signets (aka me, got 30 points in MM for PvP.)

Nature Magic – Spirits Unbound is a MUST for Spirit builds.

If you ain’t running a spirit build, trap build, or have 2+ signets, then they’re passable.

Because Anet has this magical power that lets them detect the number of runs people have done? Interesting.

But that does make me interested if they have an actual hidden statistic that tracks total dungeon runs.

Hosting the servers makes it rather easy for them to know all kinds of things, like how many times a random item has dropped and such. Blizzard was able to tell everyone at Blizzcon 2010 how many times the Lich King had been killed, bet ANet can do the same stuff.

Every profession is useful, and it’s bring the player, not the profession. HOWEVER, you can’t go in with a glass cannon build unless you’re incredibly skilled at avoiding damage. The trinity is gone, which means you have to take care of yourself.

Haven’t done it myself YET, but adding explorable modes with alternative approaches to Zhaitan, like one for each of the three orders, might help out. They’d be harder, and optional for the ones that enjoys getting stomped by an Elder Dragon.

The fact that we have a good chance of saving ourselves with the pet res is amazing. While some may argue that you’re toast in PvP, I did come across a situation today in a PvP match where I could save myself with the pet res. The finish cancel can in some situations also buy you enough time to be saved, if you ain’t silly and alone.

Is it worth buying recipes?

I bought all recipes, way quicker for leveling up the crafting, and if you keep your level and your crafting side by side, stuff you could use for a fair amount of levels.

Pets and a Lack of F2 Responsiveness

Arrowstorm.3941

I wish the pets were something we could chose to not use. Their overall ineffectiveness and constant micro-management are a burden. I wish they were a Trait we would spec into, similar to GW1.

It’s our profession specific mechanic, so I doubt that will happen.

Rangers! Tell us how you play

Arrowstorm.3941

I like getting in melee range as a ranger simply because I can. :P

Toughness/Vitality, or prepare to eat a lot of dirt. Melee range is for the brave.

Toughness for direct damage, vitality for conditions, and conditions can be dealt with other ways, like Signet of the Wild and condition removals like Signet of Renewal, Brown Bear, and Healing Spring.

How I play:

Weapons: Shortbow and Sword/Warhorn.

Pets: Brown or Black Bear + Jungle Spider. Underwater is Jellyfish and Armorfish.

Heal: Healing Spring.

Utilities: Signet of Stone, Signet of the Wild, and Muddy Terrain. I swap out Signet of Stone with Signet of Renewal if the fight is going to have a lot of condition damage involved (Sorrow’s Embrace golem fight, looking at you.)

Elite: Rampage As One.

Traits: 25/25/20/0/0.

Stats: Power > Precision > Condition Damage > Toughness > Healing Power = Vitality. Healing Power because of Signet of the Wild.

What pets do you use for what purpose?

in Ranger

Posted by: Arrowstorm.3941

Arrowstorm.3941

PvE: Brown bear for condition removal, my kryptonite as toughness stacking ranger. Maybe black bear if conditions ain’t a threat. I use a spider with it, since a pet that is ranged and can immobilize is useful in dungeons and overall.

PvP: Hyena, because they are fairly strong, and spider, since players rarely seems to bother much with pets that isn’t directly in their face.

1H Sword and Responsiveness

It’s very annoying that when you’re using a sword, you sometimes gets killed because you can’t move away from the thing you’re attacking, especially dungeons and PvP.

My opinion: utility abilities lackluster

in Ranger

Posted by: Arrowstorm.3941

Arrowstorm.3941

I like Signets, and I always have two. Usually Stone and Wild, using Renewal when conditions is a serious threat. However, besides Stone, I agree that using the active is not very attractive.

Spirits is indeed a thing you need to spec into if it’s going to be useful. They don’t personally intrigue me a lot, so eh.

Sick ’Em is for pet people.
