I mean one of the villains in the game are stereotypical undead (the risen). Think of the disconnect that would be in the game if you could summon the same undead monsters you character is supposed to be fighting against

No disconnect at all since numerous games have done this… so like any D&D games or Diablo 2…

ArenaNet really dropped the ball on the Necromancer. We told them the class was pretty crap during BWEs but it never got fixed.

If GW1 is of any indication the game will just turn into FOTM builds with constant nerfs and zero buffs.

My Vampiromancer feels viable in sPvP. Let me know what you think.

In an ideal world the Necromancer can do these builds effectively:
- Life stealing Necromancer that uses her life as another energy a la GW1 style with skills that sacrifice a % of your life based on your max life. This makes for interesting play where the Necromancer casts some very powerful spells that deals burst damage but loses life in doing so and has other spells that allow herself to drain health from others to heal.
- Minion Master Necromancer that is extremely tanky based on the minion she has (this seems to be what ArenaNet intends) and minions are able to focus fire. The Necromancer must use her minion skills to CC her opponents because she has no utility skills to help her survive. Maybe a minion-bomber variation as well.
- Condition-spreading Necromancer that deals more damage as time goes on. This is what most Necromancer play at the moment.
- Support-based Necromancer that heals her allies. Maybe there are interesting spells such as healing by sacrificing her own health and then gaining health by draining health of enemies. Maybe something interesting like Order of the Vampire.
- A power based Necromancer that tries to maintain in DS as much as possible and when she is not she has skills to help her gain massive amount of life force. In DS she is able to wreck everything.

But this is not a perfect world, and life draining sucks because it just doesn’t give you enough health back at higher level nor does it deal enough damage. Add to that the Necromancer has terrible mobility and low survivability…

I wouldn’t say the golem is the smartest one. It likes to randomly hit stuff and can’t swim.

Necromancer for PVE?

Know that every build you run in the game benefits from kiting. You might not need to do it to win a fight but it’s a lot more efficient if you do. Just keep that in mind.

For melee characters you can circle strafe without losing DPS. For casters you can do the same but getting hit is more punishing due to lower survivability (generally… there are tanky builds that out tank a damage-oriented melee class, for example).

To be fair after playing a Warrior and Thief underwater Necromancer is A LOT BETTER than them.

Necros: GW2's "dynamic leveling system" & you = a love story?

necros are unbeatable in farming ability. they have the most and shortest cooldown aoe’s that hit hard enough on the initial cast to guarantee a tag and a loot chance if it pops.

False. As a Dual-Axe Warrior every hit you do is an AOE and you attack insanely fast. Couple that with the insane damage the Warrior can already get by speccing into Precision and Discipline you got quite a winner here. Warrior also has heavy armor and good health gain so in PvE (not dungeons) the Warrior is better.

Please stop thinking about damage all the time (PvE)

OP just keeps talking about condition. That’s cool and all and should be viable (and better when condition stack on mobs are changed) but that’s really all the Necromancer can do at the moment that is even remotely competitive with other classes (and I’d argue condition Necromancer isn’t that great when compared to say Mesmers who can do this job better, faster, and easier).

I want other builds for the Necromancer to be viable. There are no other builds. Do you not see the problem? This one build you run with that seemed to work okay in your personal experience doesn’t mean the entire class is fine and balanced. Stop making these posts. You ran a 5-man dungeon and beat it? Good job bro that doesn’t mean it was you and you alone. For all we know you could have been carried. I am not saying you did but you see how this fails to prove that one build on the Necromancer is okay.

I think the theme of the Necromancer has always been the minions. I think we should have them available regardless of your build but give you options to for builds that do not utilize them.

For example, we can have multiple builds here:
1. You get more minions
2. You get stronger minions
3. You get short-lived minions (minion bomber)
4. Your minion skills are unusable but you gain some sort of bonus… maybe additional condition damage

I'm not sure my jagged horror has ever hit anything.

The models on the pets are pretty bad. Zhaitan summons undead humanoids and there are Ascalonion ghosts everywhere. The best we get are some rats and scorpions? Really? So much for master of death…

Well the change from instance to open world probably had to do with the limited minion amount for one.

Necromancer does have problems in PvE. Being able to go through PvE and level fine is one thing, but not being able to do it as easily or as fast and efficiently as other classes is just seriously bad. The Necromancer is not a class designed for burst which is fine but you should still be able to roll through PvE with sustained damage. Because how minion AIs are bad and… let’s be honest here, minion damage is pretty weak even if AI worked, the Necromancer is going to be worse than everyone in PvE.

Right now all you have is condition damage and frankly it’s not that great in PvE. Other classes do it a lot better. If you have never played a Warrior to high level (60 or so), don’t reply talking about how the Necromancer is fine or L2P. You’ve seriously never played a GS or dual-axe Warrior that just tears everything apart… 5+ mobs at a time. They would run in, kill 3-5 mobs a couple of levels above them within 10 seconds and come out with 80%+ HP. Best of all, they don’t need to blow any long CDs.

Necromancers don’t get that treatment. That’s what everyone is saying.

I’ve gotten vanilla beans from gathering plants so there’s that. Haven’t found chili peppers yet or I’ve been pretty unlucky.

Like you I was saving up materials to do a 1-400 cooking. I did it last night (so after the nerf) and other than having to buy chocolate and butter (both were cheap) not much is changed. You’ll need to spend a bit more money if you lack one or two materials. I only lacked raspberries but that was from gathering even before the nerf.

This is strange. In GW1 as a PvE character you can always wear your PvE armor to every PvP type.
