“You put WHAT in my drink?” – Socrates
“There’s only like eight of them over that hill.” – Custer
Not sure if this is relevant, but against an organized group, downed state isn’t much of an issue.
What if ANet programmed it so that even with culling, thieves and mesmers are prioritized to show up first over other classes?
As you know, Guild Wars 2, unlike many other MMOs, does not have a holy trinity. I do not think that inherently makes the PvE “worse” in any way; however, I do think there are ways ANet can improve PvE mechanics to make them feel less like DPS races and more like encounters.
For one, incorporating more factors into encounters can greatly improve PvE experiences. In Ascalonian Catacombs, The Lovers was by far the hardest part of the dungeon, and in my opinion, the most fun. The reason for the difficulty was the fact that if the two bosses were together, they would be stronger. Factors like these, instead of artificial factors like increased health and damage, make encounters more fun, challenging, and overall satisfying. Take for example Sindragosa in the Ice Crown Citadel raid in World of Warcraft. Hiding behind ice blocks, switching off tanking roles, freeing friends from ice tombs, managing debuffs — all of these were aspects to the encounter as well as the actual battle. Granted tanking in GW2 may not be possible for extended periods of time, perhaps forcing players to switch aggro more often will make for a better PvE experience.
Another idea I have is having higher difficulty settings, similar to Fractals. Instead of having an artificial difficulty like Agony, however, bosses would have more skills and abilities available to them at higher difficulty settings. The health and damage would remain the same, but there would be more attacks and more things to watch out for.
Overall, I think ANet is doing a good job. Fractals was a huge improvement to PvE in my point of view. However, I believe there is still much room for improvement.
How about you? What are your opinions?

Merry Christmas from the East Coast, bros.
Interestingly enough, it seems that T2, T3, and T4 have almost stabilized in terms of match-ups. All servers are incredibly close point wise.
Anyway, I’ve had a blast so far. Our SoR and BG bros are really making this match-up hard!
7/10. The hair is good, though in my opinion I don’t think it matches the face.
(edited by Awesomesauce.9528)
Personally, I think siege towers/siege ladders would be awesome, though I’m not sure about implementation. Cavalry units could also be cool too imo; expensive (like, 70 supply or something), not that durable (~50k HP) but fast (150% regular speed), have a running knockdown ability (would be able to clear out huge zergs), and does good damage to siege. They could be limited to like, 5-6 per server per map. I highly doubt cavalry in the way I described it would be practical or balanced for WvW given its current state, but hey, it’d be pretty cool.
How about you bros? Any thoughts?
293 DAMAGE FROM GRENADES?
ENGINEER NERF INCOMING
Lol, whoever that d/d ele was that I chased around CDBL, that was hilarious. I RTL’d after you right off a cliff, and we both fell to our deaths on the same rock. Good fight bro. Let’s do it again sometime.
7/10, but that’s just me personally. Those eyes are… staring into my soul.
9/10. Would give 10/10 if it were “XxX_384hehomg848332x_XxX”
I got two names, Conflagrated and Qida.
Dear FA,
You’ve changed. We used to have so much fun together; fighting in keeps, barraging Stonemist, dueling in JPs, long walks on the beach — but you’ve changed.
We noticed these changes quickly. When we were first together, we’d spend all night fighting, all the way into the wee hours of the morning. We had so much energy in us back then — we were so alive. But then you started coming to the EB later and later. Our battles grew smaller and smaller, less and less frequent. Eventually you stopped showing up during late hours at all. We asked you why, but you didn’t tell us. You said it was nothing. But we know, FA. Did you think we wouldn’t find out? We knew about PvE, and how you went to PvE behind our backs. We felt betrayed, FA. Betrayed.
Then you kicked YB out. We liked YB a lot, but you just had to go and rail on them until they left, didn’t you? After YB left, CD moved in. And we guess we have to thank you for that. Ever since CD came into our lives, things have been different. Very different.
We’re done with you, FA. We’re with CD now. They know how to treat us right. They don’t come to the EB smelling of Fractals and Orr. Sure they come later, but they still come in force. They still know how to treat us right. We’re moving into your BL with CD now, and we’re staying there until you leave.
We have nothing left to say to you, FA. We wanted our relationship to work, to pwn you and to be pwned by you, but you’ve grown so distant, so uncaring — so cold.
So for now, and forever, this is goodbye.
With a broken heart,
TC
Hey bros, does anyone know if it’s possible to do Snowball Mayhem with a friend, or is it like, completely random?
‘Sup bros. Let’s keep the discussions PEGI-12.
Bros, I didn’t mean act like 12 year olds. Lol.
Once upon a server reset, back in the days of yore,
I pondered over many a possible epic lewts and WvW badges galore.
Yet when I tried to enter, I was shocked by what I saw, for
The EB had already been filled: room, there was no more.
Quoth the forums, “QQ moar.”
When I finally entered the EB, I’d see the brand new score
My server was in last as usual, oh happy galore.
I reasoned it was because our server was occupied with the Lost Shore.
Surely we could not be that bad at this simple game of war!
Quoth the forums, “QQ moar.”
We zerged here, we zerged there, we PvP’d the door
We capped this, we capped that; points, we tried to restore.
Yet we could do nothing against their Oceanic hardcores.
Had ANet made the game better, we would not be so sore.
Quoth the forums, “QQ moar.”
I came across a thief one day — those types I do abhor.
And before I knew what had happened the thief had already bore
Two holes into my back. Boom. I was dead on the floor.
And the tears I wept on the forums created a downpour.
Quoth the forums, “QQ moar.”
I nearly had a kill on a ranger yesterday, but not before
He decided to use a dastardly trick on me: Alt-F4.
I cried in /t, “I can’t take this anymore!
I’m leaving WvW and going back to farm in Orr!”
Quoth the forums, “QQ moar.”
So here I am today, still PvPing the door
The orders I make seem to be all but ignored.
Perhaps I shall get a blue dorito — a difficult labor.
If only ANet had lowered the price heretofore.
Quoth the forums, “QQ moar.”
I always look forwards to reading forum posts. The drama, man, the drama.
Also, here is a picture of animals sniffing each others’ butts and turning red for no explainable reason. Enjoy.
Psst I deleted my post because I felt it was unfair.
It’s all cool bro.
Eh, I feel like changing my signature like that is disrespectful to our FA bros. They weren’t being stupid (like Custer), they were just playing the game. That’s basically how WvW goes. I expected something to happen during the dolyak parade. Seriously, holding events in a PvP area is just asking for trouble. Take this for example:
I’m not saying that all events end like this, but from my experience, holding an event in a PvP zone isn’t a good idea. Sometimes people just say, “screw it,” and attack. Other times people don’t read the forums and attack because everyone else is. FA’s just doing what it naturally does. I don’t blame them for that. I still think the fallout of the parade is friggin’ hilarious though, lol.
Oh God, the lols.
I think we’ve all come to a conclusion today: don’t kitten with TC’s roleplaying.
‘Sup bros. Let’s keep the discussions PEGI-12.
Staff ele is far better for group support than D/D, but unfortunately you have to basically be a full support class and dedicate yourself to nothing but popping clutch heal blasts and AOE cc / fonting downeds. Not a lot of badges involved in it, and it gets old.
Lol, basically. Staff eles are great for tower defenses and the ilk, but in terms of fighting like 1v1, I feel useless.
Eles just don’t have much to look forward to in my opinion. Scepters? They’re okay, but not great. Focuses? Looks like it’s treb guard duty for you. Staffs? Plant dat AoE fire, plant dat AoE heal, plant dat AoE… you get the point. Daggers, to me, are just way more fun.
(edited by Awesomesauce.9528)
So about 15 TC just rolled through a supply camp.
8 of them are d/d ele’s
thats more than 50% running flavor of the month D/D ele’s.
This is getting ridiculous.
Yeah d/d is pretty popular, but to be honest, I feel like there isn’t really a better build for elementalists atm. Would you rather I twiddle my staff, lay on my back, and give you free badges? I mean, damn, I used to be a staff ele, but after playing d/d, I don’t wanna go back.
Hey, TC person here. To everyone looking for a competitive WvW server to join, Fort Aspenwood is definitely the place to go. They’ve been in T3 for a while now, and they’ve more than proven that they’re one of the best servers out there in WvW. Despite being outnumbered, they manage to pack a hell of a punch. I remember times where 10 FA defended a zerg of 25-30 TC, or conversely when a group of 10-15 FA snuck in and capped our BL garrison. Their guilds are some of the best I’ve seen, and their coordination is exceptional; getting hit by numerous, well organized zergs all across your third of the EB map is terrifying. ULTD and GODS are some crazy guilds. I’m always exceptionally careful when I see their tags around.
All in all, these guys have got the coordination and strategy aspect of WvW down. I’d recommend FA to anyone who is tentatively searching for that server to call home.
Since I play a d/d ele, most thieves just ignore me. The thieves that do try to burst me down from stealth realize they only crit for 2-3k on their opening hit, then stealth and run away, which can be pretty annoying. I spent 10 minutes one time chasing a thief all around a BL. He kept escaping and stealthing and teleporting (or whatever that skill is) and I just couldn’t catch him. That sucked.
But honestly, I find mesmers hardest to deal with. I’m just not used to them. If a mesmer gets the drop of me, I’m basically screwed. I need to learn how to play against them.
Count me the math in.
My my my look at TC invading CD and FA borderlands.
Looks over at TC boarderlands . . . oh, that’s why you DONT DO THAT!
Okay third place.
Shoutout to the warrior in CDBL that I dueled with. It was an awesome six-seven minute fight. I was the elementalist with the sexy red hair. We should fight again sometimes.
HIS NAME IS ROBERT PAULSON
This is the best idea ever in the history of ideas.
TC is a morbidly obese sumo that sits on anything it fights, YB are the voluptuous tatties that rest evenly on TC’s fatty chest folds, and FA is the small child that is about to feel ten thousand pounds of pure man meat?
Sounds about right.
I’ll be honest, the most fun I have in WvW sometimes is defending a falling tower/keep with a bunch of other people. There’s a lot of anxiety, a lot of crap flying everywhere, a lot of people shouting orders. It’s chaotic and fun, and it really feels like everything you do to defend the tower matters.
Ifris Qadir.
Ifris from Ifrit, a fire djinn in Middle Easten culture.
Qadir because it sounds kitten.
WHAT
WHAT IS THIS
FEMALES DON’T HAVE THE OPTION TO HAVE FACIAL HAIR
THIS GAME IS SEXIST
I DEMAND FACIAL HAIR OR ELSE I AM UNSUBBING
I went full glass cannon on my ele. Normally I don’t do crap except auto attack in the back of the zerg. When it comes to defending towers, however, I can basically wipe siege and teams with 5k meteors.
Next week we’re going to team up with YB AND FA to 3v0 you.
If you’re interested, come to Tarnished Coast. I server jumped a lot when I first bought GW2 because I felt like there wasn’t a world I could call “home” — at least until I went to Tarnished Coast. The community is great, the people are really respectful of one another, and we’re always having lots of fun in WvW. I’ve never found a more accepting community in an MMO than in Tarnished Coast. Come swing by if you’d like; we’d love to have you!
(If you’d like to talk to me, my username is Conflagrated on Tarnished Coast. )
Is there still space in Tarnished Coast? I got a friend that have been trying to get in for days.
Plus there is this
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Full-Servers-Problemwhich seems to indicate that Tarnish Coast is full to the brim with a long queue of people trying to get in.
We have almost no WvW queues. Maximum I’ve ever had was 1 minute on EB during peak time. On Friday night after resets, maximum wait is 3 mins.

Fear our golems, heathens.
WvW has but one incentive for [ULTD], war. Winning said fights through superior tactics. The server may not be number one, but when we hit the field it’s your keeps or your blood. We’re going to take one of the two, if not both.
Isn’t that why we bought this game?
I have to say some of the tactics I have seen you guys use, makes me grin. Yes, I get my rear end handed to me, but I always learn something every time. Believe me, when I see ULTD, I tend to think twice before acting. And I like that.
I am one of the WvW Commanders in ULTD.
We have one goal in WvW: Prosecute our enemies and kill them repeatedly.
Often times we forgo the opportunity to make a server wide tactical decision in favor of what we do best: WvW wide murder. The battlefield is our home.
If we see an opportunity to assault a tower only that another server’s proud zerg can continually push their group against our might few, we will do it and farm them for an hour.
If we see an opportunity to put up crossed swords on an objective with soul purpose of drawing out as many zergs against us as possible, we do it and then continually blast our way through your forces.
We like to let you regroup, take a tower or a camp and feel confident. Then we like to smash that confidence and roll your groups and zergs up into nice tasty loot bags. The feeling is even better when we hear you left the zone to go to another.
We might even let you kill a few and give the illusion we are running, only to turn around and punch you in the mouth.
You can take this message as a chest thump. We have already played in the T1 bracket as a founding member of the Titan Alliance. We have fought against the best and beat the best. We came to FA because there are fewer queues and the enemies we would face would outnumber us. More killing for us. More QQ tears to collect into little bottles and give to the WoW players as mana pots.
If you see our tag on the battlefield, its because you are right where we want you to be. It was not coincidence that we showed up on your screen, it was planned. We know how to manipulate the map to get our enemies to feed us kills, bags, badges and fights.
Good fights to everyone and see on the battlefield.
-Quenta
I think your kitten is showing.
Some back story regarding the incident.
Recently, in Tier 3 (Tarnished Coast v. Yak’s Bend v. Fort Aspenwood), one of our [Tarnished Coast] players decided to amass a huge army of siege golems that he had been saving up for quite a while. Though we had them built for quite some time, we never used them, so instead, we stored them at Rogue’s Quarry. Come 1:00 A.M. EST, when people were tired and beginning to log off, our server had the brilliant idea to launch an all out siege on the Eternal Battleground with our 41 golem army, some of which were omegas.
After we finally got into the golems, we were excited beyond belief. We wanted blood. We NEEDED blood. So when one of our commanders told us to attack Quentin Lake first with the army, instead, in a furious hivemind stupor, we attacked Stonemist head-on.
This video documents those fateful six minutes.
Enjoy.
(Note: I did not take the video.)
