  • Please add/fix the missing Guild Kite option with the Guild Armorer
  1. Guild Kites were supposed to have been added to the Guild Armorer after HOT
  2. It requires almost NO extra code. Simply add the database option already present from the old Kite Maker to a tab on the Guild Armorer (like the wiki claims should already be there :/ ),
  3. Doing so brings Anet easy money! (the gems for a kite + the gold for conversion)

Many of our guild members purchased kites for real gems/money specifically to convert to a guild kite in the last sale, only to find the option missing. Some actually got frustrated and left over the issue :/ Please fix this very simple thing

The number of Kite’s could still be throttled by how often the Sun/Wind/Lightning kite’s are offered for sale in the gem store

  • A Pajama Outfit would be AWESOME!
  1. Make it custom dye-able,
  2. flannel like sweat pants and shirt, OR a Onesie…
  3. Cute happy Quaggan pattern on the pants and shirt..
  4. Include optional nightcap.

Perfect for all the late-night, binge playing gamers

…Future versions could have Dragons, Kodan, etc…

Definitely frustrating. You should experience W2z3 where you loose 4 or 5 lives on certain respawns due to enemies and falling ice killing you before you actually load in, repeatedly. Each death a continue coin each. Supposed to be invulnerable on the reload, but apparently not so much.

Have had the same issues from NA, but noticed Level 3 (backbone provider) is having major issues. They had peering outages last week that they are still recovering from. Apparently dual-routed a bunch of traffic by mistake from US to Asia.

Backbone status sites, such as the one at keynote, show sporadic and ongoing Level 3 packet loss and latency to peers (which keep rotating as if under load from an attack or cascaded failures).. This would cause certain areas to have problems while others are fine, and then rotate. Why it’s happening isn’t apparent. Maybe L3 is under attack, or they just can’t get their junk together. Not saying Anet doesn’t have a problem since last patch, but it could very well be the backbone provider.

FWIW, Just noticed Trace Route for all map IP’s I’ve been on tonight are going from here in the US to EU servers at Telia in Frankfurt Germany, before coming back to Ncsoft’s datacenter in Texas…

Other GW2 threads on lag and ping spikes have mentioned issues with the center in Germany. Not sure if this EU path is in the loop for all NA players, or for only a certain subset, but seems strange to bind any US connections to EU data-center performance. Blade & Soul supposedly uses the same path, but my wife has not had any of these issues.

In reply to Deus,

You aren’t alone. I watched similar network behavior in Huntsville Alabama on ISP WOW business service (no throttling), during the same time as your screenshots. Many central and east coast guild members had the bandwidth issues happening at the same times.

We just moved a guild from Tarnished Coast over to Borlis Pass and had Ping issues immediately (coincidence?), raising from an average of 30, up to 200 and 2000+ after the move. No other games or software affected.

Clearing: temp\gw2cache* .
and using: -bmp -mapLoadInfo /clientport:443
is still worth doing, but I really think the problem is more server, routing, and/or data-center related (possibly upgrades or glitching equipment along the path to west coast, combined with poor handling of connection issues in GW2).

Same.. 100 megabit service, but GW2 patch only downloading at 12KB/s… dropping to 1KB/s, wow… For kicks, fired up TESO, it’s downloading at nearly 5MB/s. Guess I’ll be in Tamriel instead of Tyria for the next day or two.

GW.exe*32.... not closing

Sorry it took so long to test out. Was at the RSA conference all week.

I did a clean install of Nvidia Driver 347.88, which did fix the strange Mumble overlay problems. (I had temporarily used 350.xx before rolling back and sticking with 332.21)

This did NOT fix the original issue though. Gw2.exe still hanging 5 minutes after every “Exit to Desktop”. Still shows gw2.exe hung via windows WDM Audio, usb/M-audio microphone drivers.

…When using “Log out” instead of “Exit to Desktop” it generates a spinning mouse icon and second gw2.exe background process which eventually brings up the “Already Running” info box due to the existing hang.

No Teamspeak running on mine, instead an external FastTrack Pro for mic input.

Does it here by simply having the maudio mic drivers installed, regardless of having anything audio related open (mumble, teamspeak, etc, all closed).

Appears to be a resource/audio hook problem, gw2.exe tapping into resources that it shouldn’t (certain audio input devices), then not releasing them on exit (either due to code, or lack of permissions). Guessing the common element is gw2.exe grabbing the mic / communication devices instead of just audio output devices.

Attempted the Affinity trick with no effect, but that trick might be more dependent with ‘what’ gw2.exe is holding open, so might help others.

A possible side-effect of the bug:
Since the April 10ish hotpatch, when the gw2.exe process has stalled and eventually closes, the mumble overlay no longer works on subsequent launches unless fired off in a precise order. It must be started after the GW2 launcher, but before hitting play. (In the past it worked fine when started before the launcher, and always worked fine after restarting the game.) The overlay still works as it always had on computers without the gw2.exe exiting bug.

I only mention it since it acts like a side-effect of this bug. That on certain systems the gw2.exe process is splintering confusing instances between the launcher and game client, with one of them contesting audio resources..

Having none of these problems with Elder Scrolls Online, any Steam games, or any other software on the same system, so unlikely a windows update, driver, or permissions issue…

Tried -nosound prior to the April 7th patches, but went ahead and have tried a few more times today and overnight in case something changed. Deleted the local.dat files, and the gw2cache folders, and did clean runs from command line.

Experienced the same issues, except without any sound in the game.

Upon exit, Process Explorer shows Gw2.exe running in the background, with wdmaud.drv !mxdMessage+0xa41e with an increasing Cycles Delta. Attempting to launch the game a second time I eventually receive the “Already Running” splash window. 5 minutes later, it finally closes.

Appears that something within Gw2.exe is still calling up WDM audio, even with -nosound (yet there was indeed no sound audible in game when using -nosound ). Uninstalling the external maudio sound drivers, gw2.exe closes normally.

After a ton of debugging, can safely say GW2 is no longer playing nice with certain audio drivers. It’s apparently pre-loading/querying audio devices, even those NOT selected for use, then not terminating them properly on exit.

Completely removed all Maudio drivers (which prior to these buggy game updates GW2 worked perfectly fine with) , the 5 minute hang disappeared.

No such problems with TESO, GW2 versions prior to March, or any other software.

If you’re suddenly having these 5 minute hangs on every single exit, it’s likely drivers/resources not being properly released by GW2.

Basically stuck with the hangs unless Anet decides to squash this resource bug :/

Update: 4-13-2015

Minor progress, then another patch and broken again :/

Explicitly setting the audio to Realtek, doing some force reloads, rebuilding the Local.dat configurations, saving them independently, then calling them via .bat file, got things working properly for a few days.

Since the patches this past week (after April 7th), the bug is back and appears to be related to the following thread (apparently affecting a few more people):

Having the same issue, started with the March 16th update. After exiting, Process Explorer shows gw2.exe as a background process and wdmaud.drv (an unused sound driver) attached to it, up to 5 minutes after “closing” gw2. I have an external maudio fast-track-pro for mic input, but GW2 is not supposed to be using it. I have reinstalled everything, reloaded drivers..

It seemed fixed 10 days ago after rebuilding the local.dat files with the sound set explicitly to Realtek. Then after a recent patch (around when this thread started) the problem has returned, and now seems unfixable, mumble overlays also suddenly broke with this patch :/

Seriously annoying bug since me and my wife have multiple accounts on one machine and also like to twitch stream on a third account. Can no longer relog into a different account without shutting down, relogging into windows, or waiting the five minutes and then spamming “End Task” in task manager.

I had posted the same/related issue a while back at the thread below, it has a few more details:

I can confirm this issue. I also have an external Maudio device that is used only for streaming/mic input, it’s NOT used for Guild Wars2, only using onboard sound for GW2.

Issue started on the first login after the buggy March 16th update, haven’t been able to terminate gw2.exe since that update, keeps running frozen as a background process after closing. Everything had worked in this configuration just fine the years since gw2 launched, now broken as of March 16th.

About 5 minutes after attempting to kill Gw2.exe, it finally exits. Until the 5 minutes are up the only way to close Gw2.exe is logging out of windows or rebooting. Force closing Gw2.exe gives an error that it can’t be terminated.

Process Explorer shows wdmaud.drv staying attached to the Gw2.exe process after everything should be closed.

Tried the -nosound option, client repair, driver reinstalls, client wipe, complete reinstall, even total O.S. reformat & reinstall… still the same issue persists.

Guessing Gw2 is loading unrequested device drivers, then not unloading them properly. This never happened prior to the March 16th update, and all attempts to reinstall, update, etc, have not solved the issue.

Given the time frame, so few affected, and lack of any response, guessing anet has overlooked this “bug”.

Yet another bug that just started with this patch.

In windows 8.0 Gw2.exe no longer closes properly on exiting the game, and is locked against force-closing. After waiting about 5 minutes, it will occasionally release to allow a force close. Have reinstalled, rebooted, cleared the files, etc.. to no avail.

Makes restarting the game impossible without first logging out of Windows, or completely rebooting.

Symptoms look like they modified database entries during the megaserver patches, affecting the server lists/table id’s and some of their server calculations. A big problem if ongoing content was relying on those entries being consistent, which it was = minor database corruption.

Means anybody who finished before the megaserver update has a much higher chance of having the achievement/placing bug. Then there’s the other bugs with detecting chest receipt, which sounds like a validation routine tied to the server.

Might be total luck any early finishers got the correct achievement, or a chest.

It could take a few days to write a fix, assuming their programmer is in house, familiar with all the updates, and properly motivated Then another day to test. IF they plan to code a fix and already started on it, I suspect it will be transparently applied to ‘clean things up’ on their end within the next 3 days. Otherwise they will start requesting more tickets.

What if mobs can feel real pain?

Yikes, just thinking about critting Mr Bunny for 500K with a superior rune of fire, then watching him burn, choke, gasp, and fall nearly lifeless as the fur continues to singe down to his bloody skin, paws scraping at the ground trying to drag itself away from the evil player… a rotting corpse left until a scavenger picks it apart. Not a happy thought I suppose unless you’re the scavenger, but okay with rats and chickens, lol.

Honestly I think people would still kill everything. Knowing it’s a virtual environment allows us to act out our aggression, regardless of feelings.

Seriously, some of the mob AI could use some tweaking. Not too many single moa’s if we still had them in real-life would continue attacking after being bashed with a sword, rather it would cower, become submissive, or try to flee… unless it’s a pack of them. Asurans would get a lot more mobs attacking them due to their size, and Norns a lot less.

Feedback/Questions: MegaServer

Axiom.9742

I believe they should have allowed a selection of servers to remain non-mega such as the higher population servers, then allow either new or re-purposed lower pop servers to be tagged as MEGA, allowing new users to start in a mega, and then transfer as they wish to a non-mega. (maybe I’m biased being TC, lol ).

As it is, I’ve practically quit playing; going from 6+ hours a day down to under 30min. If I log-in I’m promptly DC’d within a short time anyway. The communities really feel like they’ve been steamrolled over. Between the loss of community (don’t run into any TC friends), inability to hit the same instances with guild mates or even my wife, and then throw in the actual bugs, this feels like the ESO beta all over again but much worse considering GW2 was already doing some great things.

As a developer and designer, I get Megaserver and Cloud are the catchphrases of the year, but in the current state, to still call dynamically swapping players around musical instances a Megaserver is a marketing lie (make sure Megaserver has a little TM and an asterisk after it I suppose), leaving users with fewer options and more problems. It really feels like they purchased a 3rd party implementation, such as whoever coded the bugged Zenimax one for ESO, and then forced it into GW2.

Rather than copying or buying into the latest greatest marketing craze, time and money would have been better spent investing in their own platform and content. The idea may work great for low-pop servers, but it should never have been forced across the board, and marketing should have NEVER uttered the word Megaserver, esp in light of the ESO rollout which was focused on the term. Rather than setting GW2 apart it seems their own marketing gave up and decided to just try a cash grab with the competition’s mojo.

Axiom.9742

Just to confirm, so maybe Anet will look into the issue more seriously. Don’t think it’s your computer or anything you can do to fix it. Might mitigate it temporarily with lower settings, but honestly that hasn’t helped that I can tell.

Same thing happening to the 4 highest end development systems in our computer lab (never had any problems prior, except for an nvidia issue a few months back). Anet’s new optimization routines appear to have a memory bug. Problem with randomly crashing during major action on PC (zergs, etc).

Here’s a similar thread discussing the PC crashing since OOM and EoTM:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Crashing-since-OoM

FWIW, Same optimization issue is completely crippling OSX versions during fights, with frame rates dropping to 3 during any motion, regardless of settings.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/FPS-DROP-WITH-PATCH

Can’t tag up to command at home since it’s unplayable in battle on the mac. Glad it’s at least playable at my office, but they need to fix the crashing. They officially acknowledged the osx issue, hopefully they will address the PC issue.

Nvidia driver wipe and update helped with an earlier issue, (and may still have been a good thing to do) but since the optimization patch, it’s no longer the only problem .

Broken skills

Axiom.9742

Same issue with Ranger in pve, TC. Submitted a bug report. Posting here so others know it’s not just them. It didn’t appear to be packet loss on the user end (was playing at a datacenter, showing no drops in any of our tools). Seems like a world interaction issue, and data loss in the code/server on their end triggering the issue.

Happened after picking up an oakheart branch, then went to SB and had no skills functional. Watched everyone else kill the SB. No lag issues. Everyone could be plainly seen fighting, as I was running around dodging hits with no ability to interact.

Also had many instances of not being able to res players since last update, regardless of profession.

Re-logging in always fixes it temporarily, but that’s a terrible option during world boss or wvw (instant overflow, or being queued for another hour and a half to get back in).

Completely sucks the fun out of playing as you watch world bosses die in front of you with zip for credit.
