I never understood the argument “play the game to enjoy it because it’s supposed to be fun”. The problem I have with this is that mmo’s are never just fun to play. The game mechanics are usually completely awful. I don’t know about anyone else but clicking on an enemy and pressing the same numbers over and over again until it is dead isn’t my idea of a fun time.
MMO’s are built around the carrot on a stick. Humans like being rewarded and mmo’s do that. That’s what makes them fun, not the incredible game mechanics of spamming 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 over and over again until your enemy is dead. If I want to play an rpg just for the fun of it without good rewards being necessary I’ll play skyrim or dark souls, not guild wars 2.
You don’t want to gamble, don’t buy the chests. It’s that simple. I don’t want to gamble so I’m not going to buy the chests.
Why on earth doesn’t anet ever post this stuff on their own websites? It doesn’t make any sense that you have to go to other sites to find information about something being released for guild wars 2, but you can’t find it on the actual guild wars 2 site…..totally dumb.
I’m on erradon terrace, the server is deserted. It takes upwards of an hour just to find 4 other people to do a dungeon with.
I can’t stand people that resort to insulting other’s for having an opinion about a game. It’s rather pathetic.
Stand outside the doors of any dungeon on the map and there are lots of people looking for a group. Or…maybe I should say, there are lots of people standing around twiddling their cartoon thumbs waiting for someone else to invite them to a group.
What is the problem here? Mostly that someone has to make the first move. Speak up, start a group…someone.
Idk what server you’re on, but on erradon terrace their’s never anyone standing outside of the dungeons….ever and finding a group in LA is a 30 minute task.
Erradon terrace feels deserted.
Agree, it’s often very quiet. PVE is often too difficult because of the lack of others to assist with some of events and more difficult areas.
Yep. I spam LA for around 30 minutes just to find a group to do dungeons with. Map chats are empty, I do dynamic events by myself 90% of the time because nobody is in the zones with me.
Erradon terrace feels deserted.
I don’t have a problem with finding people just by doing /map in Lion’s Arch/the zone where the dungeon is located.
I’d rather not have a tool to find people for me world-wide. It’ll just turn into World of Warcraft, which we all know had terrible dungeon systems.
So a tool to find dungeons will make the dungeons terrible? I don’t see the logic behind this except for the fact that world of warcraft did it and we all know everything WoW did is blasphemy and should never be spoken of.
I’ve been standing in LA for the past 30 minutes trying to find people to do AC with me.
It’s starting to look like anet plans to release entire world changing updates on a regular basis instead of just on special occasions. This seems like it could be really really awesome.

I agree with this 100%. Current dungeon bosses are completely uninteresting and boring. The only dungeon that really felt atmospheric to me at all was AC, but that was nothing compared to the MK.
Dungeons currently feel like nothing more than a sectioned off area of the pve map with a few DE bosses thrown inside of it with massive amounts of health. They’re bland and boring and the only reason I even do them at all is for tokens and experience.
Add me, I’ve been looking for twilight arbor groups. I want that armor…..bad….
I have to ask. For everyone having serious problems with the puzzle, are you controlling your character using the right mouse button? If you’re not, it will be 50x harder to beat using just wasd.
I noticed a lot of people waiting in the lobby weren’t using right mouse button and they were getting stomped over and over again.
I remember being excited about the next 3 levels or so and having a really strong ambition to hammer through those levels to get that skill I wanted to play with.
And with that one statement right there, you perhaps unknowingly hit upon the reason why you get all your skills up front. The journey is the game, not rushing through content to get to that next shiny. It took me awhile to get this concept because other games conditioned me to think that way. Some never will.
I get tired of hearing about the ‘journey’. A person who plays 3 hours a day and a person who plays 13 hours a day both have the same ‘journey’, but simply do it faster. It takes the same amount of experience regardless.
I agree. These guys sound like complete fools when they argue “lolz wai to rusch throo 2 end gayme idyiot! Go plaiy WoW” I’m only 75, and definitely haven’t rushed through the game, but using this as an argument is dumb. 2 lvl 80s are going to have similar playtimes as soon as you hit 80 maybe differing by 5-10 hours (which isn’t much compared to the massive amount of time it took to hit 80) It’s a game they can play it however they want. If they want to rush to end game, let them rush.
I agree, I think we need the traditional MMO hotbar with 4 actual abilities, but 10 minor variations (9 of which are obsoleted by the 10th) and another 30 that are almost never used except in one ultra-specific situation, so you’re forced to have all 30 sitting there wasting space on your monitor on the off chance you happen to encounter one of the 30 ultra-specific situations that call for that ability.
I find that system to have amazing depth, what with the wide array of abilities based on the 4 you actually use, and the amazingly awesome 30 utility skills that almost no one ever uses except in some very specific situation you rarely encounter.
He’s talking about overall skills, not how many you can attach to your hotbar at one time.
Yeah the rewards were not worth it. By far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in a video game, and I get a pair of smelly slippers and two tonics.
Lol seriously? Wtf I must have played some hard video games in my past then. Have you ever played ninja gaiden, dark souls, some of the platformers on the sega and snes? This jumping puzzle was an entertaining casual walk in the park compared to those games.
I’ve beaten it with me (lvl 76) a lvl 16, 24, 14, 65 without much trouble whatsoever.
Easily the best part of the entire event. It was extremely creative. I hope they put more things like this in the game and ignore the whiners.
Once again, people complaining about not being able to see their character wouldn’t be able to complete it anyway. Face it, you’re too slow. End of story.
This is part of the problem. You cannot LEARN if you cannot do better run after run.
When I have to make the same mistake dozens of times and somehow get it right once or twice in there, without rapid reinforcement and rapid ability to train myself to get it right over and over again, I CANNOT teach myself to do it right.
So I am essentially learning to do it WRONG.
All the people telling me to keep trying and I’ll get there, do not understand how learning works, much less PHYSICAL learning.
Great, I’m glad you all played other comparable games and know how to do these things. Or have the appropriate tools to do so quickly.
Not all of us do, but we’re willing to try to learn. Many of us. I am not whining about difficulty. I am COMPLAINING about the lack of consideration for those of us who want to learn but are not being afforded the opportunity to participate in the fun and given the chance to learn.
I’ve been a teacher. Of Math. I’ve had students who have historically failed math. I know well the difference between giving them the resources to get B+’s in classes they previously failed, and just ignoring them and giving them the chance to fail again.
This puzzle is like going into a class you’ve failed before, and not getting any help to learn. You want to learn, but no one cares, and the people who HAVE mastered the material all point and laugh and demean. The person who put the class on the curriculum say it’s optional and not to take it.
This is all missing the point. Some of us do want to learn and be included and participate and have fun doing so.
You’re all missing the point that no two people learn in the same fashion, and we’re asking to be included. Not catered to, not having it watered down. But that the designers be creative and provide opportunities for people to be successful in surpassing the difficulties that they may never have encountered before in order to gain the tools needed to succeed.
Yes, it’s just a game. But think about what a game is. It’s recreation. It’s what we do to re-create ourselves, to take a break from the stress, to have fun, to let go of all the crap we deal with in the “real world.”
It’s not something to be trivialized so much as everyone else seems to think.
Hard is one thing. Not feeling as if you are learning anything in the process is entirely different. Not feeling as if the experience is AFFORDING you the opportunity to learn enough over the dozen plus hours you have invested. Or feeling that the ratio of learning, fun, and progress compared to the amount of stress, griefing and hassle experienced is unbalanced…
These are some of the things that are being said, and said loudly.
Why the people who walk in and complete the puzzle after two tries or twenty minutes seem to think that the feedback translates to whining for those who have invested 12-20 hours… well, it boggles me, and makes me question their reading comprehension capabilities.
I just wanted to say thank you for this comment. You hit the nail squarely on the head.
I want to be a professional football player, but I’m not fast enough or strong enough. I’m willing to learn and get better, but the NFL just won’t take me. I think I should go contact roger goodell and complain that it should be easier to make it into the NFL for the people that really want to play professional football.

Beat it. Got the mad king’s slippers. Awesome event, hopefully similar things will be put in future events.
I forgot to add. This mindset is destroying gaming. No wonder every game made from the current generation consoles on could be beaten by a blind folded 5 year old. If it’s too hard people will kitten and cry that they can’t beat it.
Man up, grow a set, and deal with the fact that you either can’t beat it, or you have to put in some time to beat it. Having everything available to everyone takes everything special away from every event if that’s how things are done. This is really making me sick to my stomach.

I was wondering if anyone’s heard of plans to bring back capes. I kind of miss the capes with your guild emblem on them from the original guild wars.
I love it. It’s addicting, but the only thing I see as a negative is playing with all those people.
Twilight arbor armor. I drool over it. I must get it. I only have 60 tokens at the moment from twilight arbor but I will own it eventually. It’s so cool looking lol.
“Between October 23 and November 5 each Black Lion Chest you open has a chance to give you one of six exclusive Halloween-themed weapon skins!”
People that feel they got ripped off knew going in that there was a chance of getting a skin. Nobody knew entirely what that chance was only that there was a chance.
You guys should’ve stopped and thought for a second “is my hard earned money really worth just a chance?” like me and I’m sure everyone else who decided not to buy keys and chests did. Arenanet didn’t rip you off, you ripped yourself off.
I’m not a fanboy, I could give 2 kitten how successful guild wars 2 does. I’ve already gotten my 200 hours of playtime and $60 worth so if it tanks it doesn’t effect me, but the ignorance of people on this forum is extremely obnoxious.
The items in the bag, not the actual nodes is what I meant haha
Just wondering if all the raw candy corn is going to disappear after the event is over so I know whether to start harvesting it like mad.
1) No, Waiting until I hit 80
2) No, other than WvW the game is awesome
3) Free server transfers
The game ended in 20 minutes. I mean if that’s your idea of fun, then keep bashing on us for whining. We don’t care if we win, we just want to have a fun competitive game.
Match is already over, HoD is outmanned in EB right after the game started.
We need another 2 weeks of 1 day matches. Badly.
Agreed. Time to go play counter strike.
Welp, 10 minutes into the game and we lost already…..
w00t, an update. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside
I really like the game, been playing for two months and I really like the pve and enjoyed the bit of spvp that I’ve played but I’m not going to blindly support WvW for no reason.
It has issues, big issues, so I’m not going to pretend that it’s awesome and fun. I honestly haven’t even been able to play a game of WvW because I can’t get out of the spawn, so I don’t know what a fun WvW match is at all.
Lower the amount of waypoints and give us ground mounts with a slight speed buff.
…..and now I will prepare for the shunning and verbal abuse.
Don’t worry, no need to go in rehab, it will pass once you’re 80. Then you’ll be wondering why you did all that.
Hell no. I haven’t even touched WvW, PvP, or 7 of the 8 dungeons. I got legendary/dungeon items to acquire, a trading post to master and get rich off of and other servers to stomp on in WvW. I can’t wait to hit 80.

You people are easy to please. Id hate to see your gaming addiction with a good MMO.
Lol. You seem to be addicted too. Even though you hate it you can’t leave the forums. Welcome to the club brother.
hd 5770, working pretty good with gw2 so far.
I can’t stop playing…I just can’t pull myself from the monitor. Just need to get one more level…one more node. kitten I have no kittening life haha. Oh well it’s totally worth it, this game is sweet.
Looking for possible feedback on this idea. But I was thinking of the downed mechanic and possibly assigning you to a squad with a squad commander at the beginning of entering WvW.
When you’re with that squad all your squadmates can heal you back to life, but nobody else can. This would alleviate a lot of issues of having to steam roll an entire army to actually defeat them.
Maybe even possibly giving the commander the ability to order squad leaders which in turn the squad leader would have the ability to give commands to members of their squad and if the members fulfill the orders they get exp. or loot or something.
Idk if it’s a good idea haha just brainstorming on a possible way to clean up WvW a bit. If anyone else could think of ways to add or subtract to the idea feel free.
I sold all my old DPS armor and gear on the trade post
I didn’t realise soulbound stuff could be sold on Trade Post, this is good to know. Does it became un-soulbound for the buyer?
Maybe I didn’t haha but I got rid of it and bought new stuff for sure.
This is one of the main reasons I AM bored. There are just far too few “builds” or skill variety to keep me interested.
Maybe I’m just hard to please but it’s one of the biggest things I look for in an MMO.
I can understand this. I tend to play one build for a long time until it either doesn’t work efficiently or I get bored with it.
But have you tried using different combinations of trait point skills? Screwing around with them, trait point placement, weapon and utility combinations should offer a large variety of builds to toy with.
Lol how does one “change your build” for every fight? You can change your builds for the dungeons, sure, but in open world pve this makes no sense.
I don’t get how people are claiming there’s a lack of content. I’m about 140 hours into the game and only level 62 from playing around 3 hours a night after work. I’d say that’s a kitten good amount of content to me and I’m not even 80 yet, haven’t even touched a dungeon, sPvP, or WvW. Some of you guys just need find another hobby if you’re complaining about a lack of content because you’ve done it all already, or change your build to suit a different role of your group and see how the changing of play mechanics can breathe new life into the game for you.
(edited by BAMFZILLA.1850)
I was starting to get bored of pve at level 55 with my warrior. I had him playing a DPS class with greatsword and rifle and it was really starting to get stale. I was thinking of taking a break for a bit until more content was released. I started thinking and decided that maybe I just needed to switch up my playstyle a bit.
I decided to build a bleed damage/support through shouts warrior. I sold all my old DPS armor and gear on the trade post and bought entirely new cond. damage weapons, swords and a long bow. I then found myself playing around 13 hours today with little to no break addicted once again.
So my suggestion if you’re complaining about longetivity or getting bored. Switch up your build. Just one of the things guild wars 2 does different then other MMOs that really kicks kitten
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQRAsc8cjcOBvtQuOMxBA0DryCAjCjG6oIppA
My condition build (not accounting for armor and weapon stats). It’s work pretty well for me so far in PVE and dungeons. It’s got decent survivability and some pretty good damage from bleeds.
People are confused. What they did in ‘removing’ the ‘holy trinity’ is that they made every class viable for any role. You wanna play a tank ele? you can. You wanna play a healing/support ele? You can. You wanna play a glass cannon ele? you can. No class has any defined role.
Every class is viable in any role. That is the beauty of gw2. You don’t need to spend days leveling a ‘healer’ or a ‘tank’ because your guild needs one. You just need to respec your current character.
This. Anyone play a class based first person shooter (team fortress 2, battlefield)? All the classes can pretty much do a little bit of everything but each class has something they’re better at then the other classes. Whenever a team is just a random group of classes they can still win, but not nearly as efficiently as a team that is cooridinated and has each class doing something specific to contribute towards the team. In a few months once people will really start seeing the way combat in gw2 was meant to be played the game will truly shine. Until then just try and learn as much as you can about it.
People don’t really have the grasp of the mechanics of the combat yet. It’s actually extremely more deep then every man for himself.
Ninja content update maybe…………
People keep talking about the holy trinity and how it’s superior to guild wars current combat style and I think a lot of people not liking the current combat style is they’re not entirely sure with how it works. It’s new and it has a learning curve.
Anet said that they specifically used Team fortress 2 as an inspiration for their classes, and I’m sure a lot of people on here have played team fortress 2 and understand that theirs a lot of depth in teamwork possible once you have an understanding of the game.
Each class and build brings something different to the table which I believe in time people will begin figuring out what works well together not only making builds of their class but also skills that combine well with other group members skills.
The depth and complexity of the new combat system is what is making people think it’s bad, it’s not that it’s simple it’s that their’s so many more options to the combat that not many people have really grasped fully therefore claim the holy trinity shouldn’t have left.
Just my thoughts, take them or leave them.
I don’t mean to be a smart kitten or anything, but I was wondering, is complaining like this standard procedure on mmo forums?
I personally think the game is pretty good. I agree it has problems, but it was released 2 months ago, so I’m keeping my hopes up that a lot of them will be fixed.
I was playing in the game and was talking to people in map chat and I caught somebody saying that the only reason people go to the forums is to complain, so I’m kind of curious. Is this true, or are the forums a good way of judging the thoughts of the community as a whole?
I’m in erradon terrace.
Pretty much nobody is playing WvW right now. Just went to sPvP and the pick up game list only has about 25% of the servers filled and I’m having a hard time doing DE’s because there’s nobody around to help do them.
Is it just because I’m playing at a time that just isn’t that populated?
Wow. Finally a suggestion that isn’t just straight up kitten claps hands
