Their stock would surely suffer more if all of the dedicated players who still spend money in the gem store just stopped playing (or at least stopped spending money).
ANet deserves failure for lying to us.
This is by far the most interesting an innovative thing ArenaNet has ever done. I can’t believe they didn’t think of adding a loot treadmill to a game that was marketed entirely on not being a loot treadmill. Pure kittening genius, I tells ya!
If you guys could make orange armor bind on equip and account bound rather than soulbound it would be super. I accidentally bought a piece of 42,000 karma orange heavy armor on my elementalist that I can’t do anything with other than destroy.
I wouldn’t mind some sort of sandbox content thrown in… maybe more WvW maps.
Going to have to agree. We’ve spent two hours trying this guy with a myriad of strategies and come up with nothing. We stalemate around 30% if we try to just burn him down, have one person destroy the crystals, or move him around. This place sucks and whoever decided this was balanced should be publicly flogged.
Frostgorge Sound.
Orr is full of mobs that chain CC you and have unreasonable amounts of HP, making fights take longer than necessary. If I could, I’d never go to Orr. I hate it that much.
Must be another one of those poor mistaken people who are muddling good games up with bad games (such as Guild Wars 2).
I suppose we’ll see what your opinion is like when you’re level 80 and realise all that there’s left to do is alot of grinding for slightly better looking gear, as nothing else is fun, nor rewarding (or sometimes not even working at all due to bugs etc). Thanks.
The things you can do at level 80 are exactly what they have been advertising for years. If you don’t like it, don’t play it. This is exactly the game they promised they would make. If you bought it knowing what they were making would rustle your jimmies or without researching the game first then you have only yourself to blame.
Frankly, they don’t need to change a kitten thing about their design philosophy. This is the game they said it was going to be YEARS ago. If you bought the game knowing what it was going to be and are now coming to these boards demanding that they change it you can go kitten yourself.
They delivered EXACTLY what they said they were going to deliver. A game based on dynamic events coupled with some static events (hearts). A game with no traditional raid content or tiered loot treadmill. A game with no holy trinity where every player is responsible for themselves.
This is exactly what we got. There are bugs and balance issues that need to be addressed, but they shouldn’t change the core of their game to appease people who knew what this was going to be and don’t like or those who bought it and didn’t know that there ANet was approaching the MMO from a fundamentally different angle.
Don’t like it? Adapt or go away. There’s a myriad of shallow loot treadmills with dead worlds out there. Go pick one of them and leave us the hell alone.
Right, because farming 180- 380 tokens or whatever it is per piece for exotics is not a gear treadmill or grind what so ever…Lulz
You can get exotic items in other ways, you know? That farming is for people who want to look snazzier than they otherwise would. I’m crafting my own exotic gear and I’m satisfied with the way my character looks. If I ever want to look like everyone else who grinds those tokens I can, but I’d rather do my own thing. Just because a grind exists somewhere doesn’t mean you have to do it.
And no, it’s not a gear treadmill. That would be raiding for tier 1, so that you can raid for tier 2, so that you can raid for their 3, etc. That exotic gear is the same as the exotic gear I can craft, get from 100% zone completion, find from loot chests (dungeons AND events), get from the mystic forge, or buy off the trading post. It’s an optional aesthetic difference that you could pursue if you wanted to. If you do, don’t kitten about the amount of time it’s going to take.

There is already a thread on this subject. Feel free to add your thoughts to it.
I think some random weather is implemented but the timers are long. I’ve seen it snowing in some cold zones with no events going on and then be sunny later on the same day under the same conditions.
Sad but true. The rest of the game is magnificent, though. I’d like to see them re-design the Zhaitan fight.
Always a fan of mini-games. I’d like a larger scale (5v5?) golem tactics mini game as well. Think Final Fantasy Tactics with Asuran golems.
Disagree. You don’t have to complete 100% of the map to play the game. If you need to jump but can’t do so to reach a vista, get better. You can actually improve your hand-eye coordination by doing things like this. Don’t whine; overcome.
Lieutenant Kholer in AC is a joke as well. He has several abilities that wreck properly geared and traited characters. Some of the exploration mode dungeons are won through nothing more than attrition and are genuinely unenjoyable.
It seems that the OP didn’t research the game at all before buying it. This is exactly the game that ArenaNet promised. If you don’t like it, don’t play it.
Dungeons aren’t fun with a bad group that doesn’t focus fire. Be a leader and hit CTRL+T on the most dangerous mob in each pack. Then target other mobs after that one is dead. You will find that people play better and it’s far less chaotic when someone takes the initiative and directs their teammates.
Also, dodge early and often.
Orr is my least favorite area of the game. The environment is very fitting, but the sheer amount of mobs and the density of said mobs just drives me up the wall. As someone else said – pull, immobilize, sink, pull, immobilize, sink, fear, fear, fear, immobilize – it’s enough to make me ALT+F4 out of frustration.
I don’t want to fight a thousand tightly packed mobs with twice the HP of normal level 80 mobs to get to one Orichalcum vein. It’s not fun. Why don’t I want to fight them? In addition to taking about twice as long to kill than the level 80 Sons of Svanir in the wonderful level 70-80 northern zone, they respawn almost immediately, sometimes while I’m fighting another mob that I managed to pull while fighting the original mob. It’s insanely irritating and needs to be fixed.
ArenaNet said they designed this game based off “Is it fun?” Well, Orr (the three zones) fails the fun test. It is the most frustrating and unfun zone I’ve ever had the misfortune of playing and it’s strange that it is in what is otherwise the most fun MMORPG I’ve ever played.
So many people seem to think that vertical progression is all that matters. You’ve been conditioned by the myriad of bland, uninspired loot treadmills on the market. Fix yourselves or go get your fix elsewhere, but stop trying to turn this game into another one of those.
ArenaNet delivered exactly what they promised, and I can’t say that for any other MMORPG on the market today.
Completely agree. It is very expensive to play on my elementalist (level 80) with my girlfriend’s alts (levels 10-22). I don’t like that I spend an arm and a leg just to play with her. It costs me as much as 2s to use a waypoint when it costs her 10c. The prices need to scale off distance, not off level.
I agree.
The game is only chaotic when you’re surrounded by incompetence. I’ve had guild runs of different dungeons and they’ve gone extremely smoothly. ANET created a social game, where you need to make friends and get to know their play styles in order to be 100% effective. Once you know eachother’s strengths and weaknesses the game becomes a lot more enjoyable as you can overcome challenges that would be nearly impossible for a disorganized PUG with ease.
I hope they don’t add raids to the game. The lack of raids is one of the biggest hooks for me right now. If I wanted another run of the mill loot treadmill I’d play Rift or another one of the myriad of EQ clones in existence.
This is different. I like it that way.
I discovered that my left-click on my three year old Razer Naga is going out in a rather irritating fashion.
I had just discovered the karma merchant next to the Arah dungeon gate. I was checking out some of the armor for sale when my mouse decided to take my single left-click as a double-click.
My level 80 elementalist is now the accidental owner of a heavy armor chest piece from the karma merchant. 42,000 karma down the drain due to a hardware mishap. My new mouse arrives in two days, but I’m still down 42,000 karma.
This seriously killed the game for me. I have a soulbound piece of equipment on my character that I can’t even use. I just lost a week’s worth of karma (yes, it took me a week to earn that much — I don’t play as much as some of you) due to an aging mouse and for some inexplicable reason there is no sell back for full value option or at the least a confirmation window that requires me to click “Yes” or “No” after asking me if I’m sure I want to spend 42,000 karma on an item.
I’ve put in for a ticket to get my karma (time and energy) back in exchange for the item. If this is not possible then you can kiss any further monetary support from me goodbye. If this is possible I will continue purchasing gems from the store for dyes and just to support this otherwise amazing game.
Either way, add a confirmation dialogue box or a sell-back option to the game ASAP. It is inexcusable that one doesn’t already exist.
I disagree. If you haven’t done all of the vistas, you haven’t explored 100% of the world. You can get them down if you learn and develop a platforming skill rather than complaining and asking for it to be removed. Self-improvement, even it if it’s something as trivial as developing your hand/eye coordination, is a good thing.
Thank you very much ArenaNet. Seriously. You guys have made the game I’ve been wanting to play ever since other companies began mindlessly emulating World of Warcraft.
I can say with complete confidence that this is the best MMORPG I’ve ever played. I look forward to future patches and expansions.
