Hey, I’m Aodan. I’m old School and herd about the new world tournament. I’m looking to play with a team who is dead set on joining that and can offer 3-4 days a week. Please reply with your schedule or what you are looking for. I can play any roll and can familiarize/execute any strat quickly.

Why GW2 Again?
I joined the army after about 4 months out from release and came back looking to get into Wild Star, I achieved 1800 gear on my medic in Week 2 of release and got to 2131 in 2s before changes came into the game that made it unplayable in my mind. I was playing with Team Legacy who I got to know through GW2, but have decided to simply be a community member in search of like minded more competitive players.

Right now I’m building my HearthStone deck for competitive ranked play and plan to later get into CoD:AW on my off time.

The population is low because the PvP integrates more elements from fps and rts than RPGs or our beloved gw1, thus failing to appeal to its initial target audience.

Let’s take a look at the following design principles:
- fps style combat with a restricted view to make camera management and observation a skill in themselves.
- fps style combat with a very fast paced game, where kills can be achieved in matters of seconds
- minor death penalty so that players have fewer reasons to play defensively but rather are encouraged to take bold actions.
- every skill should be visually understandable
- no more team carrier like monks or lead frontliner: every character should be able to be self sufficient with some room for specialisation.

While of these look fantastic from a designer standpoint, personnally, as a (mmo)-rpg player who was a huge fan of gw1 I can’t but be frustrated with the pace and the confusion of 5v5 pvp.

I have no fun with fast encounters: killing or being killed in seconds isn’t exciting, it’s frustrating. Even at the top of tournament play, team fights rarely ever last more than 1-2 minutes.

I like kills to depend on outplaying the other team with pressure, damage and shutdown being all perfectly coordinated rather than raw damage, skills being on cool down or quickness of reaction.
I like to talk tactics and builds during the fight to gradually overcome the opponent as a team rather than focusing on my own gameplay.
I’m not a massive fan of the high micro cap. Once again, I’d rather focus on builds, tactics and strategies.

The game is very complex and allows for a high skill cap, I have no doubt about that. But:
- the gameplay is too fast paced to appeal to traditional rpg players
- the ineligibility of team fights make it worse
- the freaking steep learning curve make it worse.

So either Anet works on the last two points and hopes the player base grows once people learn the game and are used to the fast paced gameplay. Either they realise they’ve gone over the roof with the offensive combat design.

I’m pretty sure there’s some middle ground to be found between the the ultra fast and hard to read current team fight and the 8v8 stagnant fights with no deaths that plagued some of the gw1 era.

I think Anet made it very clear that they weren’t targeting GW1 players hince why GW1 still has it’s dedicated core of players.

5v5 format is strong.

As far as compared to GvG that will probably still come out, but the issue right now that plagues the game the hardest is a low Population in competitive pvp. Complaining how Spvp is not GvG is NOT going to solve that.

how is spvp population? good? low? rising or dying? i left the game almost 2 months ago and spvp population was low.

i already see spvp didnt get any serious update since i left the game…

It’s still in a decline.

Main issues is for the competitive players:
1) Althought the current 1v1 5man tpvp system is better than the previous, but still lacks as the population is low thus making any rating system kinda pointless as eventually you will get paired against ppl who are much higher than you.
2) No custom arena, stops the competitive players from creating and managing their own tournaments which would drive veiwership and bring in new players who may want to get in on that kind of competition (EGL, ESL, GB, FN, Joyst, ETC)
3) Minor issues with balance concerning Ele’s and Rangers and the current issues revolving around melee.

Main Issues for the casual players:
1) Not enough map types or simplistic enough thus why they’ve added two new maps.
2) No Dueling (This means almost nothing but some ppl want it mainly to kill time between ques)
3) Again tying back to custom arena, there is very little room for new players to practice and even with a new ranking system, the pool is too small thus new players will still get paired up against vets and get stomped leading to them losing interest in the game.

To make this more clear, think about it as in Starcraft 2 terms. If you only have say 20 groups of 5man at max during peek (top 100 QP for example) you will get paired unfairly even with a ranking system because if lets say your 0 QP or lower than the latter on QP you will get paired up against ppl with MUCH more experience/play than you simply because ranking won’t fix a low pop. Even with the thousands of players on SC2 in 1v1’s and 2v2’s gold players still run into diamond and bronze still run into plat players. All this focus on ranking is going to do for Anet and GW2 PvP pop is make more of a commotion of how it doesn’t work with such a low population.

In Short This is a horrible move by the people working on pvp for Anet and a horrible move in trying to recover the pvp scene.

Custom Arena however and allowing monetizing of GW2 vids on Youtube would significantly increase viewership/interest in the game and the competitive/pvp scene.

It is honestly sad on Anet’s part that they have ignored two very blaring items that could of stop the decline in population or even revitalized it compared to BWE’s and Launch.

Their policy of “when it’s finished” is hurting them at this point. Even if Custom Arena with an Obs mode and monetizing of GW2 vids were to come out in the next month. I doubt half of the pvp popluation would come back. You would probably only see maybe 1/3 of the original pop come back and that’s if the functions aren’t buggy and Anet works with some of the outside leagues to promote competition.

I think population is low for 2 main reasons

1) There isn’t an easy, good way to battle

*only one mode
*only 5 man tournaments (voip required)
*spvp zerg
*no ladder
*no duels

Conquest is just hapless scoring unless you’re in voip. It doesn’t facilitate pugs, or any solo que, but rather supports constant, uneven numbers in battle (and extreme builds).

Got a five-man coherent team where people give and take orders smoothly to complete objectives? You get to be competitive: not working well

2) Class balance

Let me just give one example of imbalance here: stealth

Mesmers and thieves got it extensively. Now, mesmers pop out 3 A.I. that track and strike opponents as hard as another player, while thieves have the highest spike damage and great mobility; but they both have builds that can constantly drop target through stealth. This takes very little skill, and ruins combat. They leave their opponents to swing at the air or scorch the earth better than an invisible person can land attacks and heal.

Today I fought a thief with my ranger. Now Axe/Dagger+Longbow only has 2 aoes, and I’m not a trap ranger (so I suppose all other builds are obsolete because of this one tactic.) My opponent popped stealth about every 5 seconds, and simply dodged when he was targetable. I had to constantly tab target and redirect my pet to attack every time. The window of opportunity to strike with a non-aoe was about 1 out of every 5 seconds, and he knew it, simply dodging the majority of what little I could even aim at him… this is frustrating as hell, and mesmers simply blow your kitten off the map while they’re doing it. You’ve got to bring alot of strong aoe to even fight back. People who can’t spam aoe get tired of busting their kitten just to keep up with these gimmicks, only to be invisibly stomped. It’s not fun or competitive.

These 2 points are relative because conquest has created the “glass cannon that strikes and runs away” or “bunker that sits on point” mentality, and it seems the classes will be balanced around objectives. I don’t think pvp can or will be fixed any time soon.

Neither of these reasons contribute to why the pop is so low

I’m sorry but this is such a troll of a thread.

Screaming that Ranger is OP? No that’s far from the issue. And if you want to bring a valid and constructive claim to the debate, then i’d advise that you propose Anet to allow the other weapons for the ranger (Greatsword and offhand axe to name a few) to be legitimately as viable as the other weapons.

Not only that, but better traits and traitlines.

LOL at the idea of the Ranger being nerfed. Yeah have that happen and I hope Anet are willing to face the reaction afterwords.

Rangers have imbalances (that are combinations of things available) that can’t be refuted.

2 Dodges within Sword/Dagger both on very short cool downs
An invul (in Marksmen)
20s Stability, Fury, Swiftness on a 120s Cooldown
Quickness

Their Short Bow apart from Sword/Dagger are significantly better than any other weapons, but what Anet needs to do is nerf what is currently too good and buff what isn’t.

Basically it feels like BWE3 all over again with heavy range condi comps.

i dont care if ppl say it shouldnt those ppl that say it shouldnt have something wrong with there brain or are not playing the same game im playing.

this game has gotten so rediculous sence 1 team vs 1 team has came out.

after watching the SOTG i was hoping someone would say something but having someone from a team that knowingly runs the 2 most op classes of course we wouldnt get some real problems with the SOTG fixed.

you dont even have to nerf them just make 1 class allowed in the game at a time.

jon said “lets keep 1 map in at a time so we can see how the meta changes”. well jon i hope you see that it doesnt matter what map you see there will always be 2-4 eles and 1-2 rangers.

(off topic we dont want one map per week can you put maybe 1 map per 4 days and after that cycle change it to all maps rotate? i mean will you please)

“you wanna see ppl make new builds and get good at every class”. well then you need to lock 1 class per team in because right now and since the beggining of the game ppl jump on the op classes and bring multiple into a team.

in the SOTG you guys are praising PZ for being great? it confuses me cause every time they make a strong team its based off of the op classes and 3 times we make a team that destroys them but every time we use good ppl on diff classes and they quit for 2 weeks -1 month until something more op comes out. this is not ok and a game shouldnt be this way. for the first time pz actually has 5 really good players so that with abusing op classes makes this game not fun.

yes im new to mmos i only have SWTOR under my belt but i do understand fair and not fair.

my view on ele = they have crazy burst, crazy cc, crazy heals, crazy condi clear, crazy condis, crazy survivability, they can get out of a battle reset health and do it all over again so even if they are getting beat first attack attempt they will come back and do it again. ( it dont matter how skilled u are a great ele will win) and then to top it all off there elites are the most op eletes in the game. if they need heals for the team or in solo fight the water one (gl beating them 1v1 with that out) or if they need that extra bit of burst for a little more tanky one then they have a dps 1) so overal WTF is all i can say to this.

my view on ranger= they can drop a top tier bunker in 30 seconds. (enough said u would think) they have crazy aoe damage crazy single target damage. they remove every condi every 10 sec, they have entangle elete super crazy op damage and its great for 1v1 and team fights. they are super survivable. u can be a bunker and your pet will kill them fast while they add condis so either one u try and kill ur SOL, they have super speed over 50 times a game on pet swaps so they are so crazy in team fights for reses and stomps. (cc them u say when someone goes down? well i do a smart guard wont let that happen they stability, plus gotta go over there to them cause ele mist forms behind the line so ur dead for over extending) they are super survivable also.

there is more to them but i want to get on with this post. when i hear on SOTG that they are not op and no jon said anything about that directly baffled me. a guy named Newmoney made rangers what they are today. he was the best ranger this game has or had ever seen he destroyed EVERY ranger in 1v1 and didnt die in team fights and he was are back point ranger when only we used a ranger. then he had rl drama and hasnt been back. then PTC got vyndetta and started stomping teams also. but they were still called weak? then i found vain and we perfected ele staff ele then they got nerfed. after that skovex made d/d ele were it is today and now thats were we are at. so yes ppl will always find the strongest way for there class and you keep nerfing it because the same pattern keeps happening we find op stuff to many ppl use multiple in it and ppl complain. (remember ppl thought staff phantasm was op until i made the GS shatter build and destroyed every mesmer in the game? if u dont try watching old xee videos and how he changed after fighting me and losing over 20 times in a row. then i give him my build he posts it and everyone changes then there is multiple mesmers on a team then we kept getting nerfed)

to stop this from happening one class needs to happen because even if op builds on classes are found they only get 1 of them. i can beat these rangers and ele just fine and so can everyone else ive seen but its when u get multiple is when it gets crazy and i dont want them to get nerfed so bad ppl stop using them just like mesmers now keep them how they are IMO buff other classes like u said u want to in SOTG.

Agreed totally. Swapping professions in the midst of a tournament period is not ok.

You should be able to solidly play 2 professions and familiar with a 3rd.

A friend just bought me the Expansion cause he herd I wasn’t play GW2 seriously anymore and I indulged him.

3 days later I just could barley play it. I had a 85DK that got hacked but the guy got me cata so that worked itself out. At 86.5 I’m already hating having to do PvE to PvP.

I do like the changes and balances they’ve made to Arena, it seems like they took quite the page from GW2 making the gear grind in Arena fairly linear (no raiting req for gear) and you can get points without being 1500+. In honesty it seems like they’ve dumbed down the game and are making Glad more easily achievable which isn’t ok in my book.

Meh 2 months more then I’ll be shipped out. I just really Wish GW2 would put in solo/duo que similar to LoL for Paids and do the changes to reg paid to be a revolving que vs the 8 min req.

My current Win Ratio in Tournaments is 82.34% For the past 2 months have simply been filling in.

This team will not be ran soely by me but as a collective group requiring as experinced if not more experinced players.

Me and a friend(s) are looking for 2-3 more players to form a team with the expectations of Custom Arena and the new Tournament que coming around.

I personally have multiple contacts for sponsors and have been down the road of acquiring them. Sponsors and “e-fame” will come with strong dedicated play and movement of competitive play within GW2. Right now there is nothing, but with the future implementations, things could/will change rapidly. This team has the goal to be ready for when that happens.

Requirements:
You must want to play competitively and play against/with the best. No one on this team is looking to lose, so if we/you lose for obvious lack of dedication or improvement then you will not last long.

You will be expected to get on at the times the team decides and play to the availability you state. I nor anyone else should have to call you to get you on. Again if you don’t want it, you won’t last long.

Fix Corrupt Boon

Why has Corrupt Boon not been fixed?

Corrupt boon at the moment doesn’t correctly apply/fire off if:
1. You move while casting it
2. You cast it while target is behind you
3. Sometimes when you are too close to the target

Paid tournaments are coming in tomorrow and this is one of the best answers to heavy bunkers comps/bunkers in general

It is irritating that such a crucial bug for Necromancer has been in the game for over a week when it is a pivotal skill for the current forming meta.

In terms of Spvp and some of PvE
Meditations are by far the best utilities because of the 30 investment from Valor.
You get a considerable heal, short cool downs, and great utility out of them.

Smite Condition/JI/CoP are BIG ones.

Guardian ranged weapon suggestion

Simply, fix the scepter so that #1 is more consistent and not easily LOS’d/Out Ranged.

To do this:
1. The orb needs to be considerably sped up (similar to a rangers arrow/shot)
2. The range needs to be consistent as some times when dealing with Z the range is shortened considerably.

Glacial Heart CD 45 Seconds Is Just Too Much

Either the internal needs to be reduced or have the Trait fire on 50% HIT instead of Crit.

The Issue:

Crit oriented builds with Hammer are really week cause your asking a player to spec for 35%+ crit with a slow weapon. That doesn’t make since at all esp considering Hammer is more about control than damage. (if it was on HIT it would work well with #2)

The internal is WAY to long to be consistent choice esp for a Major.
At most the internal should be 10s.

So in short:

Re tool the trait to be 50% chance on hit with a (10s internal CD) and it may be considered a viable trait.

I’ve missed over 20 gold reward chests, on top of that getting Mithril Ore on Spvp/Tpvp salvages.

I honestly demand reimbursement as this is a huge bug that took weeks to fix and now we are salvaging PvE materials out of PvP gear that we should be getting PvP mats from.

PVP Salvaging Bugged

I’ll post under here.

1. When salvaging Spvp/Tpvp items I get regular PvE (Mithril Ore) materials
> This irritates me as I miss out on a ton of possible materials I want for crafting spvp/tpvp gear.

Shouldn’t we be only getting spvp/tpvp (pvp materials) not PvE

2. I’ve only gotten 3 slivers in 40+ hours of a 84% win ratio in tournaments with 140+ games won. Crystals I got more of in my first 50 and haven’t gotten a single one in the past 60 gold tourny chests I’ve salvaged.
