Scaling would make them more fun, along with additional dungeons across the board (about 1 dungeon every 5 levels or so?)
Perhaps the odd level dungeons (at 35, 45 etc..) could be lower/multiple difficulty and able to be either soloed or duoed by those looking for some diversity while leveling, and a “group mode” requiring a full 5 person team to handle.
Did you even enter a dungeon like ever??? There already is 1 dungeon every 10 levels. Starting at level 30. Why add more dungeons at lower levels? Most people already wait till they are 80 till they start running dungeons.
Odd level dungeons??? Please tell me where to do those. As I currently got 100% map completion and dungeon master and haven’t seen a single dungeon that had an odd level entry so far!
Dungeons are designed as “group content”. You are looking for diversity? Ever tried PVP, WvW, Personal story, Living story, Open World, Open world bosses, Events, Crafting? I think there is enough diversity. The only hard content ingame as for now are the dungeons. And now we need to scale those easier cause you can’t handle them? Kinda sellfish ain’t it? Please keep some content there for the more hardcore players around.
There is more then enough content to get diversity and that is easy to solo.
The hardest part of Giganticus Lupicus is…
Looting the basterd. It’s always dissapointing.
Nice video. That Mesmer was amazing.
Uhm I guess you meant the Guardian?
Cause those 2 mesmers were amazing. Amazingly bad!!!!! To even say it mildly! No use of feedback, no use of blink to the downed guy. The warrior had to try get him up :S. When there are 2 mesmers in the party from which 1 was standing closer. No switching of weapons during the fight. Just the use of GS autoattack. No illusions up at about any given time in the movie. While there were 2 mesmers in the party. Atleast the mesmers in your other parties had an understanding on what they were doing.
There are 2 solutions for the 2 mesmers
1: They were sleeping
2: They are braindead
@Obal
The movie however is very good. It explains all phases of the fights and all attacks lupicus has in his arsenal. I would definitly recommend newcomers to Arah to watch this movie.
You explain aswell how you can easily avoid most of his attacks for each class. However your playstyle when your entire team is downed to get 1 guy up is near impossible for a lot of classes. The same goes for the Lupicus fight aswell. You face tank him like he’s a kitten. Having a skilled guardian in the group really helps making the fight easier.
From my experience when pugging Arah the guardian most of the time can’t tank him and nor is there another class that is able to tank him for that long. So he’s kited around. That adds a lot of chaos to the fight as he propably will switch aggro from time to time aswell. And that’s the part were it all goes wrong for most groups. But you do not show this kiting technique in your movie. As your just to skilled yourself :P. A lot of parties are just unable to keep him in place like you do.
As for the comments you make in the end of the movie for the different classes. I main mesmer so I will only answer to that.
Scepter is just beh cause it relies mostly on confusion. It sucks in PVE do not use it. Use a sword instead. Especially your sword 2 can save your life when used right.
Focus: For a skilled mesmer this is definitly the way to go. But reflecting warden isn’t anything I would recommend to a starting mesmer on Lupicus. As said most of the time when I’m doing Arah he’s kited around and as the warden is stationary he just doing nothing. Besides the casting time for warden is pretty long. Atleast longer then the animation for Lupicus his AOE attack. Also the warden is a melee phantasm meaning he dies pretty quick. You really need a very good understanding of the fight in order to cast wardens effectivly.
I would recommend using a pistol in the offhand if you really want to use sword / scepter in your mainhand. The Phantasm are ranged and do a nice chunk of damage. And they tend to stay alive a lot longer cause of their range.
But in the end I would recommend using GS / Staff. The staff adds a lot of survivability which will be very helpfull for the newcomers. Besides it is a ranged weapon aswell as all the phantasm and illusion you spawn with it. It will buff your team with the bounces out of the autoattack and gives a lot of chaos armor “even more survivability”. And you can use Staff 2 “Phase retreat” aswell to escape from the bubbles he makes in phase 3. So to all the new mesmers at Lupicus start using a staff :p
That’s the criticism I have. But in the end one of the best Lupicus teaching movie I have seen so far. Thank you!
As of this moment:
Versatile Mighty Infusion
100 Passion Flowers: 49.9 gold
250 Vials of Powerful Blood: 91.3 gold
100 Philosopher’s Stones: 0 gold
50 Mystic Coin: 3.4 goldTotal 144.3 gold.
… for 5 extra power. That is plain ridiculous, even for a purely non-essential item. The price for passion flowers and powerful bloods are just way too high at the moment. Please consider increasing the drop rate of those items and/or changing the recipe amounts Anet.
First those infusions are not meant purely for the +5 power but for the agony resistance aswell. If you just want +5 power or +5 agony resist infusion there is a cheaper option :P. But yes if you really want BiS this is your only option.
In my eyes the price of the vials is good. Yes they are expensive but also in very high demand. So that’s driving the prices up. But it’s also very doable to grind them.
On the other side the passion flowers. Hmm well they are just plain ridiculous. They are at a cost of around 2-3x the cost of an ecto. It’s impossible to grind them and cause of that reason there are few on the TP. A few weeks back I decided to go grind for these elusive flowers. Spending 10+ hours and harvested around 40 passionflora vines with a total result of 3 flowers :S Not funny. Grinding these for your infusions or “Apothecary armor set” which requires 375 of them is just insane. Full exotic armor sets costs you around 20-25G were the Apothecary set costs you between 250-300G.
Something is telling me Anet sucks at balancing. They do the same for dungeons compare 5-7 minutes CoF 1 to 120-240 minutes Arah 4. Reward is the same. Come on Anet atleast 1 of you guys / girls there should have finished math on kindergarten, and should have came up with the brilliant idea some things need to be balanced.
As for now just go with the flow. And grind the hell out of CoF1 for money and just buy them from the TP. I know Cof1 get’s boring as hell after a while. But for now it’s by far the quickest way to get them. If not the only way to get them before we all end in a home for elderly .

Yeah Lupicus is perfect.
I doubt he was meant to be cuddled to dead. So I don’t think he will be nerfed. And to be honest I doubt that when they fix his red circles in phase 2 people will stop complain or start killing him then all of a sudden.
Phase 2 is very short and when someone get’s downed from an AOE attack just get him up and continue. Biggest problem I see people make when pugging Arah is, when someone get’s downed every one rushes towards him like a school of frenzied piranhas. Downed player still has aggro. Lupicus throws in an attack and a miracle took place! 4 people downed all of a sudden wondering and shouting in chat “WTF just happened”. Just makes me laugh :p
Yeah CoF is to easy to grind money. Other dungeons should get higher rewards to match their difficulty and time needed for it. I think.
But try gw2lfg.com it really helps getting groups for a dungeon. Not arah 4 though. But if that’s the problem I’m happy to help you in arah 4. Got some friends that want to join no problem. Got no one also no problem and I ask some friends. I don’t care what class you play or what build you use. But it will take 2 to 2,5 hours. I can’t make it shorter sorry. But I can almost guarantee you will finish the dungeon.
I had the NPC bug out once on the last boss. He didn’t activate the crystal. So that’s why I don’t dear to guarantee hehe.
But what server your playing on NA or EU. I’m on EU servers
I disagree entirely with the philosophy that everyone should use net resources to learn dungeons. Players should always be able to learn the game within the game.
Everyone is able to learn within the game. But as he’s already saying 2,5 hours is long and they keep failing at a boss that is bugged in his eyes. Which the boss is clearly not. He better uses the net.
I find it more fun to come up with my own tactics and strategies aswell for encounters. But it will always take more time then when you read up in front on what to do, no exceptions!
Besides exploring a dungeon your own way isn’t gonne work when he sees the dungeon as frustrating is it? He’s after a fast clear of path 4 without to much effort. He propably is gonne finish the path once to never return there.
@ Pyroatheist
You completly right. Immortal build has definetly a low DPS output in PVE. I use your build for soloing dungeons. Works great! And it is definitly a good build for starting mesmers to get a feeling of dungeons. As you won’t get downed fast or even at all :p
Then slowly build up for more DPS as you get better and better. As in the end some fights just become so much easier with DPS. Higher fractals and Simin as an example.
For Lupicus: Yeah Phase retreat works great on the bubbles. But so does the leap from your sword if you pre-cast the first step. (Lot harder to use tough) or what I use most of the time. My all time favorite blink :p
But then again it all comes down to personal preferences. He has to use what works for him. Your not wrong on any of the points you stated above and neither am I. :p
@crunkfresh
After reading you post a 2nd time. Start using Toughness instead of Vitality. Toughness is better for mesmers and especially a phantasmal build. All your clones do benefit from toughness. Making them stronger and last longer. Vitality gives you more HP but your phantams will not get more HP. Your only way to improve phantasmal health is trait in the Inspiration tree or signet.
Besides more HP means you will need more healing. Which ain’t the strongest part of a mesmer. Around 18K HP is enough if your decent at dodging. You just need to be able to survive a single hit.
And the problems with conditions on you melting your face. Well mesmer is one of the best classes to remove conditions :P. So that shouldn’t be a problem at all. Examples: Null Field, Mantra of resolve, Arcane thievery, Phantasmal disenchanter all spells you can switch in if you’re on a heavy condition boss. Then there are also some traits that remove conditions. Most used is propably Mender’s Purity (IV) in Inspiration tree. Remove condition on heal.
I agree on most things said above.
But I find pyro’s immortal build a lot better ( let’s say it’s just insane ) then his phantasmal build. If you want to go phantasmal with support I would go for a 20 (III,X)/20(II,X)/0/25(I or II or IV,VIII or X)/5 build.
I use that build in dungeons myself. Great DPS with healing and glamour support. I main a GS and besides that I use Sword/Focus and occasionally switching out that for a staff. Support wise the staff is better. DPS wise Sword/Focus wins.
Warlocks live longer on a melee boss but on a boss that spams AOE like Lupicus and many others they die just as quick as the rest. So I feel warlocks are only better on some bosses / fights. besides that you are using staff for Chaos armor. But with Sword/Focus you can get Chaos armor aswell :P.
Play with you GS as you normally would. Then switch to sword/focus.
1: Cast warden (5)
2: Put Temporal curtain in front of wardens feet (4)
3: Leap towards the boss trough temporal curtain (Press 3 two times)
Leaping through the curtain is what gives chaos armor
4: Blurred frenzy (2)
5: Dodge out and switch to GS
Rince and repeat. Doing the 5 points above with some practice takes as long as is needed to switch back to your GS. Perfect timing :p
For gear go full Berserker. When you feel you are going down too quick switch out some armor pieces for Knights or Soldiers gear. Till you feel you keep up long enough. For runes I would recommend runes of the centaur or runes of the pack. They provide great speed buffs that really helps you stay alive in dungeon even when build squishy.
For my other spells I use:
Blink
Feedback
Mantra of pain
Time warp
But switching out based on the encounter. Null field, Decoy, Phantasmal defender and Mass invisibility I switch in most of the time.
I feel this build would fit you better. It stays close to what you are using already. You say you rezz a lot blink + medic’s feedback will help you a lot then. I also find that the illusion tree is more for shatter builds. You don’t benefit much from Shatter cooldown reduction when you don’t shatter much :P Also the 2nd minor trait ain’t that usefull. Confusion already sucks on bosses and again you don’t shatter much :P. Condition damage is also not that great as the others already explained above. So basically they stack a lot of points in there to get phantasmal haste. But I feel that I am wasting to many points to get there. And rather put them somewhere else.
But in the end it stays a personal preference. Try different builds out to see what fits your playstyle. You can’t go wrong.

Atleast you gave me a good laugh Michael!
But seriously what are we supposed to do with this post of you? You are clearly frustrated you didnt finish path 4. Like many have been before you and are with you :P. But to be honest player connectivity issues? Uhm tell the player to fix it. What are we or Anet supposed to do about that?
Can’t find a replacement for the warior. Well path 4 isn’t exactly popular. As long as you haven’t killed Simin yet people propably won’t join. When entering path 4 make sure everyone has atleast 3-4 hours. If not don’t start path 4. As the change is very high you won’t get a replacement.
And on top of that make sure you know what to do. Read the forums or watch movies on youtube. If you were really wondering why the wraith resetted every time, you weren’t supposed to finish the dungeon anyway. And watching the screenshot the group didn’t have a clue what to do. You guys got wiped out by trash mobs not the boss. Besides the wraith is actually the boss :P.
Before entering get a group on Mumble, Teamspeak or whatever to be able to communicate a lot easier. Make sure everyone has foods and potions on them. No excuse not to. If you can’t spend 20s on some foods you won’t finish path 4.
We all know path 4 is hard, long and for many very very frustrating. No need to add another post for that.
If you need help on path 4 ask that instead and we can provide tips or help you finish the dungeon. You just added another troll post.

You know you’ve played too much Mesmer that when you start moving IRL you start seeing purple butterflies around you.
First of all your not gonne fix your lag with a change in gear. And in order to dodge attacks decently you need to fix that first.
About your gear. Well if you are experienced with a fight and run it with people you are familiar with you can use full berserker gear. However in a PuG or when your not 100% sure what the boss does I would change some gear parts to Knights or Soldiers.
Easiest thing for mesmer is keep your accessories full berserker. And obtain a 2nd armor set with Knights and Soldiers. Start with swapping out 3 berserker pieces and try. Depending on your build / experience you may wanne swap out some more pieces or a bit less.
I would take all acended rings, accessories and amulet Berserker. As it will take you a long time to obtain a 2nd set of these. And I haven’t seen many mesmers that were running lupicus multiple times. That didn’t have enough survivability with for example full Knights armor.
I’m sorry to hear that SnowHawk. But believe me there are people that are willing to learn to others like me. Unfortunatly I also have a feeling it’s a minority in the community. If your on EU servers I’m happy to run dungeons with you even if you never done the path or even the dungeon before. And yes also Arah.
I got to be honest. Of course I also “kick” people from time to time. But that’s only cause they did 1 of the following two things:
1: Lying.
If I ask at start if there are people new to the path and I get no response, I assume people have ran it before. If we then hit a wall and people are telling me they are new and need explanation I kick them without a second of thinking. Not cause they don’t know what to do but cause they lyed at start. And from my experience when I didn’t kick them instantly: Those people often have no intention at all to learn the dungeon. They are just there to get carried through for the tokens.
2: Bad attitude.
Mostly elitists that start whining cause someone made a mistake. Mistakes and wipes happens. But instead of whining they should try to help the people that failed to improve. Insta kick if he keeps whining after I told him to stop.
That way I keep my groups fun to play with and motivated. And that’s the most important thing for me. It’s a game so I want to have fun. Games are made to be fun. However lately some people are tending to see games as “work”. Something they HAVE to do.
(edited by BartBacardi.5371)
@Snowhawk
The most common mistake I see people make is when the kiter get’s downed. People all rush in like a school of crazy piranhas to get them up. Lupi throws in his AOE attacks and the entire group is downed.
If your kiter get’s downed and lupi is still on top of him. Let him die! When lupi starts to follow another person, that person kites lupi around while the rest has literally ages to get the dead guy up. Rince and reapeat till lupi is dead.
As a fellow mesmer. Make sure you’re using “Blink” to get to downed people faster. Together with the trait “Medic’s Feedback” it will make getting people up easy for you. But still do NOT get people up when they are laying under Lupi unless you’re really comfortable with lupi and know what to do.
However, as of late, I’ve noticed a massive influx in selfish and idiotic behavior.
Totally agree with this one. And after reading your post. I have added another idiot to my list. Just hope your playing on NA servers so I will never have the uncomfortable luck of running into you or one of your guildies.
Serious you could have spend your time way better then adding this massive troll post.
Good luck with finding more more selfish and idiotic players to play with. But yeah those you won’t even find on gw2lfg.com. Guess that’s the reason for you trying it here.
the most awesome look ^^ evaluate
Well I like the look of your mesmer altough it ain’t the most awesome look I have seen by far. Besides your screen resolution is so bad it looks like you got a toothed blade :P
Hi all,I’m running a Mesmer with 20/20/0/0/30(dunno wat build it is),with a gs n s/f.
Armor with pow/pre/cri n centaur runes, same for my weapons with air signils. However I heard staff is better than gs for Mesmer,is it true?
I suppose I’m considered as running a glass cannon or shatter build?
May I know any way to improve my Mesmer?
My current traits r mind wreck n gs training for domination, phantom fury n deceptive evasion for duelist and precise wreck, phantom haste n ip for illusions.
Skills r ether feast, sigil of inspiration, mirror image n feedback n gw for elite.
Staff ain’t better then GS for mesmer nor the other way around. You can’t compare both in my eyes as they fullfil a completly different role. Staff is defensive condition damage based and GS is burst damage based.
I like your build and think it’s viable. However I find your choice for phantasmal haste a bit weird cause you didn’t take the 15% dam for clones in domination nor the + 15% dam for phantasms in inspiration. I would then personally take elasticity instead to improve your staff with an extra bounce.
I run a 20/20/0/25/5 build with GS and staff. Almost full berserker gear and some pieces knights for some more toughness. This makes me able to switch fast between offensive and defensive. I make sure I get atleast 2 phantasms up. Then I start casting mantra of pain which gives me an AOE heal for around 2500 every 4 sec. With inspiration trait X. Can’t come up with the name. While my phantasm deal damage.
@ kazhiel
Thank you. Both times your absolute right. I meant Inspiration tree indeed. But he could even decide to put the points in the domination tree for 15% damage on all clones and some extra damage on his attacks.
@Decimus
The end result is a highly survivable, highly supportive, and moderately high dps build that I love playing. That are your words.
Please tell me in what way you are supportive other then Phantasmal Healing and a few short boons you supply with the auto attack of your staff?
Debilitating Dissipation why let illusions @ a condition while your trying so hard to keep them alive?
Illusionary Retribution confusion on skatter skills? We are still trying to keep our illusions alive right?
The traits you choose should be able to work together and make each other stronger. Not to counter each other like they do in your build. That’s just throwing traits away.
Yes your completly right on this build being a hybrid. But trying to be this overly hybrid just isn’t gonne work. Sorry but I personally wouldn’t recommend this build. The build tries to be good at everything but you will end up being good at nothing.
(edited by BartBacardi.5371)
A quick note on the Illusionary Elasticity trait: you will need to be at a range of ~800 (not 1200) to benefit from the bounceback, which will essentially double the DPS and conditions you will apply with your staff auto attack. Alternatively, have a teammate in melee range so that the bounceback can bounce off of them instead. This trait also gets you a 4th bounce out of Magic Bullet (pistol 5), a nice synergy.
Sorry mate but here your not even close. Elasticity doesn’t work on your illusions which is your main source of DPS. It only adds 1 extra bounce on your own staff attacks. Besides half of the conditions on a target are bleeds from your phantasms. So your also not comming close to double conditions with elasticity. This will give around a 33% to 50% damage increase on your own staff attacks. Which are kinda poor anyway. And yeah magic bullit adds another bounce which gives confusion. Which isn’t that usefull in dungeons.
To be honest I wouldn’t spend that many points in the Illusion tree with this build and this is why:
First minor = +20% CDR on illusions
Very nice minor but this is not needed as you don’t want to shatter your illusions but want them to fight for you.
First major = +3% damage for every illusion up
+9% damage is rather nice but not when using a staff. Your attacks aren’t doing that much damage so the increase isn’t that much higher either.
Second minor = Illusions add confusion on shatter
Well as said before you don’t wanne shatter that much. So your not applying that much confusion. Besides a lot of foes in dungeons are immune to confusion. So actually it isn’t doing anything at all.
Second Major = Elasticity
It can be a nice trait skill but your wasting to many points already to get here.
I would spend 5 more points in Dueling for Deceptive Evasion together with all the vigor you have this will supply an infinite source of staff illusions.
Then 10 points in Dueling for Empowered illusions to get 15% more damage on your illusions.
And set the last 5 points in Chaos for more condition damage out of your toughness.
I like your build in someway. But seems your forcing it a bit too hybrid. Try focusing a little bit more into 1 direction. I would use your build in WvW and PvP anytime just not for dungeons.
