Thing is, is there any non-group based ways to get gear at 80 for those specific pieces? I don’t want to be OP, I just want a Level 80 item. It doesn’t have to be really, really good. Just enough that I can kill something in under 15 seconds.

In other words, I’m not looking for something where I can get into dungeons and all of that other stuff. Just something to set me up where I would be able to (hopefully if this is even possible) solo the soloable content of the upcoming expansion. That’s all I want.

Please don’t question why. This is just the preferred way I wanna play this game.

Easiest profession to play as?

Personally (in favor of simple, soloable gameplay), my first was the Ranger. I love ranged classes, where my DPS doesn’t really matter a whole lot (because having a pet helps).

I also went with a Necromancer. Another ranged class. Has even more pets than a Ranger (except you have to summon them, and you can’t control them) but they will hold aggro for you. And Necros are good at handling multiple targets at once without too much trouble.
Both classes can also Melee, but a Necro seems to do it better with a Power build (Dagger/Warhorn). Plus you got a shroud, that literally saved my life in the soloable version of the final boss (you got to have the right traits for it to activate before dying and heal you a bit).

The only waste I feel, is you get one char to 100% World Completion, why do it on your other chars? After doing it once, wouldn’t you feel it’s nothing but mindless grinding if you do it again on another char?

So my main who’s a Ranger, I found out he has a few quite low level items (mainly accessories). I just want to know, what’s a good way to get quality gear to prep him for the expansion?

From what I’ve seen, this is what needs to be replaced (and where I could find something without too much effort);
Headgear(Level 80): Good
Shoulders(Level 80): Good
Chest(Level 80): Good
Gloves(Level 80): Good
Leggings(Level 80): Good
Boots(Level 62): Replace

Weapon 1, Bow(Level 77): Could be better
Weapon 2, Longsword(Level 80): Good

ACCESSORIES…
Back(Level 80): Good
Accessory 1(Level 28): Replace
Accessory 2(Level 27): Replace
Amulet(Level 80): Good
Ring 1(Level 47): Replace
Ring 2(Level 20): Replace

Questions about soloing as a Thief

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Benie.9312

Benie.9312

So I asked ingame in map chat, if it’s possible to solo as a Thief. I was given a generic, unhelpful “any class can solo as long as you do it right” answer.
What was unhelpful about it, was the whole “if you do it right” part. It wasn’t added on how to do it right.

Anyway, the main reason I’m asking is I’ve been a Rogue in WoW and I’m wondering if it’s anywhere similar to that class (or profession as you guys call it) in GW2. As in, can you backstab and have more damage if your target is behind you? I have already read that being Stealthy doesn’t last as long.

The last question, what’s the best build to solo from 1-80 (and do the endgame PS content) as a Thief? Obviously, I’m going to need lots of Power. But is there any sub-stats I must focus on (like Precision and Toughness)? And, what are the best weapons to go with to do the most DPS?

Also, thanks for the response. It seems the Content Guide seems like a “bugged” feature (except for showing where things are for map completing). Because it even says on the wiki: “Select which content is tracked in the upper right corner of GUI”. So…

'Hide Personal Story' option not working

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Benie.9312

Benie.9312

Made a thread in here about 3-4 days ago, asking if it’s possible to just get to 80 without doing the Personal Story questlines. Well, I’m currently 77 with my Necro Charr, and I had the ‘Hide Personal Story’ option active. Yet I was still seeing the thing about it in the upper right hand corner. All it did was allow the “Go here to explore this Vista/POI/etc…” thing to come back.

Was hoping it would not show the Personal Story window with the option. Is there no way to? The reason is I’m nearly Level 80, and I don’t wish to do the ‘endgame’ dungeon as I’ve already done it on another char. And I want to hide the window, so it won’t harass me.

Since doing my Level 30 Personal Story quest as my Necro Charr, I’m running into issues where I’m entering areas I’ve never explored. I know I don’t absolutely HAVE to do these PS quests, yet I wonder if I can just get to (or close to) Level 80 just by getting all the Renoned Hearts/Vistas/etc, and then do my PS quests?

Or would that screw the game up if I do that?

This is coming from a new player. I got the game in that specified timeframe. Yet something bugged me. Why that specific time? And why are they not giving veterans this refund thing instead of new players?

They have made this game what it is. If it wasn’t for them, the game simply wouldn’t exist in its popularity. So why are new players getting the red carpet, and veterans treated like kitten? I feel like not giving into this, and even thinking of boycotting… though I doubt it’ll do any good.

Also… why are they even doing this? I’ve never seen a video game company willing to fully refund what you paid for the game to get you to buy the expansion. How are they making a profit, if they’re only getting $10 “back” if you pay for the $50 Standard edition of HoT?

[Spoilers] NPC/Player bondings, and loss

in Lore

Posted by: Benie.9312

Benie.9312

First off, I really dislike this thread title limit…

And second, this will contain spoilers for the Level 60 Personal Story (at least, what I’ve seen). Hence the spoiler tag.

Now, this has to do with one NPC I really liked and cared for: Tybalt Leftpaw, part of the Order of Whispers. I like to know why wasn’t more caring put into the loss of Tybalt. At least make a memorial to remember his bravery and sacrifice. That’s all I ask.
I mean. even after defeating Zhaitan and getting the celebration, they just didn’t seem to care that Tybalt too made this happen. They didn't even bother to look for his body, or even _if_ he actually died or not. No body = No proof. You can only presume.

Was the Risen Commander supposed to be Tybalt? I wasn't really paying attention. I was too busy trying to get him to spawn.
But yeah. It just felt like the passing of Tybalt was no biggy and you’re the true hero. Yet I didn't feel like celebrating. I really miss that guy. He was funny, and I just really liked his character. Even though I had help from four other people.

(PvE): What's the point of being Level 80?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Benie.9312

Benie.9312

So I’ve been Level 80 for quite some time, but I just stopped playing as I feel there’s really nothing to do (PvE wise).
Sure, there’s crafting, killing high level enemies with your friends, getting in a Guild, getting Mastery, getting into WvW, and other things. But what is there for a soloer?

Now, I know the whole “why are you playing a multiplayer game if you only solo?” I play them, because they’re unlike those ‘freeplay after the main questline’ single player games. When I really have nothing to do after defeating the final boss.

Yet in Guild Wars 2, I’m feeling the same thing. All I’m doing is just waiting for the expansion. Why? I dunno. Why I’m asking.

I thought of this when in bed. I remember seeing another mainly Level 80 only area up in the North, which is I assume where Jormag hangs out.
Since on the Human Personal Story, we eventually take the fight to Zhaithan. I’m wondering if you can also fight the other Elder Dragons by going over to where they are (as a group)?

Or, is the defeating of them currently “gated” behind upcoming expansions (past Heart of Thorns)?

Guard have great solo potential in pve content

Hi, I’m a soloer. I currently have a Warrior, but he’s really squishy. I asked if the Guardian would be better for solo play, and was told no. That once they get into a state where all of their cooldowns happen, they get weak.
And this game straight from asking ingame.

By the way, my first char is a Level 80 Ranger. He was pretty good for soloing (to me).

Benie.9312

I’m still trying to get over the fact, how buying an extra bank slot costs 800 Gems, which is like 54g (I think, not ingame currently). In WoW, it doesn’t cost a ridiculous price.
It seems ridiculous the fact, your only bag just feels way too small. It’s the size of your starter bag.
Right now I only have like 12g on my Level 80 char, and that came from just leveling and doing my Personal Story quests.

I’m guessing the best ways to get lots of gold (PvE-wise), is by crafting & selling on the Trading Post/doing dungeon runs?
I want to use said gold to get that 800 Gems, as I refuse to go against my morals and give into micro-transactions (paying real money for Gems).

Complete Warrior noob. Need serious help

Benie.9312

I was told by several sources, to make my second character a Warrior (as it’s an “easy” class to learn). So I made a Charr Warrior.
Since hitting Level 15 and on, I’ve been having a lot of issues keeping myself alive. My health just goes down too quickly.

I asked for advice ingame on what to go for, to PvE solo as a Warrior. I was told to basically do the same build as my Ranger; with Power being primary, and Precision/Ferocity as secondary. This doesn’t seem to be the case, especially for one Heart quest in Diessa Plateau. The ‘Help Blood Legion combat ghost siege weapons" one.
I died three times doing that thing. I wanted to so badly just rush in there and take down those catapults. But, them and the ghosts just feel too kitten OP. When I said how this was unsoloable, others claim they did it.
I did finally pull that quest off, though. But still, dying three times. That’s bad. Aren’t Warriors supposed to handle pretty much anything (being a Tank)? Why do I feel so.. squishy?

Even when doing my Level 20 Personal Story quest, I went down so many times due to being overwhelmed, or taking too much damage. It should not be this hard, this early in the game. There’s got to be something I’m doing wrong. If it’s my rotation, my choice of weapons, or my choice of skills… I don’t know. I just go down too freakin’ easy.
Maybe it’s the fact I’m used to having a pet as a Ranger, and it soaking up all the damage so I won’t have to.

I thought about just focusing my gear in Vitality and Toughness, to keep me alive longer. Yet that also will hurt my DPS.
ANY helpful advice would be great.

Cannot complete my Level 80 Story quest solo

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Benie.9312

Benie.9312

(Warning, lots of drama)

So I’m a Level 80 Human Ranger. When I picture the Story quests, I picture them being soloable. The final quest, isn’t soloable at all. Having to ask for help from real players, isn’t soloing.
I can’t even do the first part of it, which is to gather the first … whatever it is. Power Cores or something. There’s a small group, with two Elite risens. I can’t just run past and gather them. I’m forced to fight this unending spawning group.

My issue isn’t killing. This is nothing but a DPS speed race. I suck at these. Manage to kill an Elite after a minute battle. It only respawns 30 seconds later. It’s just too punishing.
Advice to get through this would be great. If anyone else is having an issue doing this first thing (solo wise), don’t hesitate to reply. Otherwise, I might as well rage uninstall. As I obviously suck at this.

"No-grind philosophy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Benie.9312

Ok. I’ll do my best to keep as much drama out of this post. Please understand, everything I say is my opinion.

So, I’ve been struggling with this leveling system since I got this game about four days ago. Please understand and take into consideration, that I came from WoW and have played that game off and on for 8 years.
I came to this game, hoping it would be my “WoW Killer”. Unfortunately it’s not.

But my real concern of this game, before I got it, I watched the promo videos. And how the devs said that they don’t like the fact you have to grind. Let’s talk about that.
An example; I help this town by filling up the heart. A few minutes later, it goes under attack by Centaurs (which starts a Random Event). I defend it. All is well.
20 minutes later, it goes under attack the same way(the same Random Event). How is this not grindy? The same can be said for the escort quests. I’ve already helped this group get through a ‘mine field’ of mobs. Why.. would I want to do it again? Just for the XP? That’s grindy.
Doing/killing the same thing over and over, is grindy.

And there’s another thing that feels very grindy. In the 25-35 area for Humans, I constantly see “Boss X up” in map chat. I kill the boss. Why does it resurrect 5-15 minutes later? It’s not being spawned by a player as a random event. It naturally spawns like any normal mob.

Maybe I’m missing something here, but it feels I’m being… well… not told the truth by the devs. I’m trying not to bash them (as part of the rules).

Alright. To clarify some of your answers;
1. What I mean is game time. In WoW, the time of day is based on what time it is of the server. So if it’s 2am server time, it’s night.

4. Ah. I see it’s like WoW, but better. Excellent. But that brings up another question. In WoW, your gear (armor) takes damage through wear. Does it also do this in GW2?

6. Basically, during the tutorial quests, I was able to see what NPCs were saying in my chat window(ex: An NPC says “hi”, it showed up in my chat window). Now I’m not seeing it anymore, as I did something and I don’t know what.

7. I mean crafting professions (Armorsmith, etc…). Sorry for the confusion.

Several questions from a new player

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Benie.9312

Benie.9312

I come from WoW, so I’m no stranger to MMOs. Just made the transition yesterday. I have several questions. Though the last one (from my 1/4 day playing experience), is kind of a complaint yet also a question.

1. May I ask why isn’t time based off of server time? I actually do like this. Just curious.
2. Where do I go about crafting? I’m Level 7 currently (a Human Ranger) and been getting lots of mats, yet haven’t seen any crafting trainers. Are they in cities?
3. Three pet questions. First one, is it possible to name your pet in a later level? Does your pet age? And how do you tame a new pet?
4. What is the punishment for dying, if any (losing your stuff/XP loss/spirit run to your corpse/permadeath)?
5. Is there an AFK system?
6. I can’t seem to figure out how to go back to channel chat, where I saw what NPCs were saying in my chat window. Can’t figure out the controls.
7. How do professions work in this game?
8. Are addons allowed in this game? If no, that’s no problem. Just asking.

And the last one, the complaint/question. It’s in two parts:
Part One: The game claims to not be grindy. Yet why is it every “quest” (the heart thing), is a bar that you fill up, similar to an Apexis daily in Warlords of Draenor?
Part Two: Why is it I’m seeing quests shown by a Scout, that are a higher level than me, or getting so few quests after Level 5? How am I supposed to level, when there’s no quests? Feels a bit grindy. Again, I thought this game is against grinding. I know there’s these random events, but is there anything else?
