Same here. FPS drops to 0 for a second or two everytime I go under water. Another thing I noticed is that the anti-aliasing settings don’t do anything and the game looks way too nice even on lowest settings, with pretty detailed textures and smooth edges. There’s probably a toggle broken somewhere, which people on higher-end systems just don’t notice because they play with high or max settings anyway.
Started with the 8/25 patch.
For reference:
Windows 10, Core i5-2450M, Nvidia GeForce 540M, 8GB RAM, all drivers up to date.
Incident 1:
Location: Germany
Time & date: Sep 24, 2014, between 20:00 and 22:00 (UTC+2/CEST)
Game World: Aurora Glade
Masses of people running against walls, some blinking around, mass disconnects in WvW. Not in PvE (after 22:00).
Incident 2:
Location: Germany
Time & date: Sep 25, 2014, 11:00 (UTC+2/CEST)
Game World: Aurora Glade
Massive lags in Mount Maelstrom, people and enemies blinking around, several people’s game crashed at the same time. Forgot to write down the server IP unfortunately
Here’s me digging up old topics!
I have the same issue, except that it doesn’t even go past the very first screen (Downloading 0% (0 KB/Sek)).
I updated the drivers back when I saw the post on reddit, ran into the exact same issue, didn’t find any information other than reddit comments like “I rebooted and it worked fine afterwards” and reverted to the previous driver version, 335.23.
Now, two weeks later, I decided to try again. Nope, still the same thing. Now, however, I find this post… and the hardware config is quite similar. Same GPU, but instead of an i5-2430, I’ve got an i5-2450 (and more RAM).
The driver forces GW2 to use the Nvidia GPU by default, but I set it to definitely use the Nvidia GPU anyway. Then I checked to show the “run with Nvidia GPU” option in the context menu. Then I checked to show the GPU activity symbol in the task bar. Every time, the launcher crashes. Every time, the icon shows no programs using the Nvidia GPU. Every other program I tried started just fine (other games, Photoshop, etc.).
Then I tinkered with the 3D settings, to no avail.
Forcing GW2 to use the integrated graphics (Intel 3000) works just fine.
It looks like this particular driver/Optimus version on this particular GPU downright refuses to launch GW2 using the Nvidia GPU.
For now, there doesn’t seem to be another solution but downgrading to the previous driver version. Luckily, Nvidia also provides outdated drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/73784/en-us
or just turn filter off by default , and make using it optional
problem is most ppl dont know that filter exists let alone how to it off
They changed the default setting for EotM. And tbh, turning it on by default did make a lot of sense in the first few weeks. You wouldn’t believe the amount of (mostly) German whine you got in map chat. Now that the dust has settled, they could probably change the default setting to ‘off’, and hardly anyone would care.
Greetings from /v
If you set your client to english it won’t happen anymore, right?
It is set to English, that’s why most Germans can’t see me
Language filter turned on by default.
Be German, playing on int server with English client.
Generally helpful person, answering questions in map chat like a boss.
Megaservers introduced, nice. Game feels more alive than ever.
Be put in same map with other fellow Germans, see German map chat for the first time.
Awesome, new people to help.
Newbies ask questions.
I answer in full detail, over and over again.
“Can’t anyone help?” they ask.
They can’t see my replies.
They can’t see me.

You’re absolutely right. It only happens in Sharkmaw Caverns. It’s still weird that the Mad Mamoires work, though (see screenshot).
Also, I cannot think of other JPs other than Obsidian Sanctum (WvW).
Edit: Okay, something weird is happening. Once I tabbed back into the game after posting this, the glow of Mad Memoires had gone.
Edit2: And now it’s there again.

It’s still weird that both the Mad Memoires and torches in WvW work, isn’t it? One would assume that it’s basically the same glow, i.e. piece of code.
I’m using Nvidia (Geforce 540M), current drivers, default options.
I can’t post any screenshots right now, but my graphics are set to the lowest possible options. Trying to find the cause of this bug, I increased every option one by one (wanting to try combinations later on), but stopped when I saw that the issue could be resolved by increasing the shaders quality — which, unfortunately, results in a severe FPS drop.
I also tried increasing every option except the Shaders — to no avail.

So I got the Flames of Kryta the other day and had to try it out, but… the thing doesn’t glow. Turns out, the reason is that my shaders are set to “low”. Turning them up to “medium”, however, cuts my FPS almost by half. Both the Mad Memoires and torches in the WvW JP do glow.
So this is kind of a big deal in every light and mid armor character’s opinion. You can’t preview the Radiant skins (and presumably the other ones) with light or mid armor on. Okay, technically, you can. But the preview deletes your armor and makes it impossible to check wether or not the skin actually fits the whole image. It works fine for heavies. Light and Mid in underwear + one piece of armor.
I can confirm that while you can see your email address, no one else can. This is a bug we’re aware of and working on, but your account security has not been compromised.
That’s weird then. I saw this happen to my account a while ago after a disconnect. It startled me, and I asked my guildmates what my account name in the guild roster was. Some said it was my actual account name, others told me my entire e-mail address, which none of them could possibly have known. And I am sure of this. We’re talking Norwegians and Slovenians knowing the internal handle of my (German) university e-mail address, which I use only for university matters — and GW.

I’ve been wondering about this since beta. There used to be an “Up” marker inside the Great Collapse, where the scaffolding is (behind the gate with the Royal Architect in front). Back then, I assumed the two were somehow connected, but one has disappeared since.
Someone on the DR Wiki page said the following (spoiler?): “it’s the entrance to the crypts that Ghosts of Ascalon starts in”
As of today (at least that’s when I noticed because I haven’t logged into the game in two or three days), the game has become unplayable.
I start the game, choose any character, loading screen goes up, the wheel spins, spins, spins, stops.
Ambient sound starts, I can hear my character running, jumping, casting, NPCs talking… all behind the frozen loading screen.
After 10-20 seconds, the game crashes.
