This vagueness and ambiguity seems to be a way too common problem.
I’m sure Mitch McConnell is hard at work trying to address this appalling situation. Or was it Tracy Flick?

Xyonon, first off thanks for the useful answer (same to all you other guys, of course). As for your last post, the truth, as is so often the case, lies somewhere in the middle. I’m not new to the game but certainly have only a casual understanding of the various mesmer builds (just got back into the class recently). And if my post had been an attempt to troll… jeebus, what a boring troll that would have been.
And yes, I guess I could’ve done a little more research before posting here, I know, I know, mea culpa, but I’m addicted to the kind of helpful explanations one usually gets from the GW2 community, so I got I little lazy, ok? Can you blame me? I guess you can.

You could almost argue that the Chaos line has more individually valuable traits than any other line…
See, that’s what I thought… so I’m not crazy.
@ Maxinion: Yeah, I guess I should’ve made specific reference to this thread right in this forum as the starting point for my question. The builds that are discussed there kinda got me wondering.
Wow, look at that… it’s one of those really helpful and informative posts.
I noticed that hardly any of the popular Mesmer builds posted on these forums assign any trait points to Chaos. Why is that? Some of those traits look pretty nice to me. What am I missing?
How about a mean, nasty-/\ss, slave-driving Krait? Yeah.
I want to craft my mesmer to 80 but at lvl 30 my my mesmer is kinda boring…
I think that any class gets kinda boring around lvl 30, but I think that has more to do with the fact that you’ve spent quite some time with it at this point, so the “new character smell” has mostly worn off, and, perhaps more significantly, you probably have your long-anticipated elite skills at 30—and one of the major goals you’ve been looking forward to attaining is… well, attained. You no doubt tried them out a bit, found them moderately exciting, possibly somewhat underwhelming. Now what? Unlike in other games, there’s little in the way of new abilities etc. coming along in a while. I think that’s why a lot of people hit 30 and feel a bit of staleness. But it’s also the time to start doing dungeons, and before you know it, 70 and even 80 are a lot closer. And it’s true that at that point, you’ll likely see your class with fresh eyes.
Also just stirring the pot lol.

In my opinion, there’s too many factors involved to truly ever answer that kind of question. There’s the skills, the traits, the gear, the math, then your individual play style and skill, the things you’re fighting, etc.
I think it really comes down to answering these questions, in no particular order:
1. How much fun are you having playing a particular class?
2. How often do you get smacked down in PvE/PvP?
3. How much fun do others have playing with you?
4. Do you feel you know what you’re doing and that you’re efficient in a given situation, or are you often frustrated?
Basically then, I wouldn’t ask “Is class X better than class Z?” but rather, “Which class is better for me?”
Then how about Venus Boomhauer? Because, you know… she uses a hammer.
And in Korean GW2, undead pandas raise you!
Skellies are nice, but they’ve been done to death! Wow, that’s a killer pun! And another one!
Seriously, though, I like the fact that they came up with something a little off the beaten path for GW2 necros. Our minions are actually kinda gross and grotesque—works for me!
The male Tengu will be much more colorful then the female Tengu at least that how it works in real life with birds the male is more showy …
This, obviously—it’s elementary, Watson.
Now, as for how many of us shallow visually oriented types would roll one of those rather plain female Tengu, that’s a whole other kettle of fish…
I’ve basically cranked all the graphics setting up (except for shadows), and I’m pleased to report GW2 looks stellar with FPS consistently in the high 50s, more (around 70+) if nothing much is happening onscreen. Specs are in my sig.

Must be all the Chimichangas.
Strangely, I’ve only been noticing this recently—and I wonder now if it started after I hit 60. Can anyone confirm if this glitch is somehow tied to level or some other factor?

Awesome, thanks!
Very cool, this thread’s a real “Dungeon Thief 101.” Thanks once more to all of you for the generous advice; it’s definitely given me an understanding of the class, and changed my game for the better. Just proves once again that GW2 has one of the best communities around.
Thank you, Tachii. It’s all beginning to come together! :-)
Amazing. Just played around with some of this stuff and I keep looking at my health meter, which barely drops, and suddenly my opponent—dead. Only practicing on non-Dungeon mobs for now, of course, but still. I think I’m beginning to see the light. Thanks all!
when you are learning dungeons its best to lose a little DPS rather than force other players to rez you.
An excellent point(er). Thanks!
Thanks so much, guys! This is all good stuff.
Thanks, Impact! That’s pretty much exactly what I needed. Appreciated!
In PvE, my thief wields 2 daggers, is specced for tremendous crit chance, and has so far proven to be a neigh unstoppable damage machine. Fun! Then I decided to take her on a dungeon run, and ouch, what an embarrassment. The poor people who ran with me kept kindly reviving me, but it can’t have been enjoyable for them (nor was it for me).
So, I did some reading on how-what-not-to-fight-like as a thief in dungeons, and saw some interesting suggestions (here’s an example from these forums: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Looking-for-Thief-Dungeon-Build).
I think I’m getting the basic idea, but I must admit that it’s still not entirely clear to me how all of this is to be assembled into a functional dungeon-running thief. How does a thief approach the fight? What basic strategies/rotations are recommended for boss fights? Clearly, blinding mobs is important, as is shadow stepping, but what skill is deployed at what time? Just some fundamental info would be nice, and any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks to any of you who take the time to respond.
A little bit of research will maximize your success and enjoyment of most classes, and I feel that this is particularly true of the Necromancer. Many of our skills seem like obvious choices at first glance but are not that great (as is the case with almost all our summons, imo), while others sound unexciting but give you a big edge. Here are two links from these forums that helped me a great deal in deciding what skills and traits to pick:

Have fun!

You realize of course that gems can be bought for gold, which, er… you know.
Rather disappointing if I may say so myself. I’m sure many peeps purchased the Mac client without owning windows at all… Not very nice and just shows the level of Mac support we receive.
ESO… coming in spring… native Mac client… need one say more?
for those people having the error problem, are you guys using mac? coz the mods told me that it is a mac problem so they suggested me to use window.
That explains much but the solution is not the most practical one… ;-)
So, uh… anyone interested in joining, please review the updated application guidelines on our guild website.
We continue to expand! Join us now to help us reach the goal of having to buy a bigger guild license! No chip-in needed.
For those looking to join and still unsure of what kind of company they’ll be in, please do visit our guild website. And once you join the Lodge, remember to sign up for the site, as well!
Also, remember that we now have a Vent server. Completely optional to use, but it’s there!
Hey mods/devs!!! I DARE YOU to post something in this thread! lol
They’re too busy deleting /bumps in the ‘Guilds’ forum…
Just a note to those looking to apply:
I am not going to be able to check my in-game mail very regularly these days, if you send me a message and I do not reply soon, don’t loose heart—just contact one of our competent officers and members instead.
Please review the recent changes made to ranks with regard to access to guild stash, treasure trove, and deep cave.
We are still looking for new members to bolster our efforts, particularly in WvW. And even though we’ve grown a bit, we’re no less COZY than we were when I first wrote our recruitment post.
Ok. Serious update about the guild (not a mere ‘bump’): Our roster of officers has changed due to continuing growth. If you have trouble reaching members of the White Lodge in-game, please refer to our website for the most current list of members.
So what do you suggest? Contacting Transgaming?
I’ll tell you what I suggest… wait until ESO arrives. They’re giving us a native client. End of story.
I jump in the air, I’m dancing for joy,
I have a prescription from Dr. McCoy!
Wow. Sorry to hear that. Anyway, a bump’s a bump. Thanks!
Keeping it real. Or visible, at least. If you can see it, does that mean it exists? Hmmm?
Up, up, and away…
Invite sent, vanillamon! Looking forward to seeing you in the Lodge.
Honestly, these forums move way too fast.

And again I do my bumpin’ duty.
