The post says that skins will be pve/pvp transferable and vice versa, and that existing skins will have value. “Have value” hopefully means “still be transferable,” because I’d feel kind of lame getting my arah set in PVP again.
I’m referring of course to PVP light masquerade and medium stalwart armor (I’m aware that bits and pieces of this one are available through LS, but the full set is not.) This is something that’s been requested a number of times since launch, and although I can’t say I understand the complications inherent to adding these armor sets to PVE (they were in beta, if I recall), I can say I can’t understand almost completely wasting two armor sets. Honestly, these are my favorite sets for both medium and light, and it pains me a little bit that we’ve gone so long without this being amended. They’re completely unique sets, and most of the rest of our armor choices are pretty generic. It would liven things up a lot! I mean… if we’re fixing world bosses, surely it wouldn’t take a whole lot of resources to fix this? It would make a number of players VERY happy. I would even buy these from the gem store if I had to. Both of them!

I like 1h axe, but I think I would rather have scythe fill the gap of an AOE melee 2hander for us. Something not terribly different from how spear is, but terrestrial. I love dagger, but it pales in comparison to how fun spear is, and most of the offhands we have are lacking that melee charm.
It really is a brilliant way to get the candy out of the economy once the wings skins are starting to get used up in a few months. It seems kitten now, but I wish they’d done something like this with Halloween.
It doesn’t really add much as far as the theory talk goes, but I will say that the hybrid build that nemesis posted is really, really enjoyable. It feels more like a WoW lock than a gw1 necro, but it’s versatile, fun, does decent damage if played well, and it’s easy to switch stuff around for open world PVE and other situations. Full condition necro with rabid made me feel like wet dirt with dots. Tried it with rampager, still wasn’t quite right. The hybrid build made me love this class how I wanted so hard to.
While I’m not denying that this is annoying, and luckily did not have the same ill luck, there is a fix that some of us who got the Halloween back items have had to go through. It’s slightly expensive though, if 4-15 gold loss (depending on if you have stones already) is a lot to you.
You will need two of the level 80 transmutation crystals. Buy a backpack kit from the TP – the killer whale quaggan, for example. It has to be the kit. It comes with the backpack skin, and a white back piece. Transmute the wings to the white back piece and it will become account bound to transmute again on another character. Sell the other skin to recoup some of your loss. Remember that you can always double transmute to white items to transfer skins to other characters, and Anet has said in the past that this is NOT an exploit and is totally ok. As far as I know, you should have no issues doing this. I would verify everything I’m saying in map/guild chat before your do it though. Always get a second opinion in case something has changed.
They’re not going to release a patch just for this. It’s annoying, but not game breaking. 40mb to download a new exe isn’t much for us, but that’s still server resources for them that they can’t really justify not consolidating this fix with the next patch, which will be tomorrow. I think their quality assurance needs more work with these patches to prevent this sort of thing, but I understand and accept that it would be a waste of resources to patch JUST this when a patch is coming tomorrow.
I am an adult, I am capable of being patient, and I do not mind waiting for my shiny blue wings because I realize that I will still get them. Instead of flipping kitten over things like this, how about we provide feedback that will actually help them fix the core mechanics of the meta/game?
I opted for t3 helm, t2 coat, t1 everything else. My only complaint is that it doesn’t hold certain colors very well. It’s helped to have a skin color similar to what I’m trying to dye to (this is abyss, midnight ice, and midnight sky.)
Anet should hire Shriketalon.
A million times this.
If done properly, I would rock this weapon. A more PVE friendly melee 1h is something we need badly.
Anyone know where it could be up presently? my work schedule is making this impossible :/
Edit: Presently up on JQ.

I ran Honor of the waves explorable with a group the other day that did this. Unfortunately I was a little tipsy when we ran it, and it didn’t really occur to me that it was an ‘unintentional feature’ until all was said and done. It also helps that someone clearly indicated at that point that it was a bug. Once again, hindsight is always 20/20.
Apparently after the zealot fight, it’s possible to skip an entire path and go straight to the plunderer fight. There’s a tunnel/alcove in path 3 leading to the area where Wollam the Plunderer is, and after a certain amount of time has passed (several minutes) it’s possible to clip through the divider in place (or it might flat out disappear, I honestly forget) and go right to the end of path 2. I wouldn’t be able to tell you precisely where, for reasons stated above. However, I’m pretty sure that it was somewhere in the main chamber, and I’m sure that you could find it without much effort. If it helps at all, we did path 1 first without any issues.
Our group consisted of a charr necro, a human guardian, a sylvari ranger (myself), and I have no recollection of what else.
I searched the forums just now and couldn’t find any mention of this. I don’t really have any idea how well known this is, but I figured you guys would probably want to get right on this one considering that for every lone person in a group who knows about it, 4 more are about to find out. And of course, it goes without saying that I have no intention of repeating this, as I like not being banned.
Let me begin by saying this is neither a discussion about ascended gear, nor a place to flame one another (or Anet) back and forth so that the devs have no motivation to read through the thread and nothing gets accomplished. It just isn’t. There are a ton of other places to post your thoughts about ascended gear. What this IS, however, is a place for us to peacefully share our ideas about what kind of progression mechanics we would want to see implemented in the game in the future.
Now. That being said, let’s begin. Anet is right to recognize that progression in MMO’s is important, and I do somewhat agree that the launch version of the game didn’t have nearly enough methods to progress your character. Progression is a huge part of why we play MMO’s. Progression mechanics make play feel rewarding, and they give us a sense of permanence. However, a lot of MMO’s on the market right now are trapped primarily in a gear based progression system, where ever 3 months or so all of your progress is completely overwritten and you’re forced to start over. Guild Wars 1, however, was different.
In Guild Wars 1, there were numerous ways to progress your character without invalidating your old progress. Yes, power creep did happen over time, but the old was never completely usurped by the new. For example, PVE only skills not only served as a gating mechanic, but gave us motivation to go out and accomplish things in the PVE world without ever causing any distress to the PVP crowd. Granted, that itself was usually a little bit grindy, but with newer technology and a much better resource pool, isn’t is plausible that something like this could be added to Guild Wars 2 in a way that doesn’t feel any different than playing the game normally? Something organic, and intuitive, and fun besides?
For example, what if PVE only skills could be tied to progress and objectives in a certain level 80 zone (think temple battles in Orr, but with said zone a lot more geared entirely toward a cohesive goal – As in, what if Orr was entirely about taking and keeping the temples, and all of the events and content tied into that as a considerable and legitimately rewarding challenge?) , and then used as a gating mechanic for a dungeon within that zone? What if we could add some extra incentive to do this by still making these skills somewhat effective outside of said zone, and in PVE at large?
As far as PVP and WVW goes, I’m sure there has to be some sort of progression mechanics that could be better implemented without creating a power gap between players who have a lot of time on their hands, and players who don’t.
Now, those are just my ideas for how better progression could be implemented into the game. I want to hear your ideas, and I want Anet to hear them too. Folks, we need to stop bickering, and instead come together in a positive way and brainstorm ideas of how the game could be better tailored to how WE want to play. So put your thinking caps on, and let’s put our heads together in the hopes that Anet reads this and something good comes of it.
Pretty much my only qualm with the event is that I’ve been on the road and have missed almost the entire thing. As a fanatical Halloween enthusiast, this is quite the letdown :/
But from what I can see, this event is amazing. I just wish it didn’t have to end so soon after! I’d be cool with like… the 5th maybe?

Also, probably worth noting, this is an NA guild. However, if it’s even possible to add them, EU members are more than welcome. I’m looking into a voice server as well, but that depends on interest.

After a few weeks of floating from guild to guild, I’ve noticed that even though a lot of the guilds I’ve joined are great to run WvW and dungeons with, none of them are quite the social environment that I’m looking for. I can’t help but think to myself, “Wouldn’t it be great if my guildies knew who Peter Murphy was? Or agreed with me that Nick Cave is his own genre of music? Or maybe sometimes conversations about what class is the best would eventually devolve into conversations about how the first two Cure albums are better than the others? Or maybe somebody else to talk about the new Deadfly album with besides my dog?” Well, being proactive as I am, I’ve decided to create that environment.
This is a CROSS SERVER guild, and will remain so assuming guesting is ever enabled. That being said, I’m centered in Fort Aspenwood presently. This is a SOCIAL guild… the emphasis is not just on playing together (though that would be fabulous), but having a place to hang out, talk, and share common interests. You are more than welcome to have another guild, as we will probably not be able to do much WvW without relocating, and as I do myself (for the time being).
This is NOT a guild for elitists. Leave your ego at the door. This is also NOT a guild for anyone who is simply trying to impress people. This is NOT a guild for the old to belittle the young, though there is a tenuous (I’m willing to make exceptions when appropriate) age limit of 18. This is a guild for people of a more or less underground scene to get together and talk about how Rozz Williams didn’t look half bad in a dress, while swinging flaming swords at monsters.
Currently, I’m just starting up. We have no members aside from myself, and my wife whenever she gets around to buying an account. We have no amenities to speak of, though I will provide them as I am able to and as interest (hopefully) grows. This is partially because I have absolutely no idea where to recruit people in-game.
So basically, if you like deathrock, goth rock, post-punk, darkwave, post-industrial, cold wave, dark cabaret, dark ambient, etc, etc… join up! Let’s face it – the environment that I described will never exist unless we put in the effort and make it happen.
If interested, PM, Message, or Add me in-game: Bolfry the Umbral, UN above.
Also, it goes without saying, I’m looking for officers.
Also. I feel I should add, I have no problem roflstomping mesmers on my wells necro 1v1. If you counter us properly and you’re aware of what defenses we’re using and know how to get past them, we’re not all that hard to take out. All of our defenses are active, so you just have to be aware of what we’re doing at any given time.
Going back a bit to GW1, this class reminds me more of the Ritualist, which was OP as hell with certain builds, than the original mesmer. So as someone who played a lot of ritualist, I would respond “It’s just OP enough.” It has a lot of shortcomings to make up for how great it has to potential to be, and requires a lot of effort and skill to play.
This is, IMO, the only class where every weapon is viable… and if it isn’t totally viable, it’s still really fun. My advice is just to experiment with each one and find what’s most enjoyable for you. Personally, I find myself using sword/pistol and sword/torch way more than anyone ever should, simply because it’s fun.
I kind of dislike scepter though – it just feels slow. The third ability is amazing, it’s just I don’t care for the other two – especially the first, since it’s really slow and the clones are basically useless except kittenter ammo (The DOWNED clone is better – it inflicts confusion at least)
The only thing I can say in favor of scepter really is that our off-hand choices generally make up for the lameness of the first two skills (which I feel are fine in PVE, at least, but are pretty much crap otherwise.) But yeah… I totally prefer running sword and then a 2-hander, or just both 2-handers situationally.
