A Darker Story

Please, no more character deaths, it’s been overdone (to death).

There are other ways to achieve a darker story (betrayal, abuse, morals tested, having to sacrifice a major goal… ect).

Character death should be reserved for only the most rarest occasion, otherwise they become the norm and their death means nothing at all.

Where will we go to in the next expansion?

I think they are doing a reverse order of the GW1 campaigns while still filling out the map for the original GW1 game. So this next expansion fill out the Ring of Fire Islands while going up to Eye of The North areas so we will be facing Primordus and Jormag at the same time. Which will then lead to Crystal Desert and Elona, where we will have to deal with the after effects of our deal with Palawa Joko back in GW1, and Kralkatorrik. Then on to Cantha, the Deep Sea Dragon, and whatever mess they have going on there.

After that I wouldn’t be surprised if Abaddon somehow returns.

I still don’t get why they are both in a relationship together in the first place. What do they see in each other? That whole let’s take a break and learn more about these two characters, just confused me more on this.
Yes I understand that we needed some back story on them so that it would lead to this new story arc, but I just couldn’t get over them not meshing well. Their poor on screen chemistry ended up being a distraction to why we were doing all of this in the first place. Kept looking for that golden moment of “ah that’s why she loves her” that never happened. I would almost have wished they had kept their back story a kind of a secret or hinted at bits and pieces of it, at least it would have been more interesting and the fan theories would be amusing.
Oh and somewhere in there was something about an egg and tree dragons thrown in.

I think the one thing everyone forgets is that most of the lore information we receive is through the characters themselves in the game. In other words, we receive most of our information that we base as fact on what is called an UNRELIABLE NARRATOR.
The characters in game believe the information they have is true, so they present it to us as fact when in fact that may not be the case.

Look at us out here in real life, how many times have we been told something is true only to be later told that what we believed to be true was not?

Have you ever noticed that most of the videos that are released have voiced over narration from characters in game? That what we know of the Dragons and the Pale Tree is what the characters have told us in game. What if the information we are told out of game, is based on what we would find out while playing the game, which is based on perceived facts gathered from the characters in game.

What if they are wrong?

Do we know the information the Pale Tree gives us is fact, or is it only what she believes to be true? How do we know, unknown to her, that Mordremoth has not just been feeding her misinformation or twisted truths sowing mistrust and discord?

Perhaps they only have part of it figured out. We only see what they do, and none of them (save Scarlet, and only her interpretation of it) have seen the big picture.

Primordus does corrupt living things. Personal Story → Whispers Order → Skritt lesser race storyline. Tybalt pretty much confirms this when talking about the destroyer eggs.

3 Ideas You'd Like to See in GW

1. Racial looking class skills. Starting out each race’s skills should look like what their race would do to use that skill. Some examples for clarification: a human elementalist would pray to their gods to use their skills, while an Asura would tap the eternal alchemy to access theirs. A Charr engineer’s turrets would look Charr-ish while a Sylvari’s would look Sylvari-ish. Don’t like how your race pulls off their skills? Go out into the world and learn one of the other races. That point in the personal story when we choose an order, or how about the lesser races quest? Pick up how they do their skills as a reward for completion. Sell different skill skins for gems on the Black Lion, and offer new skins with upcoming expansions that we can go out and learn. Yes this would be a ton of work, but would make the game look more polished.

2. Better utilize the Personal Instance. If we are off doing something in the world have NPC’s in the instance comment on what we have been doing. Let us decorate it with trophy’s we have found while out exploring. Have the Instances be decorated for each of the holidays. Let us choose from a set of themed decorations, that we can have on all year round if we so wish (everyday can look like Wintersday in your Personal Instance). Just do something with it please.

3. Give us access to different weapons per class without including or tying them to a specialization. My Necro wants to use the Hammer skills she somehow lost 250 years ago, but doesn’t want to wait another 250 just to balance out a spec line.

I would have gone with The Acrobat.

The specialization reminds me of Diana The Acrobat from the old Dungeon and Dragons cartoons.

Yes I know, thief has acrobatics already, just that I think this specialization fits better with the name.

It is really interesting playing through as a Sylvari and then as another of the races and seeing (hearing) the differences.
I do hope they add something in that is a bit different for each of the other races this expansion.
Remember this is the first time the Pact has hit rock bottom (this so completely). During a crisis such as this you would expect to see old prejudice arise. In a situation of lost hope we would be seeing (and hearing) to both the most ugliest and the most heroic actions in people.
Before the Pact was formed there was a feeling of mistrust between each of the races, not to mention each of the Orders . They each had their own obligations and troubles, at a low like this, some of them might be feeling that these obligations look more viable.

Basically give the other races (and each of the Orders) some love too.

So first Beta Weekend trying out the Necromancer with the Greatsword.

I want to like it, I really do, but it feels a tad off (and too slow). It also doesn’t feel, well necromancer enough. I read or heard somewhere that it was supposed to have this big horror movie monster theme like feel, falls a little flat on that.

Damage output could use some improvement as well. I get that it is supposed to be kind of tank-ish (or that is how it seems to come off as being) but Necro could use a little push on their damage output, as a light armor wearer we need it.

The Reaper line is lackluster, and really if you are going to insist on having it tied to the greatsword, maybe show it some more greatsword love. Honestly though, it just sort of seems like you just threw the line and weapon together, it doesn’t really flow well with the GS.

And I gotta say I HATE the idea of the new weapons being forced to certain specialization lines, takes away from the feeling of customizing and playing your character how you want to.

Cleanup of Orr. (Not what you think...)

They could, after the Orr cleansing mission, make the environment look like it’s healing for your character (add a live plant here and there, sunny skies, ect.) only you can see this, anyone else who hasn’t done the mission it would look the same as always.
After the completion of the PS they could then have all the mobs in Orr (maybe even all the risen mobs everywhere else too) have yellow tags, they only attack you if you attack them or are grouped with someone who attacks them. This would add to the feeling of Zhaitan’s waning influence.

Speaking of writing plots for episodic drama, such as TV-series or games like this, I think Babylon 5 sets the baseline for writing. The series was written to be specifically 5 seasons long, with the plot set before the pilot was ever filmed. This in an era where you will never get funding for a TV-series for more than one season ahead.

This allowed the writers to put in a lot of stuff you saw clearly, but didn’t realize until it came apparent later in the story and wen’t “holy kitten it was there the whole time!”

I hope Anet has written the plotline for GW2 until the very end of the game’s future, then went back and added small stuff along the way that we won’t or just can’t figure out before we come to the spot where they are revealed, but immediately can connect to previous stuff and get that “holy kitten” feeling.

But I’m afraid they’ve just got very vague lines of what they plan to do and the plot is being written as we go…

I’m going to second hoping Anet has taken a page from Babylon 5’s book and have written out the whole thing first.

In fact they need to have mandatory Babylon 5 nights and watch the whole series, very good example of what the living story should (could) be.

The other thing that could be causing cliffhanger overload is that for an mmo, episodes may just be too short of a content type. Would it help if they aimed more for a mini-series content like feel? Maybe clumping the episode content into four bigger mini-series, with a few puzzles, dungeon updates/addons, and pvp maps thrown in-between make the living story feel like a smoother experience?

BrotherNumsie.8123

Introducing new temporary content every two weeks is fine, as long as said content is around for at least a month so everyone has a chance to do it. Permanent content should be released every four to six months in the form of new permanent dungeons, jumping puzzles, new lands to explore, new pvp maps, new wvw content, and continuation of the personal story. Living story could build up to the release of the permanent content or have nothing to do with it.

Suggestions: The Home District

in Suggestions

Posted by: BrotherNumsie.8123

BrotherNumsie.8123

As of right now in game I hardly ever go into my Home District, aside from a few quests in the personal story there is no need to. This seems like a total waste of some very good potential.

Players have been complaining (and rightly so) about their warband, crewe, ect. falling off the face of the earth when they are done with that part of the story. Well have them interactive characters in your Home District. Yes I know they are already there (or should be), but they don’t do anything.

As I progress through my story, word should get back to my friends about my adventures and they should have opinions about them and advice to give me (good or bad).

Sometimes it’s not all about me, my friends may have a problem that they need help with, some sage advice I can give them, the sense knocked back into them, or a hankerin’ for some good Canthin food. Not a problem! I’m there to help.

Quests given by npcs in their Home Districts would be great filler in between levels from one part of the story quest to another. It would be another option then going out and farming hearts. You could also use them to introduce other zones in the game that a person would not have ventured to yet if they where just following the path of their personal story to level (yes you can just do that).

“While I was out and about I thought you might like this.” As I’m killing mobs, gathering materials, or visiting shops I should chance upon some objects that someone in my Home District might think is pretty cool. Like the head of a champion boss to put up in the bar, or a vase of flowers an npc can put in their house, or a really “nice” sweater that one of them can feel obligated to wear whenever I show up.

While I’m gone dealing with Dragons and such, things may gotten into disarray in my Home District. Perhaps a rival gang, warband, seps show up and tries to take over. Can’t have that, time to clear them out.

A year rolls along since my toon entered the world, my friends throw me a party. You can then recieve your birthday present, one in a series of mini pets only avalible as a birthday present (a nod to GW1). Holidays around the corner? Who would I rather spend time with then my friends?

Hunter characters can stow their pets they find in a stable/ corral, that of course attracts the attention of the local children. It would be kind of cool If they had interactions like grooming and feeding. (The animals, not the children)

When I bring someone with me into my Home District the npc should acknowledge them, and the person I bring in should be able to interact with them. Like say sample a dish or brew at the bar that I have unlocked through my travels.

Wait what about housing?

While having a house would work for human characters, It would not really work for the other races too well. Besides in essence really, the Home District is your house. You would decorate it with the actions you do in the game and the progress you make in the personal story and random really cool stuff you find.

But what about this really cool weapon/ armor (maybe not so much right now) I have?

Enter the obsessive fanboy, he/she wants to be just like you, even has this shrine…. creepy.

Or you can just display them in the bar.

…..but my race doesn’t have a bar.

Add one (Anet), or maybe a break room for the asura, or something.

Which brings up another point, some race districts seem a little lack luster, an update would be nice to bring them up to par with the human district, which IMO got it right.

All this should be completely optional. If you don’t want to mess with your Home District, you shouldn’t have to.

What would you like to see done with the Home District, or are you happy with things as is?

There seems to be a new NPC in front of the Imperator’s Core in the Black Citadel, Adamant Watch [Refugee Coordinator], who gives the impression that the Flame Legion may be one of the parties behind this event.

And now I see the post above, lol.

Seeing how Flame Legion deals with well, fire, and we also have ice (not Flames’s thing) could the other party be a Son of Svanir? They tend to do there own thing without consulting Jormag first, most of the time.

What if Legendary Armor existed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

BrotherNumsie.8123

I’d like to see an epic quest line following the footsteps of the original prophecy game. At each mission point in the original game there will be a group of quests recalling the history of the area and what has happened since then (you can even add a scavenger hunt to each area that people have been asking for too). It would be nice if we saw this from the eyes of the diffrent peoples that live and had lived there, not just the humans point of view.
At the end you would recieve an updated version of an original prohecy game armor based on your armor class and/or profession that you are. You would then do this for each of the games and the expansion that came after.

If it was in his instance (his personal story) then it should not have made the choice for your character’s personal story. My husband and I did this last week, and both of us made choices for two different orders, we did his first, exited, and then did mine. If you are certain that you were indeed in his story quest, I’d submit a bug report on it in the bug forums. (it may take a few days for them to answer) I believe they said something about being able to roll back your character (only once) at some point but not sure if this is in game yet.

Spoiler alert: About the last quest..

in Personal Story

BrotherNumsie.8123

My husband and I played Guild Wars together, we duoed everything. (With the help of henchies and heros, we miss you Cynn, Mhenlo, and Koss’ Hair.) Him being in the military and being deployed and stationed overseas, this is what we did on our “dates”.

We’ve enjoyed the game so far, although a bit dismayed that we are unable to do dugeons and experience that storyline together.

But this was ok, maybe, after all we could do the personal story together, right?

That’s when we started hearing rumors that the last mission was in fact a dungeon and we would not be able to complete the game together. (and let’s not forget, it also completes the story for the dungeon storyline as well, nothing like jumping in on a story at the end) Jumped on the forums and found out this rumor is in fact true.

Well that’s a bummer.

I just really can’t understand it. The personal storyline scales up, until that point (as do the dynamic events) to the number of player characters you have in your party. (or in the case of events how many are in the area) So why don’t all storylines (including dungeons) do this? Now I’m not saying all dungeons should do this, only the story part should.

It’s just that after playing the first game, and the way they had it set up for groups, this seems like a giant step back and I really hope that by the time we get to the end they will have fixed this.

Transmutation Stones, does the current system work for you?

in Suggestions

Posted by: BrotherNumsie.8123

BrotherNumsie.8123

The current Transmutation system based on armor type seems over complicated and impractical.

Example; I have just bought two pieces of cultural armor that, of course, have undesirable stats for my level. So I tried using the stones, and they do not work.

Why?

It’s because the cultural armor is a rare type and the other is a fine type.

This really seems rather silly, If I like the look of a piece of armor I should be able to have that look.

So how do we fix this?

Get rid of the type based system and instead make them only usable by the characters level. Have four different stones (twenty levels per) that can transmute any armor I want (with restrictions to usability of course).
So levels 1-10 I use Transmutation Stone A, and as soon as I hit level 21 I then I must switch over to using Transmutation Stone B, and so on. Armor is then soulbound to that character. (That may be the case with the current system, I wouldn’t know, see above example)

Or we can just do away with all restrictions (besides armor class) and go with a simple one stone does all.

Anymore ideas how to fix this, or are you happy with the way things are now?
