Starter kits?

in Players Helping Players

Does anyone have any idea what the profession starter kits from the Laurel Vendor are about?

They are a “one-time account purchase” each and I can only think that they somehow autolevel the said profession. They’re mentioned in the patch notes as well, but with no description.

Since they’re a “one-time purchase”, could they potentially max the profession?…

Game disconnect and progress lost

Same happens here. I log in, do some progress, then after 5-10 minutes I get disconnected and my character gets reverted.

Everything is reverted to what the status was prior to the patch. Map position, inventory, discovered waypoints/PoI, even traits, if I change them.

There’s already a sound for whispers and sometimes it’s even obnoxious (when playing at night, for example).

As for a whisperbox, I found out that creating a new chat windows just for whispers and selecting “Flash on unread messages” in the drop-down options menu of the new window is pretty useful.

If u think about it, precursor is almost free

Excuse my ignorance, but where did you get the idea that the MF has a 20% chance to yield a precursor?

“The higher the level and rarity of the items to be combined directly translates to a greater chance of getting a precursor.” 1

Pulling numbers out of your posterior is not a good idea. Also, probabilistics don’t work that way. Pseudo-random number generators (which are used to generate “Randomness” via software) work a bit differently and I bet my left hand that if there indeed is a X% chance of a precursor to pop out of the forge, that probability applies to the forge itself (read: used by all players), not to a player itself.

Abstraction of graphic settings and hardware

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Bufnitza.3284

Bufnitza.3284

Back in the day, me and my friends would usually test this sort of “upgrades” by lending hardware to one another. Don’t you have a friend who has a comparable graphics card to the one which you want to buy? If so, maybe he can lend it to you for a day so you can see if it makes a difference. Abstraction by definition is… abstract. There’s nothing conclusive that can be drawn from it.

Runes problem

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Bufnitza.3284

Bufnitza.3284

If the level requirement of the rune is ok, you open your hero panel (default H), double click on the rune and then click on the piece of armor you wish to apply it to.

Note that applying a rune to a piece of armor will destroy an existing rune that is already on that piece of armor and that the only way to recover an applied rune is by using a salvage kit, which has a random chance of recovering it (don’t count on them… the RNG is usually very unfavorable). Salvaging the item destroys it, regardless of the recovery success.

Make personal and guild bank mgmt consistent

Bufnitza.3284

Hello,

I did a basic search and nothing popped up, so here it goes:

Currently, in the personal bank, I can double click on items to transfer them between the bank and my bags. That extremely convenient, especially when you need to drag out multiple adjacent items from the bank (e.g. dyes).

However, I was suprised (and not in a good way) that the same does not apply to the guild bank. Double clicking on an item in the bank does nothing. Even worse, double clicking on an item in the bags has the “use” effect. Some might call it a “minor inconvenience” and I can agree to some extent. However, we’re human and we have reflexes (yay for Pavlov!), so out of reflex I still double click sometimes on items and I facepalm everytime I eat something or consume a dye. Moreover, the inconsistency makes no sense from an user experience point of view.

Could this be looked at, please!

Sincerely yours,
A customer tired of facepalming.

Lambent, the option to change the e-mail address was removed a while ago to prevent intruders from changing the address on phished GW2 accounts.

Currently, the only way to change your e-mail address is via support ticket. They will ask you for game key, purchase details (like date and invoice number or purchase order number for digital purchase, etc), so make sure you have all your data handy.

How many slots does the "new bank tab" have?

in Players Helping Players

Bufnitza.3284

Below the unsuprisingly small default bank tab there is an option saying “Click to unlock additional bank tabs using gems” and clicking it pops a dialog box asking if I want to buy an additional bank tab for 600 gems.

Since apparently someone thought that players have some sort of crystal globe or magic voodoo incense, the UX designers left out a crucial detail: how many slots does the new bank tab have.

So, how many slots do the additional tabs have? Do they scale like guild tabs? (50/100/100) or are they stuck in the “30” department? (mind you, 600 gems for 30 tabs is a tad too much, methinks).

Well, QA efforts are really lousy in there… I can’t see any way that they’d have so much trouble on a patch except for almost complete lack of smoke testing and regression testing.

Or maybe they worship Agile and need to release no matter what (Protip: if this is the case, hire a hitman to “solve” the manager who came up with it).

I can’t really give you advice on the class choice. However, regarding levelling, it encompasses hearts, DEs and crafting. I’ve levelled 4 toons (3 were human) and I had absolutely no problem with keeping the pace level-wise, even in Queensdale and Kessex Hills. I did hearts, events as they popped up and levelled 2 professions on each. Every time I ended up as level 18 out of Queensdale and level 32 out of Kessex Hills (thus, overlevelled).

Don’t disregard DEs, as they are quite important (a gold medal will usually give you 10-15% of a level, not including the mobs you kill and people you ressurect during the DE). 10 events are already one level… and you need 5 for daily achievement anyway.

Hi. When you are right clicking on the items, make sure they are in your bags, not your bank or guild bank. Also, I don’t know if it applies, but try to move them out of “invisible” bags or safe boxes, if that’s the case.

Hello,

I don’t know if this is the right section to post this, but I’ll fire it up anyway.

Does anyone else use Small scale UI text? I feel that the Normal scale is too big, especially at higher resolutions. However, if I select the Small scale for text, instead of becoming smaller, it is just as chunky, but also unreadable in some areas (TP, tooltips, and some more).

Here’s what I mean: http://i.imgur.com/Xs6nY.jpg

Then again, I’m asking, is this the same for everyone or is there something broken on my computers? (both laptop and desktop behave the same)

It’s easy to argue that those achievements are optional, of course, but for more casual players, those achievements are one of the few ways they can keep up with the more regular players in terms of obtaining karma and tokens for forging.

The average casual player doesn’t give a rat’s butt about achievements, karma and tokens. You’ve got your facts wrong.
Also, a casual “keeping up” with the non-casuals doesn’t make sense…

Crafting the same item with different looks

in Crafting

Posted by: Bufnitza.3284

Bufnitza.3284

Hello,

Here’s a simple, potentially dumb question about crafting: A crafted item (talking mostly armor pieces here) has a default look. Can I somehow craft that item to have a different look? (by adding more materials, I assume?)

I know you can craft an item and then use a TS to switch its appearance, but I’m asking about directly crafting an item with a different look.

Thanks!

"Server time"

Bufnitza.3284

Hello,

I was playing with the clock settings in the options today and I noticed that you can show the current time on the minimap (yes, I know I’m late to the party).

This made me ponder about event reset timers (such as for the “Daily” achievement or the time when the guild gets rep for members who logged in) and was assuming they happened at 0:00 server time. However, I don’t understand one thing. My home realm is european, but the “Server time” is still in the PST timezone (GMT-8). Does this mean that events reset at 8:00 GMT?

Looking forward to reading your thoughts.
