I am as casual as they come, and hell will freeze over before I do a raid in GW2. Even so, I think it makes perfect sense if legendary awards are only available from completing raids. This content is lined up to be the hardest to be found anywhere in the game, so why shouldn’t it be rewarded with the best rewards in game? The hard-core raiders deserve that kind of progression.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cassandra Nea.2507

Cassandra Nea.2507

My take on the new dailies:
They don’t really bother me – but I wish they did.

Before, I would log in – wonder what to do – look at the list of optional dailies, and let that guide me into various activities.

Now, I log in – get a bag of goods – look at the dailies, and think “Nah, I don’t really want to go to Ascalon today”.

I really like the extra bag of goodies you get from doing each of the dailies, but if I don’t feel like going to a vista in Timberline Falls that day, I simply won’t do it.

And I don’t feel like I am missing out on anything by not doing it.

The end result for me? I log in, get my bag of daily goods and log out again. Where before I would log in, look at the list of dailies and spend at least half an hour completing as many as I needed to get my laurel.

Before: Half an hour in game or more, which might or might not lead to me spending more time in game.

Now: 5 minutes or less.

I know people will tell me that I can just make up a list of tasks to do, and it will be like having the old list of dailies. But it’s just not the same thing for me. I can’t explain it, but the bottom line is that the new system has given me less reason to stay in game once I log in than the old system did.

Thank you for the new Jumping Puzzle!

In reality, my brother was the victim and I really have no idea why he was kicked except it was sudden and without warning (the guy admitted as much).

I have no idea if its really because they have a guildie who has Nomads/Magi but when I thought about it, it was the only reason I could think of.

I’m confused as hell. You have no idea why your Brother was kicked but the guy who did it admitted it was sudden and without warning?

You have no idea if it was because a guildie insisted on using Nomad/Magi but it’s the only reason you can think of?

Is it a normal thing for you to make up wild scenarios to explain things you don’t understand?

Edited to add that the screenshot posted above by the OPs Brother doesn’t really clear anything up for me but simply makes the whole thing seem more suspicious.

Are we ever going to get a meaningful, official response to this? While – as I stated – I am not a lore fiend, I find it deeply disturbing that ArenaNet seems to have so little regard for their own creation that they chop it into illogical pieces the way it has been done here. It makes me concerned for the future direction of the game, and I would really appreciate a response.

My confusion is now complete. I have reached level 80 and thereby advanced to the “Temple of the Forgotten God”. Before I can go there though, I must meet with Trahearne at Fort Trinity. The Marshal greets me with a speech about the inconsolable Ceera and her husband Tonn, who gave his life for the Pact. I am told I cannot take this tragedy on my own shoulders – their sacrifice was needed (I am paraphrasing here).
I go “Huh? Who the heck is Tonn or Ceera?”. I have never met these people before, and now it seems I never will….
Moving on – Trahearne beckons me to a distant corner of the fort and bursts out: “It is now safe to show yourself”. Out pop Sayeh al’Rajihd, who I am politely introduced to. She says she is honoured to meet me (or something similar) and that she has heard a lot about me. I am confused, since I met her at the end of chapter 7 (I was confused then too since she said it was good to see me again, while I hadn’t met her at that point).
Sayeh and I go to the Temple of the Forgotten God, where we meet a Mouth and Eye of Zhaitan. I am astonished again at the idea of Zaitan having eyes and mouths, even though I killed one of those eyes in chapter 7.

I haven’t gone any further – at this point the plot holes are so glaring that I just don’t know how anyone can overlook them.

I have to ask. Are you one of the “new players” that they made these changes for in the first place? If so, I believe they did this to make the game less confusing, or so I think. If you are saying it’s confusing now, then I still have to ask Anet what justification did they use to make these changes?

I am a veteran player all the way back from early access, and I had 4 other level 80ies already. The specific character that I used for this latest run through the personal story is a guardian that I created after the september patch with the NPE. Even if I was a brand new player I don’t believe there is any way things would be less confusing with the way the personal story is put together now, with events taking place out of order, various npc’s being thrown in with no explanation and so on (as in the Tonn and Ceera example I mentioned above, and with Sayeh al’Rajihd greeting me in chapter 7 with “we meet again”, only for me to be introduced to her in chapter 8). If I were new, and hadn’t gone into this knowing that there are now some huge inconsistencies in the story, I would be completely befuddled by what was going on.

If anyone is still interested, I just finished all of chapter 7 of the personal story. I’m no expert on how this used to be since I only did it once before and am hazy on the details back then. But this is how the chapters fall now for a character created after the patch:

1) Forging the Pact.
2) The Battle of Fort Trinity.
3) Against the corruption (you are airlifted to Orr from Fort Trinity, so no requirement to explore your way there on your own).
4) Cathedral of Silence (my choice, there was another option open involving a Norn mapmaker or something. Again, you are airlifted to Orr from Fort Trinity).
5) The Source of Orr (Airlifted again. This section of the chapter concludes when you are told to regroup with Trahearne at Fort Trinity. Here you have to talk to Sayeh al’Rayihd, who greets you with “We meet again”, though you haven’t met her before, so something is clearly still off).

End of chapter 7. Hopes this helps, if there are any questions I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.

Please, can people please stop using this phrase? I get it, you are annoyed that people are criticizing aspects of the game that you really like or even love. And they can be really rude when they do it. But they have their reasons for being critical, just as you have your reasons for being defensive.

I know you will go there: Yes, some people still complain eons after they have stopped playing. You wonder why they still bother. I stopped playing myself for a while because I got bored, but I never lost interest in GW2. And now I am back, because I found new reasons to play and enjoy the game.

There is only one good answer to the question/statement: “Maybe GW2 is not the game for you.”

Yes it is, because I am still here.

Should Legendary require multiple game modes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cassandra Nea.2507

Cassandra Nea.2507

Off to top of my head: Ideally, legendaries “should” require an effort in every single part of the game, from levelling to personal story to living world to WvW – all of it should be an element. In practice however…as long as you can buy a legendary off the TP with no effort of your own except waving your credit card…I don’t really see the point.

(Has no legendary and wouldn’t want to buy a finished one).

A Lesson I Learned from Editing

Cassandra Nea.2507

I get a feeling Vayne works for ArenaNet anyways.

This is actually unfair. I have plenty of problems with the direction of the game development itself, but from reading these forums I have come to realize that Vayne is actually NOT a white knight. It seems like he just takes offense to some of the hyperbole being spread around, and I don’t blame him.

In recent days there have been plenty of examples of people spreading misinformation about the patch and the changes to the levelling experience. Some of them openly admit that they haven’t tested these changes themselves – they are simply against them on principle and based on WHAT THEY HAVE HEARD from others.

This is not helpful in any way. We have legitimate reasons for complaining about parts of the feature patch, but that legitimacy goes out the window once people stop sticking to the facts. By using hyperbole, exaggerations and outright lies you are simply giving Anet reasons to not pay attention to us.

And if you really want to talk about white knights, I know a few that qualify more than Vayne: LordKrall is one (though he seems to be posting less lately) and so is Dusty Moon, who can be really detrimental to any kind of discussion because he gets downright mean in his replies to other people.

I would be personally very unhappy if the amount of Guilds a player could belong to was reduced to only two.

Ideas that add to the game are great…ideas that remove what we already enjoy? Not so great. As evidenced by the player-base reaction to the latest Feature Patch.

Yep that seems to be the resounding feedback about reduction in guild occupancy. Alliances can exist outside of that though.

Chris

Indeed. Alliances would be adding something to the game, and I’m sure they would make many players pleased. Especially, Alliance chat. =)

Not sure about the logistics of Influence, Bonuses, Buffs, or anything else. What I mean is would people be asking for such things? Would several smaller Guilds want to pool their resources in such a way as to be able to, then, participate in content only the larger Guilds are able to now?

It might require some thought.

I think small guilds would Ally . WvW guilds would. And potentially for PVE content to with larger guilds. And WvW alliances with pve guilds. I have been adopted by a WvW Zerg Smashing guild called Helioz on TC and they wanted to ally with a PVE guild to do the content.

Depends on how progression is distributed and the communication channels etc.

Chris

I might be a little late to this part of the conversation but I’d be all for this. I’m in a tiny guild (2.5 people!) and very hesitant to join a large one, though I have a slot reserved for just in case. Anything that would allow family guilds and small groups of mates to get together and get things done would be wonderful.

This is one of the main reasons i like the idea.

Chris

I can’t stress enough how much I am in support of this too. We have 4 active members in my current family-based guild, and though we have managed to do one Bounty training mission, all the “real” guild missions are way beyond us. I know I could just join a bigger guild, but I really don’t have that urge – on the other hand it would be amazing to be able to do these activites in an alliance.

For communication I much prefer ingame chat since I tend to have people around me when I play, and said people tend to get highly annoyed if I am on voice chat.

Note: If I am invited to the guild I may not jump into dungeons right away but prefer to see if I can get to know people a little bit first. In the past I’ve had some experiences with pugs that have ended with people swearing and yelling at each other with the result that at this point I tend to freeze up completely if a run starts to devolve in that direction. This is part of why I would like to join – to learn in a friendly, non-hostile atmosphere – and I hope that is okay.

I hope the fix Anet is planning is simply to change the timer for failing the event. I’ve been running this chain for the past couple of weeks and I honestly didn’t think people could be so shortsighted as to decide it is better to fail it than complete it. It’s 20 frigging minutes between completed events, you can either go farm some other champs during that time or empty out your bags.

But there ya go, just ran the chain a while ago and the commanders were telling people to leave the last shaman alive, just to restart the whole thing 15 minutes earlier…

For me, that special sense of acheivement in having discovered and made my way to a remote, hard-to-find location could be rewarded by something as simple as a “postcard” that you discover once you get there. Maybe a visually appealing picture of the area that you can then access from a tab in your personal story panel.
I doubt this would cause an uproar of protest from the people who don’t take pleasure in exploring just for the sake of it.

I was just wondering, is there a trick to getting into LA on your main server? Obviously it doesn’t matter if you are on main or overflow on one of the adjoining maps, and so far I’ve had no luck at all getting into LA main. Is it simply a question of how fast the LA map loads for you? Or is there some other way to increase your chances? I’m not asking for a “cheat” or any kind of exploit here, it would just be nice to try the escape from LA on a non-overflow server some time.

I’m looking forward to this update. It should be suitably climactic.

That said, I HIGHLY doubt LA will be destroyed and gone for good. This will likely only be a “temporary destruction”, after which it resumes its former role as the hub city of GW2, but with changes and new layouts to represent what has gone by.

Also, whoever came up with the “By Ogden’s Hammer, MY SAVINGS!” line needs to be hired by ANet immediately. XD

And seeing Evon running away from the BLTC building as it burns down was hilarious. Run, you fat cat!

I agree – in the trailer, the catchphrase for this patch is “the siege begins”. What usually happens when an enemy has your city under siege is that you gather all your forces and do whatever is in your power to lift the siege.
I think this is what will be the focus of this patch, then in the next one we show Scarlet the door (and she gets killed maybe/maybe not) and then after that the work of rebuilding LA to its former glory will begin. That last part possibly tying into the beginning of the next season of the living story.

Does that mean I think the armour shouldn’t be in game? Not in the least, seeing others wearing it doesn’t bother me at all – at most it gives me an opportunity to stick my nose in the air and feel superior because I have standards – sticks said nose in the air and wrinkles it delicately

Weird I know…but I won’t be buying a precursor off the TP so unless I get it as a drop or from the forge, I won’t get a legendary.
