Be sure you haven’t changed game voice translation to a language that doesn’t support it (for instance, Spanish). I think I had the same problem and I fixed it changing the voice translation to English
I was in a Fractal 49 with some guys when the one who had the hammer got disconected, so it dissapeared and we weren’t able to recover it although we commited several mass suicides.
This is the fourth time I must exit from fractals in the last month due to this: Once, a guy dropped with a hammer; twice, I did it due to changing my engineer skills while holding it. Today, a guy got DC and the hammer travelled through The Mists to who-knows-where
Are you going to address this bug someday and fix it?? Fix it, remove Cliffside while you do it…I don’t know. But please, so something. It’s very very annoying being affected by a recurring bug.
I’ve bought an unbreakable choir bell and, after using it a few times, I noticed something wrong on it. Finally I’ve found it: my unbreakable choir bell’s first not is a Re instead a Do. My flute is right, btw :/
- guild events: Cooperative events with nice rewards (guild commendations and a chance to get an ascended item)
- guild bonus: +10% MF, +15% karma, +10% gathering…
- guild vault
You need a guild to enjoy these things
Finally, I’ve used some gems to get my sword. It fits perfectly my warrior
Thank you for the contest, the prizes and for liking my warrior, seriously
Here is mine, an asian-mushroom-themed warrior sylvari with a red-black snake suit.
- Armor (visible): all draconic (except boots, which are heritage) with a sclerite karka shell
- Weapon: Impaler as a underwater weapon (spear)
- Colours: midnight yew, strawberry and midnight rust

Signed, too. I have some minis, coins and items and I like this minigame so much
No Mounts. Except Dolyaks. With a -50% speed penalty.
This morning I did Arah’s quests and Angaria’s quest was bug: No risen attacked us.
I’m from Baruch Bay, although with the new kittyserver I don’t know if this is relevant now
Remove schedules and give random times to every boss. That’s how you get a “living world”.
Wait, but… although my clothes are now infinite tonics, my hats are consumables. Am I going to lose my hats after one use??
They will be consumed and applied to the current item you apply the look to. And added to you’r wardrobe for future changes at a cost of 1 charge I believe.
You are right! Tyvm, now I can use my hats on combat, that’s nice ^^
Wait, but… although my clothes are now infinite tonics, my hats are consumables. Am I going to lose my hats after one use??
OH ty, I was looking for a regular trader… nevermind, tyvm all
I had three hats: Witch’kitten, clebration hat and another hat that could be obtained by doing some event at Ascalon.
How can I use them now? And how can I recover my celebration hat, because I cannot access to my town cloth profile?
EDIT: I cannot find that merchant :S
tyvm
Hmmm that’s true… meh, I preferred swaping stats than this
:S In that case I don’t see any advantage, it seems tedious and ineffective as long as you have several different characters (a heavy armor set would be only usable for 2 of my eight characters)… that’s why I am asking
I have a Zojja’s set in my ranger, if I ever want to main my thief I’ll be able to change my set to him with only a couple bank visit, currently I would need to craft a 2nd set of asc armor.
I also have sets of asc trinkets I used in an old ranger build, and currently I could use on my ele, currently those asc trinkets are stuck in my ranger inventory, after the update I’ll be able to transfer them to my ele.
Besides all that, I have frostfang on my ranger, now I’ll be able to also use it on my necro and warrior (not only the skin, the weapon itself) .
I have 8 characters… before this, I needed 8 ascended gear sets, several ascended weapons and several ascended trinkets. Now I might play with
- less than one weapon of each (two if I cannot clone them)
- very few trinkets
but… what about armors? I need light, medium and heavy set. And I need – at least – 2 stats for each (berserker and something else, for example). So I would need 6 ascended armor sets and I would be forced to go to bank everytime I swapped my character, unless the system is more convenient that it seems. That’s why I’m asking
:S In that case I don’t see any advantage, it seems tedious and ineffective as long as you have several different characters (a heavy armor set would be only usable for 2 of my eight characters)… that’s why I am asking
I’m really interested in knowing how this change in ascended items will work. Once I get one ascended… will I be able to clone it among my characters or will I have only one item for using among all of them?
I was waiting for stat swapping in today’s update, but if this change offers a good gameplay I might return to the game too
If it is swapable stats or account wide gear, I’m in again
What did you expect, people, in a scenario where top tier armors cost a huge amount of materials and balance patches are programmed every two months?
The only real solution to this is to let us, players, to change ascended gear stats as we can change legendary weapons. This, or “enjoying” game as it is.
I won’t be coming back until they remove the statistical bonus from Ascended gear outside of Fractals.
This gear should have stats identical to Exotic in WvW & PvE.
This. I’m in the same boat, the main update this game needs is to get a real horizontal progression.
I feel the same. And no, taking a break doesn’t help. Furthermore, the longer is the break, the less I want to play the game because I’m losing the Living Story.
Grind
AltsI group these together because I think they have some relation. Grind well I think grind is a kittene to fully describe because it really comes down to each person own personal feeling of I can only do x action so many times before its fun faction goes down and thus starts to feel grinding. For some this can be do something twice others 100 times, our goal with how to keep grind out of the game is the relation between time based and skill based gating. I think this is an area we are always trying to get a better sense on as we start to make things harder to add more challenge to the game sometimes we cross the time gate and skill gate too much and things feel more grindy then we intend. As for alts why I lump these up is I think often leveling up alts can feel grindy, our goals here are really about how we make things feel a little less grinding for some actions and we’ve been making a lot of steps with that combing WvW xp, adding tradable level up books, birthday gifts that level you up ect..I think we are not done with the initiative to progressing alts being a bit more smooth and it’s something we will keep working on as we move forward.
As a player with 8 characters, my problem is not leveling up my characters. My problem is gearing them when they reach top level.
Leveling is fun and it’s well done: you can raise your character doing a lot of things (events, hearths, crafting, WvW…) and, at the same time, you learn the techniques for playing it properly and for adapting him to your personal tastes.
But, when you reach lvl 80, you must equip him. And here comes the punishment: ascended gear is too expensive to equip every character if you have more than… ¿two?. And it gets worse if you want to change your build someday (After playing some months, I changed my necro from condition to power, my mesmer from staff to mastersword and my engineer from power to condition. I did that with exotics, but now, with ascended, i wouldn’t be able)
So, when you reach lvl 80, due to the amount of gold you need, you are forced to know what build are you going to use. Forever.
If you equip your characters using guides it’s possible (but I found it boring, because you transform a game in a mechanical math-fest), but not if you play using a trial-error method, exploring all the possibilities. And it gets worse if you receive XP scrolls, because you get lvl 80 so fast that you cannot learn about your character before you invest your gold on him.
So, in a few words, I don’t think leveling is a problem because you can play without too much penalty and you can enjoy your leveling in a lot of ways. The main problem is when you are at lvl 80 and your only option for gearing up is to fill an endless laundry list.
P.S.: Sorry for my english, it’s non native
P.S.2.: I have 13 XP scrolls from birthdays, I’ve never used them (by the way, I received some gifts twice. I should have only 8 )
(edited by Cassius.4831)
In my opinion, there are two types of hardcore players:
A) The one who want to go deeper in the game: making alts, trying builds constantly in order to approach a new level of optimization, exploring each zone of land (even the hidden ones, as the room of faces in Queensdale), because “if it’s there, you want to enjoy it”
B) The one who only make one character, repeat ad nauseam the same things (farm—>mine—>farm—>championtrain—>CoFp1OnLyZeRkNoN00bS—> mine—>farm), get the BiS for a berserker and don’t enjoy the game in its fullness because his goal isn’t the game itself, it’s only a path to get a high rank amongst other people like him.
I am in group A, and ascended items cut me tho opportunity of enjoying alts and builds even if I play 7-8 hours at a day or even more (AS I DID). I thought this game was for us (as it was advertised), but definitely arenanet betrayed us and gave this game to the people in the second group
So… I don’t care if ascended are needed, I don’t care if they are a long-term goal, I don’t care if they wanted to implement them before the realease (even in the case they lied to us, then)
I only want to enjoy this game and ascended items stops me for going deeper.
Ok, that’s true, GW1 had a bit grind in some skills: having a maxed LB title was very useful for doing DoA, having maxed Norn title was very useful for playing UrsanWay… but, you know what??
When I played GW1, even with that skill grind (only for PvE skills that you were able to use in a very restricted way – not more than three at the same time and only for PvE -), I was able to change my build as many times I wanted, because:
- Those skills were almost perfect at mid level, and that level was easy to reach
- There were a lot of skills, even a secondary profession, so you could try a lot of builds, some of them as good as the ones who required PvE skills
- Gear was very easy to acquire, and mods were so cheap that you could play with new stats everyday and you still won gold if you played properly.
Due to this, GW1 is by far much better than GW2: more enjoyable, more alt-friendly and more build diversity-friendly
Few people is happy with ascended, a vast majority is against them and anyone can notice it looking for the top voted comments here or in any forum. But Arenanet doesn’t care about this topic, because ascended = people grinding = profit.
If not, why did they tell us about being collaborative, promoting chats amongst devs and players, etc… but for every topic except this?
Polymock? Bar Brawl? an end-game only visual-grind based? Where are all the promises they made to us before release? They have been fooling us all this time, changing fun for boring chores. This is not the game I was advertised and I will never get tired of say it.
Return to the original manifesto. Remove ascended, vertical progression and grind for gear.
I’d return to play and I’d leave lurking here, at least
1 character —> 1 game styles
8 characters --> 8 game styles
As simple as that. It is not about mining (1-2 hours mining orichalc and ancient wood? when will I play?) nor farming. It is about going deep in the gameplay
I would love to see ascended gear changed in the following way:
1. Same stats as exotic, only difference is they have two upgrade slots (one for infusions, one for runes).
2. Defensive and offensive infusions removed from the game (materials / tokens refunded).
3. Idiotic number-grind mechanic (agony) removed from the game.
4. New infusions introduced that simply add a visual effect to the weapon or armour they are placed on (ex., fire / lightning / poison / smoke / frost / blood / etc.)
OMG, this is the coolest idea I’ve ever seen in order to change ascended items. I love point 4
About the topic, if ascended items were removed (or tweaked in a non-grind way) some of us would return to the game. I’m still waiting for arena.net so they explain clearly how ascended gear is going to work once armor is released
[…]
So my question to those who say it’s not alt-friendly is: why there is a rush? If you have 8 characters, it would take about 1-2 years for you to equip them all. Just play normally, farm here and there a bit at a time.
[…]
TL;DR No it is not alt-friendly but you already have the benefits of having 8 alts. Just need patience and play along. Don’t worry about getting them ALL NOW.
1-2 years? seriously? My life is not enough sad to create a 2 years schedule for a game and work on it. I hope you are joking.
BTW, please tell me the benefits of having 8 alts, besides mining quartz or taking some chest (anyway, usually nothing valuable in them)
ezd.6359I have rare materials like cotton etc. And money for everything else. It is stupid to store 16k mithril ores while i can buy it anytime.
So you don’t have them.
ezd.6359I just wanted to say – MMO is not SIMS or other barby like game. Even when they make ascended gear more obtainable, someone will make 1000 alts and start to cry “omg i can’t gear all of them, give all items for free QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ”.
Apparently, people who make 8 and more characters, don’t play all of them, they just want to dress and undress them… don’t tell them (it is a top secret), but they don’t need all of them be full dressed. Or they will lose all motivation to play GW2 as a barby like game. When this happens, they just go to characters screen and make new characters. So it does not matter how many alts they have, they will do it all time. For “normal” people (who actually play their characters) ascended items are accessible. Just not in the moment new patch hits servers.
Quip on engineer, Bolt on mesmer, others with full (except some trinkets) 80 exotics. I think I had at least +200 hours in engi, mesmer and necromancer (in each of them), and a lot amongst every character. Every profession “maxed” at 400. About 9.5K AP in September(when I left the game)
Do you think I’m a casual player?
StarsMaybe not all. Here are the pics. Note almost all of the mats are refined, which means x2 or x3 or x4 for the original scrap depending on the type.
You have won, sir :P
CalaeTo gear 8 characters to maximum would take you more time than it would take the developers to introduce another tier after ascended. Which is probably the point.
That is. It would be nice to see an answer from dev team btw, but since two days have passes I’ve lost my hope
LanfearShadowFlameAs to this game being alt-unfriendly…. Go play GW1. Go play WoW. Then kitten about ‘alt unfriendly.’ This game functions no differently then essentially any other MMO in these regards.
I haven’t played WoW, but as a former GW1 player with GWAMM title, 50/50 HoMM and 7 lvl 20 full equipped characters (I had all but warrior), I can assure you that GW1 is a lot more alt-friendly than GW2
Here is some rough calculation to equip an entire account with ascended armor and weapons for 8 characters. Note that it is estimated but you’ll need roughly about that amount of materials:
Mithril ores: 16,000
Elder log: 12,500
Iron ores: 14,250
Platinum ores: 6,500
Softwood log: 6,750
Seasoned wood log: 2,500
Hard wood log: 5,000
Silk scrap: 16,500
Thick leather section: 10,750
Wool scrap: 4,500
Cotton scrap: 2,250
Linen scrap: 4,500
Thin leather section: 3,000
Coarse leather section: 1,500
Rugged leather section 3,000Obsidian shards: 30 per weapon / pieces of armor. 2 weapons + 6 armor pieces = 30 × 8 = 240 shards. 2100 karma per shards, 8 characters = 240 × 8 × 2100 = 4,032,000 karma
10 Crystalline dust per inscription / insignias, 8 × 10 = 80 dust per char, 8 char means 640 piles of crystalline dust
About 10 glob of ectoplasm per pieces, so about 640 Glob of ectoplasms
About 300 Theormocatalytic Reagent per piece: 8 pieces = 2400 per char, 8 char = 19,200 Theormocatalytic reagents. Each one cost 149.6 coppers. So total cost for reagents alone is about 287,23,20 coppers or 287g 23s 20c.
Each piece also cost 20 skill points. 8 × 20 = 160 spare skill points per character
I have all these materials. Oops, i have two high level characters only…
Yes. It is alt-friendly.
Hahaha, all of them? you know the rules…. “#32 – Pics or it didn’t happen”
This is my question, very simple, very plain, too understandable for being ignored.
You, devs, say that you want more interaction with us, players. Well, then I’d like to know the answer to this question in order to know what I should do. Ascended gear is comming. I have 8 characters and I’d like to return to the game and to create more characters when more races or professions are released. But if ascended gear is as alt-unfriendly as weapons, I’m out.
So… will ascended gear be alt-friendly?
Thank you for reading.
If you want to create some diversity in builds:
1.- make BiS gear easier and cheaper to get
2.- remove (or fix, or whatever) soulbound items
Because if I spend all my gold getting a new gear, hardly I’ll be able to try another build until some weeks later (and this is worse if you have alts).
Actually, balance patches are a punishment because of the difficulty of obtaining alt gear
So, in short words: 1st balance gear, 2nd balance skills
1.- Ascended items (stat progression vs fashion/visual items)
2.- Alt-unfriendliness (soulbound rewards and items)
I don’t have a third one. Every other aspect in the gameplay is ok for me.
Josh, I appreciate your job in GW2, at least the things I know you have designed (SAB, tower clock), that’s why I’m logging in order to reply your post.
I agree with you in almost every point: Programming something like this game isn’t easy, a very good coordination is needed for working and, obviously, we cannot complain about lack of content because there’s a lot.
But
4. Please stop calling us liars when we fail to implement something we intended to months ago, but for some technical, balance, or other reason found it to be untenable.
Some of us bought this game because we were promised that there would be horizontal progression. That “once we got max level, we would have max gear and we would be only playing for visual rewards and fun”.
But ANET implemented the ascended items, and shattered the manifesto into dust.
That wasn’t a failed implementation, it was something that some of us didn’t expected and got. Something that perhaps some people were looking for, but that was clearly against the original concept which some of us believed in.
Some of us aren’t moaning because we feel “the real players” are us, but because we feel cheated. And that’s why I don’t trust in most of the dev team members, because some things are being implemented although there are a lot of posts with a “star thumb” against it, remembering the original idea of GW2, and they have been systematically ignored all this time.
On the other hand, it isn’t easy for all of us to develop our thoughts because our english isn’t native. That’s why sometimes we cannot write everything we want in the way we feel.
I would like to play to this game a bit more (I’m not sure how much I’ve played, but since I was near 10k AP, I think that was more than 1k hours), but a couple of days ago I uninstalled it after leaving to play 3 weeks before, because of the frustration I felt with the new ascended weapons.
I agree with you 100%, OP. When I purchased this game (April 2012, I think), I tried to bring some friends to here, explained them that GW2 wan’t “another MMO”. One of them told me: “It will be, as every kittening MMO. You’ll see it”.
Nowadays, I can only agree with him. The original concept has been corrupted and the manifesto is a big laugh. The ones I’d trusted (devs) were lying, so I finally left the game 2 weeks ago. I read this forums once or twice a week, with the hope that vertical progression is fixed (account bound ascended items or something like that), but only that. I’m playing other games, market is plenty of new games everyday.
tl;dr: I’ve logged in order to vote you four times, a former player since Sept 13th
Um ascended are account bound now. Even the weapons.
Account bound on acquire, but soulbound on use

Stop to be idiots and craft the combo stats ascended you need and if you want switch feature craft legendary, period.
[…]
All crafting system would be also BROKEN.
Two things:
1.- Crafting system was broken before Sept 3rd (with items being cheaper purchased instead of crafted) and after (with insane grind needed in order to develop it)
2.- I’ve reported you because I’m tired of people insulting in the forums
stop crying if you want to be able to change stats make a legendary……if you don’t want to put in the extra time/gold make the ascended weapons that fits your built.
I have two, Quip in my engineer and Bolt in my mesmer. How many do you have? So we can know how many are needed in order to express our opinion freely.
You can express your opinions, no one is stopping you, but it doesn’t mean you aren’t crying. Let me give you an example: its like the guy/girl who works at starbucks complaining how its unfair that the people he/she serve make $XX.XX and they only make $X.XX No one is stopping he/she from going to school etc. or even working harder to find a better paying job.
Oh and I have zero legendarys (working towards my first one).
Well, since I have 2 legendaries and you have none, I can humbly assume that I know more about the process of farming/making/using them than you and that you are crying and not me
Well I have 4 (well 5 or 6 depending on how you want to count Eternity), whats your point…
My point is that everyone should be able to express freely his opinion with respect , what’s yours?
Despite this, my thoughts about legendaries and ascended are expressed above and you are free to read them. Once you do that, feel free to ask any doubt you could have. I’ll be glad to answer any question.
I applaud your statement, just dont see your logic… You asking how many legendaries are needed and then since you have two and the other has none you make assumptions and claim your opinion is worth more?
The original question just made your posts silly in my view and if I misunderstood your intent then I apologize but you need to spell it out… this is an online forum after all…
Ok, I’ll try to explain better mi position: Legendary weapons were intended as fashion items, only for visual exhibition. Until Sept 3rd they worked in this way and I think it was fine for everybody: some of us gathered materials to do them and none of us complained about this (You have crafted 5 legendaries, so I can assume you crafted some of them before and you agreed the way they were working, can I? )
Now, game rules has changed and Legendary weapons are a new top tier: not only ascended, they are even better because you can change their stats. Of course I like this change, because gives us – legendary weapon users – more diversity, but… why not the same with ascended weapons? They are expensive too (not as a legendary, but you must farm several hours yo get one with fixed stats).
And, what we get when we suggest that ascended should be as good as legendaries? Well, we get posts from some users telling us that we are whiniers and that we should work for legendaries instead of crying in the forum. This is pretty annoying, but it becomes ironic when you have them and this is told you by someone who hasn’t forged one yet.
So, in other words: everyone should be free to express his opinion but with respect. If anyone don’t do it in this way, he is exposed to be treated as he does.
stop crying if you want to be able to change stats make a legendary……if you don’t want to put in the extra time/gold make the ascended weapons that fits your built.

So what’s the point of Legendary, then? You want stat changing, you know where to find it.
Who knows, perhaps being a visual item, as it was intended and was until sept 3rd?
Please people, gather information before talking about a topic.
Speaking of diatribe, why no tldr?
I’ll help.
TLDR: The OP knows how to fix the game after being gone for 7 months. Most everyone else on the forums are idiots with bad suggestions. ANet needs to do what the OP says instead of making changes based on the idiot’s feedback.
It’s funny because OP is a random poster too. Irony hits hard sometimes, I suppose
They are not going to do this because of the way they implemented them (each weapon need different materials, and even drops are given with fixed stats). Hence, changing this implies accepting this implementation has been a fail and devs aren’t going to accept this. Ever.
Anyway, I agree with OP. If we were able to change the stats of ascended items, the grind would be worth enough to do it
Only one question: How can be matched a balance skill with the insane amount of time required to update the ascended gear to this new meta?
In other words: once this balance patch is out, will be players be able to update their builds before the next one?
Who cares? Ascended items are made for those people who are only looking for raise their stats, not improving their builds. People who were really interested in playing with builds and alts have been progressively leaving this game since 15th Nov and specially now with ascended weapons (and ascended armor coming).
If they were interested in offer us build variety, gear would be cheaper and diversity would be greater. But it’s just the opposite
As an owner of two legendaries, I fully support this idea. It would encourage farming through the reward of obtaining any build at any moment: diversity. Furthermore, I’d accept to pay a small fee for changing those stats, like we can do now with traits.
Something like this will be enough for me for not leaving this game when I finishes SAB TM.
