“Guild wars is for everybody, freedom is ascended, zerg is strength”
~ G. Orrwell, great shaman of the new flame legion, 1984 AE.
Used to mine all metals. Unlimited use.
If it would only work as high as Orichcalcum they would have said “Used to mine Orichalcum and lower” or something like that.
But quartz isn’t a metal
It would be great if quartz were per character instead per account, BUT only avalaible for those characters who has finished his personal story. This would make quartz a not-common material and would encourage people to do his story (nowadays the reward is… unrewarding)
No.
I left the game when ascended rings arrived (although returned 2 months later with laurels) and I’ll do it again if I’m forced to change the gear of all my seven lvl 80 characters.
I’m just genuinely curious what you do on your seven level 80 toons if they are all fully geared out?
- WvW (ninja, although I usually finish defending something and joining a zerg)
- Living Stories (dungeons, puzzles, achievements)
- Achievements (I would like to finish dive master or dungeon master, for instance)
- Standard dungeons (sometimes for special rewards, sometimes for fun with guildies)
- Fractals (I need tokens and more ascended/infused rings – only some of my characters have them nowadays -)
- PvE events and farming (I have a legendary, but… well, I would like to have more)
- sPvP (a little, but if I’m bored of all the other things… I go there)… and, finally, leveling my Warrior (lvl49 yet
)
I usually play with my engineer, but since each character has diferrent gameplay styles, sometimes I switch to another to avoid get bored.
I love doing all those things too, but I’ve never had a problem doing them with just exotics, or even rares (sometimes I’m too lazy to buy exotic trinkets). Do you really find ascended gear necessary to do these things? And if not, why quit the game because of their existence?
Probably WvW power creep will force him to upgrade ALL that gear across all his chars, when he starts to notice other people’s full ascended is giving them an annoying edge, forcing him to pick one char only to focus the annoying grind, which will suck for him cause he’s losing variety in gameplay.
Even if someone has only one or two chars. What about multiple gear that compliment multiple builds? Effin nightmare. So effectively, he’ll have a WORSE game than before. Limited in effective builds and gameplay variety, more visibly in WvW.
At some point he’ll get kitten ed and leave the game for good.
Good guess?
Yes, good guess
For me, upgrading my gear is a mere mean to reach my goal: enjoy the game. I only find getting better gear fun the first time – same with leveling -. After that, it turns predictible and tedious and I only want to do it as soon as possible so I can explore the possibilities of my character.
Main issue: bugs. Some skills have been properly fixed severals months after release, so we cannot expect skill rotation working fine.
By the way, I would like some kind of skill hunting (as in GW1) and better racial skills ^^

Mine is something like this:
Where #9 can be changed by “Elixir S” or “throw Mine” if needed.
My build is based on removing conditions heavily (you remove one when you use an elixir) combined with evasive skills. Direct damage is fair (although not very good), but you can escape from enemies at the same time you are applying them a bunch of conditions.
Gear isn’t the best, but I’m lazy to try other pieces because I’m fine with the ones I’m wearing now
Autokadd, from the College of Dynamics of Rata Sum
This dungeons is not hard, in fact mobs are very easy if you compare them with other dungeons. BUT is somehow bad-designed. Not in gameplay, but in social interaction, I mean: I’ve tried this dungeon several times and almost everytime my team is killed at Frizz. I think this zone is challenging, but when you usually are the last alive and you know you must die in order to repeat it (and possibly, die again) you feel punished for something you have done right. If I could get out of the room without being killed (or disconnecting) it would be fairer imho. But I cannot, so I leave the team after 3-4 attempts after losing an hour and some coins.
It’s difficult to find a good team for that zone (even with known people, because is challenging) in order to play it at any time. PUGs here aren’t a valid option unless you want to waste your time and your gold.
Here is mine…
…
… dolyak or marmox?
You should wait until it can be done without major bugs (nowadays you can get stuck just before the final bosses if Kiel becomes bugged)
Because this dungeon IS bugged.
We were stuck there before, we solved it when we found an asura panel near the bridges and we desactivated it. But…
We are now stuck in the door before the final boss. We have killed all the mobs, but Ellen Kiel doesn’t open it so we can’t continue.
Is it a bug or are we doing something wrong?
After trading almost 750 pieces of food (~1500 clicks) this morning, I feel I’m one step closer to my carpal tunnel syndrome achievement
No, because even when the box doesn’t spawn the “Wooden Chest” text still does.
Hold down your “Show Enemy Names” key to show the text to see if any may be laying around.
But regular drops don’t trigger a Wooden Chest. Even profitable items like T6 materials (some of them more expensive than yellow items) don’t drop it. So you must wait for the corpse if you want to get your reward
Yes, I think it does. It’s very common while doing Arah’s chain of events: after I kill a huge amount of enemies,I can still hear corpses dropping for a some seconds. I’m pretty sure that you can’t grab its loot until they finally appear.
I’ve opened about 30 crates since 14th. I got:
- 1 mini Kasmeer
- 1 mystic forge
- 1 craft station
- shells, flowers and fruits
Come on… I’ve been farming a lot to get one ticket and I get no real reward. Before this patch I usually enjoy events, nowadays I spend all my time grinding (at first, because I liked the skin. Now, because I want my ticket).
That’s not fair, you (anet) are promoting an antisocial gameplay with this (I try to find zones with zero or few farmers). This is a MMO, special rewards should be associated with group playing as event chains or dungeons. Or something like the backpack but harder.
But… what’s the point of sending us to farm zones in order to grind special crates that almost never drop anything useful?
P.S.: Sorry for my english, it isn’t my native language
I’m sorry to hear about your loss, but this is a tough lesson to learn. I had to learn it on other MMO’s. How many rares were stolen? I’d like to donate a couple or some gold if it would help.
Thanks for your offer, but it’s not needed! We can fix it, as I said it wasn’t a very good Guild Stash (rares were low level items)
But thank you anyway
Thanks for all the answers. Fortunately, as I said, Guild Stash wasn’t filled with expensive items (Almost all of them were yellow items for low level players. Other items were saved in the second stash – only allowed to leaders, of course -)
I wasn’t sure about reporting it, but the fact that it could help another guild is enough for me.
Steal? if said person had access they didn’t “steal” anything, they have access meaning they are aloud to take it and that’s what happened, morally they shouldn’t have but this is the internet, it will happen
Well, that’s an interesting point of view. Have you ever tried to “get” an apple from a grocery? They are… there, for us :P
A player has stolen every item in our guild stash and he has left our guild after that. Is there anything we can do to recover all our stash?
It wasn’t a very good stash (yellow 40-45 lvl items primarily), but it was our resource for new guild members.
On the other hand, I think guild should be allowed to control the number of items each player can get each day.
P.S.: Of course, although I know his name, I’m not going to put it here.
P.S.: Sorry for my english.
+1
Tower Clock and SAB are epic. And I think they are epic because you don’t expect a big reward from them, unlike in other zones (*cough*ascendeditems*cough*). You simply play them because they are fun.
Because of expecting these things I purchased GW2, thanks.
It would be nice if we could have a top scores chart as an extra incentive.
This chart could show a score based on baubbles, enemies killed and time spent. Something like this:
Name —- Completion — Score
--——————————————————-
Moto . . . . . .100% . . . . . . 2938
Shinies! . . . 100% . . . . . . 2545
Logan . . . . . . 98% . . . . . . 3010
(Completion would be based on baubbles, as the current achievement)
We could have 2 charts: one for solo-player and another for team player (in that case, guild could be displayed in the chart. Something like Challenge Missions in GW1 —> http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Challenge_mission )
Of course, this would implie that SAB would be permanent
I think SAB should be permanent. Here are my reasons:
- It allows us to disconnect from the game without a real log off.
- It doesn’t imbalance anything. No gear is needed, No stats are need, we are only rewarded with baubles and skins (obsidians and philosopher stones? meh, they are cheap anyway).
- It moves people to Rata Sum. Before SAB, Rata Sum was a desert.
- It is compatible with lore (an Asura did it!).
- It is inmersive: You are playing with a character tht… is playing!
- It is fun.
So they are indistinguishable besides that, am I right? O_o
Thanks. I’ve sold it, then
I’ve found a rare super shield skin, but I don’t notice any difference when I compare it with the masterwork one that Moto offers in Rata Sum.
Is there any difference? Or are they the same skin?
Completely neglecting an entire class for this content is inexcusable, regardless of the reason.
What?? This minigame is awesome, it’s free and I’m still finding all the secret places. I was looking for two guns for my engineer, but really I don’t care about this because I’m enjoying SAB a lot.
P.S.: Very very good job ANET.
This minigame isn’t good. This minigame is… epic!!!
Really, I like it a lot. Because of things like this, I bought GW2. Not ascended, this! It’s pure fun.
Best trailer ever, too.
EDIT: permanent +1!
Last night, I purchased a piece of light armor from the karma vendor in Grenth’s temple, for my thief, instead a medium one.
I know it’s impossible to get a refund, but I want to make a complaint about the fact that I’ve spent 42K karma in the most useless way:
- the piece is soulbound, so I cannot transfer it to another character
- the piece cannot be salvaged
So, my question is: If 2/3 of the pieces of armor that karma vendors are selling are completely useless for our characters… why are they shown?
Please, show for each character only the adequate armor set or, at least, make the other sets account bound. Or let us salvage them. Or something. I can only destroy my acquisition, now, and it’s frustrating.
Aw… the I’ll salvage the new one, thanks again :S
When you finish a dungeon in story mode, you get a rare hat. Can it be used in any way? I mean, besides salvaging and using it.
Thanks
FotM has a very well-designed and lovely environment, but is a grinding method for ascended items, besides that GW2 has the most painful LFG system I’ve ever suffered during the last five years.
aw ok, lot of thanks for the answer
What does it happen if I put a jewel on an Ancient Karka Shell? I mean, AKS is account bound, but I’m afraid it turns soulbound after putting a jewel
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ancient_Karka_Shell
Thanks
I had +500 hours of gameplay. Now, I’ve quitted 2 weeks ago because of they new content and gameplay added in The Lost Shore.
I don’t like grinding and, in addition, GW2 has the most boring treadmill scheme I’ve ever seen. So I’m out, I’m ok with only aspect-grindind, but not with stats-grindind that doesn’t allow me to develop my characters with fun.
It’s a pity, because I liked this game a lot until this patch.
1. When did you begin playing? (post bw’s)
25th August (pre-launch)
2. how many hours total do you have? (/age)
ehm… more than 400. Perhaps more than 500. Perhaps… (shameshameshame…)
3. What’s your most gold banked so far?
about 30g
4. Do you have a max level character (s)? (number if more than one)
Yes, 2
5. List 1-3 areas / zones / events / tp; where you spend most of your time for income.
I didn’t play for income (that’s why I “only” had 30g )
6. Do you mainly use MF or not?
Only consumables, but not gear.
7. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a mob? If so, how many and total?
Never (Can it happen? :P)
8. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a chest? If so, how many and total?
About a half dozen, from FotM chests, and two more from Ancient Karka’s event. So 8. I’ve never had a drop in a temple, or from a dragon or… anywhere else, if I am right
9. What’s the most number of rare weapons you have looted in one day or 8hrs time?
6-7 in FotM. Out of there, I think about 2-3
10. How many rare or exotic weapons do you “expect” to loot in one hour of time?
In FotM, 2 rares and half exotic. Out of there, half rare and zero exotics
11. How many lodestones have you looted total so far? (all types)
1 charged lodestone (again, I think it was from FotM)
12. Do you craft? If so, do you have a 400 crafter? if so, how many?
I had cook, jewelry, light armor, artificer and medium armor at 400. Others were at a low level.
13. Do you sell your looted crafting mats? (specify optional)
Only if I was full of them
14. Do you feel your return, (in terms of items, completion, income, etc) for your time, has been worth it?
Yes, until The Lost Shore patch. Because loot wasn’t epic but neither necessary for fun. Now it is
15. In ONE word, what needs improved most; from your perspective?
Ascended & infused must be equalled to exotics in terms of stats (or removed). And FotM loot must be reduced to spread people.
I’m playing less because I feel that last changes make max stats gear unreachable for me.
I was trying to raise all my characters to level 80 (I have 8, one for each profession ). I knew it would be too hard (and expensive) to get the best gear stats for every character, but I found it possible.
Now, with the new tier, I feel that farming and grinding is the only way to reach my goal. I feel I’m being punished if I’m not playing Fractals of farming T6 materials.
Also, as a GW1 fan base player, I feel betrayed because the game is going against the original philosophy. So, when I play, I feel like somebody in somewhere is laughing at me.
So… now I’m playing less than before. Although I haven’t still done some things I would like to do (Some puzzles, for instance)
I’m very disappointed with this new gameplay. I have purchased every GW released game (prophecies, factions, nightfall, EoTN, bonus pack missions, GW2). But If ascended aren’t removed, I’m pretty sure I’m not going to purchase the next one, sorry.
P.S.: English is not my native language, I hope to have expressed my feelings properly
I expect arenanet draw back about creating ascended items with better stats than exotic items. The rest of the patch seems truly awesome to me.
P.S.: I really hope they consider it :S
My humble review:
- Book quests: They were simply great, although I felt sometime the compass didn’t work properly. Sometimes it was activated but there weren’t suspicious locations around. Or they didn’t trigger properly, imho. So I’ll give it 7.5/10
- Reaper’s Rumble: Very nice DotA miniPvP. Although I’m a PvE player, I enjoyed it. Anyway, I think it was a bit lack of rewards. I’ll give it 9.5/10
- Tower clock: Pure madness. It’s flawless for me. I’ll give it 10/10
- Inquisition PvP minigame: Sorry, but I didn’t like it very much. It was very easy to avoid inquisition, and it was very hard to find villagers. I think villagers need an extra pressure, like a reduced map or a good health degeneration that force them to walk into inquisition members. I could win with a villager doing almost nothing and rewards aren’t very good for a game with 15 min. duration. So I’ll give it 3/10, sorry.
- Labyrinth: Nice place, but only useful for farming for 3-4 hours. After that, you’ll only take crap, so you will focus on chests, avoiding all other events. Anyway, it was very fun. I’ll give it 8.5/10
- Mad King Dungeon: Awesome. It was perfect for any level. Anyway, I would add more “Mad King Says” curses. They are only a few at the beginning. The loot was very good. Perhaps too good if you compare it with Labyrinth or regular chests/events. I’ll give it 10/10
- “Mad King Says” event in LA: I liked Rock/paper/scissors! . Anyway: I’ll give it 9/10. 10/10 if you give us some place to save our clothes
Done with all my (eight) characters.
Here are my three favourite pics: my ranger before fighting Mad King, my mesmer farming in the labyrinth and an action pose of Mr. Thorn.
Mardine is bugged too in Baruch Bay. It says that content is disabled and event deosn’t appear.
I only need that view in order to get 100% world, and it’s really frustrating to wait there for hours. Please fix it
Dungeons mut be greatly improved, seriously.
- Minions are like tanks: as someone said before, they have a lot of hit points Today I made Crucible of Eternity and my party needed a lot of time to kill a technologist from the Inquest. I don’t know how many hp he had, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t less than 500k (I think it had about 1M). It was like hitting a door in WvW without a flame ram
- Minions do really high damage: ok, that’s good for me… but only if I have a real chance to avoid it. I like a lot the giant champion in the charr village. In fact, I think he’s one of the best bosses of the game. But in dungeons, sometimes you found 4-5 minions doing the same damage and you can hardly hit them with a proper strategy without being killed.
- Rewards: rewards are… well, the most unbalanced thing I’ve found. For example: you are lvl 80 and you are going to play Ascalon Catacombs in history mode. You are going to find harder minions than playing in Orr. They are harder that Zhaitan minions, but the reward is… worse! You are going to get blue-green items as if you were killing spider hatchlings. And finally, as reward, you will get a low-level yellow hat… with the same design for all the dungeons!!
So these are the three main reasons because I don’t like dungeons in Gw2. I’ve played Crubile history today, because i heard about some rebalancing, but… I’ve only found tanks and deaths, for a very small reward: the final yellow hat (salvaged for an ecto), a superior golemancer rune (ok, this is good, but I need 5 more to get a set and I cannot sell it in the market, so it’s useless for me) and a bunch of white-blue-green items.
By the way, I’m not crying about difficulty. I like a lot HM in GW1. I got Legendary Vanquisher title and I made all dungeons in HM. Torment minions, Aatxes… they were hard, but more enjoyable in my opinion
P.S.: I hope I’ve expressed clearly my opinion, because I’m not English native. Sorry if some parts are hard to understand :S
