A definite possibility Litego, though I doubt it. Especially with all the next gen games coming down the pipe within a year.
lol if you think ps2 is any better… get ready for a world of disappointment.
Been playing PS2 the whole time I have been playing GW2, I can say for ME like this post was all about my feelings. PS2 is more fun and better.
inb4 why you back then….
I decided to swing by and check the thread and am glad for all the comments maybe they will read this and fix things. One note however:
“Ah well 50% player left out the what ? 2 million sales ?”
and 63.7 statistcs are made up on the spot.
game is booming,
Wait… Are we talking about 50% retention like it’s fact? Because 100% of my friends who bought this game are still playing it. Does that mean GW2 has 100% retention?
Wait… Are we talking about 50% retention like it’s fact? Because 100% of my friends who bought this game are still playing it. Does that mean GW2 has 100% retention?
obviously
yes
Sadly you guys clearly didn’t read the OP where I said: “At this time I can say that about 50% of the people I knew before GW2 who bought the game have since quit the game. I imagine this is a pretty across the board number for most people.”
I didn’t make up stats lol. Good troll attempt though. Lets try to keep this real and not just a troll fest.
Totally wish I could get my 60 bucks back.
Anyways I don’t want to stay and feed the thread my piece was said and enjoy your game. Off to Planetside 2 now.
I was doing some edits and thought I should point out one thing, 50% isn’t the retention. It is the 40 day retention my guess is that the 90 day retention will look a lot different.
Also sadly as most people know people don’t come back to games these days they just go back to their last game or wait for the next game(sad reality but it is a reality).
Anyways this doesn’t mean doom for the game, but it isn’t really good retention is all.
Keep in mind though that this game is free to play.. Big change ppl will start to wonder in a few months what the updates did for this game..
All it takes is a installation no need to get that subscription going etc.
Possibly, however this not returning has stayed true through F2P as well. If GW2 gets a return due to being initial purchase only it would be norm breaking.
Also GW2 isn’t F2P it is initial purchase so it won’t get the more new players that DDO and LOTRO did when they went F2P. That is unless ANET makes GW2 actually F2P but that most likely won’t happen and would kitten off anyone who paid 60 bucks initially.
I was doing some edits and thought I should point out one thing, 50% isn’t the end retention. It is the 40 day retention my guess is that the 90 day retention will look a lot different.
Also sadly as most people know people don’t come back to games these days they just go back to their last game or wait for the next game(sad reality but it is a reality).
Anyways to speak more to what I think you both were saying; this doesn’t mean doom for the game and I didn’t include it to try to sound that way. It isn’t really good retention either however.
The next is also related to WvW, first was the instant server transfers that were free. This caused and immediate flock to the top servers which severely diminished servers that were actually quite good in BW3. It also created ridiculous queues on those servers. The lack of Oceanic servers and regional IP locks created an issue of night capping. This wasn’t night capping like you might have if a server had 1 or 2 late night guilds, this was night capping by hundreds of people and it became the single largest determining factor to the power level of a given server. The response to this was unfortunate when they basically said, “As Intended” clearly what they really meant was “Crap our bad but it is honestly too late to fix so we hope it works out”.
The next thing is the Commander Tome. The 100g price tag was a joke as it has nothing to do with how long players WvW but it also was so lacking in features to basically be a smack in the face to anyone that bought it for the right reasons. The lack of a raid system (which is just standard stuff man come on) created the need to get the Commander tome for some large guilds. Unfortunately this tome simply put an arrow over your head and didn’t actually provide any other real benefit. No one uses the waypoints and squad chat was a joke and also unused. It was literally all for the blue arrow.
Next is all the stuff to do in WvW besides WvW. There should never have been npc events, skill points, vistas, pois, and jump puzzles in WvW. Even things like quaggin and lightning nodes add something else besides players fighting players. I know that this stuff seemed like a good idea but ANET should have taken a page out of the Planetside book and just made the mists an empty battlefield. This would help with rendering, server load, botters, and people being in wvw taking up queue slots but not fighting. This was just the type of silly oversight that unfortunately changed something that could have been standard setting for new MMOs into something that was just another crash and burn.
Anyways, I stayed longer than most that I came to the game with. At this time I can say that about 50% of the people I knew before GW2 who bought the game have since quit the game. I imagine this is a pretty across the board number for most people. While I wish it would have been different I think that unfortunately the mistakes that were made post launch compounded a lot of the issues into things that simply broke the game.
ANET took a page out of the Funcom book in their response to the issues. Locking and Deleting threads about botters and hackers, suspending forum accounts for complaining about bugs, ignoring the real issues while trying to make small indecisive fixes that were meant to keep just enough people happy and believing real fixes were coming, and lastly just ignoring the real issues that needed someone to stand up and say hey we got this and here is the plan and this is when it will be done. All of these mistakes have been made before and no game ever succeeds with them.
CCP/Blizzard/SOE all have one thing in common, they talk to their players, listen to them, and aren’t afraid to make the big decisions when something needs real fixing. It was an unfortunate ride that was filled with more hope than fun. Take care ANet maybe in another 5 years you will put out another game that will be better managed.
First off I am leaving Guild Wars 2 and going back to Planetside 2 and probably won’t bother coming back to comment on this. All of the below is my own personal beliefs of Guild Wars 2 and is in no way an attempt to troll or whine.
Review Time:
When I bought Guild Wars 2 I was really excited for launch. I had gotten into a beta weekend and had a ton of fun running around and smashing people. In all ways I found the game new and exciting. Unfortunately, it would be those new ideas that would eventually drive me away from the game.
The first thing that seemed like a great idea and turned out to not work for me was the step away from tank/healer/dps or the “unholy trinity” as ANET liked to call it. Unfortunately it has become painfully clear to players that it is actually the “holy trinity” and allows for organized and streamlined game play that can focus on teamwork and environment without the need for a lot of groups to end up resorting to face rolling through dungeons by just having a constant stream of people dying and running back.
The second thing that seemed like a great new feature and turned out to be disastrous is the downed state. While the idea of this was interesting and effectively made everyone a “healer” it ended up not working that way in game. The biggest effect of this was in WvW where the ability for people to rebound because someone they had hit was killed caused fights to just become ridiculous. In PvE this was also not really a great feature as it just added another phase of dying. It didn’t really make the game easier and also caused people to flock to the downed person to heal them which would often result in an aoe wiping the party.
The third thing I thought was going to be good but turned out to be bad was no Raids and Dungeon gear being cosmetic only. For people who don’t know it takes about 2 days to farm enough gold to buy a full set of exotics in any stat configuration. It takes about the same time running dungeons to get 1 piece of exotic gear from a dungeon in the same stat configuration. This made two problems, 1 there was no real motivation to run dungeons and 2 it only took 2 days to go from fresh 80 to fully geared 80(minus legendary but come on w/e). The lack of raids added with this lack of gear progression made it so that people had literally zero motivation to run PvE other than to farm different currencies.
WvW was the next big disappointment for me. In addition to imbalances due to player populations the invisible army patch was ridiculous. BTW this didn’t exist when the game came out, I have screenshots of me sitting on top of EH Keep looking down at a fight at Bluelake seeing the whole enemy force outside and the whole friendly force. There was a patch about 1 and a half weeks in that actually added the invisible armies for people with good computers. Granted it the idea was to help people with bad computers but it was a clear choice to screw people who had quality gaming machines to try and pander to people with Bestbuy HP or Dell garbage(that or it was a short sighted patch that’s effects were not thought about). This isn’t how you make quality pvp battles this is how you alienate people who spend money on games.

You should get a ps2 beta account better game. Hell ArenaNET devs should too… so they can see how fail their code is compared to SOEs.
they already said it’s not working as intended…a fix is coming.
the mesmer portal was only meant to transfer the players party or up to 5 players, it was never meant to transfer an entire zerg of 40+ including seige.
it works and it should stay but not in the form it has, every spell or ability should have it’s limits the mesmer portal is no different.
it should always be allowed to be used in the fashion it is used now just not for the same number of players.
Three options:
1.) You work for ArenaNet, and therefore can say this.
2.) You saw an ArenaNet employee say this, in which case you need evidence.
3.) You have no evidence.
Option 4: The fact that portals weren’t shut off until they could fix the wall clipping and they stated that they are going to reduce the number of people able to use them is evidence….
(edited by Cayden.4587)
When the next game comes out people will say “WvWvW never works!!” when it is made WvW and someone is screaming for three sided fights.
Unfortunately two things are now clear:
- That the imbalance that games with wvw have are not in how many teams there are and is related to other issues.
and
- Ther other balance issues with WvW can’t be eliminated by adding a third enemy two the match and hoping that the two weak teams will team up on the strong team.
Anyways fail launch is a fail launch… Back to Planetside 2 beta.

This is correct. However the issue people are trying to complain about is that it is being used wrong and that simply isn’t the case and has been stated. Not being able to throw it up on a wall =/= 5 player use limits. They are different issues and the clipping on a wall isn’t leaving so ppl just need to get over it.
Im not even a mesmer lol. Just a realist.
It is here to stay. People should stop acting like players that do it are going to get banned and threaten to report them. Instead just get your mesmers to start doing it until it becomes either standard practice or such an issue they actually change their stance on it from “eh” to something else such as deactivating targeted portals… If the Devs wanted this fixed it would have been a long time ago.

I think this is another sad example of a game that isn’t living up to expectations. Without WvW this game also lacks any endgame. Everyone I know has a full set of exotics already. No reason to run dungeons etc. Crafting is a simple money sink with no real benefit. There are just so many reasons that I am sad to say I have reservations. There is also apparently nothing really on the table. The best they have said is we are working on it, with no time frame and patches going by with no real fixes.
My guild has had a lot of players quit the game over wvw issues. Since there is no subscription maybe when it gets fixed they will come back but my experience has been once someone leaves an MMO they are simply gone.
We are still growing everyday. Early week right now the server is not FULL so it is open for transfers. The transfer American guilds have built upon an already amazing Oceanic force. We need a couple more large WvW guilds to close up this American gap and take things to the next level.
Everyone on this server is really nice and work together without egos getting in the way. This is one of those servers that wants to win and puts that first. Not every server is like this and we encourage people to get on board before free transfers close up.
Forty-Two Alliance is the new American and Euro Time Zone Alliance on Sea of Sorrows. We are looking for more American and Euro Time Zone WvW guilds to come to Sea of Sorrows and join up.
Since coming here we have been able to shore up a definite bleed during the Euro and US peak times which has made the server more competitive. With such a strong oceanic population Sea of Sorrows it is a shame to not be one of the top servers. We brought over 750 new WvW players for NA times this week. However on the scale of a server this is not a huge number.
There are still zones that don’t have queues during NA peak times and we need to fix this. We are looking for individual players and whole guilds at this time. The best days to transfer to the server are Sunday through Wednesday at any time.
We look forward to fighting along side you.
If you are interested but have questions please feel free to send me a PM.
The real problem here is invisible enemies. Give their algorithms time to match servers properly.

Sounds like their devs need to open some channels and get some advice from soe and ccp…. no invisible spacemarines in ps1 or ps2 and EVE is doing amazing things with numbers wayyy larger than 166 v 166 v 166
I am disgusted with the lack of a customer service driven forum moderation. This post will probably be deleted and result in a ban on my account but w/e at least someone is going to hear it.
You have moderators locking/deleting posts about actual problems in the game or forums. You then also give out infractions for that. I was actually locked and suspended from the forums for reporting a hacker with a screenshots… BEFORE the hacker was banned in game even though all 73 people that were on in my guild reported the issue.
You have long threads of flaming go unmoderated but a post with some videos of quality game play focused at saying “see ya next time” gets locked and a threat to ban is sent.
You have 1 moderator cleaning up accidental duplicate posts of a thread with no problems (clearly they read the thread) than an hour later another moderator locks and deletes the remaining thread saying it violates ToS, this shows a clear lack of leadership and policy in your moderation team.
Posts about bots are immediately locked, posts about gold sellers are immediately locked, posts complaining about culling are immediately locked, etc. This shows that your clear objective is suppression of your customers opinions. No game that has ever done this has ever had this succeed simply because the posts just move out to community sites along with the players anger. (Example Age of Conan).
In summery you have a very good game with some very big issues. Players posting about these things shouldn’t be punished. You also have a very large discrepancy in the moderation practices of your staff which is a huge issue in itself. I hope that you do the right thing and fix these issues before you wreck the community your company’s success relies on.

What is the current score?
At this time Defiance has moved 157 of 211 members to SoS. For people stuck out all last week from Monday through Thursday the server was medium or high at us times.
Thanks for the fun times on your server. We are sorry we had to leave to support SoS daytime. Defiance had a first night stomping you on your own BL while you brought your top 3 commanders in to try to stop us.
Good times. We wanted to leave you with some video memories of the experience.
All are available in High Def for your viewing pleasure!
part 1
part 2
part 3
The juice was worth the squeeze, SoS 4 life.
I wonder why people from TC feel the need to fill any thread about SoS recruiting NA with discussion about the match?
I’m not glad either.
Interesting point. I view it like we tried that. If anyone cares why not send me a PM but lets try to keep this thread focused on SoS WVW.
(edited by Cayden.4587)
For the record we were the last major WvW guild to leave Darkhaven, literally 4 left in the 2 weeks before us, (though I am proud of them for getting on their feet again good people over there). Lets not re-write history here to fit your self made idea of us. It is the same as re-writing words in terms of being dishonest.
A good analogy that a member came up with is this:
“Your apartment burned down and so you went out and moved into a new apartment. Then after the first night you realize the roof leaks, do you stay or do you leave?”
(edited by Cayden.4587)
Lets try and keep this free and clear of flaming
Apparently this part was skipped over
Lets try and keep this free and clear of flaming We can all get along. Defiance [RUN] is excited to be working with such a solid oceanic community and great NA WvWers.
We are happy that you have welcomed us and are glad that we have found something that really feels like a home.
We would love more NA guilds to come over and join us.
I am glad that it seems as though the negativity is dropping off. Obviously this is a video game and people have emotions but this thread included absolutely ZERO drama or flaming and was made to attempt to recruit other NA guilds to join us on SoS.
There was no comment of TC guilds or how we view them and the like. It is unfortunate that a small group of people from TC (from what we can tell all from one guild) feel the need to come here and express their emotions with negative interaction. Is it true that there was a negative interaction between Defiance and one guild on TC? Yes. Does that matter when we are leaving? Not to us but apparently to them.
No one is here talking bad about you and the decision to move was already made and we are leaving. There is very little reason for the negativity to continue. I hope that we can move by it and simply see each other on the battlefield.
(edited by Cayden.4587)
Welcome Defiance to SoS. We are always glad to have more NA timezone players on board.
The quickest way to gain respect on our server will be to go about your business without fuss or drama. I wish you the best and hope to see you in-game soon.
/salute
That is what we are looking forward to doing. This is an unfortunate time, we wish the people would just leave the thread like they said they were going to but it doesn’t look to be happening.
I don’t know Azizul it seems people are really hurt about us leaving. Emotions get the best of people
I don’t know who TSG is but I asked and people on SoS were also like “who?” so I am not worried.
either tarnished coast NA force comes to SoS or SoS oceanic force goes to TC…either other would suffice and wouldn’t make any difference. So people really need to chill out. If you keep talking crap about the other servers no one is ever going to want to move their. example Eredon Terrace.
Also Sea of Sorrows has been the designated Oceanic server months before the game even released so you NA guys should really come over here.
Why would any intelligent person move from TC to SoS? It’s pretty obvious that we’re the stronger server. And that’s not an insult either, simply a statement of fact.
I would love to answer this.
Top servers all have 1 thing in common: Oceanic Forces.
They all also have another thing: Long NA Queues.
There are tons of NA guilds that are tired of long queues. However there are not a ton of oceanic guilds in the same situation. The ability to get oceanic guilds to transfer to a server (Tarnished Coast in this case) is tough. However the ability to get NA guilds to transfer to the single only server that has a powerful night force and no NA queues is a lot easier.
As such Defiance’s prediction is that within a couple weeks SoS will be a top contender as NA guilds move to avoid queues and join a server that still has a large oceanic population and thus can be a top contender.
That is why, I hope this answered your question.

I agree smokey we would welcome them on SoS with us. I know they are angry about us leaving but we are all just enjoying the game.
Look at all the rage. BTW yesterday we were also on TC your whole zerg wasn’t focusing us though. Man people are really hurt about us leaving.
You can stop trying to cause drama. As you can clearly see from the thread SoS has welcomed us with open arms. Trying to cause drama won’t make us stay and won’t cause our guildies to leave.
We actually gained about 20 members since we announced we were leaving of people that wanted to come to SoS with us.
I just logged in… it’s NA prime time… and with Defiances obvious immediate impact they should have as a large NA guild going to SoS… SoS now owns:
3 things… combined.
2 supply camps
1 tower. That’s worse than where SoS was at this time yesterday!
Hehe difference is, you dropped 130 points to Gate of Madness because your whole zerg is focused on us out of anger. So the actual point difference from this time of day is 150. Which should be noted if was the case all week, added up would make SoS the winner.
Maths…
That being said, half our guild hasn’t even managed to get over because of server full. It is cool tho We are having fun.. are you?
(edited by Cayden.4587)
All I see is people sad we are leaving and having trouble expressing their emotions. I dunno maybe other people see it differently.
SoS NA member here. It’s good to see us get some NA crowd. We have a strong Oceanic crowd that I run with at night and we even managed to push back some TC crowds before the Oceanic crowd joined, despite outnumbered.
At nights, SoS decimates but during the day, we literally drop to maybe 20 or so total people in each borderland, maybe less since this is an unofficial oceanic server.
There is another 2 guilds that have contacted us so far and are thinking about coming over. So hopefully when they do they will really help get everything off the ground.
From what I hear you also have a lot of dedicated American Time Zone players that really just need the numbers to back them up. Is this true?
Not too worried about the hearsay, but we’ve dealt with a lot of egocentric players before. It’ll be nice to finally have some players during NA time, so welcome to SoS!
Thanks, don’t worry this is all just a bunch of people complaining because they are hurt we left. We look forward to working with you and have already gotten in contact with your Australian leaders and joined the SoSU alliance.
We will miss you too.
No idea what you guys are talking about. lol, you guys are giving up tons of space to GoM just to attack our group out of spite. (Not that we care) but to come on and claim that we are being unclassy is funny. Especially when as soon as we had people in WvW on SoS we pulled everyone from WvW on TC.
grow up.
I look forward to meeting you on the field of battle. Have your medics standing by, friend.
I am locked but now that we have ppl in WvW I have left Borderlands but I believe they are looking forward to seeing you too.
We already moved we aren’t sticking around so they don’t need to trust us MCL. There are people here just exaggerating things. There is some clear butthurt about us leaving, the reality is we are leaving and so who cares. Let TC cry about it and flame on the forums.
Thanks for the free publicity love how you all missed that part of the post
Y’all arguing for no reason other than being hurt we left your server are really just giving free publicity to the thread. No one thinking about looking to bring there guild to a server without WvW NA queues but with an oceanic population is going to read beyond the first post.
Also, the idea that in THIS game server hopping is even a thing is funny. Anet build the system and people use it. Server xfers are free which makes them just a part of the game. You all need to understand that and move forward. It is like the night capping, as intended and move on.
We never went to HoD lol, we were thinking about HoD when Darkhaven collapsed but chose Tarnished Coast instead because HoD queues were super long.
Don’t like TC losing everything at night so going to Sea of Sorrows.
Darkhaven collapsed ???
Today
You dropped 7 ranks in in 2 weeks bro, everyone left we tried to stay but then had to leave too.
(edited by Cayden.4587)
TC player here. Good luck to you guys. I had fun roaming with your team. You provided me with some solid strategy and great advancement in levels. I don’t like to see good people leave. I try to stay out of the controversy in team chat and get along with everyone. There is one thing I would like to point out though. Every time you move just to win it kills your guild a little more. Sooner or later you will only be a faded copy of your old selves. There is something to be said in being loyal to your server community and building something from it. I’ll delete this game from my computer before I switch realms. TC for life.
Awww well look forward to fighting you then. Hopefully next week
