Engineer of Ash Legion / Necromancer
Legion of Honour – Guild
My Necro – Anna Masovia Piast – Level 80
This question has been on my mind for some time.
Minions, and pets of all kinds, no longer take untargeted damage in PvE but were strengthened many times previously to not be so terrible.
I have wondered if playing pets has become a bit too easy in casual PvE and they may need a toughness or dps reduction.
Please convince me otherwise. Those annoying flesh bags may get in the way half the time when they are not staring at flowers or picking fights but they are pretty durable when traited right.
In my opinion No. And yes right now I am playing a Minion Master.
And I cannot think of a way to convince you or any other player otherwise. It is a simple fact different players play different ways – styles.
For example – I cannot stand PvP; to many years of WoW and Ultima Online has made me feel this way.
BUT I would the 1st one in line to fight/threaten to quit, etc. if the powers that be wanted to pull it from this game or make so you have to do PvP i.e. open world.
So my question if fellow necro-mm is having a what you feel is a too easy of a time who is it hurting?
If I am enjoying the game that I paid for is that the real whole point of these games?
I always wondered how this would work; mini utility icons above the shroud utilities slots? since i assume the slots will eventually be used for shroud utilities. A display to the side of the screen permanently there? that would help when transformed as well so we can see shroud, weapon and utility skills but that might clutter the screen
Has anyone actually suggested how they would design a visual? Well I have one that would be easy to implement. A visual swap, basically just like weapon swap. It would show in place of the skills you are using at the time but it doesnt actually let you use the skills . They can then allow players to keybind multiple visual swaps. For example:
Visual swap 1- Shift + 1. Shroud
Visual swap 2— Shift + 2. Weapons
Visual Swap 3 — Shift + 3. UtilitiesClasses like ele can also assign multiple V swaps for their different attunments since i imagine they have the same problem.
So if you in shroud, you press Shift + 2 and you can see your weapon skills, over the shroud 1 – 5. Press it again and then you cancel the view. The opacity can be much lower than the regular icons (basically a ghostly effect) or a a different colour to clearly show you can’t use them. The bindings of course can be anything, doesnt have to be shift buttons
No clutter, allows people to use it if they want to and works with future upgrades to classes.
Problem solved.
Nice Idea
By seeing the cooldowns of our utility skills, we can then more strategically use Death Shroud, promoting skilled play/counter-play, and it will help balance the necro as a class.
Bump if you agree!
Edit: You really can help by posting a +1. According to ANet support, “Members of the Development Team read the forums daily…[and reading suggestions] helps them gauge the level of interest in a particular idea,” so lets show that our level of interest is high.
Yes this would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! +1

Name: ChaosSgt
Main Character: Tarquin Duskmane – Level 80 Engineer
Current Region/Server: Maguuma
Interested Activities or specific things you want help with: Dungeons, PvE, Crafting, Personal Stories, well just about the whole game LoL
Active: Play mainly EARLY weekday morning – like 2AM to 4AM EST and a little on Weekends
Additional Comments: I have played many online games: LotR Online, UO, WoW, and DnD Online
But due to my job work strange hours (Security Officer) I play when I can very early in the mornings and a little in the afternoons (USA – EST) and some on weekends, I currently have a level 80 Charr Engineer (My Main) personal stories not finish, Lvl-80 Human Ranger (My 1st Character – done all the personal stories solo DIED A LOT LoL), and a Level 80 Human Elementalist – personal stories not finish.
But with the understanding —-— I HATE PvP and will not try it (and because of this I am not too interested in WvW), I got my fill of during my days of Ultima Online and World of Warcraft.
Also I am the Site Supervisor for my company at the contract that I work; so there are times I may not be able to play or have to quit suddenly i.e. if a officers call off or the site has issues, etc.
Some Warnings —-— I am a slow typer in game (have to look at the keys) this does not mean I am ignoring you, just I am busy. But I am willing to get Team-speak or something like that to help with it. Also I have been a Lone Wolf player for a long time, so I am not use to asking for help or being given it.
Do you want to be a member of the guild Legion of Honour Y/N: Maybe I currently belong to a Guild but with my job/life I do not get to help them much or vice versa so it maybe the same for LoH.
Are you happy for people to contact you directly (whisper/PM) Y/N: Yes but I am slow on the typing.
Well I was reading some posts, I thought I would ask this question.
If there was no Charr in the game which race (if any) would you play?
For me I would say Norn. I have tried them all so far they all end up —- Delete.
(edited by ChaosSgt.9713)
Charr are Charr.
But they feline-like features, imo.
I thought the same when I first used it. Twas disappointing not being able to fight alongside Reeva,
-but then again if two players used the skill, and they both had a common member, players would be seeing double, or more.I think just renaming the skill to Legion Support would be the most sensible option.
LoL I am in the same boat glad I was not the only one.
I would LOVE to see be MY warband, BUT I am not to sure if it can be done, also wish they would stay a little longer.
Has anyone noticed that some pets are more used than others?
If you think that there are either pets that get too much attention or pets that need some love, please post it here!
For me:
Overused: Brown Bear,Jungle Stalker, Fern hound
Underused:Warthog, Boar, Hawk, White Moa, pretty much the entire Jellyfish family
From what I have seen – Overused Bears/Underused – Pigs
BUT I love my Drakes
What I would love to see come into the game for Rangers (and Warriors) is a Great Axe (Two -Handed Axe).
This fits my idea of a person who wanders the lands --- just my opinion
IN THE NAME OF ALL THE SPIRITS!!!! Oh my are they great!! I would LOVE to have them all BUT last it is the Queen of them.
Okay lets try this again —-— Hello I am looking for a Guild on Maguuma; I am an older player (54 yrs old) in the USA looking a more mature (30+ mental age) guild that teaches more about the game. I have played many online games: LotROnline, UO, WoW, and DnD online
I also due to my job work strange hours (Security Officer) I play when I can very early in the mornings and a little in the afternoons (USA – EST) and some on weekends, I currently have a level 80 Charr Ranger (My Main)Lvl-45 Norn Warrior, and would love to find an PvX Guild.
But with the understanding —-— I HATE PvP and will not try it (and because of this I am not too interested in WvW but would be willing to try it as a roamer), I got my fill of during my days of Ultima Online and World of Warcraft.
Also I would like a guild that can teach me more about crafting which I seem to be stuck at, and more about the game as a whole, and finish my personal stories.
I do not want your gold, for you to power level me, and I do not want to change servers, and if my wife is playing LotRO, I will be helping her.
So I can see various reasons you may not want me in you guild; but I am very loyal to my guilds of the past (not a guild jumper) but if you just are looking for a number, I am not the person for you.
Thank you,
Tarquin Duskmane
(aka – King of Sheba of U.O.)
9/10
I’m Welsh, so a fellow Celt using their language will rank high with me. I have seen quite a few Welsh names about, they are never played by anyone Welsh however.
Female engineer – Bishie Bishie
10/10 LOVE IT
Mine is Oakdaughter – my Guardian
I like all of the names, though not sure about the necro… maybe because it reminds me of the word aurox :P I take it the elementalist and mesmer are siblings (or married) – like the idea of them being related anyhow
I have three human characters, all with surnames relating to their origin:
Liv Phinney (warrior, from Phinney Ridge outside Divinity’s Reach)
Maua ya Kourna (elementalist, orphaned noble… ancestry from Kourna (Maua and ya is swahili – ya means “of” but I can’t promise I use it correctly!)
Jane Commoner (engineer, another orphan and street urchin)Last one sounds all ordinary I guess but I think that’s why I like it. Plus I needed a red head. It’s her sole reason for existing, really
Liv Phinney – 7/10 (I like Liv as a first name)
Maua ya Kourna – 8/10 (Interesting with the swahili!)
Jane Commoner – 6/10 (Too common? :P)I like your account name a lot though, “Vanadis”! 9/10
I got a bunch of characters, some more serious than others… Main on top.
Aurora Evenstar – Human Guardian
Maren Elizabéth – Human Thief
Zaishen Saint – Human Mesmer (name originates from my PvP character in GW1)
Fenrir Frostbane – Charr Warrior
Arisu Tensei – Norn Thief
Afro Montana – Asuran Engineer
Well I like them all 9/10 for the humans
Mine is Bellatrix Heartbane — my Necro
Mellowpuff!
8/10 I like it
Mine is Holesnipe Oldcog Lvl 30 engineer
Well I decided on engineer, the will my 2nd go at one. And since I am a old US Navy Hole Snipe – an engineman was my rating I think it fits
And I made him a Asura – Holesnipe Oldcog
Honestly depends on the mood I’m in. The only 2 that have stolen me away from ranger for an extended amount of time are my necro and engi. Both are completely different playstyles from the ranger but they are useful to have if I my group is lacking on AoE damage.
Okay neco and engi
Thanks
old time UO player? me too, I played on great lakes and pacific but I live in ny… dont ask why, I as young and dumb. Graveyard crew forever.
Ranger and Ele
I played on AOL Legends, Chesapeake, and Great Lakes.
And Thanks for the help
Mesmer.
Despite all the obvious differences, to me the feel of the classes is very simular and both play very well in a kite / avoid playstyle, which is how I like to play.
I have played my Mesmer very little since the LB buff though, largely because I used my Mesmer as when I wanted to play full zerker and burst people, something which I never felt my ranger could do well enough to be enjoyable. Now though, I must admit I don’t use anything but my Ranger much simply because I can do whatever I want here (except troll, still have my S/D thief for trolling… :P)
Okay thanks for the advice
Well no offense, quaniesan that really that helpful.
Okay I am going to post this in this forum; I am a old time gamer starting play online with Ultima Online, GW1, LotRO and WoW.
I have always played one type of the ranger, hunter, etc – guy using the bow. Well I am really enjoying GW2, and gotten my Ranger up to 80th Level (still have not found a guild that I like/that likes me – but that is different posting).
And here is a few things about my “style” of play, I do not PvP —- I hate it, since my days of UO.
I am not sure about WvW but it sounds like PvP :P
I very much a “lone wolf” player. (LoL most likely why Guilds and I do not mix well LoL).
Well there you go, and sorry about the long intro, and if I bored ya.
And I have tried the rest of the professions —-- but none seem to get a hold on me like the ranger/hunter, SO I was I wondering?
What is your favorite profession after the ranger? And why do you like it?
Hello I am looking for a Guild on Maluuma; I am an older player (54 yrs old) in the USA looking for a more mature guild that teach more about the game. I also due to my job work strange hours (Security Officer), I currently have a level 26 Charr Ranger (my Favorite class) and would love to find an all Ranger Guild.
But with the understanding —-— I HATE PvP and will not try it (and because of this I am not too interested in WvW), I got my fill of during my days of Ultima Online and World of Warcraft. Also I would like a guild that can teach me more about crafting which I seem to be stuck at.
Last Warning —-— I am a slow typer in game (have to look at the keys) this does not mean I am ignoring you, just I am busy.
So I see various reasons you may not want me in you guild; but I am very loyal to my guilds of the passed (not a jumper) and on Ultima Online I even ran one (with my wife) – Legends of Hope.
Thank you,
Tarquin Duskmane
(aka – King of Sheba of U.O.)
When they call me Kitty \ Cat \ Furball; I respond – MEAT!!!!!
Gnash Steelshell:
4/10 first name, seems kinda generic. 8/10 last name, pretty much perfect charr right there.
Lyan Soulbringer:
5/10 for Lyan because its a cool name, but not really charr. Sounds more human/Sylvari
6/10 for Soulbringer because as cool as that sounds, again, it’s not really Charr.Ashfur Ketchum, Ranger of the Ash Legion
Winston Charchill, Engineer of the Iron Legion
Gary Oakmane, Guardian of the Blood Legion.I have a problem.
I agree, the names sounded better at first, so I had my two charr remade.
Retaining the same spirit as before, re-named my engineer to Groknar Steelshell, I really liked the Steelshell bit. My Necromancer was also renamed to Reesa Cursefang, of the Curse Warband of the Ash Legion.
Oh, I like that one, especially the last name, Oriana sounds a tad too “human” I think, but it’s alright 9/10
I got a charr thief called Mereen Brightclaw, for her white fur with black spots as well as the bright flash of her steel – very likely to be the first and last thing you’ll see of her xD
9/10. Really like it. Should get a chaos weapon skin to go with it
9/10 For Both Names
Tarquin Duskmane of the Mane Warband / Ash Legion / Tracker (Ranger) /Maguuma
(edited by ChaosSgt.9713)
Okay thank you both
Hello all I am a new player, and have been playing a Hunter for the last few weeks, but I wanted to try something different.
So I made me a little Asura Lady Engineer; but any way I have gotten her up to Lvl 7 (been a blast so far), and I have gotten to grenades. And I can see how effective they are. BUT LoL I also see how poor I will be with them.
Not as quick as I was in my UO days – a little older now than I was all those years ago. So is there any Builds or way that engineers can be played (in PvE only), without grenades – I am a big solo player btw, but not to much into dungeons.
