Your ideal of PvP sounds like people performing PvE rotations on each other and sounds boring.
I would argue that this is actually how the game currently is.
The current state of PvP involves finding an overpowered build + rotation and using it over and over regardless of the situation.
GW2 PvP on the other hand only requires players know what the game’s broken stuff is and exploit it.
Finally somebody who gets it.
I can pick Mesmer and use the exact same rotation vs every profession of every build and win 95% of fights. This rotation, mind you, took about 15 minutes of playing Mesmer to figure out.
I’m almost rank 30 now and my strategy hasn’t changed since rank 3.
The only one I agree with is crowd control. I’ve never played a game so over the top in this regard. Losing control of my character for 15+ seconds happens way more often than it should.
…only to have a thief on the opposing team run in, use heartseeker one time and get the 25 points.
Please fix this awful game.
Wait so, he shouldn’t be able to self rez because being downed means he’s not good? So what, he doesn’t DESERVE it?
Please tell me where you got the idea that only bad players get downed.
People play bunker because being downed in 3 hits by a thief or mesmer followed by an invisible stomp is stupid (What’s funny is even as a bunker build this can still happen).
I don’t know what else needs to be said about it…I mean why would anyone want fights in this game to be even quicker? I play a bunker engineer and it’s way more fun than my Mesmer who’s pure glass cannon. Why? Because I actually have time to think about what skills to use instead of just re-using the exact same rotation as many times as I can before getting hit a few times and dying.
What’s worse is, it’s really not that hard to beat a bunker 1v1 if you build your character right. I will lose every time to a necro, ranger, or mesmer who knows what they’re doing. Unfortunately (or I guess for me, fortunately :P) most players are bad and have no idea what they’re doing.
A bigger problem is that the #2 skill just decides not to work a lot of the time. At first I thought it was because of stability but then I noticed that most people it doesn’t work on don’t have stability. It just fails for no apparent reason.
Engineer has the worst downed state by far.
Another issue is that clicking the ground removes your target, which makes targeting in a game this fast paced a nightmare.
There are countless issues with sPvP, and PvP in general. So many it would take multiple posts just to begin to cover it, so I’ll start with one thing that gets on my nerves.
The issue is that when I lose a fight, it’s not because I was outplayed, it’s because my opponent was the right class/build and figured out the right 3 button combo to win. But don’t get me wrong it’s not just about losing fights. When I beat somebody, I should be satisfied with my play. Unfortunately I’m not, because all I did was abuse a class mechanic and simple button combo that took me 15 minutes of playing the class to figure out. I will literally run the same rotation over and over and beat every single person who isn’t the perfect counter class/build. This is just one of many issues that makes sPvP a joke.
I was having the same exact thoughts the other day. You pretty much get rewarded for disregarding strategy completely, joining the mass zerg and spamming high damage moves so you tag somebody and get kill credit for them.
Alternatively, you can also stack up points by using swiftness to run back and forth between points that aren’t being zerged and capping them. Even if you see enemies coming towards the point you just capped, you’ll get more points if you abandon it and run to another one instead of trying to defend the point.
This game…..lol.

Rifle Turret, Battering Ram, and Toolkit?
Worst bunker build ever.
What Darcy said.
So yes, you can still exit before you get downed, which is the best use of this ability
I love when I stealth, run away, and then a thief uses heartseeker and hits me for 9k even though I’m invisible and it’s a single target move.
Engineer is basically the Paladin from Vanilla WoW.
None of the devs play it so they just don’t care how broken it is :P
I don’t get why you’re complaining that the game is bad when it’s a known fact :P
The only bunker you can’t solo is guardian.
As a bunker engineer there’s really nothing I can do vs necros, rangers, and thieves who use condition damage properly so I really don’t get why people complain about bunker builds when only 1 prof does it effectively.
Yep just got out of a game where a guardian was holding a point vs 6 people by exploiting this bug.
It’s completely game breaking and makes sPvP more of a joke than it already is.
It’s not OP it’s just ridiculously tedious to deal with :P Losing control of your character is never fun.
It’s like Guardians that use multiple spirit weapons. Not really that strong, just really really really annoying.
Being taken from 100% to 25% in a few hits while being poisoned and crippled at the same time might as well be insta kill because there’s no way to recover from it.
Imagine a bunker guardian with a vitality/toughness/healing power ammy XD
Somebody mentioned it already, but I prefer the duelist as well because they don’t run into AOE clusterkittens and get gibbed.
Also, Seppuku/Sudoku mix up tickled me hard.
I don’t see many people doing this in random sPvP, so I thought I’d let all who don’t know..um, know.
The Phantasmal Berserker is a unique phantasm because when you summon it, it appears next to your target. Unless I’m mistaken, this is the only phantasm that does this. This unique property allows you to summon it through obstructive barriers. Enemies zerging the clock tower? Target one of them and run below. Press your GS 1 key. If it says “out of range”, you’re out of luck. But if it says “Obstructed”, then you can summon a berserker through the ceiling and do tons of AOE damage while also bleeding and crippling multiple enemies. Also, since they will most likely kill your berserker, the traits that make your illusions cripple and/or apply a condition when killed make this strategy even sweeter.
So, enjoy it before it’s nerfed!
Try playing engineer. There’s a trait that makes you invisible when immobilized. Can’t even begin to express how many times it’s saved my life.
There’s also elixr C which turns all conditions into boons. Definitely helps with immob.
XD
I don’t know why you’re saying nobody said it was balanced when the second post in the thread is:
“no such thing as a best profession in spvp it’s all about how you play everything can counter anything else so just pick what feels most natural to you.”
That’s the attitude I was referring to with my post. Sorry, I should’ve quoted it to be more clear. But yeah I’ve beat every class 1v1 too. Doesn’t mean I should’ve
Dude that’s not true at all. Some people are just bad at the game. If I’m a Necro and I kill a bad Mesmer, does that mean that Necro is on par with Mesmer? No it just means that player was bad. It doesn’t mean my class can counter their class.
Would you people who keep saying that every class can counter every class just go away?
There as never been a balanced game in the history of games.
GW2 is no exception.
Thief, Mesmer, Guardian.
Duh.
So the only viable way to avoid being killed in 2 hits by thieves is going to be nerfed.
Thank god I don’t play this game anymore.
Yep, 2394 toughness here.
Downed in a few hits while permanently poisoned by an opponent I can’t target because he’s invisible the whole time. Oh well I guess I’ll just run next time. Oh wait no I wont because thieves are the only profession in the game you can’t ever run away from. So running didn’t work. Ok now I’m downed, at least I can delay my death a few more seco…oh, nope. Finished off by an invisible theif I can’t target.
Makes no sense.
I quit GW2 untill they at least make an effort to balance classes.
You can’t kill something you can’t target.
Yeah this is pretty normal.
When I play Engineer in sPvP, I build around toughness and HP. Unfortunately it makes no difference. Countless times a theif will down 3 of us guarding a point by doing nothing but attacking out of stealth and then restealthing before the game even recognizes that the they’re no longer invisible. There’s pretty much only 1 way to avoid getting stomped by theives and that’s to roll a Mesmer, which I did. Kind of sad that I have to change classes to even have a chance of having my attacks hit the opponent.

Clones are useless for tricking your opponent if you’re moving in a way that makes you stand out, aka dodging and strafing. If you put a tiny bit of effort into mimicking your clones, often opponents will go after them instead of you. Obviously it doesn’t take long to figure out that the clone isn’t the Mesmer, but if a clone distracts somebody for even 1 hit, then it’s done it’s job and my chances of winning the fight increase dramatically.
I don’t really get what you want. We’re one of the strongest classes in PvP, and making clones harder to tell apart from the player would make us even stronger, which honestly doesn’t need to happen.
I’m level 32 now, using Greatsword and Sword/Sword or Pistol, and things have definitely gotten easier. The truth is I gave up on Mesmer for a while because playing one at low levels is a very unpleasant experience.
That being said, you will never be as good at soloing as a guardian is…but neither will any other class, so it’s not a big deal :P
“Buff Mesmers” – Sun Tzu
…
A single kill on a single target is hardly meaningless if that target is trying to kill you.
Winning is not a marginal gain.
I don’t really see how anyone can say “Only noobs get hit by Moa” when you can turn invisible and cast it o_O
I play a Mesmer and I feel OP in PvP, and there really is only one big reason for this.
I use greatsword/sword+sword, 30 trait points in power tree, 30 points in precision tree, and 10 in toughness. This allows for some ridiculous burst…my phantasmal berserker (which often can be summoned through obstructive barriers) by itself can often take somebody down to less than 50% health. I use divinity rune in armor and berserker pendant. I have 50%+ crit and almost 70% crit damage. So why is it OP?
Because even though I’m a pure glass cannon build, my survivability is still higher most other classes, even when their gear and traits are set up in a way that gives them maximum survivability.
And don’t get me started on Moa. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been guarding a point when a skilled opponent comes a long and gets me down to a few HP, completely outplaying me in everyway, only to be turned into a Moa at the last second and get killed in 3 hits.
