My biggest frustration is being in the middle of a move, staying at my in-laws in Nowhere, TX so I don’t have a full 30 minutes of connectivity. What’s the purpose of requiring that?

Just gonna add – I liked Stronghold a lot. I’m not usually a PvPer so I can’t really give the kind of thoughtful analysis I’ve seen here (love reading it though) but I will say – maybe the points given for killing NPCs is too much? Donno… in those rare matches that were decided by points, I would have rather racked up my win through smashing whatever gates we got through or how many PC kills we got. NPC-kill wins felt, just, “meh”.

With the expansion coming and new types of battles, it makes sense that the PvE meta could change. I’m curious to know if anyone thinks it will change enough to warrant waiting on making an ascended set.

Take all maps and swap them along the X-axis. This would be a huge laugh for people in EotM who memorize all the ledges/jumps. Anyone who’s mastered all the jumping puzzles could get a new feel for them.

Since I only suggest it as a temporary game type (like Sneak Attack was) then I see the tapping as just another way strategies would change to suit the different rule set. I hadn’t thought of it while making the idea, but I will add it to the notes above – thanks for bringing it up!

I should have read this before posting my own thread, the ideas are similar. I like the idea of upgrades doing more than take away your money and supply – they’d have extra value in the PPT. My idea (linked below) is to also scale the PPT, but based on how many times an objective has been defended.

A while back (Dec 16 – Jan 13) we had the Sneak Attack version of WvW. It seemed possible that other alternate rule sets would come out from time to time, so I wanted to put an idea I had for one. It addresses the “There’s no reason to defend.” mentality.

Hold the Fort!
Points for your world will increase each time an objective is successfully defended (excluding borderland Ruins). On the map, objectives would be marked with an additional information – successful defends. Each successful defend would increase the “tier” (not to be confused with the tier of wall defense) of the objective and it would then earn more points. I’m going to create some numbers just for example’s sake, it would be up to a development team to tweak and play with them for optimal results.

Current Points:
Camp – 5
Tower – 10
Keep – 25
Castle – 35

Tier 0 – You have it, but it hasn’t been attacked and defended yet.
Camp – 0
Tower – 1
Keep – 5
Castle – 10

There are possibly better numbers to use, but the idea is for taking but not defending something to give you very little reward.

Tier 1 – You have gone through one defense cycle.
Camp – 1
Tower – 3
Keep – 10
Castle – 15

I think there should be some increase in points if you’ve defended once, but it shouldn’t be huge.

Tier 2 – You’ve gone through two defense cycles.
Camp – 2
Tower – 5
Keep – 15
Castle – 20

Tier 3 – You’ve gone through three defense cycles.
Camp – 5
Tower – 10
Keep – 25
Castle – 35

This puts the points per tick to what they are in normal WvW.

Tier 4 – Max Tier.
Camp – 10
Tower – 20
Keep – 40
Castle – 50

Puts the points per tick into “epic” heights.


Strategy Notes
Tapping as a strategy to divert the opponent’s attention, or to lock up their WP would be risky now since an objective might only be low Tier and would get an easy boost. However, tapping a max Tier objective would still be a valid use of time since it can’t help your opponent’s score, and will possibly send them in a defensive frenzy so as not to loose their high scoring objective. (Thanks, leboy.)


General Notes
I don’t think myself the master of numbers, so other numbers might work too, the idea I want to put forth is the concept.

I realize this does not address the idea of solo rewards, so if someone is playing in EB or any BL simply for a “karma train” or similar experience, then they will likely still do so.

I think this would do what ArenaNet seemed to want when they did Sneak Attack, it would simply change up the game play of WvW. Also, by putting the Tier markers on map, you change how opponents attack. If Blue is ticking massively, then perhaps Red will decide to put all they have into taking the top tier objective in order to knock out a large chunk of their points per tick. Similarly, if Green is sitting on a comfortable lead, they may decide to devote resources to keeping their high tier objectives in order to keep such a lead, instead of going out and smashing their opponents.

This definitely needs to be addressed. I was finally able to get my husband back into the game, but he missed a large chunk of season 1. We plan on playing through new characters together through the personal story and into the new content – but there will be this awkward gap between the story and Season 2.

Something I would really like in the UI is a place to keep my own journal. I could keep little tidbits, useful and otherwise, in an easy to reach place instead of having word and excel files open all the time while I play.

Just got to say that the “month or so for casuals” is still too short of an estimate. As a casual, I can tell you it took me two months to get one character to level 80 and two years to get my legendary. Casuals will never run out of content. <3

Just want to add that I’m very happy your progress doesn’t reset. Whenever I go see family out of state, it’s a toss up as to whether or not their internet connection is working so I don’t always get to log in to the game. (Yeah, they’re silly little noodles that way.) So thanks for not resetting my progress if I can’t log in!

I’m also unable to get the Heart. I have tried when no events are going on, and while the pres are going on (which is right now). I’ll also try during the fight and after the fight and post back with results.

THIS is what I had hoped for with legendary weapons. The scavenger hunt, the slow upgrade with a visual component, it’s just so much awesome!

It may take me a few weeks to finish (I prefer to make money on the TP, not spend it) but I’m definitely sold on the concept. More like it, please!

I may not have gotten to third tier yet, so it’s a bit less of a loss for me, but I’m in a similar boat regarding tier one and two of all five cultural armors.

Hopefully it’s easily remedied since all that needs to be done is to verify a person’s achievement level in this, but I do understand that sometimes programming isn’t so straight forward.

Disagree.

I only joined WvW a few months into GW2 as a way to work toward a legendary. It’s all I’ve done since. The Season achievements were an awesome addition (some could have been better, a few were too many and some were too few) and I loved keeping track of rankings week to week, it felt like a competitive sport. I never had high expectations of massive rewards the way some people did, but that’s just me. I never expect huge rewards from a video game, only fun.

Two thumbs up from me.

EDIT: My question now: When’s Season 2? I can’t wait!

This has got to be the first time ever that I’ve been sucked into reading about the patch before playing it. Usually by the time my client has finished the download, I zip off with only a few paragraphs read. And it’s not even narrative! Really enjoyed this content, it brought what I love about WvW (coordinated efforts by large groups of players) into PvE. Probably the first time I didn’t feel guilty for abandoning the borderlands in order to experience new content. Love it!

So does that mean this: "They require Orichalcum Imbued Inscriptions to craft, the recipes for which must be purchased from Master craftsmen, while the weapon recipes themselves are all discoverable. " is wrong?

I already made the inscription, it just doesn’t show up for me to discover the weapon.

I’m not sure why I can’t make a certain item. According to the Wiki (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Pearl_Conch) I have the proper materials to make the Celestial Pearl Conch. But my inscription does not appear in my discoverable tab.

Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Small aside first, LOVE the Scarlet update. I look forward to seeing her menace Tyria for a long time to come. And on that note…

The live-stream at the beginning of this newest Living World content suggested that Scarlet would continue to portal-invade maps, but at a slower frequency. Currently there is no real negative consequence (besides loot) to failing the invasion event. This makes sense though because, win or lose, Scarlet plans to withdraw anyway so she can attack another map very quickly. But once she slows down these attacks, that leaves her with available resources to leave behind and menace a map if her invasion is not successfully driven off. Lesser events could be spread throughout the map in question so that Tyria is a slightly more menacing place there, until she eventually recalls all forces to strike again.

These lesser events could simply be a slight scaling up of certain dynamic events (centaur attacks in Kryta are more powerful because they’re being supplied with Molten Alliance weaponry, for example) to roaming pockets of minions (clockwork minions roaming the brand and making it more deadly) to all kinds of other things (you guys know the type of stuff, just do that awesome thing you do).

I think this holds with the Living World idea, there should be a motivation to succeed beyond loot grinding, but rather a desire to impact the world and know that you made a difference in the world at large.

Ability to Sort Recipes

Currently Implemented System
When looking at our dye collection, we can sort it by hue, type, and material.

Suggested Addition
When looking at our craft-able recipes, give us the ability to sort them alphabetically and by level.

Why?
I do know we can search our recipes, which is a nice feature. However, when trying to figure out which recipes are yet to be discovered (so I can make the proper amount of emblems/dowels/etc.) it is bothersome to scroll through and check each weapon/armor type individually. The ability to sort alphabetically lets me see right away just how many Hearty or Malign items I’ve made and how many more I should try to discover. The ability to sort by level, in my opinion, is most useful after the skill has been maxed so that the desired known and discovered level 400 recipes are easily spotted (since no recipe is highlighted anymore – which is as it should be).
