It wouldn’t even be that hard. Just stick a human in mistward armor.
Revenant…. I have not fought enough of them to figure this out. the most devastating I had one that used eiether dagger or sword (not sure) that pretty much ignored my traps, healed as he fought (vampire style) and laid me to waste like an old school Warrior.
What server are you on? I can walk three feet without running into one on Dragonbrand. Sword three is the move you are talking about. Revenants can’t use daggers.
The vampire heal you saw could have been the shiro heal/trait or it could have been the glint heal that heals them for all the damage you do for 3 seconds. You should look up the symbol and be on the look out for it.
I think it needs to apply some kind of damaging condition.
I see a lot of awesome ideas for long range condition weapon and the corresponding legends. What I am curious about is whether or not you guys think they would implement it as a new elite spec or if they would simply add it on it’s own. Is there a precedent for such a thing?
I am pretty sure it was white.
I feel like Mallyx is so much weaker than it was last beta weekend. I was really excited to play a condition based revenant come launch but right now I don’t see that happening.
I wish the spec was the way it used to be with self applying conditions and gaining benefits from them as well as copying then to your enemies.
I pretty much only PvP so I miss the old unyielding anguish as I would use it to prevent stomps and decap nodes. I think some form of hard CC needs to be added to UA. A fear or a knock back upon landing would be great. As of right now I think the mallyx abilities no longer seem worth slotting.
I hope that Roy takes another look at Mallyx before launch.
if the dwarven road thingy also gives pulsed swiftness, it would be golden. Right, roy? after all, the point of building a road is to make your journey a little easier, no harm in a little swiftness on a magical road.
You can blast inspiring Reinforcement for AoE swiftness. It’s a lightning field.
I feel like UA should definitely have some form of CC when you land. Either a knock back or a fear. This way you could still use it for decapping and securing revives on teammates in PvP.
Fear would also make sense thematically. I am actually surprised that Mallyx doesn’t already have access to fear.
Empowering Misery: no changes
Pain Absorption: no changes
Banish Enchantment: inflicts 2 stacks of confusion. Inflicts 2 additional stacks of confusion if your foe has 3 or more conditions. Other than that, retain the old functionality.
A minor change that allows the enemy to limit your confusion output with cleanses, while removing the friction with fellow condi cleansers.
Unyielding Anguish: reworked (New Cooldown: 5s)
Leap toward the targeted area, tormenting foes and creating a demonic field that torments enemies. The initial hit applies bonus torment to foes that have equal or more conditions than the threshold applied to them.
Damage: 184
Condition threshold: 3
Initial Torment(3): 4s
Bonus Initial Torment(3): 4s
Pulsing Torment: 4s
Number of targets: 5
Pulses: 4
Duration: 4s
Radius: 240
Combo Field: Dark
Range: 600Transitions into: Shadow Blast (or whatever)
Detonate the demonic field, inflicting fear to foes inside it.
Damage: 368
Fear: 1,5s
Number of targets: 5
Combo Finisher: Blast
Radius: 240Embrace the Darkness (back to -8 energy)
Summon the power of the legendary demon to transform into a powerful avatar. Increase all attributes, and transfer one condition with its remaining duration to nearby foes every few seconds.
Embrace the Darkness: 15% All Stats
Number of Targets: 5
Conditions Transferred: 1
Interval: 3s
Radius: 240
I think these are solid suggestions. I would very much enjoy playing a revenant with these skills.
I think now that mallyx skills can only maintain torment and confusion for a decent duration, a threshold of 3 conditions will be difficult to maintain for the bonus effects.
If you are using Mace/Axe it wouldn’t be much of an issue between the auto attack and mace two, which has a really low cooldown. You could also use weapon sigils for even more condition variety.
He probably doesn’t play revenant and now that Mallyx can’t fight back against conditions is loving the idea of steamrolling us.
I did play revenant, a lot, actually. And conditions are a joke in mallyx as long as you take demonic defiance. The elite consumed too much energy to really be useful anyways, I felt, and unyielding anguish was simply a skill to troll people with but never actually put out enough pressure. Now UA is a great skill, especially against d/d eles. Sure the condi copying nerf did hurt a bit but mallyx is still very strong against conditions because of the crazy amounts of resistance it can apply.
It wasn’t just to troll people it was great for preventing stomps on teammates while reviving them as well as landing clutch decaps in PvP.
As posted in the BWE2 changes post, if they have to get rid of displacement at lead put KB/Fear on landing otherwise cd/cost is HIGHLY unjustified
Can’t say that enough. The skill really needs one or the other.
Displacement nerf is necessary in PvP, but the CD is definitely not.
Yes, the displacement effect was an issue but don’t you think it could have been replaced with a knock back or a fear? This way it could keep it’s usefulness as a utility.
I just hope it will be reasonable to get.
some people have said they want it to be a WvW tournament reward (or a PvP reward), to which I think I speak for all PvE revs when I say OH JESUS CHRIST NO!
this is THE revenant armor, the one that all the revenants in the concept art, and even the skill training art, use. it would SUCK to lock something so tied to the class’s identity behind a game mode that hasn’t been available for over a year now.
the revenant weapons are already looking to be black lion ticket exclusives (look through the bars in the back room of the black lion HQ, you can see a revenant bow), don’t make these a pain to access too
I think the revenant should just start with the armor skin as well as the weapon skin for which ever weapon you start with. Then make the rest of the weapon skins come from level up rewards. If anything make the armor come from level up rewards as well.
This is a simple way to ensure that all players regardless of what game mode they play will be able to obtain the skins.
The nerfs to Mallyx seem unreasonably harsh. UA was so apocalyptically overpowered that I can see why it had to take a hit, but the proposed change seems nigh useless. Perhaps it could instead be something like ‘inflict fear on foes where you land and create a field that torments foes that enter or leave its area’ and have it inflict more torment on entering than leaving so it can still attempt to force people out of its area with an effect that has much higher counterplay and at least strongly discourage people from trying to get back in.
EtD basically just lost its condi copying and got nothing in return. It needs something new for sure.
I agree, some type of fear or knock back to get people out of the circle would salvage the ability.
EtD without copying conditions is definitely not worth the upkeep cost.
Champion Anything-But-Ritualist.
I want Ritualist to be a future specialization.
Reaper is a title and will now also be a specialization.
With this change we might as well have the heal on Mallyx clear all your conditions after you use them for the extra heals.
If we don’t get the ability to copy conditions back then the upkeep should cost less. It doesn’t seem worth using otherwise.
This skill used to be completely useless and was simply just annoying but added no other benefit. Now it’s amazing. Mallyx is even better than before, and no this is not a troll post. Completely disagree with OP.
Do you PvP, Photinous? It was really good for reviving team mates as well as forcing clutch decaps in sPvP.
Legendary Demon Stance
In this stance we had a bit of a bigger change happen. Demon Stance was in an awkward place because it was mechanically cool when you looked at it in a vacuum, but when you were put around other players there was this point of tension which was created. When using demon stance you wanted to manage your conditions and try to keep certain amounts on yourself to empower your skills.Though, allies directly impacted this play style. While you were around allies, especially players running support, it created tension and frustration between the two players. You wouldn’t want to be near these other players that removed conditions from you as it weakened your skills. This isn’t a tension or frustration that we wanted to create between allies so I moved this stance away from focusing on scaling effectiveness based on your personal conditions. As such, the self-conditions didn’t make sense anymore as you had less reason to utilize these so they were removed. Similar to Forceful Displacement, the displace was removed on unyielding anguish and the skill was re-designed a bit.
- Empowering Misery: Removed the self-applied weakness. Increased the base heal by 40% and decreased the heal per condition by 40%.
- Pain Absorption. Removed the self-applied blind.
- Banish Enchantment: Removed the self-applied vulnerability. This skill now applies 3 stacks of confusion for 6 seconds instead of being dependent on the conditions you have on you.
- Unyielding Anguish: This skill has been re-worked. This skill will now leap to the target location creating a dark field which chills for 1 second and torments for 4 seconds per pulse. The field lasts for 4 seconds and pulses every 1 second. Added a 10 second recharge.
- Embrace the Darkness: Removed the self-applied torment. This skill no longer copies conditions to nearby foes. This skill will increase stats by 10% while active and pulse 6 seconds of torment every 1 second to nearby foes.
Legendary Dwarf Stance
A lot of you thought Forced Engagement was too high of a cost for a single target control skill, and I agree! But, I can’t allow you to use it back to back or else it creates bad chain controlling situations so there is an added recharge as well.
- Forced Engagement: Increased the recharge from 3 seconds to 5 seconds and lowered the energy cost from 50 to 35.
Corruption
In the corruption specialization, there were a few traits which needed some tweaks in power to be competitive options. As an example revenant did not have many options to apply poison, but had the trait Venom Enhancement which increased poison duration so I thought it made sense to also apply poison itself.
- Pulsating Pestilence: Increased the trigger chance from 15% to 25%.
- Replenishing Despair: Increased the base heal by 300% and added a 1 second internal cool-down.
- Venom Enhancement: This trait will now apply poison for 5 seconds with a 20 second recharge when you apply torment as well as increasing poison duration.
Retribution
In the master tier for this line there were two traits based around incoming control effects, which made little sense and ended up fighting with each other. I went ahead and merged these two traits together creating room for a new trait which I added as the master tier needed a trait to help support the tank feel of retribution.
- Eye for an Eye: The Redeeming Protection trait has been merged with this one. When Eye for an Eye triggers, you will also gain protection for 5 seconds.
- Redeeming Protection: This trait has been merged with Eye for an Eye.
- Dwarven Battle Training: This is a new master tier trait replacing redeeming protection. This trait provides a 25% chance on hit to weaken foes for 4 seconds with a 10 second recharge and decreases weakness’s effectiveness on you by 50%.
I really think Unyielding Anguish should have some form of CC with it. Remove the chill and make it an AoE knock back or make it work like Necro staff five and apply fear when people walk on it. I think at the very least Embrace the Darkness should still copy conditions since you can still take conditions from your allies.
I like the change to Forced Engagement but I think inspire reinforcement needs to instantly apply stability and pulse two seconds of stability.
The Rest of the changes are great, Roy! I am really happy to see that so much attention is being given to our feedback.
I definitely think Rev would benefit from a ranged condition based weapon. Scepter, long bow, short bow, rifle or axe main hand all sound like good ideas to me. Could also use the mesmers ranged great sword animations and use it as a ranged condition weapon.
Right now I am running a Carrion Mallyx build Mace/Axe with Hammer on weapon swap since it is the only ranged weapon we have. I do like the utility that the hammer provides with the projectile block, the blast finishers and the life steal from auto attacking through hammer four.
I think it wold be nice to be given one of the bows as a ranged condition based weapon. I would prefer the long bow though, I would like to have 1200 range.

The change to Vengeful Hammers was a great step in the right direction. I think the upkeep might need to be lowered a bit or the healing could go up.
I think the elite needs to be instant cast.
I think that inspiring reinforcements should provide two seconds of stability as soon as you cast it as well as it should pulse two to three seconds of stability.
I think forced engagement should either be a pull or give you retaliation. I think the energy cost of the spell should definitely go down.
The heal is fine for the most part. The only change I would suggest would be to make the resistance it provides last longer.
I am thinking resistance and regeneration on a heal skill with ten second internal cool down . The other set bonus would give you fury and three stacks of might on a thirty second internal cool down. The numbers could change but I think the idea would fit well with the profession.
