That business model sounds like my workplace
But make no mistake. If you didn’t make your Gold from the Queen’s Gauntlet, or Champion farming, you’ll be left behind in terms of wealth. That’s why it’ll be interesting to see how Anet responds to this.
This is incredibly hyperbolous. In the last week, the median player earned less than 3 gold in the new content (that’s discounting all players who earned less than 1 gold).
I think that just reinforces the point made. The median player earned less then 3 gold but many others have made hundreds by farming the pavilion and other champions.
I don’t think you understand what median means.
I have ALWAYS had issues seeing boss ‘wind up’ animations before big attacks. Especially with the burning animation effect stacked on the boss by Guardians or Elementalists.
Please give us a slider or a way to tone that down so I can better see (and not guess) when to dodge!
how did you start the client -nosound?
terminal? I’m not following that step
Just think as the “play now” button as a “duel now” button
Because “duels” on a PVP map are stupid as a little kitten, I just mow down the duelers and cap points. I’ll win the match, leave the server and join another one, hopefully with competitive players and not immature size-measuring slogs.
Engis are close to eles in strength right now but their fix is much simpler in my opinion, just reduce hgh stacks duration and then re-evaluate their strength. Honestly I’m surprised that there is minimal qq about engis considering how powerful they are at the moment.
And those of us playing that build continue to think about making threads like “It’s time to nerf Thieves” but we don’t. Yet, we’re all thinking it. Same old QQ.

I think most soulbound items should actually be account bound. Why should I not be able to use an expensive weapon on any of my characters?
As for the OP’s idea, I would support the removal of soul-binding, if there was a way to make sure that only the person that created the account could un-bind an item.
Account-Bound. I agree. There’s a lot of grindy-ness in having to do a lot of things many times. I won’t argue with exploration and story, etc. But why can’t my two characters exist in the world such that one gives something to another? It’s like how the bank works now anyway. Character A runs Arah, then gives tokens to Character B.
Character B runs FOTM, gets an exotic weapon, but oh, soulbound! Can’t give it to Character A whose profession could use it. Fail.
Same comment on WvW Siege blueprints. They’re items. There exist tricks now anyway to trade ownership among characters, but wouldn’t it make more sense to just let it be account-bound?
“That Skill is still recharging”
Okay, the problem here is not that people won’t want Exotics because Ascended is better. That’s a given. There’s no way to fix that people will want better gear.
The PROBLEM here is that crafting in GW2 is unprofitable and unessential. In FF11, you could craft +1 or +2 quality items, even +3. These items would have more stats than their normal counterparts, such as in GW2 you have masterwork, fine etc. However, in FF11, some ubercrafted items by master craftsmen were better than boss drops. Also, you could make a killing if you were a master craftsman tiering up components or finished goods. In GW2, we have the Mystic Toilet and NPC vendors to buy those things from. Until crafting gives a reasonable reward, I’ll keep ignoring it in GW2. I’ll keep running FOTM for the best gear. And I’ll keep selling off the drops for gold.
I ignore magic find. I get better drops without it. Could just be luck, RNG has always been strong with me. No benefits seen here.
It really bothers me that I charge into battle while shouting retreat.
Incoming, however, is versatile to more meanings. One as in, “get the hell out of there”, or “watch out for that attack!”
If anything, Retreat should be a shout skill for Rangers to be used a survivability pet skill. but that is getting off-topic.
Only if you read it as a self/team shout. I’m telling mobs to retreat before I steamroll them!
I mean, how can you farm it, when you have to fight the SAME boss NINE times?
How is that creative? How is that fun? In any other dungeon, you have different bosses in different paths. Not in CoE. Almost half the dungeon is the same on every path, plus you have the Alpha you need to fight 9 times. kitten
And from a lore perspective, you fight in an inquest base. Those suckers are inventors and scientists. They could invent anything. Even if u would fight a robot elephant it wouldn’t be out if place, because thats what they do… experiment and invent. Hell, you could fight a giant snail with legs or any other stupid thing. Why the same boss 9 times?
And its a dam pity, because on path 3, that cannon fight its really nice. Its something different from all the other simple mechanics.
I’m actually happy I dont like any armor or weapon from this dungeon, because farming this would be impossible for me.
I love CoE, and you lost me at “how can you farm it”.
5 times you are booted? Sometimes the results are a cause of a symptom that you don’t correctly diagnose…
not at all how about because i play everday and 5 times for getting GREIFED not booted is not a lot.
GREIFED : MEANS YOU GET BOOTED FOR SOMTHING AT THE END OF THE 3RD FRACTAL, USUALLY WHEN YOU HAVNT DONE ANYTHING WRONG.
every time ive been griefed its because i stuck up for a noob, stuck up for myself or when i went afk for 3 minutes because my kid fell down the stairs, and not i didnt get kicked when i came back from my kid i got kicked an hour later at the end.
Okay man, just from your posts in this thread it seems like you aren’t the calm cool-headed type. That might be a factor in the way you were treated. Just saying. Also, caps lock and spelling – like a pro. I’ve gotten 20 levels of fractal done with pick up groups and never once been kicked for any reason or had to kick anyone else for any reason. I’ve had some strong-willed people who won’t listen to directions. We didn’t kick them, we threatened that if they continued to act on their own instead of being part of the team, then they can resurrect themselves and not rely on the team either. Usually this straightens people out fast. If not, then they’re left dead and the rest of us move on. I’ve done fractals with guild too, and that is pretty no-drama. You should consider these things and have no issues too.
Gotta say Spectral, FOTM is the best thing they’ve done recently, ANET. It has a skill entry price that ensures at higher levels, you get a competitive, challenging experience. Most of the time, anyway.

mounts = this game is for kids only.
let’s not do that. it was one of the worst things in ffxi.
on the otherhand, making travel (such as the ship to southsun cove) actual events would be nice. right now it seems like a teleport ship. =\ such actual-travel should contain content and maybe occasional enemies to keep you from afk.
I will quit this game immediately if mounts are introduced. Anything that "wow"s it up.
I run P/P with Elixir U and B. I throw grenades or bombs on slot 9 as needed. Hounds (human) on 10. For Jade, I switch 9 to Flamethrower.
Basic style is burn everything down with pistol quickness and stack up the pain. Switch to grenades for crowd control at a distance or bombs for short range and to keep mobs away from defense points. Glue shot on mobs you want to stay in place.
My armor is full up knight’s stats, power precision toughness. my accessories are valkryie for additional vit. I’m pretty indestructible in reasonable situations. Switch out rings for agony resist as you get the loot. That’s about it, it’s really straightforward.
Sticky this thread Devs and work on it. Seriously. ANet fix some of this stuff.
Former player of FF11 (I was an early adopter and a top-tier Japanese guild leader hitting the highest level content), GW1, now GW2. As far as MMO anyway.
My take on GW2 is that the non-instanced world is an improvement, Dynamic Events are improvements. Dungeons could use a major revamp for scale, difficulty, and variety of mechanics. Skills as well. Team coordination. In FF11, you also had team combos but the effects were massively pronounced. You were required to hit the right combo order and element type to essentially damage enemies. You also had a real incentive not to die. Every time you died, you lost about 10% of your XP.
Immediately, a timer would start counting down 1 hour in which your friends could resurrect you, giving you some of that exp back. That made for some GREAT rescue missions. If losing XP caused you to go below your level requirement, you level DOWN. If that meant your gear is now too high a level, you can’t wear it until you level back up! Difficult and fun. Made you care about staying alive.
In GW2 I feel it’s more like spam all your skills to burst down enemies with a few exceptions where coordination matters. Crafting in GW2 could use a major revamp too. In FF1, a lot of characters just crafted. No fighting. It was a valid way to play the game – you could make money, you could be valuable to your guild, you could be key to some raid strategies.
Lack of job types is kind of hit/miss in GW2. Some mechanics are really lacking, and it takes away from team coordination requirements. But on the other hand, you don’t need to rely on certain job types to find for a party.
Events like the Lost Shores are really where GW2 shines. That is what the game experience should be like – dynamic, fast paced, difficult – but rewarding. It seems that for people complaining about team coordination, ANet has implemented more of the “hit the 3 switches all within 3 seconds” mechanic which is not at all the same as a coordinated battle plan. Or merging the two. more use of the environment would help, also events and mobs that are only at night, only during the day, etc.
FFXI really built that up with an in-game “week” where during certain “day” cycles there were benefits to crafting, to healing, to fighting, etc.
In short, I like GW2 for a free-to-play game, but miss some of the features FFXI got right. GW1 was fun as well, but has similar drawbacks.

Pistol Pistol[Grenade/Bomb/Flame] as necessary. Cleaning 409, Elixer U and B. I’ve had no problems and rarely die. Dodge the agony attacks, and you’re golden. Kite and use skill 5 for certain boss mechanics. Love engineer in fractals because of versatility to adapt.
Got a ring at lv12. There’s no big secret. The agony attacks are almost all dodgeable. If that’s Shadowlancer’s hush hush then it’s a lol one.
Toon is easiest to say and easiest to type.
The path of least resistance has appealed to lesser mortals since the dawn of history. Just saying.
You get a daily chest (blinking in the right bottom corner of your screen) for finishing Jade Maw on even numbered levels.
Thanks, that’s what I thought you all were referring to. The bonus chest, not a daily fractals achievement chest.
There’s already a way for people who aren’t running to make it easier for the runners that is 100% profession independent.
Run in front of them and trip the traps so it doesn’t hit people who are carrying wisps.
Then you use some condition removal and stun breaks to get out of cripple/immobilize/knockdown and keep going. Every single profession in the game has some of these.
This is pretty much the way I do it.
Whoever gets the hardest two wisp locations will get an assistant to kill off/aggro mobs and dump buffs on the runner to help them. There’s really nothing to it, IF you can strategize. Just don’t forget to switch your stun break/ condition skills back to normal for the rest of the fractal.
What’s really fun is to see the evolution of each fractal as the difficulty increases. The Uncategorized Fractal is so easy at level 1, you can ignore the harpies. You can wipe the floor with them too. Later on, the knockback is a real factor to contend with.

Stupid question, but what are you guys referring to as “daily”?
The problem with skipping is that some people skip the wrong things. I prefer to clear, but some fights are reasonably skippable. Others are not. Such as the ones where if you die, you respawn right in the middle of mobs. Can’t win that way, and skipping it ends up costing you much more than killing those 3-5 mobs would have.
TLDR, bad skip is bad.
That’s not the only lava. The pools at the end boss also count. You can’t get burned by them either.
I’m not allowed to discuss = “I’m b s ing you guys.”
It’s not group based AFAIK. If you really need it, just carefully make your way to the wisps as really only 3-4 people are needed for the trap part.
I design them on paper, present them in a meeting to some other designers, make adjustments to them based on feedback, build/script it, play it, get feedback on it, adjust based on feedback rinse/repeat until it ships.
Other times someone else builds it based on the designs, but we work together on reacting to feedback and hooking it up in the game. The meeting about the dolphin section garnered a lot of laughs when I presented it. To be honest I came up with the idea at home after a Rum-and-coke. It got people excited in the meeting, which made it a fun design to work on and get feedback for.
Okay so really, why the sink mechanic?
Isn’t it enough that you can be 2-3 hit as a dolphin and can’t fight back? Why lock our controls for 2 seconds?
Moreover, the sea scorpion thing.. it doesn’t work. It barely distracts them at best, and at worst it actually makes the kraits aggro you.
That’s the point. You’re supposed to read the control tooltips. As a dolphin, you drop anti-krait defenses (think anti-air). You don’t fight, you run. You just run and pop distracting skills. That’s the point.
RE: Swamp: It’s either the easiest or the hardest, and that depends on the coordination of your group. A good team who communicates, and all set up for condition removal and swiftness, mesmer teleport even (though not at all necessary) makes it cake. People who don’t work together, or don’t pay attention to the traps and the mobs, make that one hell.
2h legendaries should require more materials to make, or make 1h legendaries require less. Doesn’t make much sense that a small dagger needs as much materials to make as a 2h, when you most likely will want 2 of those daggers.
You could easily take the word legendary out of this post and it would still be a valid point regarding weapons. I’d also be comfortable with replacing “materials to make” with “cost.”
Thank you voice of reason. Those of you saying “no it’s fine the way it is” are probably already happy with what you have and want to keep the distribution low. Understandable, but the system is broken, not fair.
It should be very hard to get, but it shouldn’t be twice as hard to rig up something for 1h. This punishes 1h users. Probably why everyone wants a kitten greatsword
EDIT: Ilya & Lyss are what prompted this thread. Obviously some thought went into making a weapon “pair”. They’re not legendary though. Should I seriously spend the time and effort to get those two, at over 100g a piece, for them not to scale with the game like the legendaries do? It’s simpler to just get chaos gun and skin it onto something you use and cheaper too. Sadly, that won’t scale either. But AT LEAST it costs half as much, for now.
This is very, very important now more than ever as it ruins map chat with LFG posts being even more frequent than the gold seller spam.
It’s not the same as a huge two handed greatsword. If you put in the massive effort to get one pistol of a “set” of items, then it shouldn’t be much harder to get the other one. Even if it’s just the precursor and some Gift items. Shouldn’t take another million karma and 100 gold to get the offhand. IMO, the idea is that the two together would make up one legendary pair of weapons that are intended to be used together. Still lots of work to get, but not TWICE as much as a two-handed weapon. That is the huge turn off for 1H legendaries.
ANet: You’ve given some classes (especially Engineer) the ability to dual wield pistols. There are at least 3 possible Legendary greatswords, and just one pistol. You can’t wield but one twohanded weapon at a time.
I’m going to say right now that there is zero chance of me investing the time to get Quip. A confetti entertainment gun? No. Not happening. I think I’m in the majority on that too.
What would change my mind is a SET of PAIRED guns with Legendary status and of course, the awesome skins to go with it. If they must be separate items then halve the cost so they can be both obtained, or make it so that once you obtain 1, the second is easy.
toons bugs me too. almost as much as the more proper name, avatar (thanks to one ultra-kitteny movie).
characters. maybe i’m just a traditionalist with a literary background.
my team got half way through this path the other night.
boss 1:
mesmer runs as far as possible toward the boss, drops portal at boss platform, then runs back without getting aggro (have to beat the first wave!). everyone waits for the right timing, and then port to the boss and burn it down asap.
thief then invis the whole party, and run through the waves of minions past the second boss to the rear door. burn through the barriers on the way but attack no other mobs.
fight second boss from behind spawns…
it can’t possibly be intended to be like that. it’s harder than other dungeons just because of this!
Thanks. It seems that for my machine, the only real bottleneck is the onboard gfx card. I can expand the ram to 10GB for $30 but doubt it will have any effect.
Will GW2 run on this? Low Mid High settings? Or should I just forget it?
core i7, 4gb ram, 128gb ssd, intel hd 4000 graphics
underwater is cake.
then again, I am an Engineer and we are OP underwater. Sadly, not so much on land. Though I have learned to ignore turrets and mortars and it’s been good since that.
I also recently started a thread about this. It was such a disappointing fight. If you could call it a fight.
Legendary only, or are there some others?
Two questions:
1. On Gw2db there are some weapons that aren’t on the TP. I assume they exist but have not been found/crafted? Example, Ebon Vanguard Pistol?
2. Besides the gem store, is there any way to get fine transmutation stones?
Increase it again and again. GW1 suffered for maxing out at 20.
FFXI got this right.
Easily the most interesting and fun character in Personal Story. Best NPC of GW2.
These griefers should grow up and just do like I do:
I have less than zero interest in holiday events. It’s not what I signed up for, and feels more like an intrusion of our world with all its bs into Tyria than anything else.
So I just avoid LA like the plague until it’s over. Can’t see why these masochists want to stand around LA pissing people off.
mine are fairly boring, “Cinaedh” (a kittenized version of the original spelling of my given name), and “Nameless Power”
Uh Vasham, it is that way though? Or didn’t you just spam “2” until the denouement?
The various ‘stages’ were definitely awesome by comparison to other dungeons or personal story quests. But the bosses went down so fast, it makes you wonder how this enemy could really be such an infamous threat to Tyria.
I’m not going to give away any spoilers in this first post, but I want to see if there are so many others out there who feel this way.
Arah is way too easy! After running the punishing gauntlet of the previous dungeons, finally the last one and it’s… cake! Especially the final battle which felt like such a massive letdown. =\
