I don’t agree that the third floor is anti-social. If anything, it encourages commanders such as myself, to revive everyone, and leave no one behind. The third floor pretty much demands that players work together, and move as a group. That’s a good thing. If people leave players behind, then that’s simply a poor strategy on their part.
This, with a side of if you’re lagging behind and keep dying multiple times because you’re incapable of saving your rolls or speed boost for mines, don’t expect many people to stop and help you in the middle of a minefield.
Lose character and all items on death? What? I am pretty casual myself I only play 2-3 times a week give or take and maybe if I have a free day off I will get on, sometimes I won’t get on for weeks at a time. I have no problem with rushing to the end, the 3rd level is actually a challenge to rush. I can casually run through the 1st and 2nd floor picking flowers while gazing at rainbows and still make it to the end.
The flipside is I have done a few floors by just fighting through with a few random people near me so I can understand if that’s what you want to do but after running up and down this tower multiple times sometimes it’s more fun to rush, straight through the chaos.
For me it’s culling, and how easy it is to take forts/how useless people become when siege is involved.
But mainly culling.
An thieves.
An mesmers.
I don’t like playing cat and house.
Oh yeah I found this on the forums a few months ago, I forget who posted it. I don’t claim it as mine, just that I think it’s relevant.

God kitten Nova. Now I feel like a complete kitten .. I’m sorry.
Lol np, it happens. Can be hard to tell the ‘tone’ of text some times :P
@Clorox Sour.5142
My figures and examples were including big WvW fights, so i would say what ur getting coincides with what i was saying about cpu’s.
All stock cpu’s (intel & amd) will get sub 30 fps and likely sub 20 fps in big WvW battles, all AMD cpu’s even OC’d will have sub 30 fps in WvW but may be able to stay above 20 if its one of the better cpu’s like for example a FX 8350.
I understand but anywhere besides a big wvw zerg I am averaging 20-40fps, of course it varies from areas but it’s still not a bad cpu is what i’m saying, though the 8350 may perform a bit better and net a 5-10fps increase, it’s not a big step. I can clock this up to 4.5ghz and it’s stable but even then it’s only like, 3-4 fps increase according to gw2. So that’s also not worth it.
I guess what I was trying to say originally was even a fx4100 will perform will without worry, 15-20fps in wvw is easily manageable and understandable given that it’s the gw2 client. If OP has an AM3+ mobo a cheap upgrade to even an fx4100 will work to stop fps issues.
The thing with phenoms/BD/PD is clock speed, amd’s are notorious for higher performance gains with higher clocks than intel cpus.
EDIT: I also run a 6850 as OP

I’d like it so different weapons have certain skillsets. Of course balanced but.. different skills, utilities, condition or no condition for the wep.
Like, your starter sword has all the regular skills, but you find a named rare/exotic sword, different skills.
Or just let us change them like GW1, that always works too.
CPU bottleneck.
Depending on what u consider playable fps u will have to have ether of the following cpu setups.
30+fps al lthe time = 3570k + OC to near 4.5ghz
15/20+ fps all the time = 3570k Stock. The only amd that can compare is the FX 8350 which even with a OC would probably net you 20+ fps all the time.
Kirito’s link 100% correct so best to just read that
Not true. I have an fx4100 at 3.9ghz and I never go under 20fps on max, maybe in wvw i will dip down to 12-20fps but that’s in a big zerg/fort fight.
@OP, that’s just gw2 for you, my buddy has the same cpu as you and has the same issues.
True turning off reflections/shadows and see how that works. I usually turn both of them off anyways because oclusion is craptastic atm and shadows load so close to you, even on ultra, it bothers me a lot to see it.
We do need this. Even though it would probably be tied to the traits npc and cost us more silver to swap to a saved build, given the current reputation anet is building with adding a cost to do anything.
It would be good to just pay the swap price and switch your skills/traits all at once.
Gratz. I share the feelings, I made my Kudzu in ~800h of normal play, just for fun – no grind/farm. It’s annoying to see all those – I don’t even know how to call them – who think you need to cheat or sth for it.
Hmm 1350 hours in 4 months, that’s over 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day.
That’s what I’ll think now every time I see somebody with a legendary.
Notice when you are afking it’s still counting your time.
10-15+g a day on a daily basis just doing “regular things like dungeons and events” is a lot of time spent daily doing things.
I have a 6850 from sapphire and it runs gw2 just fine, even on max settings bar reflections off. The only problem is reflections from full to off give me a 15~fps difference and oclusion culling goes apekitten with reflections on and causes frame lag when turning the camera. But that could also not be attributed to just the gpu.
EDIT: also what Nitro said about shaders, an older card from the 2xx gen will have a harder time keeping up shaders.
More variety in weapons-most notably first five skills. Another batch of weapon types should only come in Xpacks-GW1 style.
Fix broken Traits and rearrange them-there are some broken Traits(still) and some LOL powerful are in Adept tier and some WUT? weak are in Grandmaster tier. Fix that.
Better writing. I don’t care really what you have to do for it. Stop using some MMO “story” writers and buy Real ones! Hire Dan Abnett or Graham McNeill or Gav Thorpe(all veterans of Warhammer and they write REAL nice!) kitten I want more adult themes(forget sex), what I mean by that is more choices that leave REAL impact and more Real behaviour of characters. And NO MORE Trahearne Deus Ex Machinimas please! Gosh darn it Trahearne sucks!
Edit: Also it’s a kitten shame that Besides GW core, GW2 features a Nexon core. That second thing should be drenched in H2SO4 and burned with White Napalm lol, Cuz it’s Hardcore diarrhea and I’d rather that Camel kittenall over me than let my beloved game be infected by such trash! Eh what can I say? Nexon SUCKS, but that is common gamer Knowledge anyhow. That Nexon core scares the kitten out of me…
These are a lot of what I agree with… also with the game feeling very dull, there’s no real incentive. In GW1 you WANTED different weapons and armor, in GW2 it’s like…. the drive is just gone.
One thing I think they CAN change and should is fixing traits and making traits be much bigger an impact than changing armor. Also, add more skills. On top of that… what I originally expected.. different weapon skills for different weapons… like, sure this staff and skill X and Y, but if I find this rare or exotic staff, it has skills H and K.
Right now the main focus in the game is anet throwing dungeons and armor sets in our faces and locking down our skillbar like a super max prison. Then telling us to explore and enjoy the sights to enjoy the game – because that’s what we totally want to do. Granted the visuals are pretty great, but the sense of… exploration, and finding things hidden.. it feels gone.
As someone said in this thread… the game is very shallow compared to GW1.
Sounds like an occlusion culling problem, or possibly textures are too big for the pipeline on your 560, or it’s shot itself.
I would try turning down just the textures and shaders and see if that makes a difference when you turn your camera.
Changes to graphic drivers won’t take this game very far, as most say and know, we are limited by our cpu. The only problem is the amount of cpu power required to play on max with frames above 30 constantly, well exceeds practical assumptions based on the age of the engine.
I always loose my mouse cursor when there’s a lot of crap flying across my screen. It blends in.
Guildwars 1: Eternal Dragon.
Guildwars 2: Fireworks show.
I had a few run ins last night.. there was one of these thieves in the jp on TC. For like 30 minutes it would come, dance around, be visible for 2-3 seconds, then go invisible for another 3-5 seconds while it ran around and reappeared again. Sure, they can’t really kill you like this very fast, but it’s almost impossible to kill them. By the time you move your pointer or tab to target them, and hit a skill, they are disappearing again.
I was fighting one of thief for like 10 minutes outside of anz, couldn’t kill me, but couldn’t kill it, just kept going invisible after 2-3 second of being visible. Really annoying.
see, confirmed. people will complain and cry OP whether the thief kills someone in one hit. . .or a thousand hits. people just wanna cry
Confirmed what? The fact that culling gives thieves an extra 2~ seconds of stealth? We should be okay with this? Stealth should be an initiation and sometimes an escape, not a dance around 5 enemies in and out of stealth for 10 minutes while the second people target and that casting bar starts the thief is already re-stealthing.

My biggest thing is all the stealthing. It’s one thing to combat someone you can see, it’s another to combat someone who disappears every 4-5 seconds and turns up somewhere else. It’s a pretty big annoyance to me. This is why I think bleeds or poison should break stealth or prevent it.
Stealth should be a means to initiate a fight or escape one if possible… not what we have now.
I got it first try. It’s jut like tower defense.
Not recommending Massively as a source, but I thought their selection and piece on GW2 was well done. Especially in the context of today’s article on what GW2 got wrong. They gave it a well qualified praise, which it is due. I liked the way the piece ended:
“So consider this a reality check. It’s not the apex of game design; it’s a game, one that aims high and hits a respectable number of marks but also one that has some issues it could really work on hammering out over the next year.
Or we could keep going with Ascended gear. That went over real nice."
It was a pretty good article about the state of the game. That’s usually what I look for in game articles. Someone telling you how it is from their point of view, or a majorities complaint, but also letting you know it’s still a good game, it just needs a bit of work with things it falls short on.
It’s funny, because right now in LA on TC(One of the biggest pve servers?) it’s pretty dead and most people are afk, or not shouting in map, or being social at all, which gives the appearance of a dead city. Even the culling cuts issues cut down on it when every 5 feet I take people appear and disappear. Yet the overflows for LA are as lively as ever.
If you are going into overflow servers, it means there are so many people inside that area that the game had to create an overflow. Which means, if the LA overflow is lively, the “real” LA in your server has at least as many players inside of it as the overflow.
Thus, if those players within your server’s LA are not talking or socializing… It’s simply because they don’t want to, not because they are not there. Would you rather force those players to socialize, even if they don’t want to?
Not everyone is afk, yes. But when I can sit in my home servers LA for 30 minutes going about my own business, guild chat, TPing, crafting, what have you. Not a single LFG or people speaking in map chat? Given it was around 6pm PST, I think there is something wrong.
A sense of community, yes it definitely missing.
I see no reason to really be social at all in this game so far. I see another dude, we finish a event, we go our seperate ways, yeah, but beyond that, the game seems very single-playerish.
That’s exactly how I feel. Lack of community and socializing in a lot of players. I can do whole Fractals without even a peep from anyone in my party. Sure the game might require us to move a lot, but it’s honestly not that hard, I spam guild chat all night and play just fine without dying.
GW2 is certainly not an MMO for MMO player.
It’s a MMO for people who don’t like MMOs. Which is GW2’s main appeal and its biggest strength.
Then why do a lot of us GW1 players find it stale? There certainly is something missing. One of the biggest I can think of right now is the players segregated across servers. Sure, there’s overflows, but why can’t we have the option of CHOOSING to go into an overflow as opposed to a dead servers zone? Also, I’m pretty sure it would be easy for them to change how nodes respawn. The timer’s already character bound is it not? How hard would it be to mesh all the timers into one for all the overflows/home server?

I think, what we need, is districts, like GW1. WvWvW could still certainly operate by laying claim to a home server or home region of choice. Same as GW1 where you fight for the kurz or lux in AB. With that in mind WvWvW would be fine as server transfers are still once a week or every 7 days, however it works.

I only trust Kotaku or Gamesradar, and even then, game reviews are only opinions.
If I was to get a mobo for the A10 I’d get this.
Considering 140$ on a mobo isn’t too much, I have an Asus M5A99X EVO and the bios and clocking functions on this thing are ridiculous.
(edited by Clorox Sour.5142)
I run a 4100 at 3.9ghz and it runs gw2 just fine, even in wvw I only get down to 20~fps in huge zergs/fort fights. The only thing is reflections take a huge dump on me. But that happens to a lot of people, I don’t mind playing with them off.
Either of those processors wold be good for GW2. Though the A10 might be a better bang simply because if your graphics card dies out you got something to hold you over.
I think what we should do is have a rally. Everyone head to Anet headquarters. When we get there, it’s gonna go down like this…. First we Ursan Force up.. just charge right at the building and activate Ursan Rage, make it crumble down, down to da ground. When the employees start funneling out of the building in distress we start Ursan striking the crap out of them until we see the hardmode area cleared sign flash in the sky.
If someone survives that Ursan change… okay, maybe I will give them another chance. They still owe me for nerfing my griffons in the Crystal Desert………..
It’s ok. I logged in to spvp and then I was kind of put off by all the match servers being empty.
Oh yeah. That zone exists.
Megido is right, I’m running an FX4100 at 3.9ghz in large zergs in wvw I only dip down to 20~fps and that’s on max settings with reflections off.
I run an HD6850 and it runs perfectly fine on max, but I also don’t know the rest of your system, but for the price this card will get the job done.
I have to admit, there was something in gw1 that’s missing in this game. The feeling of walking through pre-searing Ascalon, escaping a pack of Charr, fighting the Stone Summit, getting betrayed by the White Mantle… I miss those feels.
I agree here.. the feels.. they’re gone. gw1 had soooo much going for it, even after we completed it, most of us happily made a new class and beat it 5-6 more times, and farmed the 15k armor for style. gw2 is just… a mess. a mess they refuse to accept. The story is crap, the way it advances too fast to the lame cutscenes of talking. I will always be around, it’s guild wars, but guild wars 2 just does not get my love. I remember when they brought Sorrows Furnace into gw1, people LOVED IT. The GW2 version of Sorrows Furnace is Fractals… how’s that going for you anet?
I am just going to fully ignore it. I just finished the rare → exotic transfer and it wasn’t that different. I just feel more complete. But yeah, like most things in this game i ignore(everything except friends, wvw, and standing in lions arch), i’m going to ignore it.
I don’t play that much at all anymore. Though, it isn’t the Lost Shores stuff, as much as i think the event was lame and the only good that came to me out of it was the chest after the boss. But the dynamic events there…. wow. Feels like forever when you fought the ‘reinforcements’ and we had to do it TWICE. After the first time all I was doing was watching tv and hitting 1 and tab.
I think having rares is more than enough to do fractals so long as you are not a brain dead monkey. Exotics just leave more room for mistakes. But gear is only half the battle, hell, gear/rares aren’t even a battle. learning your classes strengths and weaknesses is the battle, also coordination.
I agree with the others. Casual is not a time constraint, casual is me going about in the game slowly making my way across a map casually – instead of rushing or speeding through everything. We “casually” get stuff done as opposed to “i need to do this this and this right now”.
Were people suprise that many GW2 players are complaining about PVE Endgame?

You guys are forgetting something. Guild Wars 1 we hit 20 and then through 3 expansions we were fine with it. Hell, even with just prophecies running oro years ago was interesting and fun because everyone wanted green weapons when they came out. Dungeons in Guild Wars 2 are like 80% difficulty, 10% skill, 10% gimmick. It was completely the opposite before.
Also, yes, we have gear progression, but blues and greens are so easy to obtain they might as well not exist, rares are just as easy to get. I had a full set of gold armor/weapons/jewels for 80 before I even hit 80. The value of having no subscription is not having to rush everything, but when Anet basically throws everything at us and there’s not much to work for outside of praying to all that is holy for badge drops in wvw or doing irritating dungeons, the game hits a wall.
Now, like Guild Wars 1, I will take a break and come back every few months. The game is good, the combat is great, but it just doesn’t feel the same. Guild Wars 1 felt much more epic. I would go as far as to say a lot of the script in the story needs to be rewritten and slowed down.
I thought it was kind of obnoxious that we joined(who joined) the vigil and near after all of a sudden we’re a commander, where was the ranking up, where was the progression in the order? We go from trainee kitten boy to commander and all of a sudden people respect us? Same goes for the whole save the village crap in the first 15-20 levels. The story seems rushed. How can we go from a normal person, to a savior of a village just by stepping outside and killing off a few centaurs, which let’s be honest could have been done without us. There’s more… but I’ll stop there.
Also, INVISIBLE ARMIES. The only thing I have wanted to do for weeks, wvw, is a LOT less fun when I can’t see people running around.
You guys see, to forget the fact of individual player skill, upkeep of top servers providing lots of players around the hours, and queue times. Yeah, a few people might transfer. But the thing you zerg bears are forgetting is the fact that smaller battles. aka lower tier servers are probably more fun, from a fun standpoint, not a “lol I’m on this server so that automatically makes me one of the good players” standpoint. even if transfers cost gems, transfers will slow to a crawl, not everyone wants to just upchuck gold to transfer to the bigger zerg with a 25 minute queue time.
In the coming months things will balance out. Especially after they cut off transfers, of course they will make people aware, so they can transfer to the server they want to stay on, and after that the charts and population do the rest. Eventually things will balance out, the game’s only been out for 2~ months, and these ratings change weekly now. Give it a few months and things will be less chaotic.
I think a lot of people are forgetting the fact that even with last week’s match up, us on IoJ still put up a good fight and we never really “gave up”. We already had a few WvWvW guilds that ran around in packs. The only difference now is… we have more. One thing about us on IoJ is, sometimes we might not be as organized, but we’re still out there lookin for a fight. Even last week when SBI had nearly twice as many people in the field as us, we still put up a good fight. Hell, even BG was holding their own to an extent.
Though, I will point out, the server with the most active players/24h a day, will most likely win. But that’s not the point of this all… I personally could care less for numbers, I just want to fight and have fun. Owning the whole map and not having any zergs to challenge isn’t that fun. But, IoJ is home, and I won’t leave it. just means I actually have time to run around and explore pve areas for a change.
