Also, this is not the place to bring up guild related politics. If you have genuine concerns about how some guilds operate (and believe me, plenty of us have our gripes from time to time), its best kept to our servers forum, and not the public one.

yeah, no. i don’t do politics. that’s the whole point. if you have genuine concerns about how i choose to contribute to this conversation, take a number please.

a couple points i’d like to interject here as a player on tc almost from launch (i took a few months off to play rift, was kind of…. irked at this game company for catering wayyyy too much to the pve player for $$$.):

when our supply lines are being sabotaged in eb and w/e else to trolls or politics, i’m not ok with that. i’m going to speak my peace on the matter and if someone from a bigname wvw guild wants to “LOLUMADBRO” me about it, i’m going to say something about it and i am most likely going to hold the leadership of that guild accountable. you could argue that it’s just a game, whatever, is pro football just a game? hockey? people lose their cool all the time over that stuff and it’s considered pretty normal these days.

another point, related: when we have two groups on eb, one the “tagged” commander who takes all the pickups, and one a supposed elite guild, but split up when the other two servers are just blobbing, it doesn’t feel too swell for us, divided, to continually run or get rolled by the other two servers for the sake of satiating the AP hunters… that was lame.

myself, i did have a hand in raging at some people, cuz they didn’t seem interested in doing much but hurting our cause by not playing ball (and afking/effing around in spawn for hours).

TC moving down the ranks due to a couple guilds leaving? we’re gonna be just fine.

as an aside, we do tend to kind of roll BG in the field unless they bring a lot more heads… IJS.

Yeah that is true. Many threads only go 50% by saying what they don’t like, but they don’t always offer ways on how to improve or fix a problem. I guess that is better than nothing at least.

it’s almost pointless. the spvp forums are a prime example of this. they also speak volumes about how the crew behind gw2 came out of the gate making a bunch of noise about the value of community etcetera, when the sense of community ends up being about as shallow as the game mode.

People need to learn to give constructive criticism……….

Sadly due to most people do not I find it hard at times to identify a troll to someone that is trying to give good feedback but just does not know how. Also too many people like to argue.

and then you get people like myself who are always going to be a jerk to these devs, because it’s far too late for them to make anything right in these matters in my eyes. i didn’t play guild wars because it was another overprocessed run of the mill themepark fantasy mmo (guild wars 2 IS but it’s somewhat disguised, a joke if you ask me). i played it because it WASN’T for one thing.

Actually, no. That doesn’t explain anything about what you mean. That isn’t a good comparison because it could mean that you feel they have completely altered the game, or it could mean that they suspended your account or they could have literally bought your house and evicted you. Please be a bit more specific with your arguments so we can understand.

overambitious. the devs wanted to go from an amazingly good pvp game with appeal and options for just about any type of guild wars player, to a game with very limited appeal and options, alienating a lot of the playerbase. they pushed the esports idea – putting all their eggs in that basket – based on the success of pvp in guild wars, when it was really, really far from warranted, considering that almost nothing was the same from one game to the next.

Coffee.6394

so… i decided to leave guild wars two behind about 7-8 months back. my reasoning was that in terms of a pvp game, guild wars 2 just did not even come near cutting it compared to its predecessor. the e-sports thing, why? there has to be an actual game worth something (depth) in order to get the amount of people/resources to have an e-sport. guild wars was e-sport worthy in spades for many reasons. it was an EPIC pvp game for players of any level, once every two weeks on a sunday afternoon running about FA/JQ/AB, rounding off that pve title (lol) to those who committed a good part of their day to TA/HA/GvG, farming rank and working hard to stay on top of things and push the limits of the meta. guild wars pvp was incredibly exciting (spectate THAT!), and there was something for everyone.

just a note here. i did not list all of the pvp modes available in guild wars, just some that were high profile. each one of those had a very different set of objectives, from flat-out deathmatch to extreme strategy (and some formats had sub-maps where the objectives were different from one to the next!). epic every one. here in gw2 we have all of six maps of conquest and no real playerbase to pimp them out. OH! there’s WvW, but that’s basically conquest with a ton more people involved.

bout eight months later, i stick my head back in and i’m seeing the same problems with pvp in guild wars 2 that i did back then. we said the pvp game was/would be dead those months ago, and we were right.

so about this community y’all wanted to build…

What you propose here is supported by a tiny minority of players, and Arenanet has never hinted or suggested they’d consider anything even remotely like it.

The game wasn’t built for what you propose. It wasn’t marketed to players as the sort of game you propose. Literally no one involved in the creation of the game has ever whispered of even thinking about what you propose. And it would be a radical alteration to the game, which already has established customers.

I’m not sure if your thread is trolling, or just plain stupid.

If anyone’s trolling, presumably it’s the guy with the outlandish idea with 0% of being picked up to any degree insulting others’ intelligence.

no offense intended, mister kemp, but for the sake of argument, what is guild wars 2 intended as? it appears to me that as far as pvp is concerned, it’s intended as a mindless diversion, leave your brain at the door. the devs have proven to us that they will do exactly the opposite of what the playerbase wants time and again in this regard. personally, i myself might show up once a week or so for ~2 matches of spvp, then back to other games. it’s just meh. these forums are full of suggestions from the playerbase that continue to go unanswered. i figure i may as well add one to the heap.

the interesting part is that i’ve seen sharp post a two sentence neutral reply in a thread, with people acting like he’s the Second Coming of the Great Potato afterward. like “omg the devs actually do listen and care” when in reality he said nothing about anything, having not even read most of the posts.

putting a guild wars tag on this game is probably one of the most epic failures of mmo game developing in the last decade.

the concept that one must have something targeted actively to use a skill on it is, IMHO, responsible for much of the imbalance and lack of creativity in gameplay. it’s an obsolete, broken mechanism.

if burst classes actually had to aim their skills instead of tab target select and then start button mashing, skill-based play would come to the forefront a lot more.

that gw2 has some skills that are ground targeted is a step in the right direction, but what i have seen some action-type mmos get right (nexon games come to mind) is that there is no reason in them to have anything targeted to fire…. ever. the player has to keep in mind where a skill will land and how in order to use it effectively. i can give examples…

(vindictus, that’s me lol)

fixed targeting allows for lazy gameplay, and it’s pretty much old hat. no longer needed. not realistic or skill-based, and it takes up about 5 buttons in gw2. fffffffff why?

People, people, people. Patience.

I’m sure that right now folks are hard-at-work getting ready for the valentines’ day event, and also the easter event. sPvP will get fit in somewhere, likely be addressed sometime between the cinco-de-mayo event, and the Tyrian unity event in July. If you bought this game last August, you should have known that the focus would be largely on mini’s and mini-games for the first year or so. In the meantime, go buy some gems and get some adorable mini’s. See if you can get a mistletoe focus skin, or the giant candy-cane staff skin. Maybe go grind some ascended gear so you can be more competitive in WvW, or just wait out of the next tier of gear to be introduced sometime during the easter event to keep you grinding. Not to mention all the other wonderful adorable cutesie things coming out between now and July.

sPvP doesn’t get people buying gems. Until it does, sPvP will take a backseat role to mini’s, snowball fights, and baby quaggans.

first of all, $%@& VALENTINE’S DAY. js…

second of all, i agree that pvp in GW2 is horrid. my personal beef here is that this game was supposed to be an extension and improvement over what its precursor was.

guild wars 2 was put on the table as a concept due to the team not being able to expand upon the game they had created at that point with the limitations they had with the way that game worked. we were gonna get an ancient south-american type of campaign but instead we got guild wars 2.

compared to GW, even early GW, the PvP aspect of this game is a pretty big step back and not forward. it’s a disappointment when many had loved guild wars pvp and played the hell out of it obsessively.

in my eyes, patience only goes so far when guild wars started its decline years before this past august. that and we are getting stale bread when gw1 pvp was a 7 course meal.

i blame laziness.

Question: preview for balance patch 14/12

in PvP

Posted by: Coffee.6394

Coffee.6394

yes, the classes need rebalancing and expansion, there’s no question of that. but what is far more limiting is the format of spvp. it’s quite silly. deathmatch is about a ton more interesting than that because it leaves a lot of room for people to get creative with team builds and strats. conquest sucks because…. it doesn’t. ESPORTS HURRRDURRRDERP xD like people play PvP modes in a fantasy mmo to play football online instead of…. wait for it…. WAIT FOR IT…. playing football online!

fail. mister sharp, IF it isn’t too late for pvp in gw2, and it just may be, the game mode itself needs serious examination and modification. pvp in guild wars 2 is ok at times. but the pvp game modes presented in many other mmos are mindblowing.

How is this acceptable?

lost desire to play guildwars2 for the time being. from the time i started, i played engineer primarily because i enjoyed it, even though in pvp it was somewhat of an underdog class. i did well with it though, considering being faced with 100b wars, backstab thieves, legion mezzies etc. many one versus one fights with those types i won, and some i didn’t, but the tool that allowed me to handle that stuff was the GRENADE KIT.

so you nerfed what really did not need to be nerfed and gave us as engineers nothing worthwhile in return when the class was already struggling to be viable.

this took the wind out of my sails. i feel like i got kicked hard in the teeth by anet. suggestion? look at what is actually going on before you decide to poop on people who have been loyal to you for many years.

i have no desire to play your excuse for a GUILD WARS sequel atm. it’s not fun. i go to log in and i think, meeeehhhhhh, engi is what i was passionate about and it got shafted. my tummy turns. nty.

what? that sounds pretty good, noble and patriotic and all that kittenpoo, but explain the grenade nerf. why? what purpose does it serve for anet to nerf engineer damage on a kit set when kit damage isn’t even as high as it should be in the first place due to not being affected by weapon stats or sigils at all. engineers, unless the person playing one has actual skill at it, are pretty lackluster as a pvp class. horrible balance decision.

good riddance to the dedicated healer. i can’t count the times on fingers and toes that i got slotted as monk simply because no one else wanted to and i wanted to be nice, when the reality is that i would have made a much stronger front or midliner (in serious pvp anyway). that’s time i had to spend covering for people who cba to kite, use a defensive set, or bring self heals etc.

as far as the burst or bunker idea, that’s really only the situation because of the limits of pvp format atm.

my two cents on the current project:

we had custom servers on guild wars 1, as they are being described. they were guild hall scrims. ~sigh~ why would the community be put in a position to be made to pay for that (did the people in the office forget their mission statement)? it’s understandable that the devs wanted to make this game totally a different game, but it seems to me that they sacrificed a good deal that was solid, tried and true.

pve is epic. wvw is epic, now that things are balancing out a bit. ok, but looking at all this, i cannot help but think that the pvp players are getting all the crumbs from the table.

its basicly just playing pacman where the people are the lill points and the capture points are the big powerpills and the bosses are the fruit that spawn in the center at random times .

right now, there is very little opportunity for shifts in competitive meta, as a result of limited class mechanics and the format (conquest). winning comp seems to be: bunker/portal slave/three others (with a strong 1v1 class to run around tying up loose ends).

that’s it. how do you make a creative counter build to something that is already set as what works best?

a beautiful thing about pvp in guild wars 1 was that there was always a counter comp to any given team comp that (most of the time), did not involve mirroring the opponent’s.

tpvp is already a stale format(as far as build/comp meta is concerned).

how is this pvp format even comparable to the shadow of what pvp was in gw1? this one sucks giant swollen monkey kitten tbh.

edit: at least hotjoin is somewhat cool compared to, say, random arena because no one really gives two kittens about what someone is running. no monks + chaotic format = w/e works for ya man. that’s fun imho.

Indeed. If they don’t fix the issues in the next patch I will be finished with spvp. I am a Ranger, I can get downed by any other class easily. Warriors and Theifs 1 shot me. I decide to make a tank build, get downed in 2 seconds instead of 1. I survive but do no damage. I go glass cannon. Can’t compare to the burst and dps of other classes, get downed in a second. So literally what is my point in even trying. I can’t get points for capping or anything if I can’t get my enemys off. Or if I die so fast. I am a pointless class at the moment. So are a few others. EVERYONE plays a Mesmer, Theif, or Warrior because they can destroy most classes in seconds. I guess if this isn’t fixed I will have to reroll for pvp.

…at least you’re not an engineer.

my problem is that it’s a tremendous kitten-up on the part of the devs to have in-game currency have anything whatsoever to do with actual cash. this kind of thing wrecks game economies.

i’m not personally very comfortable with the way certain things relevant to my guild wars 2 account are tied to player cash shop economy, such as bank slots. in order for me to expand my bank, i need to use gems, but the cost of gems from in game currency keeps inflating due to fewer buying gems with cash than with gold. not too long ago an extra bank slot would have cost me half of what it would now. if this trend continues, and there is every reason to believe that it will, simple things like that will cost a great deal of coin… an encouragement for the playerbase to give more cash for gems? yuck.

guild wars has always been my favorite game. but yknow, the idea that it might be going further the way of the cash shop turns my stomach.

OP – your frustrations are understood and shared by many. however, the ranking and matchmaking system is already producing better games than it has in the past (in general, tho maybe not in every instance this go).

wvw is not meant as a balanced format. although, personally i have to agree that having zero chance to get anything accomplished with one’s servermates due to a heavy numbers disadvantage just flat out sucks kittylitter. when it’s like this, sure, it’s something to rage about. in a case like that, there isn’t much to accomplish as far as “playing” wvw.

but if not… we may as well enjoy it for what it is and use the difficulties to become better at this as a server. it’s pretty possible to out think an orb buff lol…

seems at the moment there is no easy solution. pointing fingers and raging, as good as it makes many of us feel sometimes (myself included lol), does not appear to be solving anything… as much as we may like it to xD

the entirety of the major issues being debated having to do with WvW on these
forums, all of it… from glitches and exploits to alleged shady political maneuvering by influential player groups to mechanics that seem to some to be odd or out of place… and yes, differences in time zones affecting the scoring system… all of these things boil down to balance issues. a lack of balance in WvW.

no one wants to feel like they are fighting an uphill or losing battle due to things beyond their best efforts.

it’s not those who play during a time when the majority of the servers would not be, they want to play and do their best like everyone else, and are catching grief for it. it’s not their fault, they just want to play guild wars. that is their uphill battle.

it’s not those who play primarily during the times when the server WvW populations are at peak. they, too, want to do their best like everyone else, and a score or territory deficit due to things those players have no control over gives the feeling that they did not play well/that it would take more than they have to give to stay on even footing territorially. that is their uphill battle.

i love guild wars. both of them. my sincere wish in these situations is that these things come to be reconciled. AN means to be a company based on building communities, and has done a marvelous job of it with guild wars 2 in many aspects. it’s a shame in the case of WvW that there is so much division….

pvp is, well, in mmo games at least it’s dang near always been borked. if there is some kind of advantage to be had that is somewhere, hm. outside the bounds of what would make a fun game for everyone involved, that advantage will be taken and exploited once discovered, because winning is more important in a player versus player environment than things like sportsmanship and an immersive gameplay experience.

but you never know. monkeys may fly….
