I like when we match with Dzag, they are fun to take on (win or lose). AM is another story, first day, first time seen them in a match, sooo many in a zerg. Finally I know what ppl mean by a blob!! I see they got a few good fighters while i was solo roaming their bl; but how do you tell, really, when they will not fight in smaller groups and mass up 100 v anything in EB. What a boring server to match up against.
I did not think I had done one of them at all. I may be wrong now you remind me of this. Coming on top of getting no Karma award, I think i may have jumped to it being bugged as well. Apologies if so.
Have done 3 JP tonight. Did one with 2 different toons. None have registered in the monthly JP count. Would like a fix please. I do not mind redoing them, but can you get it working again. (Also had the karma spend bug out, but seen this in a different thread.
We should make a form letter for people to fill out, because these posts always follow the same format.

Had to laugh. Had to do it. Have to say well done to you.
To be honest: I cannot give a hoot for this latest event. I am bored with chasing achievements and cannot get any enthusiasm for this. I will probably look at/do what is out in the open world as I can do that while playing normally. I will pop into the event to see if anything really catches my interest, but even the lure of “10g in 40 minutes” has not made me rush to it. Of the things offered I can say that I like the fact that it is not in LA. Temporary content, again, is too much for me. I want to enjoy a ‘living story’ but this story, since F&F, has become a race to get through mini games. I think it is time for me to concentrate on just playing my alts through areas I enjoy and levelling them to 80. I will not stop playing because I like the core GW2, but I will not stay on the AP/mini game train.
I cannot be bothered with the T3 and T4 achievements in this. I can get more loot, more money and more fun elsewhere. I got my meta on both sides and am happy to leave now to concentrate on other (main game) achievements that I need. After trying this one a few times with groups and a couple times solo..‘nah!’ time gated and tedious, not for me. I would be well upset if it was a necessity though.
Stopped using farcebook at least 2 years ago. Never signed up for twitter. Am not going to reconnect just to get updates about GW2. Anet do neglect a section of their player-base by posting solely to these sites. I read the forums, check news/updates here. It is the OFFICIAL site. It is a shame that it is not used as such.
Wonder if it will be quiet in WvW tonight after FR discovers they lost all their T3 keeps. Leadership this afternoon was exemplary.
Just had to log in and say thx to the DL guys retaking their supply camps. I might have lost both, but it has been a lot of fun, particularly at Bluevale. It does look like my poor engi is out manouvered by your ranger and necro. Got to say, great team work between you.
Again I will comment in here. The idea of the achievement being in Obsidian is one of the stupidest I have seen implemented. We just took a group into the Jp so that a couple of guys could get this achievement. I got it in the early hours one morning previously. BUT we should not have to bodyguard our PvE players so that they can get what is essentially a PvE award. I died twice to the gankers camping the entrance and by the time we finished I had added 4 or 5 kills to my PvP tally, but I do not take any pride in this. It is a minority of people using it for ‘easy’ badges, but they are an awful thing for players to face (especially as few can fight 1v1 anyway, without being permanently cloaked in stealth). I will not stop playing because of this decision. I will still do my PvE and PvP aspects of the game. Listen carefully to the next bit, Anet…I DO NOT want to do them both together. I PvP for fun in one way, I PvE to relax and enjoy this game. Please restrain from these practices.
I have now completed this dungeon,(with a pug group, and fair play to all of them for the good work). I have not enjoyed it and this is critical. After 5 days of trying for a couple hours each day, I was despairing. I had learnt the mechanics, I knew what to do, it just wasn’t working (shrug).
I reconfigured my pc earlier the day and boosted my (dual core) cpu performance by easing the loading on it. I should not really have to do this in order to succeed, but whatever. My point isn’t about how easy or how hard it is.
Anet say ‘is it fun?’ The player-base in this instance say ‘no it isn’t’. And this is not opinion! Why do I state that? Look in LA chat, look outside the entrance; where are the shouts for AR dungeon? Where are all the people looking for groups? Where are the masses of players we have seen queuing at other new instances? Nowhere!
People are completing this for story/achievement and then leaving it alone. It is not fun, it is not worthwhile (rewards are ‘meh’) and it is tedious at the end.
It was a trash move for ANet to put the cache at the very end of a difficult PvP JP though. This encourages griefing, which I had thought was something ANet was against.
Camping that JP was one thing when the rewards were PvP rewards. It’s reasonable then for one side to deny the other side blueprints. To put a purely PvE achievement, getting the cache, in a PvP zone means that PvEers can’t get the achievement if PvPers are camping the zone and killing everyone. Especially difficult if this is the first time the PvEers are doing the puzzle and are trying to figure it out. Plus this is temporary content which means that waiting out the griefers is problematic. They are there getting easy honor medals off people who don’t PvP and just want the cache, and have no reason to stop.
As this “amusing” little video shows:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0IBD0eVhjwAt the end of the video one guys says, “didn’t get the cache”. (Laughs)
I entered the JP for the first time today. The start of it was filled with red names.
It would help if you could go in as PvE only, everyone in there is green to you, and if you do it this way you don’t have access to any of the PvP rewards. A separate PvE chest could spawn for you with the sort of loot a JP of this type would have.
This is what’s wrong with this game! Everyone wants their hand held to do anything!
The JP is too hard? Stop trying to do it while drunk off your rear then! I can do it very quickly and so should you after you go through it a couple times.
Oh and honestly, it’s a PvP zone! Now why would you want to attack anyone from a server you’re competing against in a PvP zone? In PvP, red is dead. Period.
Don’t want to sound like I’m attacking you personally but a PvE mode for a JP? I’ll stop writing now or otherwise the kitten filter will have to start working overtime.
That was actually a good idea. A PvE mode for Obsidian Sanctum. It is one of the best JP out there. Also a PvE version accessible from one of the cities (not LA, please!!) would be useful to keeping people who do not like to PvP (or are ‘passing through’) from clogging up the EB queue.
I do both PvP and PvE, I enjoy all aspects of this game and have done Obi JP twice in the last few days. Once I did it to get the cache (8a.m. on a EU server is usually quiet..hint hint) and the second time to get badges and seige for WvW. Given the option to do it just for the cache, with no need to fight, I would have gone to a PvE version the first time.
When I go into the sanctum JP from WvW I expect to be fighting. But I will agree with those people here that say it is WRONG! for a PvE achievement to require players to enter an environment that they may not like, or be capable of completing while somebody wants to take yellow delight in making things even more difficult for them.
Camping the EB jumping puzzle will just be kitten atm. With the intro of the cache achievement there are a lot of PvE players trying to do this. Lambs to the slaughter if you are a complete (insert any derogatory term here). I guess it will appeal to some players but if we can try to be nice about it today?
Actually, there isn’t even a matchup-thread over in the german forums ^^
Everybody too busy having good fights to come here complaining. BEST thread ever.
My play style is also free roaming and with longer term goals that will be achieved ‘as I go along’. Rare is the day where I have to rush the daily, or jump about madly to kill my quota of event bosses because I am forced to. I WvW (badly but with enthusiasm). I do dungeons on occasion, and run with guild members from 1 or other of the guilds I belong to, as I see fit. There is no need to rush through content and I wonder why people do (they are different to me, is all). And I do not have a lot of time to play, although I play a lot according to my wife:-). GW2 is the only MMO I have found to fit in with my life and not get left behind.
It has been fun, hard work and a lot of learning. Thanks to all who played. I make 1 exception: The Piken thief who killed me in EB jumping puzzle a while ago. I hope you felt really big the first time, (while I was afk, wiping my daughters bottom!!) I got back just in time to see my toon die:). And yes it is really silly to try and do a JP in PvP territory while looking after a 4 yr old. And no, the bad jumping ws all my own. Cheers guys.
I did not make my comments as a name calling thing and do not like to see those type of responses. I have, over the weekend and since, had run-ins and battles with some good groups from Riverside and Piken. I was addressing a specific instance where I think a group from one server acted badly. It is my opinion that this fell far short of the standard of play I witnessed before.
Edit: There will be no further comment from me on this.
Sounds like you got played. Why waste rams when the enemy can open the gate for you?
I am not bothered about ‘being played’. That is irrelevant. I can see the reasons why they did what they did and even understand them. I was remarking on the lack of honour displayed. It is enough that we are out-manned, out-numbered and pretty much fighting a rearguard action all week.
I am so proud to be a member of Gunnars Hold in WvW at the moment. I would be ashamed if I had been involved in the end of that situation and from Riverside.
A good day today, we held our own, lost everything, got it back; and just before I logged out this afternoon we had re-taken Hills. But good gracious almighty, those lunchtime zergs had us on the run in Gunnars!
Now you will have to excuse me for pointing out how shameful the one zerg behaved while we at Gunnars were trying to take Longview.
Picture this: about 10 players with Seigeraiser retaking one of the towers. Along comes, 30?, 40?, Riversiders. They stop to watch/assess whether they can take us.
So I suggested they stop: leave us be, or come 1v1. I was soooo pleased when a few of the Riverside players started and nobody else moved. Even began a 1v1 with someone. (This sounds really good so far).
Until he was losing. Then 1v1 turned into steamroller v the few we were, and then they walked into the keep we had so nicely opened the door of;-)
Now:
It is funny (we few did laugh a little about how many it took to down us, and the fact that they still dropped a few loot bags). It is expected: that the zerg will roll over smaller groups, to some extent. BUT. This has seriously lowered my respect and opinion of the Riverside server. I now believe that only if they have no choice will they engage in equal battle. I do have a screenshot taken after the onslaught, that shows how many Riversiders were there, but not posting it, cos I cannot be bothered to inflate their little egos by putting pictures of them here.
Furthermore before anyone starts flaming me. I am not crying about this, or complaining about being face-rolled. My issue is simple: What a dishonourable way to behave after one of your team has engaged single combat.
I for one am enjoying this match. It has been more a lesson of tactics, fight styles and ways to run away, than any time I have played before:). Whatever the result, I will have learnt to be a better WvW player. Hats off to you guys who are giving us respect on Gunnars; we will give you a fight to talk about for a long time.
Hi, I do not normally comment on forum for WvW, and I am only a casual interloper for our server(GH); but I have had an amazing amount of fun in the last 2 days both in EB and in our BL. Facing off against superior numbers and, often, tactics we cannot hope to hold against, has been a blast. Yes, I have died a few times (lots..;-)! But we have held, pushed back and left plenty of RS lying down in our trail. Good fights against Piken too (the roving small man groups I met are well co-ordinated and devastating to my ranger if I am solo). But we have matched up evenly when group met group. Yes we are out-numbered; Yes we will lose! YES! I will be there tonight at some time to try again/punish you for being in our BL. Some of us will keep up the fight (even if it is only part-time), and try to give you some challenges.
I have noticed that if I am in an instance (i.e. personal story or dungeon) the game allows me to finish this before kicking to restart. It has never taken me 2 hours to finish something but it has been way more than 10 minutes on occasion. The first message alerts you to this factor, but the 3 minutes message only kicks in when you are in open world (and probably able to relog without too much hassle or losing potential awards). Not everyone gets kicked at the same time, from what I can see. I may be wrong about this but it looks like people are given enough time to finish what they are doing.
Be a casual whale! The two groups are not exclusionary, unlike the polarised opinions shown in this thread.
On topic: What a load of opinion!
On the way in which I, as a member of the GW1 community, feels about being complimented on how wonderful we were in the past: Thank you OP, your high regard for us is appreciated and totally agreed with.
As a member of the GW2 community, who actually agrees with a little of what you say, and disagrees with much more (because I still play DEs on my lvl80s [3 so far] as I pass through any zones) while I am enjoying my gaming 9 months in: Why does what you say count for squat?
You imply (state actually) that I am a lesser person than I used to be.
You say that I am only grinding, because I like that pain: – I occasionaly spend a little time running the same events for a couple of hours with friends because we are having a laugh (communicating!!) while we do so.
You say we are not good players unless we moan and groan, whimper and whine (OK, he didn’t actually say that bit:) about how bad the game is.
Please keep your false opinions about me to yourself and I will not call you a self-important winkitten.
My question: What if the player had clicked decline? or is it only a matter of ending the rush before time completes?
Yes. Yes it is. I’ll completely agree with you on that argument. But I’m not agreeing in the way you think, because you see, that’s a BAD thing. It’s one of the reasons contributing to the increasing stigmatization of gamers and gamer culture – this vicious, poisonous in-game “chatting” profanity and hate speech that goes on in some games.
So Yes, it doesn’t happen in other games that you get actual painful consequences for using a term that you KNOW (c’mon, don’t tell me you didn’t know) was very, very bad, and can be argued to be hate speech. You knew it was a horrible word and you just hoped that no one would report you for it.
(PS, the whole “words have the power you give them” thing is not true at all, especially not when the words have power given to them by powerful institutions. Learn you some sociology, or believe me, I’m a South African.)
The fact that something like that has actual painful consequences here is a GREAT thing, and is attracting many players like people I know personally, who love games, and who are gamers in any sense of the word, but could never play online because they simply never had the “you must have this thick skin to play” that other games expect from you because in their own freaking lifetimes words like the one you used were used to dehumanize them, make them seem less than “full” human, so that horrible atrocities could be committed against them.
Now you may think it’s “silly” to have rules like that for a Teen-aged game, but that is ONLY because you are sitting comfortably in a position where no words like that have been used against you, leading to actual, real-life consequences on your body or the people you love. For those who have had that happen to them, online gaming was just yet another thing they had to miss out on.
You should be, as at least a teen-aged person, mature enough to enjoy a game without making it unpleasant for others, regardless of filters or no filters or country of origin.
This: With reference to the word used. I have no objection to the usage of swearing, so my language filter is set to off. I have great objection to racial hatred and the use of words like nkitten, where they dehumanise people.
I will not worry if you say kitten all day (I will find you tedious for doing so), but when you direct swearing at a person in order to insult them, denigrate or malign them; you deserve your ban. It is not the words that are offensive but the way you use them; and the way you use them, gives them power.

Hi,
Firstly, I have never needed e-mail verification to log into GW. Doing so has not changed since GW2 came out (at least on my PC).
Secondly. If you replied to that e-mail: log in now, change your e-mail password, your GW/GW2 password and any other details you may have given the scammer at the other end.
Had to log in after reading most of the thread. @ Vayne and Clay; you both express things very well and from what I see are not far off the same viewpoint (did like the chocolate break too ;-). Purely on a personal level, I dod not find GW2 a grind and probably fall into that category of player who will accept pretty much anything added to GW2 as long as it is not too game changing. A gear stat treadmill will cause me to leave. Ascended gear is tolerable in that if it is the last level added, it will be a longer term goal.
@ Chuo; I am with you on this. Just hoping the adventure box is not an April Fool thing.
I play every day, have logged over 600 hours but still have not done everything and still find new things around in PvE. Just playing the game is fun in itself. Sometimes having no goal in mind can be the best aspect of playing.
As it will not let me edit above post, I have to say yo the OP, I am impressed with your dedication to play. I have considerably less hours invested, and have much more to do. The advice others give is good, this game will improve over time and you can revisit whenever you want to. Go play another game for a while, check outside, or just wander a low level toon about aimlessly, you never know what fun you can have.
I just logged in because I had to comment here. This is the best, most original, inventive and totally implausible ‘entitlement’ thread I have ever seen. What comments! What insight! What a stupid, useless, analogy for a pointless claim to being worth more than everyone else, by virtue of being able to do the same thing as a couple hundred thousand other people. Or is soloing events elitist now?
It may be slow, but it is there. Just like they said! No-one said an ‘expansion worth of content in January’ alone. The whole development , into March, is supposed to provide that; and a prelude is precisely what it says…a teaser, a snippet to grab your interest.
Do not look for an expansion, as in a totally new and completely separate section of the game. From what has been said, I concluded (important to note that this is my interpretation), that the total content being added to GW2 would be equivalent to an expansion in it’s amount; BUT that it will mainly be put into the existing world, not have a new sector of the world created for it.
What I hope is that it will provide at least 1 new area designed for level 80 play, with DE chains that rely on player interaction and open up the area progressively. Almost like the ‘front line’ of a major war, which goes back and forth dependent on who is currently winning. (sorry wandering off-topic there).
Regretfully, I have never heard of you or your YouTube site. I feel sure I could have benefited from your ‘experience’ and would have gone back to WoW as well. (sarcasm over)
I am loving GW2 as it is exactly what I was looking for after being fed up with gear and stat grind ‘you cannot join in here!’ WOW-like MMOs. It is more dynamic and plain fun than any I tried. It is better than GW1; as is evidenced by the small numbers that have returned to that game after leaving to play GW2..MY Opinion!
Anet are improving the game that they started with and I have faith that it will be even more successful (and stable in a couple of years time). Those improvements are not what you suggest or it would appear want and I am sorry for you, but glad for me.
@Gaudrath
Totally! Was trying to say the same, but was struggling to do so without being OTT.
@OP
I know off-topic, but where did the GW1 players go ‘en-masse’? I know it isn’t back to GW1, cos I been there a few times since launch of GW2 and it is very sparsely populated. Last night I saw bout 5 people as I toured where 8 chars are, and Spamadan (EU) was ……..(suspense music in here please)…………..EMPTY!
I have a sneaky suspicion a lot of them are still playing here.
My Engineer is so bad that Skritt die laughing.
No to all. Concentrate on things players are complaining about.
I am one of the 1000+ members of Mara. Sorry, 500+ members now, because 500 of them just got cut away permanently by not being able to play on the US servers without transferring. How is this not a broken promise? How is this ‘supporting the community’? I can be, normally, accused of being a ‘fanboy’ with my regard for Anet and both GW and GW2, but this is backward.
@ Medarr. Ok, I do not know the costs associated, I do not realise the issues they face. But this does not change the fact that we were misled. If it was never going to be possible to play anywhere across the data centres, we should not have had it implied or stated otherwise.
If we had known this, it is highly probable that we would have made a decision for the whole guild (3 guilds we are split into now), to be on one server, IN ONE REGION, and accepted that some lag issues may occur. That option is now only possible if we all transfer to Yak’s Bend and start more guilds there. Doing this means losing everything that we have built up on Gunnars hold. Some options, eh?
Quite funny to be complaining about getting extra cogs! As it stands I got no extra cogs in my email; should I now feel cheated or grateful for the things I did get?
I cannot do the bells, not even more than 3 notes before I get kicked, deservedly.
You’re either pressing the exit button, hammering out dozens of wrong notes before 3 notes have dropped, or suffering from some kind of bug, because it’s impossible to be kicked that early under normal circumstances.
Sorry not sure what happened when I edited my other post. Even after i did work out what to do and how, i could not get timing right. I quit this event cos I am not good at it, other people are, and kudos to them.

From an event that caters to many different types of player and playstyles, you take what you want, and leave what you do not want OR CANNOT DO. I cannot do the bells, not even more than 3 notes before I get kicked, deservedly. I cannot for some reason do the JP here, even tho I know I should get it. I may try again but will not whine if at the end I cannot complete it. And snowball fight, not a chance, not interested at all. I have done all Tixx and Toypocalypse, have farmed presents for hours, made a mini soldier and enjoyed most activities that I can do. This is a good event, not perfect, but good enough and comparable to what you ever got from GW1. Why should you be able to get everything here, when you could not in most, if not all other game events? What I fail at does not make Anet the culprit. just my view on it.
I do think that minis should be trade-able and disagree with the RNG aspect of gameplay. If it hurts you that much; costs you that much money and peace of mind, and does not give you any pleasure, why keep on doing it?
Working with a party of 3-5, a return of 35-40 giant gifts per hour is achievable, running a loop of 5 present spawns, and killing all the toys that spawn when presents are opened. On top of this all team members get these benefits and all the other benefits of additional drops including rares. Must be done in a higher level zone to guarantee giant gifts.
Do the toys drop normal items? Or are you talking about the chance for skins/socks/etc?
I am talking about normal drops from toys and from incidental mobs around the area (collateral damage). The toys do drop other things than cogs and extra gifts.

It really takes the biscuit that; idiotic, no-hope, kitten-puppying salamanders, have to ruin things because of raspberry greed. Hack the JP? What a bunch of gooseberries! hope they all get caught and closed accounts.
@OP. What a joke for anyone who only plays a few hours each evening! Getting 200g, roflmao.
Generally: As was stated by Ashanae; new players will find it very hard, without resorting to buying gold (legitimate or not), botting or farming remorselessly for that ‘pure luck’ chance.
Personally; as with some items in other MMOs, I cannot be bothered to do this. I just find it amusing reading the forum posts. As someone who has no interest in obtaining a legendary weapon, and is not bitter about it; I think that the rewarding of a precursor based entirely on RNG is stupid. So far my contribution to this insane gamble has been to throw 4 level 75+ weapons into forge and salvage what came out. No other explanation of my opinion, no argument, no replies needed, thank-you. :-)
One more week! It is becoming evident that there is more profit from all the bot accounts than from the legitimate players, and that we are a secondary consideration. What is the point in planning to give us new content and events when they will be made un-enjoyable by all the bots running them.
I’ve been observing and reporting bots for a few days now, before I did not see them or worry too much (my bad). I would best describe myself as one of the fans of the GW games, but a casual player, although I have put some hours into both games. I am sorry Arenanet, but it is now time to stop dithering and hit the hackers and botters, HARD! I intend to buy bank slots and extra bag slots, am willing to spend RL money to do so, but not before you at least show willing to counter what is becoming a major problem for your, much vaunted, game. We are giving you some time and believing you are working on it, but do show us some sort of action soon. I am half-way thinking of leaving GW2 for now (prob won’t cause I really like the game and am a hopeless (trusting) optimist and unless I hear from you that all is fixed, I may not come back due to getting interested in other games.
Read it all, and agree with so much, it makes me very indecisive. Both the philosophy of the OP and some of the counters to it have value. I am hoping, after reading this, that Anet do a couple of things. I have one char at lvl45 and one at 23, and am concerned very much with the costs associated with travel and low (or none) rewards. I went to do AC and after 3 attempts, have not succeeded; it was fun, but the cost to repair my armour, and to get there, is prohibitive. This needs addressing. I am not a hard core player rushing, and am careful with the gold I make, but much more cost and I will rarely, if ever do dungeons without having to farm for gold. This does remove from the fun. I also would like a random chance of a ‘green drop’ (ref GW1, I played for 6 years) as well as, if not instead of the tokens..it is that random chance that makes dungeons more attractive. Fun without reward is ok, but to make me repeat things enough i require both.
