Thanks, Crow. Exactly the kind of information I was looking for!
This has kind of been my strategy in group fights:
- Stay in Fire for mobility (Fire #3) Engage enemies with Fire #3, if possible, then hit one of my shouts (if closer to more allies, use Feel The Burn!, if closer to enemies use one of the other two)
- Hit all remaining shouts if its a big team fight
- Use Fire Overload
- If going on offensive, switch to Air, use Air #3, then spam Air #1 until I can use Air Overload, then use it
- If getting focused, switch to Earth, use Earth #4
- If my or my allies health gets low, switch to Water, use Heal, spam Water #1 until Water Overload, then use it
That seem like the way to go?
One thing I did notice is that I find myself staring @ my abilities and looking @ cooldowns a lot more than finding a single target and focus’ing them. Kind of like I’m just spamming auras/aoes.
I also find 1v1 very slow. Not quite sure what else to do there other than blowing all shouts and spamming Air #1.
The only class I’ve played is a necro and I’m trying to learn a second one. I heard this build was pretty “forgiving” in PvP:
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Tempest_-_Celestial_Auramancer
But, with the sheer # of abilities (4 stances instead of 2 and overloads), the options are really overwhelming…
Other than “Wash the Pain Away!” and “Obsidian Flesh” being awesome does anyone have any other advice for a beginner playing this kind of character? Any go-to rotations or combos I should try to stick with @ first?

I just started playing the game again and this wasn’t available. Please put it back in the store!
Hi all,
My main is a necromancer, but I’m also looking to use my warrior to sPvP with to help me finish out my dailies. I haven’t played in 2 years, but I’m looking for the easiest build to PvP with so that i can at least not be a burden to a team.
Any recommendations?
Nice, just found the WvWvW laurel vender. Looks like its gonna take me a while to get them!
So if that’s the best way to get ascended jewelry, I’m assuming that either lucky drops or crafting are the only way to get weapons/armor?
What else is there to work towards then, if not ascended gear?
I don’t mind if it takes months to get a weapon or something. I’m just looking for some kind of progression that will help me out in WvWvW.
I logged on for the first time in 2 years and I’m overwhelmed. I’ve gotten like 10 different chests which have given me like 100 different items none of which I really know what they do. My inventory is chock full of stuff that I don’t know the value of.
All I really want to do is sPvP/WvWvW and improve my exalted gear to ascended. I’ve read a couple of different websites and it seems very complex to get though.
Anyone have any information or links on what I should be doing? I’m just looking for what I can do each day to maximize my “rewards” so that I can be a better sPvP and WvWvW player.. I can’t play 12 hours/day like I use to so dailies and such are also very welcome.
Wow. Thanks for the great info/wall of text!
Hi all,
Considering come back and want to try things out before I buy the expansion. Haven’t played in two years though. I did like the 5v5 PvP warfront things back in the day so I think it would be nice to ease back into those. Looking for a build that will help me do that.
Would also like a build that works okay in PvE too in case I need to do that for some reason
Five out of seven days are spent karma training where the zergs try to avoid each other and take undefended objectives. The other two days you get to sit in queue for hours on end hoping to get in before the commander you want to follow logs off. If you do manage to actually get in and a big fight starts up you get to deal with skill lag.
If none of what I said bothers you WvW might be for you.
That sucks
Was thinking of coming back. When I left, Necro’s seemed to be the worst class in the game. Not very good in structured PvP and AOE zombies in WvWvW.
Are necro’s better since then? Are minion class/syphon classes viable?
Quit GW2 almost a year ago because I hated mindless zerging and seemingly pointless WvWvW.
My desire for open world PvP, however, has been rekindled. Was wondering if there were any changes made over the past year that would psyche me up to return to GW2.
Thanks just saw that. Any idea when the event ends?
I’m moving this weekend and will have very limited access to the internet. I know there is a special event @ 3 PM EST on Sunday, but other than that have no idea what’s going on.
Does anyone know:
- When Act 2 or any subsequent acts are supposed to start?
- When the Halloween event stops? (meaning when ToT bags and candy corn are no longer available)
- Any other special dates?
Thanks in advance.
So, I’ve come to the conclusion that AOE grinding mobs and node farming is inferior to chain running events with the zerg. I’ve upgraded my MF gear (thanks for the staff-swapping idea Ascii!) and will be using that for my $$/karma farming.
Not sure if you know this BTW, but you don’t actually need to have 2 staffs equipped. Just swap the Luck one out with the MF one, manually, after you have your 25 charges. Then you can still leave axe/warhorn equipped for run speed/life force recharge.
So, the only thing that is mandatory in this kind of build is Greater Marks and Staff Mastery, in the Death Magic tree, which is great because a WvW power build should have these anyway.
Now its just a question of how I want the rest of the WvW build to look. I’m wondering whether a 30-point Soul Reaping would be worth it. I haven’t done much WvW, but I assume your lifeforce can stay pretty high with all the deaths around you. Couple that with the Soul Reaping DS traits and you could probably stay in DS for a long time (when you aren’t slamming down your staff marks):
I’ll probably start another thread focusing on this WvW build, but if you have any thoughts here, please let me know!
I have a crazy theory about why DS is so borked at the moment. It might be a bug.

I could be mistaken, Levian, but I think you take the same amount of damage, but you also take an additional 4%/sec as well, due to the nature of death shroud.
Ha, I already use abyss and apricot dye on my armor!
Sorry guys, I’m an idiot.
I didn’t post the right link to my spec. I changed it in the OP, but here it is:

Tim,
I’m intrigued with DS being instrumental in farming, but aren’t you kittening your uptime without the lower wells CD trait in blood?
I’m guessing you are using something like this build in order to maximize DS usage:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNAW3djQaZ6daia87JCoH769OLqwxoe4uyhOA
I guess I could also be open to switching my WvW spec to a more condition-based build but the WvW and AOE farming condition builds would have to be a lot better to make me start getting gear all over again..
That’s good advice for a conditionmancer, but I’m trying to eliminate the need to respec for WvW. Right now my build is power/crit and my rare/exotics are power/crit.
I’m having a hard enough time crafting my exotic power armor, let alone having to craft two different sets of armor AND respec every time I switch between farming/wvw
In order to avoid respec’ing, I’m running the following WvW build, that I’m hoping to also use for AOE farming. It’s a power build with pieces of rare/exotic Berserker armor and rubies.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fQAQNBmWDbkRrSPTzdjfTRIp4ZXDSx71VkijZMqCrD;TsAg2Crouxcj4G7Nubk3s2YsxuBA
Note, its very mark dependent with nothing to help wells, because I use marks and signets in WvW.
Unfortunately I almost die whenever I fight 4+ lvl 80 mobs….and I can never kill a Veteran for it, which is almost necessary when running nodes in the Straits of Malachor.
Am I asking too much of my build? Do I really need to respec a separate equipment/trait setup every time I want to go from farming to WvW?
What are others doing?

I have about 30k karma saved.
It also looks like you need about 2m karma to get legendary weapons, so even though I probably won’t ever get that, I should probably save my karma for those exclusively.
So as far as armor/jewelry goes, as Xilodon said I’ll probably make my own. Then, I’m guessing, I can purchase my own exotic weapons from the AH for gold.
Xilo, what do you mean by “going for world completion”?
Any good level 80 crafting gear that's "better" than the normal stuff?

Okay, so the people that are lvl 80 who are out there grinding karma in large zergs are just going it to get gear for looks?
What about the legendary weapons I’ve heard about?

I’m about to hit lvl 80 and I will (eventually) have lvl 400 tailoring and jewelcrafting. I know we can make standard armor/jewelry out of gossamer and orachalcum but I was wondering if there anything “better” we could make after that.
Or is the only way to get better gear by doing PvE dungeons and/or karma vendors?
I’m about to turn 80 and have been using gear I’ve gotten from drops, trading post, and crafting. I’ve saved up all of my karma too, but I’m pretty poor from crafting (about 1g in the bank).
Anyone know the easiest way to get lvl 80 gear for WvW? Then, after I get the easy stuff, what’s the best way to get the best gear? I don’t do PvE dungeons and I’d much prefer to earn stuff via WvW (if possible)
Thanks.

Tony,
I’ve enjoyed reading your guide and using your build has been a fun change of pace in sPvP. I’ve definitely learned a lot.
If I can make a recommendation though: asking people if they “mad” or calling them idiots does not help your credibility at all. You’ve had some good counter-arguments to be made, but when you mix them up with attacks on people personally or calling them out on not playing a necro…well it definitely hurts your case.
