delay it even !

HoT is already 1.5 year late.

This is an age old discussion. Looking at proper open world MMO’s, the fast pace released expansions turned out to be extremely buggy.

Also keep in mind that living world season 1 was a mistake. A lot of dev time was invested in temporary content. They admitted it was a mistake, but nobody can turn back time and get that lost time back (not even the chronomancer).

Also, people complain a lot bout delays, but it seems to have very limited impact. We waited over 5 years for GW2 (counting from the date it was announced), still it was a huge success. Even delays doesnt bother for sales. I’m curently playing elder scrolls online to bridge time till HoT on the PC. with the upcoming console release there is a lot of hype going while it was postponed several times and should have been released over a year ago shortly after the PC-release. Still people hype up and get it.

At Halbarz:

One thing I always liked bout Arenanet is that they don’t care bout what looks good on the box or what people might be expecting. They do things in their own way. They don’t add e.g. dungeons cause thats what supposed to be in an MMO, but they add content that they think we are going to like. Looking at what they did with GW2 I have to say that they know what we like.

I’m not reading too much into HoT to prevent being spoiled, but what I’ve udnerstand is that part of it will be instances that tell the story (like the story journal in the current game). In the living story season 2 they allready added a challenge mode to those instances. By nodging this up a bit more, you actually get content very simular to dungeons, but different. Just an example using your example

My point is that I know they don’t do hasty releases but take all the time they need, but they don’t release things that look good on the box, but they release things that are great to play.

I’m curious, where did Arena Net say making the Living world season 1 was a mistake? Don’t get me wrong, I totally agree but I would love to read where they take responsibility for it.

This would be more Defensive. Mind you I also switched around the traits since the the runes didn’t rely on Might production.

This would be more offensive with the generation of might being focused on more.

ArenaNet doesn’t hate guards. You are just projecting your frustrations out over a name because guardians can now be linked to a name and ideal (zeal and high lawful good over hate of dragons and their minions to where they could be considered morally gray)instead of paragons from GW1. A guard is not a paragon.

I doubt he is frustrated that Guardians are not not named Paragorns. It might have something to do with the fact that Dragon Hunter is bland and dumb.

Guardian vs Engineer

in PvP

Posted by: Cracklerjack.4895

Cracklerjack.4895

I used to have trouble fighting Engineers 1 vs 1 but I one day after I got my kitten especially handed to me I decided to watch how they fight and learn their skills.

I have learned that they have massive AOEs and tons of conditions. They also love to be in your face because that’s how they just unload this amazing burst on you. I also learned that this amazing burst has a cool down that really is quite long.

I use this said CD to my advantage all the while keeping my distance from them. Its hard for them to land their grenades at range if you are watching them from a far fyi. I would recommend you use scepter to kite them as they continue to try and get close to you.

If they do get close to you and unload all their CDs on you, use your blocks and roll out. I actually pop my Shelter just to get out of it. Shelter is not on a terribly long cool down and your other skills can heal you as well so it’s not a big deal. Once you roll away keep your distance all the while flinging your fairy balls in his face. Once you see that he has popped his burst its time for you to act. Time your burst perfectly and he will absolutely go into panic mode.

Its worked almost every time for me and I can honestly say I’m not that scared of engis anymore.

Oh and one word of advice. If it’s honestly just a 1 vs 1, DONT STAND ON THAT CIRCLE! Let him sit on it because as soon as he misses his load on you, he will be toast.

Anet please hear us out. It makes no sense that “Guild Wars” 2 doesn’t have guild wars in it. You need to implement something that will cater to this perspective of your customers. It will definitely bring some serious hype and much needed flavor in Guild Wars 2. I honestly wouldn’t be upset if you didn’t add the exact way we are doing Guild vs Guild, but something that provided guilds to compete with each other no matter the server would be huge.

I can honestly say though, if you ever had the slightest thought on doing it, make it larger scale than current pvp. 8 vs 8 or even 10 vs 10. This would definitely add to the longevity of Guild Wars 2.

I’ll check out the the specialization when it comes out but if it stays like this I’ll probably gravitate to a different profession. I honestly hate everything about the new specialization. Maybe Warrior might be what I’m looking for. Hell they can’t ruin that class they already took the worst game mechanic and gave it to the guardians…Oh god…PETS!

Warrior has too much mobility.

Mobility or landspeed?

If mobility, than sorry but L2p.. mesmer/thief/Ele even guard have more mobility IN combat. (teleport kitten is so much better in pvp!! compared to landspeed skills)

If landspeed, than sure but not more compared to s/gs ranger or thiefs.. even ele can have great landspeed if you spec for it.. same goes for warrior.

L2P? I’m sorry but in that list you added Guardian. No I’m sorry but no. The only real mobility that a guard has is the meditation build coupled with sword, which by the way, isn’t good compared to other weapons. Get your facts straight before rambling a bunch of words you obviously have no idea about.

Yup thats right i added Guardian over there, that wasnt a mistake. Nope..

Hmm i was thinking medi was a thing in pvp doesnt it?? right? lol dude your into PVE or something? get your own facts together and see for yourself in pvp that guardian have Great mobility in pvp, and yes teleport is Much better compared to leap skill in pvp where there are walls etc..

Sorry but your wrong m8

I play pvp and wvw. Before you judge people on so little information maybe you should take into account that Teleporting has to target people first to initiate. Mobility covers many issues. Catching people and getting AWAY. Leaps are much better Pal. Get your facts straight because I honestly think you are one of those people that QQ over the guard that caught you and killed you or something.

We have no idea what the traps DO yet. They could all be holy/divine traps that do crazy kitten like, if it’s stepped on, up to five targets within 600yards are pushed back/knocked down. Or if one person steps on them, they spread burning to any nearby enemies for the next 10 seconds as well as themselves.

What about a trap that turns into a symbol? Or one, once triggered, throws out crazy amount of boons to allies? I think too many people have a narrow focus that these things have to be MUNDANE traps.

Of course, I’m not saying it WON’T be that. I’m just advising to keep an open mind until ANET surprises/disappoints us.

And to be fair to the DragonHunter name … we kind of ARE there to do that so <shrug>

I agree with you on waiting and seeing. I think however, people are just disappointed with traps as a whole. The play style is rather mundane and to be honest, nobody who rolled a guardian did it with the purpose of throwing down traps on their enemies. It just doesn’t fit the whole Holy Knight of light aspect. Traps are for…Rangers and trappers ect…

Are the new Traits a nerf for Warrior?

in Warrior

Posted by: Cracklerjack.4895

Cracklerjack.4895

As a matter of fact, warrior will receive some nerfs.

Not being able to take the Reflection trait and Dogged March is a direct nerf to Mace/Shield+GS builds.

Not being able to take Merciless Hammer and Burst Mastery is a direct nerf to Hambow.

Not being able to take Crack Shot and Warrior’s Sprint is a direct nerf to GS/Rifle builds.

Nerfing the passive of HS is, well, a direct nerf to HS…

So yeah, we do receive nerfs, there is no denying.

However, don’t fear, your warrior will become way more powerful. Because for the minor things we lose, we will mostly gain a lot of sorely needed damage in return. And hopefully, they will adjust our healing skills in such a way that we get more viable builds without being forced to take HS. By the way, the active of HS is getting buffed, so there is that to counter the passive nerf.

I guess with all that being the case maybe I’m in a good position of not being used to the current HS “meta” for warrior.

Traps are inherently stationary which lends to the argument of why it was given to the Guardian in the first place. We already have Symbols/Consecrations for Area-denial, why another set of the same skills? I was hoping to get mantras

I think this is my biggest issue with the whole “traps” thing as well. Even if they ARE good (which, let’s be honest, current trap skills make that a rather large if), it’s still just more area denial, which is the one thing we DON’T need more of on guardians. Between symbols, consecrations, and other area-based attacks (smite, ring of warding, etc.), our problem has never been applying pressure to an area. The problem is ensuring that the enemy can’t just avoid the area, which traps do NOTHING to solve. Outside of conquest in sPvP, which is likely going to lose popularity once Stronghold releases anyway, there’s just no use for ground-based AoE if the enemy can simply run out of it.

Not to mention Dodge through it if they see you throw it down. It’s different if this was an ability but since its on the ground all they have to do is roll in and proc it. No damage done. GG Anet. Traps better at least pulse several times after being set off. Otherwise they will be absolutely worthless.

Some back knowledge, I’m currently leveling a warrior and have enjoyed the process thus far but I’m really looking forward to having him level 80 and kicking some serious kitten . The last thing I want to see is all this time and effort put into something that is getting nerfed to the ground.

So like the title says, I’m curious as to whether or not the new traits coming into affect prior to release of HOT are a nerf. People in my guild seem to think so without giving me any example on what that nerf will be. I have tried looking up traits and what not but due to my limited knowledge on the Warrior class as it is right now I figured it would be easier dabbling in the minds of the more seasoned Warriors out there.

Why the complaints about Dragonhunter?

in Guardian

Posted by: Cracklerjack.4895

Cracklerjack.4895

1. “Dragonhunter” sounds like it came from the mind of a child no older than 8 yrs….

3. Thematically speaking, it’s basically a guardian playing ranger for a day. It feels very uninspired, unoriginal, and doesn’t feel like it’s going to bring anything new and exciting to the table like the chronomancer does.

4. The virtue rework is okay, but should really be baseline, honestly. Not only are they not adding a new virtue, but the reworks feel quite counterintuitive, to be honest. VoJ will no longer proc to allies by the looks of it, VoR will require a leap to heal alllies (as opposed to just, y’know, an instant 1200 radius heal), and while the block looks like it’ll be useful, we really shouldn’t have to trait an elite spec just for a duration-based block. If the spec is meant to be more backline support-oriented, then why are they making our virtues less effective support skills?

If the bow deals decent damage then I can maybe see myself taking it, but there’s no way I’m going to use wells, and there’s DEFINITELY no way I’m going to refer to my guardian as a “dragonhunter”.

I completely agree with this. Dragonhunter is such a lame name. Compare it to all names created for guildwars and it upsets me. Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist, Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon, Dervish, Guardian, Thief, Engineer, Revanant and Chronomancer. NO WE ARE DRAGONHUNTERS. Might as well name the Necromancers specialization Deathknights, if you are naming guardians that.

Even the DeathKnight sounds better than Dragon Hunter. Necros should specialize into Zombie Revivers or whatever. I don’t know, I cant think completely original.

Honestly WTF was Anet thinking…were they thinking??

I was hopefully optimistic with Anet in regards to the new specialization. I got really excited with the wings. The way I saw it we would be looking at almost an archangel type character. Maybe an Archangel is what we would be seeing! Imagine it with me if you will, gone is the guardian’s clunky mobility. All of a sudden we have the archangel with a bow using their utilities to spread their wings and igniting the areas they touch with burning blue healing flames as they soar to another location. You see a ally in need on the other side of the area? No problem! Spread those mighty blue wings and soar to his protection all the while burning and damaging your enemies. Possibly ensnaring those when you land!

I of course would see all of this too good and bad kitten to be true but hey I will say it again; I was optimistic.

Honestly Anet…excluding the fact that the wings seem kind of out of place seeing as they only have to do with one virtue, Traps??? TRAPS?!?!? Like what?

This is a huge turn off for me. It just is. I’m absolutely willing to watch the presentation on it tomorrow but I’m already pretty disappointed in the path you’re taking with my precious guardian. I have mained my guardian since launch and I can honestly say I’m so turned off by the idea I’m about to drop him altogether.

I’m very curious on how you are going to implement these traps. when I’m in pvp and I see a trap ranger I immediately grin because they are so easy to counter it’s quite pathetic. IF Dragon Hunter’s traps are anything like ranger’s traps It will be an automatic nope for me.

I guess the bright side to all this is at least the new meditation traits look very good.

What nerf? ALL of the changes(excluding the gimmicky glacial heart) seemed like buffs heck they even trimmed a decent amount of useless traits or fixed broken ones into something interesting.

Glacial heat change will end up being a fairly big nerf. Its a big spike potential totally removed. I don’t even play a medi guard I play a altrustic healing bunker and believe me that and might blow together could wreck people if they both crit never mind the fact that even a 2 second chill is very powerful. It’s not the end of the world but it’s a nerf. Most other classes got more powerful as well you can’t just point out the fixes Guardian’s got it seems to me every class but Necro and Ele are coming out ahead after the revamp.

Technically, during the stream the Devs said they removed it only because chill seemed to not mesh with the whole guardian picture they were trying to paint. That being said they did mention that if enough people got upset about it they would find a way to implement it into the game. Time will tell but if it really bothers you that it’s gone, you really need to make it aware to the Devs.

I just don’t understand you guys at all. There has got to be some kind of progression in this game. You know what would really upset people would be all these tedious things for LARGE rewards.

I have an example for you guys, FFXIV makes it so you have to do dungeons to get tokens (much like gw2) however, to get the legendary gear you have to grind a dungeon endlessly to get 40 tokens a run. You can only cap at 300 a week and to get the full set is going to cost easily over 4k-5k. and that is for ONE character. Not to mention the dungeon run themselves can take over 30 minutes to complete with a coordinated team. Mind you, you need this gear in order to do the actual end game content. There is no way around it.

Compared to that, GW2 is a cake walk and it needs tedious stuff to continue progression.

I have taken a break from GW2 simply because of the lack of end game pve content but I’ll probably come back once they implement legendary gear. So what if you have to work to get that extra edge? This game is already too easy as is.
