Why should ANET run tourney’s? I don’t see what they gain, beyond potential tax writeoffs.
The viewership hasn’t been high. The players themselves have been toxic at times. I’d much rather the money was spent on PvP and/or LS.
Why they made the push for e-sports we don’t know only that they did. What is requested is information about their future plans. Do the reasons they pushed for e-sport still exist so they will continue or not?
If they have NO plans to continue with the e-sport push why not just say so? Seems to me they are unsure themselves? Why is it so hard to give information about the direction the game is going?
So funny, he talks about how he doesn’t want people to use his words in this video to bash anet and they are leaving because they can no longer compete as a team. Then here we have a whole thread of people using this video to bash the game and talking about how he was only interested in money. Lol, too funny.
Couldn’t compete? Ha! BS. Then they should’ve left at the START of the season where it was known that 5v5 wasn’t going to be in.
No no no. They left because the e-sport money dried up, pure and simple.
You are fooling yourself if you think that pro teams ever considered ranked competitive. Only comprtition for them came from voice chat pro teams tryharding, not random pugs lmao
I never said ranked was competitive, I was just pointing out their BS excuse about how they “couldn’t compete”. It proves my point. The money dried up!
Dunno why you come across so angry though? I think you are a little sad to see them go as well…and you lash out.
I mean aren’t pro players sponsored? How will they go about to “give back” to their sponsors if there are no big events to win to help show off their skills and build their brand as a team?
As I understand it the lack of transparency from ANet is the main issue. Either say that e-sports is off the table and all the pro teams can move on, or organize some event for them to train for if they want to keep it. But they say NOTHING!
shrug I guess it really was all about the money.
… or maybe at least a competivite outlet for a PRO team?
Of course money is a factor if you are a pro team. Cannot make a living as a pro-gamer playing solo/duo queue competing for a title.

People don’t seem to understand my point. If you lose 7 of 10 placements on purpose to get into bronze, but then go 20-0 for the next 20 games, the system doesn’t stabilize your mmr in bronze. A true show of carry out of bronze would be to get to the point where you gain less mmr than you lose, like people are seeing in their “correct” tier, then starting the climb. I’m not bashing the guy, I just think this was more of a “hey look at me, I’m special” than it was a show of how you can climb in the system.
But isn’t the point to prove that he does not belong there (like many have complained about) and if you were unlucky with your placement matches and got placed in bronze you can easily escape it if you have the skills to do so. If you get a 50% win-ration in bronze, you most likely belong there?
Perhaps I misunderstood the point of the playthrough. My understanding was that if you get stuck in bronze and work to improve, that anyone should be able to climb out. It cannot be called ELO Hell imo if you gain 30 mmr per win.
I see what you mean…but then it is just that people refuse to accept where they might actually fit in the league or refuse to change class into something that might help carry better.
If I remember correctly was this a response to the complaint that people were unlucky with placements and ended up in a league they “should not at all be in” and could not get out of there. I could be mistaken though

@Bloodriver Tim: You sure about that? I watched his stream and in bronze he fought people 1 v 3. It might have taken a few more matches, but I doubt it would have been difficult.
Oh, GJ. From Bronze-kitty to Legendary kitty in no time at all. Well, maybe time for me to get my kitten together and get out of silver
I agree with Shwyx, I am sorry you cannot play the way you wanted but I think the system is OK. Solo only would be even better. Maybe next season they will introduce a (hopefully, totally separate) 5-man queue, who knows?
I dragged my sorry self from lowest bronze to silver (so I am not very good at this) but I get to play with players as bad as me and I have many close matches which is fun. So I am happy too
It sound like your an experienced player, just stick with it and guide your team and you’ll be fighting with the “real” pvp:ers soon enough and you don’t have to be so frustrated with us bad rotating, zerg-minded, bad-build using … kittens
GL !
Heh, maybe if the points were like four times as big so a trap could not cover the whole thing?
Meh!
Hoping for a game sale to bring more family members aboard…
There was a bug before that caused that…you needed to set your animations to “medium”. Helped me
Dunno if the same though,..
Heya!
So this is Bravendum, my awesome looking (?) engie.
He would look even more awesome if there was a backwards facing cap that he could use when he really do not want any skritt-spatter falling down the back of his neck.
— Hmm flip flip, seems the Gem Store Catalog do not show such a thing? Maybe there will be an update soon™.

A lot of small things but the main thing for me is time-gated crafting.
I usually never craft in games (I usually gather stuff and give to friends and they craft for themselves and others), but if you want to participate in the top-fractals or raids you need to craft your own armor (I think) since others cannot craft it for you (bah!).
So on one of my characters I got tailoring to 500 and as about to craft my armor but then found that certain items you could only create one per day, even though I had all the ingredients??
I found that increbibly boring, annoying and frustrating so I dropped the idea of crafting all together. Hence I have never raided or played top-fractals even though I have had the game since launch.
Back to WvW/PvP i go
If we disregard the P2W vs B2W vs B2P tag. From an SPVP perspective, why would it be bad if all free-to-play users could access everything for just SPVP like suggested in this thread?
The hope would be that there would be a lot more people playing PvP with a chance for shorter queue times, bigger tournaments and perhaps a bigger twitch-community and interactions there and things like that?
To you who disapprove. Is that because it seems:
1) technically difficult to separate SPvP and the rest of the content with respect to class access, or
2) because the suggested benefits above are not worth it or improbable, or
3) because you paid money and feel you earn the right to added possibilities in PvP?
There are probably other reasons as well.
I play WvW and PvE as well and gladly paid for the upgrade to get the new stuff but I feel like we would benefit from a larger SPvP community.
Maybe some of the new PvP-ers will enter the WvW or PvE as well and the pay for the full game. Seems like a win-win.
I don’t see why we should spend money on something that we have no idea what it might be?
I have spent a lot of money in this game but that has stopped now until they can give a list or at least a hint of what they plan to do with the money (like other crowdfunded projects).
Why all the secrecy? It must be OK to say that we are planning a WvW review or class-balance is in the works, for instance? If they did that I would happily pitch in if I thought the plan was OK, but I fail to see any information.
The only thing I am sure of is that new gemstore items will arrive and I will not spend money just to spend more money. I want some actual playable content as well.
Maybe I am not looking hard ehough though…I dunno.
Haha, I am still waiting for an offer. A few more bright ideas on these forums and they might notice me
OK I realize all my ideas suck…but that just goes to show how desperate I am.
Current state of WvW forced me out of lurking and spew greatness on the forums.
I have ascended gear too but I am willing to give those bonuses up if it means having fun fights again.
Feels sad to have to pay an extra 10-15 euro for a server transfer just because I happened to pick a server that died. I hope I don’t have to but, c’est la guerre, I guess.
goes back to lurking
The bitterness is strong in this one
Haha, lol that bad eh…
Told you I did not relly think this thru. Maybe that is the same for ANet, wonder if they have an opening?
Oh, no it was not a FoW guild but an FR one. Our problem is that we are too few to do anything about it.
We need to introduce conscription on our server
WARNING: I have not thought this through in great detail
I was thinking if we could enable a mercenary system where servers could “hire” mercenaries from other servers for the duration of a battle.
In my mind given the current matchup and expected number of active WvW-players servers have open “slots” that can be filled with mercenaries.
The currency you hire mercenaries for is a percentage of your WvW-points up to say 50% in total. The units to hire could be guilds. That would require a guild to select a home server (which also must have a cap, not everyone can select the same one). If you hire a guild for 5% of your points, those points would go to the guild home server. This could mean that a server that could win even though half their WvW-population is away fighting on other servers could earn way more points than what is max today and hence get big bonuses. Which might be OK. The thing in focus here is not to let WvW die and get fun fights back.
PRO: Everyone in a guild can play WvW together even if they are from different servers.
CON: The points only go the guild home server which might erode server pride but might increase guild pride.
We could reuse the TP and let guild leaders post their guild for sale (with information about number and type — roaming, conquering(?) etc. and there should be a rating from earlier mercenary tours, given by hiring servers) with a requested points percentage price.
Commanders from a server would be eligible to place a bid for mercenaries. The bid must be accepted by at least three commanders and also the mercenary leader (since the bid might be lower than requested).
For the duration of the next battle the guild would effectivily fight for the hiring server.
Of course people can abuse it and not fight at all and just claim points, but that is why we need the rating (also only available to commanders). Guilds that do not take their mercenary duties seriously will probably not be used again.
This way we might get fights going on lower populated servers, but his also works for T1 servers that need a fresh batch of cannon-fodder from us on the lower tiers to fill out their ranks.
Probably LOTS of problems with this…but maybe something like this can be used to keep server pride and still get fights going?
Hey!
Maybe a controversial suggestion but what if we had PvP builds in WvW…where everyone was on equal terms and you did not have to be a fully geared level 80 to participate. Maybe then more people would like to try it out?
You could even gain the same (or similar) rewards as in PvP with your WXP and at the end of the battle you could get a nice bonus chest in different “tiers” depending on how much you participated?
People probably fled this game mode for a reason, but at least we can let new players easily come and try it out and perhaps some of them stay….or perhaps this will kill the game mode entirely.
I am on Ruins of Surmia (EU) and the other night we managed to get five people together in EB on prime time and on another we were three people in EB spawn and a guild had built AC’s and catapults outside our spawn. Lol, they had the whole map and were bored I guess.
So, needless to say, my experience is that WvW is dead on my server. Here’s hoping that it will somehow come back to life in some form, it used to be great fun.
Ok, you’re probably right.
Oh, did not know about joining a party with someone from another realm.
Hey!
Maybe this has been asked before but as the title says: why isn’t there a way to chat with people from other servers on a certain channel?
Maybe to form temporary alliances etc?
Or set up a GvG maybe for those that favor that?
I don’t craft, never have. I find it too tedious. But that is my choice. Some people have put MANY hours into crafting and getting materials in order to build a legendary item. That should be rewarded.
I do NOT think that you should be able to get the same legendary items that crafters build any other way. It is not like it is impossible fo us non-crafters to get it, we just have to start crafting and put the hours in.
I created a new character, unawares of that GW2 just had become free-to-play. When I entered the game I was greeted by name by a huge group of people welcoming me to the world and also passed me a gold coin (which I gave to an actual f2p person along with gold of my own).
That welcome was awesome! Have never seen that in any other game. I think I got a taste of the fresh f2p experience from a community perspective and I have to say it was great.
GOOD JOB people!
First, sorry if this has recently been posted (tried searching for ‘server lag/issues’ and the like with no results(?)).
I play on Ruins of Surmia and at peak hours I get kicked from the server very often nowadays (due to client timeout). I have long load-times as well and certain times when the client times out before the map is loaded, skill lag is very common at peak hours too. These things I usually did not have any issues with.
At non-peak hours everything is smooth and fast as it should be.
It could be my machine maybe (I am playing on a Mac where I have tried setting most things to low setting but that does not help the situation). I am thinking that it is too much data processing going on on my machine due to lots of characters on the map. But it does not seems to be better if I teleport to a less populated map.
If it is not my machine:
Question 1: Is Does anyone know if ANet is in the process of tweaking the megaservers so they can cope with the players wanting to play and that is why we get laggy experiences from time to time?
Question 2: Do you think it will be better if I move to another home server or is the megaserver system making that unnecessary?
This really makes for a poor game experience. Hopefully they can boost the machines, tweak the code or whatnot in order to fix this.
I just got spam mail as well and tried looking for a way to report it.
I have the same issue. It occurs at certain locations and looking in a certain angle (for me a couple of places in the Divinity’s Reach). For me it occurs so seldom it is of little consequence though.
