Season 1 WvW World Champions, BeastGate
OK, this was unsportmanship… What now?
Buff mesmers?
Do you want them to kneel down and beg for your pardon? Do you watch F1 or football?
They knew they have no chance to win! And unlike some other sports they do not have a manager, they do not have a boss to slap them on the face afterwards… They play because the are players. They were acting like a man who is fed up with all this unbalanced crap while the rules written by others failed and are unplayable….
It’s like playing as a midfielder in FIFA or the EC while every scorer is able to bring a 9mm pistol to the match…
Because people want to be arm chair coaches and tell others what is unsportsmanlike and what is not. They have no clue what it is like to be at that level and hit a brick wall that is a waste of time. To me quitting isn’t unsportsmanlike, what he did was fair. Only the ESL and ArenaNet are the ones who should have their panties in a bunch. Their product is taking a huge hit and this battered it more, and they deserved it. Everyone else who is claiming “rage quit” and “unsportsmanlike” are just blindly agreeing with how leagues view unsportsmanlike conduct and being crybabies about it.
Person in reddit post say they rage quit. Said it them self.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3wy1gn/zero_counterplay_leave_match/cxzwnbp
And? People say they troll but don’t actually troll. People say they are elite, but aren’t actually elite. People say they are OCD but don’t even know what an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is.
The next comment after was “Twitch was thanking you for saving us from watching 15 minutes of one team ramming their head against a wall while the other just spams sustain and invulns that don’t prevent capture contribution.”
He can call what he did a ragequit, but in this case I say its more just realizing that you are about to be 2-0 just like every other losing team because they gave up the first cap and decided to just walk out and save everyone’s time in a broken game. Is frustration there? Likely, but its not gonna be a deciding factor as much as “Am I seriously about to waste 15 minutes again?”
“Sorry for the unprofessionalism but this game is hardly professional in its current state.” That’s the only unprofessional thing I have seen from Moob, but its not like he is wrong either when the proof is in the history of GW2’s PvP.
Wait what? Why are you guys jumping all over Matisse and Wolf Shadow for being “jealous?” They aren’t jealous; they’re correctly pointing out that rage-quitting is unsportmanlike. Geez…
This isn’t rage-quitting though. They ended a game prematurely that was over already. There was NO POINT to playing out that match. It was a wash. They should have been applauded for bringing the biggest issue to the table rather than accused for something they didn’t do.
IdrA is rage-quitting. Hungrybox in his jigglypuff mirror match against MaNg0 is rage-quitting. Kurt Russell playing chess against the computer is rage-quitting. What they all had in common is that they were winnable scenarios but the players decided to go with their emotional “easy outs”.
Zero Counterplay didn’t rage-quit, it was only one player that quit. That player should be applauded for saving time, bringing to light the huge problems of PvP, and ultimately ending a match that was decided already and putting the castors in an uncomfortable position after those castors stated THE GAME WAS ALREADY OVER AFTER THE FIRST CAP.
This argument implies that no decaps occurred at all during the ESL’s yesterday.
But they did.
Sugar-coat it all you want, rage-quitting is unsportmanlike.
Rage-quitting is unsportsmanlike. They didn’t rage-quit.

I have quit today because of this. I have sat through a lot of mistakes and still played the game. When the new system came out though I realized that it was another Xbox Live Arcade or Nintendo Points situation. I’m not supporting games like these, its a really disgusting tactic.
I play GW2 for my PvE and DotA 2 for my PvP, but I will gladly forsake PvE if they are being disrespectful to newer players. I buy bank tabs for newer players because the current rates can be rough. I help with my guild at times to make their day a little better. I sometimes support random people in Queensdale because Queensdale is the best Dale. This move in the gemstore, followed by Gail’s disrespectful comments, ended my time with Guild Wars.
I have used that dirty tactic before. I ran into the lord’s room in SMC and laid dead, tracking the enemy zerg’s movement the whole time. I do agree that they should at least make it look like the LoZ:Ocarina of Time death screen so you can’t contribute more than what your dead body should contribute.
Big rock executive here.
I assure you we are doing everything we can to find alternate munition sources for catapults in WvW. In the meantime, we are working with developing hybrid catapults that will shoot quaggans hugging rocks.
There has been a mesmer that for ages was teleporting and providing portals in LA jumping puzzles and in WvW. I caught myself reporting that player for the 3rd time and realized that nothing was being done about it. Later on down the road, that same person was discussed again in the recent season when whiners from JQ tried to paint everyone on Blackgate with the same brush just because of the actions of that one mesmer.
Its really frustrating. I value my ability to report. When I report in DotA 2, its because there is a serious infraction going and back in the early days of that beta you received a message that action was taken. That feature is now bugged so it doesn’t make me feel as special anymore, but that is beside the point.
When you take away my ability to report and ultimately allow people to manipulate the game any way you want so long as it doesn’t hurt the economy, then you start to lose integrity in the competition and the game.
I have played my Ranger as much as I could and almost did all the Meta Achievements in WvW Living Story with him.
That being said, Rangers are in a terrible position right now. Pets are horrible with their AI, glitch-y F2, and ultimately they are destroyed when it comes to AoE. We have little defense even when we stack defensive traits, runes, and attributes. Healing Spring is a good water field, but only when you are covering people on flame rams or dropping it in a position where you know the zerg will continuously stand. Spirits are meh at best and can die really fast.
Elites like Tangled Root and Rampage as One function differently, but Rampage as One is our only source of stability. We are pigeon-holed into an elite that is basically just a bunch of boons that can be stripped at any time. Traps have really low range even when traited and can’t do the damage and conditions as say a Necro or Mesmer. Excluding pets, we lack confusion, fear, and torment. Blind can only be applied underwater. Weakness requires a living pet with the Axe skill 3 (good luck with that) and burning is either on the seldom used Torch or from a trap field.
This ultimately results in my Ranger getting the cross-hairs immediately. I have had to on many occasions run behind my server-mates only to see the enemy still follow me as hard as they can. I am very defensive with a greatsword, frost trap, and increased movement speed but still draw incredible amount of aggro. They KNOW that if they catch me I am a free loot bag, but ArenaNet has failed to deliver a decent patch for the Ranger since…… wait, when was the last time???
Its partly everyones fault, especially in NA S1, money was offered, people took it, what can you do?
I can’t speak for henge, but I can say that FA bought no guilds. We had multiple large guilds transfer to FA just a day or 2 before seasons started once it was sure that we would be in silver league simply because they wanted that top spot, and that sure did clinch it.
FA didn’t need to buy guilds, they tanked their way to silver. FA should never have been in silver league and the match manipulation prior to leagues was embarrassing for the server and for the WvW team at ArenaNet.
Thought the talk of tanking would be left to the Toronto Raptors and the Houston Texans, but then I get a nice reminder that it can happen in any league.
I think for the next season, they really should have locked in everyone’s position right at the announcement and then start the season shortly after. That way, servers don’t become barren quick enough and integrity is maintained.
And yet someone that actually plays WvW more than for just the season one achievements would have done more than enough of those to have completed the meta in the 7 weeks it was possible without even trying.
Actually a purely roaming player, like myself, has to try to complete the meta.
I’ll break it down because I’m bored:
Big Spender: Easy, though I already had a large stockpile of badges, probably still easy for somebody who doesn’t
Camp Crusher: Easy within the 7 week timeframe
Guard Slayer: Much easier than it sounds, doable while doing other achievements
Castles in the Air: tap the door and you’ll get it, way easy @5
The Keep Is the Thing: same thing, really easy within the timeframe @10
Mists Invasion defender: This one seems like a joke, this is a daily
Advanced Mists Invasion Defender: Really easy even as a roamer, 10 kills a day would get you this
World Ranker: Challenging without using laurels, I think I would get about 35 ranks in 7 weeks otherwise
Master of Ruins: Really easy, almost insulting considering how ridiculous dolyaks and sentries are
Sentry Capturer Extraordinaire: Ridiculous but doable, also not fun in any way
No Tower Too High: a little tougher than keeps/castles, even though towers flip more often, it’s just the number of them. Still easy though.
Supplies Severed: No. This one is a no. I’d rather run across the entire map and waypoint back 225 times. Which is the same thing but easier considering you’re guaranteed to get it at least.
Mists Merc Camp Vanquisher: I didn’t even want to try for this one. Getting into EB is already a challenge. I could do this one as a roamer, but it’s really boring and I’d rather not.
Seasonal Mists Defense Restorer: This requires me to pay attention to things being attacked and either waste supply for hours on end or wait for the zerg attacking to be defeated and then repair. Extremely tedious, would rather not.
Demolition Expert: HAHAHAHA, nahThe jumping puzzles were easy, I’m glad they included those otherwise I wouldn’t have completed this I don’t think.
But if I only played 2-3hrs every other night then some of these might’ve been impossible.
Your cheevies looked about the same as mine up until a week ago. I only haven’t done the Merc meta.
About World Ranker, that one was indeed easy as well. Running with a winning zerg could easily net you a few ranking. Also, any toon that doesn’t have WvW exp can level up really easy because getting to Rank 5 takes way less experience. I did that for all my toons, yet didn’t really need it. If you have killed all the yaks and sentries you needed to kill plus taken the towers and camps, then you could have been able to get that Achievement easily. I don’t have experience with any of the lower tier servers, so that may be something that can work against you but shouldn’t still be impossible.
No commander in EB, no queue, and everyone just talking on all chat. So it begins…
Season 1: The Hangover
League was a joke, no one really earned the wins if you won it was because you were already recognized as the favorite and then band wagon ensured you would remain unstoppable.
Apparently, there was actually a poll that was conducted prior to the league which had SF/FC the favorites over HoD and Darkhaven. Look how that ended up. Also, many people held Kaineng to be favorites over HoD. HoD may have gotten some transfers but I’m pretty sure they earned it mostly by themselves.
Further, if you look at the other positions in the league, leagues weren’t a joke. Servers like Sorrow’s Furnace and Darkhaven really DID earn their place (as I’m bronze league that’s all I can speak of). Darkhaven worked day in and day out to improve and make sure that it was ready to beat SF, and it did. Sorrow’s Furnace got stuck in 2 matchups with HoD, and came out of that with some of the fiercest zergs in all of bronze.
I think your perspective is, to be honest, somewhat cynical/jaded (even though, of course, there is some merit, especially when it comes to the winners of the leagues).
Lets not also forget Jade Quarry were favorites to win because of taking in guilds from Blackgate and having an easier schedule. Look how that turned out. Blackgate will be one of six servers that will end the season undefeated. All six servers that went undefeated crushed their competition, and there are only six leagues….
I didn’t think anyone even cleared the silver titles yet. :O
That’s ridiculously high up there. To think though that its only about 1/6th of the way towards the highest title possible, Diamond Legend.
I have completed all the meta achievements except for merc camps. Awaiting that chest with the golden dolyak…
I would also like to thank the rest of the servers who played this season to the end. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best season possible but that would be none of our faults. Hopefully if ArenaNet makes another season, then it will be fair and more appealing to other servers and players.
Thanks for all the fights, drama, laughs, and ultimately a well-deserved first place.
grats to buygate!
I gotta ask, bro…
Its funny how these forums has made something they hated greatly one of the most wanted armor skin in the game now. Da forum community shouting them self in the foot over and over they will run out of tows soon.
haha too true, unfortunately the people who liked it were far overshadowed by all the nerdrage over it being too similar to t3, its a shame =/
I certainly think the bigger problem was that the skins were already in the game, they were just re-textured and sent out for the price of 800 gems. That’s just lazy. As for cultural armour, people were reasonably upset despite the two being different. The new armour did indeed look better than the cultural T3 and were far more convenient and cheaper to get. In the end though, they are alienating people who were putting time and effort into a skin all their own before these rolled out. People who were working on their cultural skins almost al simultaneously stopped playing while awaiting ArenaNet’s response.
I decided to vote with my opinion and dollar in the end, decided to skip the armour and not purchase gems.
All servers have bought guilds.
All servers have had guilds move off the server.
All servers have coverage holes (BG included).Nobody has any grounds to stand on.
However, Buygate buys entire servers!
and countries!
and entire planets!
Blackgate’s latest purchases were the Vigil Megalaser from Sparkfly Fen, the planet Mars, and Lebron James. Undefeated streak continues.
So I was talking with some Blackgaters and they got all mad and had to have to ask their whole guild to send in bans because they cannot handle some criticism.
You didn’t post the whole conversation, and you ultimately were reported for something you cannot confirm with us with that picture. I can easily assume what you said was abusive and warranted the reports. If other guildmates are reporting you, then either that person is just trying to scare you or you are legitimately that much of a cancer. Which is it?
~snip~
Regular BGers understand that. However, BG also lost SUPR, TKG, a lot of MERC, RISE and a bunch of smaller guilds on the leadup to leagues. We gained Omen, and ZDs who’s only staying for the season. Omen paid for their own transfers as far as I know, and we donated some gold to ZDs to help alleviate the transfer costs – they would’ve transferred over regardless.
Now, when us BGers see the “Buygate!” claims we get upset. We then reply with “hey you guys bought guilds too”, you get upset. Perfectly understandable. Now stop claiming that we bought guilds because it never happened. Our donation to ZDs is certainly a lot less than the alleged 20k~ gold JQ gave out to help guilds transfer to them.
Dude, we won…. They won’t stop crying because they lost…
All Blackgate is missing is the label “America’s Team”.
Hahahahaha yes, let’s make this happen. The irony would be wonderful.
It should happen, I’m glad I made that idea.
“WvW World Champions of NA, Blackgate AKA America’s Team.”
JQ tears.. sweet as ever
Meh I don’t see many people complaining but the guys who are the kitten minority
Not only are they a minority, they are also the minority of a minority by taking the time to post on the forums.
I get why people on SOR and JQ hate some BG so much, I mean for heavens sake were only 1 day into it and yall are claiming champion this, and undefeated that crap. No offense guys but we all know what is going on with seasons. Just get out there and enjoy a HEALTHY T1 matchup with fights and good strategy around every corner. Its your right to PVF if you want but it doesnt make you or BG look any better or do any better. Just my opinion.
Anyways hats off to all those enemies we faced last night in SOR BL was a really fun time we enjoyed it. Im sure we will see you tonight.
If you venture out of this thread and to other other threads on this forum, you will realize that the BG chest thumping actually gets worse than this. Regarding the matchup, at this moment, there’s nothing JQ and SOR can do especially that IRON has left SOR. If you notice, BG takes over the lead once again during EU time. It’s the weekends so NA can probably log in earlier, but during weekdays, it’s another 4 to 5 hours of uncontested capping by BG. Let’s hope season 2, both JQ and SOR can get a few EU guilds to make this time zone a little more competitive.
There was a time when BG/SoR/JQ were no different in terms of how bad their chest thumpers and trolls are…. But, IRON being self-banned from forums and then transferring, and JQ losing Seasons and their trolls… The only ones left are mostly BG. BG won PvF Season 1, too.
(I have to hand it to IRON, though. They were dedicated trolls. Unlike JQ fairweather trolls who showed up the 20 something hours when JQ had the lead and disappeared when JQ lost it in Week 5.)
I think we missed a grand opportunity with BG winning seasons. The forums would be alight with trolling if JQ ended up winning with their schedule, and chest thumping if SoR won with “we play for fights but we ended up winning wow such community”.
I think BG winning was probably the most generic fuel for the chest thumpers and trolls to feed off of. Very tame compared to what could have happened.
lol.. wow.. So let me get this right. This is all in just a few posts in this thread..
1) BG claims “World Champions of wvw” even though there is an EU bracket.
2) BG claims “undefeated in season 1” even though it’s only 1 day into the week.
3) BG claims “winner of pvf for season 1” just to continue chest thumping….
1) I didn’t see Vizunah Square get as much hate as Blackgate. All Blackgate is missing is the label “America’s Team”. Although, I would love to see the top of EU face us so we can have a challenge.
2) We probably have the highest gap in PPT for Tier 1 and also broke our competition. If we are undefeated, we are only predicting correctly. I don’t think Blackgate can be undefeated though, but we’ll see how focused Blackgate is.
3) I’m supposed to be humble when the server I have been on my entire time in GW2 wins in the face of people who incessantly whine? Right….
SoR eventually takes the plunge out of Tier 1.
Won’t happen. Not with BG losing some guilds(mainly ZDS) and SoR gaining quite a bit of guilds in a week or two.
Contrary to popular belief, ZDs leaving (if they decide to, keep in mind) won’t be enough to effect Blackgate. Winning week 1 without MERC together and with ZDs still in their home server meant that Blackgate was strong enough as it was. The times that ZDs came on were time slots that had queues. Blackgate’s interest in WvW has only grown in the past weeks with all the chest bumping, we will only a dull a bit.
I do hope SoR stays in Tier 1, I haven’t heard anything about other guilds coming in so that is refreshing to hear.
BG won match 1 because it was in SoR’s and BG’s best interest to keep the strongest server at the time, JQ, in third place. The second week BG was down nearly 20K by the end of the weekend, then ZDs transferred and by monday BG had taken the lead. And ZDS is leaving. They never intended to stay. There’s no “if”.
Yes, so Blackgate won match 1. We won even though SoR was the number 2, keep in mind. It was one mission to keep JQ third place because of the schedule, but its another to overtake SoR when you were considered the third wheel.
Also, its traditional for Blackgate to suffer the weekends. Our weekday coverage is far better though, anyone who played long enough against Blackgate will attest to that. ZDs helped and I am thankful for what they have done but in the end the point stood that Blackgate still had the forces already regardless during the weekdays.
Buygate, pay to win!

Server: Blackgate
League: Gold
Enjoyed Season 1: Yes
Should we have season 2?: Yes, but not until a HUGE overhaul
The Season was a success. Lets face it. People who didn’t care about WvW care now. The reason why you hear a lot of whining about losing in WvW is because more people care now. The point still stands though: the competition was not good enough for the season to be strong and fun. Blackgate steam-rolled all their matches. We have been complaining about guilds from other servers transferring away to lower tiers. Its hard to imagine that Blackgate will be so stacked for maybe months to come while other servers struggle to even get the coverage.
ArenaNet wanted to make WvW more populated with the season and it worked. However, if it doesn’t retain those numbers afterwards, then what is the point?
Also, I didn’t like the grind of the acheivements. I don’t want people repairing paper gates for cheevies. Why should I do WvW jps when three of them are just clones? I don’t want to be forced to slap dolyaks for your amusement. Maybe count the Defenders kills, Tower flips, and the such but don’t make jps and the like a part of the season when they have nothing to do with the objectives. The hardest people to reign in are the 15-20 from the zerg that all sit in the sentry spot that you asked to be left alone.
Grats BG, happy to see y’all walk away with it.
Decided on a whim to go to your guild website, its pretty awesome dudes.
Thank you for congratulating us, and thank you for a great season! Looks like we will see you in Tier 1 at this rate. Also, TC has a bigger turn out than I thought for WvW which was awesome.
Here comes the pain(fun). My anus is ready
I don’t think this week will be to tough on you ;P
We hope its tougher this week…
SoR is quite an enema, but I still feel like a piece of Blackgate is lost when SoR eventually takes the plunge out of Tier 1. I hope the leadership that was hiding under the shadows of the commanders that gave up and threw in the towel takes over. Sanctum of Rall is a fantastic server with a rich piece of history right in the server’s name.
Jade Quarry is a PvE server first, but we honestly thought that with the moving of MERC (at least a good number of the former guild) that we would have a hard contest. In the end, they just couldn’t do the job. Hopefully, Tier 1 remains competitive after that beating Jade Quarry took this season.
Beastgate, World Champs!
[AoL] Army of Lightness was there, too!
I would like to congratulate all the commanders, WvW players, and everyone who ran around and scouted. All the people who zerged, havoc’d, and kept our glorious in 1st place earned this.
Welcome to Week 7, and say hello to the World Champions; Blackgate!!!
Nah, you would lose to Vizunah; they invented the tactics that BG regularly use.
BG’s Tactic. If you cant beat em ,buy em.
JQ’s Tactic. If you can’t beat em, whine about em.
Congratulations to all those who participated these last weeks! It was a dramatic season with Blackgate dominating. I have had the most fun in GW2 these past weeks since Beta. Special thanks to commanders who gave it their all as we held off the competition.
Welcome to Week 7. Blackgate are now the World Champions of WvW!
Thankyou to SoR and JQ for the 2v1 in EB.
This is what I’ve been missed!
QQQQQQQQQ
No, seriously, we miss a challenge. We want to at least sweat a bit before we win.

GG all it was fun! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVEBi2QZwwQ#t=0
I was there… I was in the moment…
and I had supply…
That flame ram was a testament to all that is good about Blackgate.
All this talk about buying guilds and not one shred of evidence. Makes me a sad panda because I want to believe people don’t lie in the internet….
Blackgate has a rich, lively community. The commanders deserves loads of praise for their patience and dedication. I have enjoyed many hours playing with fellow players of Blackgate who were ranged from experienced to brand new in WvW. This season put a fire under everyone and the response from Blackgate has been amazing.
The insults, accusations, and whining is only proving one thing: Blackgate has been the best for the longest time and is universally hated for it. SoR and JQ have been terrific rivals. The people from MERC who left to JQ are missed and I wish they could have enjoyed this win with us. As we head into the end of the 5th week, we might have clinched the win already. This comes after the loss/gain of guilds, the powder puff schedule of JQ, and many moments of Blackgate having been 2v1’d in the beginning. It was a great ride that changed my guild to actually participating in WvW. I’m happy and the season was a success in my experience.
Just got back from spawn camping SoR. It was great! After so much complaining from SoR players, we just decided to slam onto SoR’s keep and spawn camp. We even did a costume brawl, put up merchants, and danced. No sense in humiliating a good rival in SoR, but when in the past SoR has done the same thing to lesser servers and complained so much about “bought this” and “bought that” we couldn’t help ourselves.
I am a native Blackgate player. Most of the zerg that spawn camped SoR are native to Blackgate as well.
Also, SoS didn’t necessarily agree to any 2v1. They outright avoided us and didn’t want to deal with our force. They were steamrolled twice much like how SoR was steamrolled repeatedly and decided to dance away from us. We allowed them to take your keep because it was in our power to without even having to communicate anything. Our queues are long, but no one complains other than the casual joke and sometimes “pls Anet, bynd mist now”. We even took SoS’s Stonemist Castle because we just felt like it, and then ran back to spawn camp again.
It was a good day, God bless everyone in Blackgate and all other servers. Be safe and have a great day. ^________^
Thank you for bringing this up before I could and thank you for understanding that a valued customer’s voice is the best way to change bad practice.
The Living Story Toxic enemies has no place in WvW, they are too random and cause too much disruption. Too many people are trying to figure out what is even the reason for it. The Living Story events are even very easy to accomplish with just a train in Kessex and doing some of the Dailies, so there is no need to clutter WvW. If a queue is long, then that usually is the perfect time to run around Kessex considering the latest Season has now made queues massive.
Yes, Blackgate always has good Oceanic coverage. We recently broke SoR and are taking again the top spot because of our coverage and great commanders. Also, Blackgate has a huge population so there is also great coverage all times for PvE events as well if WvW makes you burn out.
