I’ve been playing around with the API a little bit and noticed that Meteor Shower was missing from the files I downloaded. After digging around a little bit, I noticed that all of the Elementalist staff skills “4” and “5” were in fact missing.
I wanted to ask if that is on purpose or if there is something that might be done about that.

If you really didn’t care, you would not spend all your effort trying to attack the people who don’t like the change instead trying to talk about how excited you are for the change among people that agree with you. Both kinds of people exist on this topic, so why are you only talking to one of them?

No, I’m trying to get criers to stop crying. I don’t really care at all who plays or doesn’t play the raid. I’m not invested in the outcome of whether or not some random person plays the raid or doesn’t. All I would like is the completely out of proportion reaction from the Tear Force Complaint Squad to end. The forums encourage endless complaints from completely myopic individuals with no sense of what they are not entitled to.

Also it’s not a “change.” Every wing of the raid so far has required HoT masteries to get passed at least one boss.

Keep on fighting the good fight.

Well considering they either changed or broke the lighting in the entirety of AC, this could mean that they are actually touching dungeons again. Either that or the dungeons code doesn’t even get checked anymore and someone accidentally deleted/changed some game objects.

In all seriousness though, the defining element of Raiding is group coordination, so adding a solo mode would pretty much defeat the purpose of raiding.

Just take a look at some of the examples in the fights we have at the moment. None of them are particularly difficult on a personal level:

  • Run into green circle
  • Kill a wall
  • Immobilize a defenseless target
  • Avoid blue AoEs
  • Run in one of the cardinal directions, get launched and kill a stationary dummy target
  • Avoid a Wall that rotates at a constant speed

The challenge is created by requiring a group to communicate and collectively find solutions to a problem.

- I am afraid of a negligible gear-check, such as a Raid Leader absolutely requiring full ascended or gtfo. No compromise over whether you have that Vale Guardian Mini right next to you when you are running Exotic Armor with Ascended Weapons and Trinkets, but ill-informed elitism that bears no fruit and causes only strife. In fact, the ‘strictly armor’ difference in stats is so negligible that I might kick anyone in my raid that really gets on one person’s case for not having Armor, but all the right weapons, trinkets, build and strategy down. If you are going to throw out numbers, you gotta know where the line is folks…

Are we still discussing this? Basically I would give the same answer we have been giving for years when it came to dungeons: Got a group of friends? No Problem! Don’t like the lfg? Make your own lfg.
That being said I will expect people to best in slot gear/food, not because it is necessary, but because it is a sign of the dedication raiding requires.

- More importantly, I am fearful of players just…just conceding. This is actually my biggest concern. I can’t understand this mindset of seeing this wall in front, and outside of actual physical ailments, never going back to raid after just a single afternoon of attempts. It’s unfathomable that in a game where you progress originally through levels, through zones of different foes, through events of small or large magnitudes, that one isn’t entertained by the thought of slow but steady steps to overcoming a massive objective! It’s extremely likely I am just from a different generation of MMO gaming but it’s just aggravating to see players give up.

Honestly I think it is fair to concede. Raiding is not gonna be for everyone. If you just wanna dabble into it to see what all the fuzz is about but decide that it is not for you that is fair. I certainly never got past the dabbling stage in PvP or WvW.

I see you display same skill level of spamming staff water aa no matter what just as you did in vids you used for recruitment to your fractal run guild few months ago. nice utilities, perfect for healing others.

And your point? It took us around 44 mins to do FoTM 100 mai this way with this simple setup that requires very little effort, yet yeilds the same rewards.(There was around 15 Mins of AFK-Time in this vid and some post-run stuff making it 1h long). Do you honestly expect people to run around dodging everything and using every single skill on our bars and freak out? You’ve got to be kidding.
Fractals was never a challenge in the first place, the Pre-HoT 50 was a joke. Consistent 20-28 min runs with this setup, granted no dual guardians and heal ele ONLY* used on Mai Trin.
This video was made with a standard Zerk team setup on a FoTM 100 with mob toughness and HP heavily scaled. Running a DPS Condi team would’ve yielded 25-35 mins easily had we ran a different setup.

But you didn’t upload a 25 minute run with condition damage builds you decided to upload a 44 minute run and that’s what you are gonna get feedback on.

The question is what does the pool of highly-optimized teams look like? If none of them contain thieves, then Arena Net would not be meeting one of their many goals for the content they create. One of those goals is that each profession can perform in any role, just in their own unique way. Arena Net cannot have it both ways. They cannot have encounters that are so precise that only a group of eight engineers and two warriors can complete it, and meet their stated goals about professions. I also think few people really do want this level of precision (you may be an exception).

Since the party buffs are limited to only 5 people you can be fairly sure that not every class will make it for raids. And their goal was never that every class can play every role, they explicitly stated that during one of their panels concerning raids.
Also with dungeons and fractals we already have faceroll group content. No reason to add more of that. But you may be right, I may be the exception when asking for actually challenging content, especially considering the complaining about the “high difficulty” of the new maps.

Even if this is the case, and I find it quite difficult to measure “better” in this game when there is so much that can be done, this doesn’t mean there is no place for thieves in raids. It will be a rare group of friends or guild mates that wouldn’t bring one of their own along if the profession can contribute to raid success. Thieves would have to be in some miserable state not to bring anything to the table, but thankfully this isn’t the case. I have played many dungeons with thieves in my party and the content didn’t suddenly become impossible. I imagine raids will be much the same. An engi may be optimal, but a thief is viable. In the end, if you’re playing with friends, they will be fine with you playing the viable option. If you aren’t playing with friends I suggest you find a new guild where people will be welcoming to a non-meta, but viable, profession/build.

If you can beat Raids with anything but a highly optimized team comp, they might as well not have bothered making them in the first place and could have just added some more open world stuff that can be beaten by autoattacking on a staff guardian.

Concerns about aether path: so far it is still one of the most fun but also rather difficult pathes in games (i dare to say mechanically harder than a lot of fractal instances). How is nerfing dungeon rewards will affect this specific path? The path is already quite unrewarding and it is hard to find players to do it. Wouldn’t nerf to this path make it completely obsolete?

Isn’t that kind of the point of all this?

Of course it won’t do that. This is not supposed to be content that you can do casually like the dungeons we have right now. This is supposed to be content that you have to work for, not only concerning skill, but also preparation.
If you don’t even want to put in the time to get ascended gear or just play the content that rewards you with ascended gear anyway I highly doubt that you are the person that this content is aimed at.

what does grinding silk, or silverwastes have to do with a relatively short skill gated content?

I have ascended and a few legendaries, ill tell you that is in no way indictive of my readyness/ability/personality type to do raids.
Those things are all about repetitive grinds and logging in consistently. In other games, where gearing up requires you to go through progressively harder content at whatever pace is natural for you, i would say sure, the gates make sense. This is not the case in gw2.

Ascended gear is really easy to get for free from just playing the content that rewards it. The trick is to not grind for it, but to always do content that has a chance to reward it. Do fractals L50 a bit, or L40 if you think L50 is too hard. Go organize Triple Trouble wurm with TTS. Seriously, the amount of totally free ascended items I’ve gotten from doing these things over the years is enough to get at least one character a full ascended meta build after they added the ability to change stats. And before anyone cries RNG, it’s statistical inevitability when you do the content that rewards it enough.

he is thinking of this like person who has been playing for years.
fractals is nothing new, by the time you hit 35, While i do enjoy it, Having to repeat something 40-50 times for a 8% chance per day, per peice.
that means on average, it would take someone with average luck 12 runs X 6 pieces or 72 runs after they hit 50, with a daily timer.
thats average luck btw, for someone who is slightly below average luck that could easily be 2-3 times as long (note the people who couldnt get ascended rings even though they were level 25 when fractals came out, before they added pristine relics, and that was like a 30% chance)

That is not including all the other crap, and you are still talking about a time lag of 1-2 months before you can seriously be considered for raids.

1-2 months is not required to reach the skill level of raids.

Well I can’t talk for people that have been playing consistently since launch, but I started doing fractal 50 + 40 daily about 6 months ago. Since then I have gotten around 4 or 5 sets of armor out of the chests.

But like others have mentioned, armor makes has the smallest overall impact on stats. Far more important are trinkets and weapons.
You can easily get full trinkets in a month if you consistently do fractals and guild missions, taking up around 60-90 minutes a day. On top of just the trinkets you also have a chance for other ascended Equipment.
And like I have said before, if you are not willing to invest that time, then I don’t think that raids are aimed at you.

Choosing condi vs power engi?

If I remember correctly the group condi build has theoretically higher dps, but because it requires the enemies to camp in your napalm 24/7 the power build has more reliable dps in practice.
At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference since unless you pull of completely perfect rotations your damage will be most likely not differ that much between builds.
Also like you said, when an enemy has condi immunity don’t use condi, even though due to its hybrid nature it is not completely terrible.

I am not a engi main though, so if someone has a better/different answer, trust them

Just FYI the trees at the Priest of Melandru seem to work in a similar way now. As soon as you disengage for a second the trees reset to the position of the boss, even though he does not reset (well some of them for that matter, haven’t really figured out what makes them not teleport).

7. I know that you can still do it on two classes, thief and warrior.
For thief you take withdraw, roll for initiative, shadowstep and signet of initiative, like so: https://youtu.be/zlDu192lR2M
If you want to make it a lot easier you can take shadowtrap instead of roll for iniative. start with sb5 shadowstep, place the shadowtrap, use the return skill and withdraw, then wait a bit and shadowstep + withdraw to the end. First one is a lot faster though.
On Warrior I am not too sure, I think you can do it quite easily with an fgs + defiant stance. Don’t blame me if you die halfway through though.

8.) In an organized group you can burst the anomaly down in one go without having to switch to a ranged weapon. Otherwise I guess you can take a ranged weapon on swap for after the first burst, although even then I usually don’t bother to be honest and just wait a few seconds to get back into melee.

TL;DR: Support and Control were never meant to be limited to one class. Every class brings their own form of support, which is why in the current PvE Meta every class brings in a little bit instead of having one tank or healer. However I would consider every build viable as long as you complete the content.

There is a very interesting Blog Post (http://gw2101.gtm.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/combat/healing-death) from back when Guild Wars was announced concerning the combat system. Here are the parts concerning Healing and Tanking specifically:

Heal: Don’t belittle the SUPPORT role by calling it heal. Healing is the least dynamic kind of support there is. It is reactive instead of proactive. Healing is for when you are already losing. In Guild Wars 2 we prefer that you support your allies before they take a beating. Sure, there are some healing spells in Guild Wars 2, but they make up a small portion of the support lines that are spread throughout the professions. Other kinds of support include buffs, active defense, and cross-profession combinations.

Tank: This is where Guild Wars 2 makes the biggest break from the traditional MMO setup. Tanking is the most rudimentary form of the most important combat fundamental, CONTROL. Every game has it, yet it always seems to get a bad name. In Guild Wars there was Knockdown, Interrupt, Weakness, Blind, and Cripple, to name a few. We wanted to build upon what we think makes control such an important part of dynamic combat.

In my Personal Opinion I think that
1. This creates one of the most interesting combat systems i have seen in an mmo so far. The Problem is, that none of these mechanics have been implemented in a way, that makes an encounter truly challenging, meaning that you won’t succeed unless you take advantage of all of them correctly. But then again those would be encounters you could not beat in a casual group, which is considered a bad thing by a huge part of the playerbase.

2. The current PvE meta is incorporating both systems. Have you ever wondered, why there are other classes besides elementalists in the meta comp, even thought the ele has the best personal dps? The current PvE meta is first and foremost based around the idea of support which makes it possible to run glassy setups and achieve times that are that good.

As others have suggested, there are a lot of people who have a similar mindset like you and don’t think about efficiency. If you can beat content with your build it’s viable. Open up a group and you will find someone. When I run with friends and we need a 5th for an easy dungeon path, we often try different role descriptions, just to see if we find someone. We have had healing warriors, tanking guardians and condition damage focused thieves. Main point: they are out there.

In a PvP match today i noticed that “burning retreat” sent me flying halfway across the map when used it in an enemy timewarp. Decided to do some testing after the match, here is the result.
Not only does slow siginificantly increase the range of the greatsword rush, but it also seems like swiftness is increasing the range even futher, when used under the effects of slow.
