You can always try finding a beautiful area (I found a couple so far) with a lot of hiding places and try a guild ‘hide-and-seek’ event :P If it’s just for laughs, it’ll sure be fun :P
Back in WoW, we did that a couple of times, and it was fun as hell :P All on vent and let the giggles commence :P
Also, a scavenger hunt can be fun. No waypoints, no speedboons, just you, your 2 feet and a list of cheap kitten items that can be gathered only from certain vendors. Takes a bit of an effort to set up, but I really liked the afternoon we spent doing this
@ProxyDamage: the dailies are just as generic and boring as before.
Oh are they? How exactly are the new task “as generic and boring” as repeating the exact 4 kittening tasks every single day? Saying you don’t like the new ones is an opinion. Saying they’re equally generic and boring to the old ones is simply factually and demonstrably wrong.
I don’t get how you’re so easily fooled, but:
-revive 15 allies < BORING
-kill 5 veterans < same as killing 60 mobs, boring!
-kill 13 different kinds of creatures < wow, 2 less than usual? BORING!
-gather 20 things < they didn’t even bother to change this one
-craft 10 useless items < sure, it’s quick, but still: BORING!
-kill 25 underwater creatures < OMGSOF’INGBORING! I hate underwater combat in this game
-complete 5 events, every day < well, I kinda like it, but because it’s just the same as pre-patch: BORING!These are not the dailies we were promised!
As opposed to doing the same 4 kittening tasks every single day? Was that somehow better and more enjoyable for you? Was it better when they only rewarded Karma, and Karma was a kittening useless currency? Did they also issue a statement saying “Welp, that’s it! That’s all we’re doing with daily quests!”? I must have missed it.
Get off your kitten people.
Completing the same 4 tasks every day that actually were based around general gameplay wasn’t a task by itself. Now, to complete the dailies, you actually have to stop playing the way you like to play, and focus on dailies.
Like the dodging, it took me a long time, because usually I kill my opponents from a distance, without having to dodge even once. Run around a little, kill kill kill. Easy. Now, I actually had to stop using abilities, stand still and wait for an incoming attack to get the ‘evade’ and more often than not, I had to wait a long time to get that evade as well, because you have to wait until the last second to dodge.
Killing 13 instead of 15 variety mobs? It’s the same as before. Killing 50 instead of 60 mobs, same as before. Gathering 20 things, same as before. Completing 5 events, same as before, but I still like events so no problem there, except that there are too few different kinds of events. They’re all pretty much the same, and they start to become boring after leveling 4 characters to 80.
Reviving 10 NPCs, easily done, but still, I have to go look for NPCs to revive now. It’s boring.
The only ‘new’ thing they added is crafting 10 things, and that’s just lame. Is that really all they can come up with?
We were promised dailies that would draw us to specific areas. I rather like a daily mission that gets me out of my usual game, but not out of my usual playstyle. I would love it to force me to go to Caledon Forest on one day, and to Fields of Ruins the next. As I said before, I love small specific tasks, even if it means grouping up with others. The thing about this is that a lot of people are doing the dailies, so why not combine forces and actually do something awesome like downing a champion, or a dragon, or a specific dungeon boss?
These new dailies are just as generic and boring as before, because they didn’t change. They only added a couple of ‘variations’ of the old, boring dailies. Sure, you get a laurel for it and that’s the only interesting part about them.
I’d love to get like 1 or 2 really specific tasks like killing a specific dragon or champion somewhere. That way a lot of people will be traveling to the same location, will be grouping up to conquer that 1 enemy and it will make you explore more than you might do by yourself. It won’t take much longer than the current time needed to complete the dailies solo, but it will feel more epic. And isn’t that what this game should be about? Doing something epic with a group of friends?
@ProxyDamage: the dailies are just as generic and boring as before. I don’t get how you’re so easily fooled, but:
-revive 15 allies < BORING
-kill 5 veterans < same as killing 60 mobs, boring!

These are not the dailies we were promised!
I really love Xephen.3217’s idea, complete a variety of awesome things. And they don’t even have to be so specific (in case of the champion). But killing a certain boss in a certain dungeon is a good daily. Completing a certain Jumping Puzzle is awesome – imagine the masses jumping and falling through that JP, the thought makes me smile! Completing a specific event might be a little hard with respawn times etc. But if done well, we could be in for 1 massive event, which is what I love about this game.

Yeah, and no news ever since… Anet is doing a great job at keeping the community up-to-date with whatever they’re working on … As far as I know, they’re just raking in the money and chilling out ’pon da beach or something…
I dare you to repeat that in about 12 hours from now, after the patch hits?
In business there’s this thing called “priorities”. Making silly apps is not one of them at the moment and rightfully so.
I do you one better, I’ll repeat it now, well into the new patch.
Making ‘silly apps’ was part of the original plan to extend the game experience past the computer, so far, the game experience has been dying out on us with more and more generic and repeated content.
Take these new dailies per example. They’re just as generic and boring as the other ones were, except that now you actually have to focus on doing the dailies, instead of just playing the game.
They’re messing things up more and more with every new patch and people all around me are complaining more and more about how Anet keeps letting us down with what they call ‘an expansion worth update’… Expansions like this don’t deserve a penny. “Add an NPC here, add a campfire here and a sign here. Look guys, we’ve made an expansion!” My 3 year old nephews make bigger ‘expansions’ a bunch of times a day, and this is all Anet can come up with after a month?
@Hellzfire: it might be me, but your logic seems way off…
First of all, pretty much everything we do can be considered a serverside ‘thing’… Look, a tree I can chop down, that’s a serverside thing. Oh, I did 500 damage, that’s definitely a serverside thing. Look, other players, those are serverside things. Get a grib on reality dude, you’re playing an MMO, half of the game is loaded from the server, only a small part is actually done clientside, and that’s the static world (textures, unmovable/permanent objects etc.), everything that’s even remotely dynamic (walking NPCs, weather effects etc.) are all calculated serverside.
Now, even if you could get any useful information about upcoming dailies, why would someone buy low level crafting mats, if it’s not part of the achievement?
And if it is part of the daily, so far they come in bundles: gather 20 things and craft 10 things in 1 daily, which makes buying the mats very counter productive.
Apart from that, I have yet to see 1 daily that actually makes you go to a certain area. So far, they’re generic as hell and can be completed anywhere you want. So, you might sell your green wood logs, but I’ll be collecting soft wood, because I have a character who needs that.
(edited by Dastor.3546)
And again I feel lied to.
The new dailies would make you travel the world, travel to all areas for specific tasks. They’d be exciting and different every day.
So far, it’s the same generic crap that we got before the update.
So if you’re asking me, you could’ve left ’em like they were Anet. You just made things worse! Show a little creativity next time you update something.
I’m guessing Vabbi EU isn’t very popular on the forums here?
We’re the underdog, people usually love the underdog…
14 hours later, the topic has disappeared down the list, but the guild has started growing :P Probably not a big surprise, considering people seem to love the guild tag :P
Would you love to have a pwning guild tag like [PWN]? Are you a mature person? An active player? And playing somewhere in the EU? Well, give me a buzz and we’ll see what we can do for each other!
Yeah, and no news ever since… Anet is doing a great job at keeping the community up-to-date with whatever they’re working on … As far as I know, they’re just raking in the money and chilling out ’pon da beach or something…
@Garambola: If you’re in the EU, do them now. If you’re not, you might still want to do them. Either they reset upon launch, because they’re different achievements. Or they won’t, but the launch will be so late, that you won’t have time to finish them anyway.
Almost noon here, still no news from Anet… I’m going to do something fun and challenging, and when all that becomes too much, I might just log back into GW2 to see if they’ve added something fresh and exciting yet … Boring!
Playing With Newbs [PWN] is, as the title says, a brand new guild on the Medium populated server Vabbi EU, and we’re looking for mature and social members to strengthen our ranks.
We plan to do some weekly guild events (dungeons, WvW, JPs, exploring and just lame kitten giggly-fun, majority rules) as soon as we’ve got enough regulars who are interested in more than just their own behinds.
Interested? Reply here, send me a PM or look me up in-game.
PS. as soon as we’ve got enough people, I will make sure there’s an online forum and a mumble-server for the guild
I still don’t get why they release a patch on the date itself?
If I was running an MMO, I’d think like: “Hey, so we want to release an update on the 28th. So, let’s make sure it’s at least downloadable the 26th and include ‘when-to-go-live’-times in the code, so that people can play it as soon as they’re supposed to, in whichever timezone they’re located…”
It’s 28/01/2013 9.28AM here, and I was just logging in to see what those new dailies were about and if there are any hints to the events unfolding this week, but no, nothing. Same old, boring dailies.
As so many have already posted in the ‘make or break’-topic, I too am starting to doubt whether GW2 will be in it for the long run. WoW wasn’t all what I wanted, but it sure did a better job at making sure to have some interesting content for all levels, all of the time… Leveling starts to become boring, because you’re always limited to the same few areas, WvW is boring if you’re on a ‘low’ populated server like me (Vabbi EU), not to mention the impact ‘less active’ servers have on getting decent dungeon groups started.
I’m not sure if it happened because of dying from a fall, but my level 7 engineer has a damaged chest, yet only died from falling in Hoelbrak.
I found out, after clearing a few events in Metrica. I haven’t died in battle so far, yet my chest has been damaged?
So far, I’ve only ever had damaged gear after dying in battle, not from falling and never randomly. Is this a new bug?
One of my guildmates needed some crafting materials. I had a whole bunch, so I was willing to sell mine for a cheap price to my guildmate. But because of the TP hoarders, I didn’t feel it to be safe to do it through the TP.
And without a decent C.O.D. or actual trade thingie, I don’t feel comfortable sending someone 3g worth of materials just like that. For me, 3g is quite a bit of money, so I like to be absolute sure that I get what I deserve.
Maybe add a postal cost, so that it’s either pay a small 10c fee per mail (+10c per item attached) or be next to each other so you can trade for free.
(edited by Dastor.3546)
I tried this just a few minutes ago.
The whole bypassing the launcher thing makes it a little annoying. Black screen while updating for unknown time? That’s gotta be scary for some people – me included…
Other then that, TP seems to work, the overlay works fine, don’t understand why they took the guide off of the wiki?
I partially agree with the topic starter.
At the moment, I’m getting fed up with people joining my guild and then representing another, until they get invited to do a dungeon run. This is not the way a guild should work.
People in a guild should all be working together to make the guild great, not switching around whenever it suits them. That totally defeats the purpose of a guild, now players are just switching around to benefit themselves as much as possible, letting other players work for their benefits.
I’d love to have one-guild-per-character functionality. Get one character to join this guild, another in that guild etc. But if you want to join a new guild, you have to leave your other guild first.
If you want to play with another guild, no problem, but being part of a guild shouldn’t be taken as lightly as it is now.
Actually, I agree that waypoints are too expensive at level 80. From Orr back to LA costs me about 3s. Most hearts and events don’t get me that much, which means I have to play for 30 minutes without using any waypoints, just to make up for traveling once. Why then are there so many waypoints?
I like the suggestion where 100%‘ing a map would give you like a 50% to 100% discount on using the waypoints while in that area.
Could be because I’m Dutch (wink wink), but I actually run everywhere, just because it takes too long for me to make my money back, without doing dungeons.
I got stuck in the map, in Sparkfly Fen.
I was just exploring, climbed up to a vista, saw some kind of cave-like entrance, walked in, dropped down into a huge hole. Walked around a bit, looking for a way to get out again. Found what looked like an exit, just to find out I was at the backside of the graphics.
I agree with Wildcode.
I spent entire level 79 to 80 grinding Grawl (that’s 200k worth of experience, with just 500/600 exp per mob). Dropped 2 bones, 2 totems and the rest was junk and a white salvagable here and there :S
I ran from Lion’s Arch to Fort Trinity, killing mobs along the way, doing some events, and in the lower areas, it seemed mobs had a rate of around 80% for blue crafting mats… Then I got to Straits, and the droprate was gone again, just junk…
So, to me, the question is pretty much answered… nerfed. As if the game wasn’t enough of a grind :S
(edited by Dastor.3546)
Well, I’ve been leveling my mesmer, and I must say, it seems more a higher level issue than anything else.
While I was leveling, I actually found 2 rares by just questing, I didn’t even notice them until I was selling my junk.
Now I’m 79 and trying to get some crafting materials for my rare gear, so I can get some decent gear as soon as I hit 80 – I was hoping I’d get enough within the time it took to grind 200k experience, but I’m about to ding (took me 40 minutes of killing crawl) and I have only found 1 large bone. The rest was junk, junk all around… Half of the crawl didn’t drop anything, about 40% dropped junk and the remaining 10% dropped salvage-able stuff…
Might be nice to add here that I have 10% magic find on my leveling gear, and while leveling, I got plenty of crafting mats. At one point during last weekend, I even thought some of the mobs (grub in the big south-western cave in Harathi) had a 100% droprate…
So, I don’t think the droprate is broken necessarily, I think ArenaNet just changed the droprate for higher level items. As someone else already wrote, probably to get people to buy more gems to buy gold to buy the crafting mats for high level/end game gear… It’s your basic scam for money and I don’t like it, at all… I’ve got 2 friends who were going to buy this game for Christmas, but I talked them out of it. Or at least, told them to wait, see if anything changes. Because bugs keep popping up, and ArenaNet isn’t taking responsibility and isn’t communicating to their playerbase (even though that last one, was one of the reasons why I started playing GW2. On all the interviews I saw, they gave the impression that they actually cared about our opinion, that they actually stood closer to the players than any other MMO I’ve ever played… Guess that was just a ‘scam’ as well…)
Spent 2 hours fighting a Legendary Champion in Orr the other day. Finally got it down, we all got a mere blue :S Felt like such a waste of time, we didn’t even bother with the rest of the event-chain and just went back to Lion’s Arch…
I usually love Open World PvE, but it seems it’s just not worth your time.
Every event restarts 10 minutes after you finished it, completely killing the feeling of ‘yeah, we killed the kitten and took over the city!’ (Talking about Harathi here) Spend hours following the chain, killing multiple champions at the end, you get a blue, or a green, from the chest and then 5 minutes later, it all starts over again. The mobs don’t even get the chance to leave the camp – they’re actually still there after you killed their boss, they never leave, probably because they know their mates have only gone for a toilet break :S
I was so excited about this game when I first started playing, but it’s been a let down the further I progress – I’m actually leveling a second character, and experiencing more and more of the same issues/frustrations…
So, this is the second time I died in the fire-path and it’s making me angry…
I’m clearly not in reach of the flames, yet I got damaged by them – twice, to kill me…
This isn’t even the first time something like this has happened to me, clearly there is a bug with the ‘area of effect’ of a lot of scenery and even skills (I’ve gotten damaged by karka skills even though I was outside of the red circl)
I just finished it a few hours ago, first try, no problems at all…
Asura / Mesmer / Priory – Vabbi EU
I am actually on that part of the storyline as well, I’ll go try it now and report my findings back here.
Might be smart to add info like class/profession and race.
EDIT: 5 hours later, I still haven’t started it yet, got distracted :P And now I need to do stuff, so, hopefully I’ll add my findings here later today.
(edited by Dastor.3546)
As I said, I already have the 20% cooldown reduction on those.
And including the major trait for the 20% cd reduction on staff skills, I should get 40% reduction on my skill 2 and 3. Therefore, a 6 second phase retreat, and an 11 second warlock.
If they don’t reduce all skills, than they shouldn’t have written 20% cooldown reduction on staff skills…
I also found someone else writing about the combination of the traits, a couple months ago, saying that he indeed got a 6 second phase retreat. That’s where I got the idea for this build. It seems like they ‘nerfed’ it, and thus made the major trait rather useless…
So, I finally got my major trait that reduces my staff skills by 20%, just to find out it only affects 2 skills… What kind of misleading trait is that? It said 20% cooldown reduction for staff skills, but it only goes for skill 4 and 5, not for the first 3? :S
I was expecting a 6 second phase retreat, and an 11 second warlock, and even a faster auto-fire, but noooo…
Is it cause I already had the 20% illusion summoning skills reduction? Because that’s just lame then… Waste of 5 perfectly good points, right there…
I’d love this to be fixed as well… I’m level 55 now, been using a staff since level 10, and I’ve spent about an hour inside terrain…
It’s annoying, to say the least, and happens way too often. Sometimes you can blink/phase retreat out, but usually I end up having to log out – since I’m usually in combat, which doesn’t go away until the mob dies, but yeah, that’s not going to happen when I’m stuck in a rock, tree or random wall – and use a waypoint…
The below screenshot is on top of a cave, in Gendarran Fields, near the South Eastern vista.
Agreed. Totally.
Went there yesterday with a friend, and we were actually just yelling at each other during our entire stay. Eventually we decided to leave, because it was just a huge pain to be there. We never got to the lvl 80 zone, just crossing the Cursed Shore and Malchor’s Leap was enough for us to portal back to Fort Trinity.
Really bad part of the world, there, I wouldn’t even dare to go there solo …
It’s just a bonus, not necessary…
For people who like leveling more than end-game content, it could be a lot of extra fun.
I, for one, have always loved leveling, I like end-game content, unless it means I need to farm before I can enjoy it. I don’t like farming/grinding, so I just level a new character. Having the benefit of reincarnation, would allow me to level my 2nd profession a little bit faster/easier, then having to start a whole new character.
Any chance a community manager/dev could pop in here and express their thoughts on the subject, maybe share information about what the GW2 team at Anet is doing about this annoying feature?
My level 8 mesmer is having big trouble getting through a skritt cave in metrica province, just because his damage is still slow and the respawn is too fast… I kill 2 skritt, procede into the cave, kill 2 more… While kiting the 5th and 6th, the first two respawn and join the fight :S Annoying to say the least…
Maybe steal some of the mechanics from the way WoW has this.
Get a nice ‘Dungeon-tool’, be able to queue yourself, cross-server possibly, and after your party has been found with random people, do your thing.
Maybe make it so that you have to be in/near the dungeon you want to queue for, just because I always hated the portalling… I like the idea of having to get yourself to the dungeon… Maybe make sure only a maximum of 2 per class/profession are allowed in a group, just for the sake of diversity…
‘PUGs’ have some drawbacks, but whether they’re randomly selected or just found in the world, it doesn’t change most of them…
I like the idea
1 pick having a 100 charges is just as weird as them not stacking to ‘fill up the charges’…
A pick that goes dull or breaks, sure, but having 100 charges is just weird… I’ve never gone to a shop to buy a shovel with just 100 charges… I want to use it for at least a bunch of years, when I buy one…
So, yeah, I agree, let them stack/fill up each others charges… It makes sense…
I’m not going to bother reading all the posts, just to the topic starter:
Why would you recommend a subscription-style second version of the game, when the core game is bugged and flawed at the moment? Just to hire more programmers to fix the bugs for the 2nd version? They’ll need even more programmers to then implement the fixes in the first version as well, while still writing updates for the 2nd version.
Let them first fix the normal/core version so that at least people can enjoy that one without too many frustrating bugs and annoyances.
If all you want are more skins and add-ons, why not buy them from the Gem store? Recommend them to add (more) skins – not weapons/armor, just the skins – to the gem store, and you’d basically get what you’re asking for, except having to pay for a billion different skins that you’re not using. You’d be able to buy the 8 skins you actually do use, and never mind the rest… I’d think that would be a nice idea, for those of us with deep pockets.
As a long-time WoW player, I’m not one to back off the whole subscription thing, but as it is now, I would quit GW2 right away if they started to make it pay-to-play.
Next to that, having 2 versions will create a massive rift between the communities. Especially if one version is superior to the other. People will not switch over, because GW is, and has always been, pay-once-to-play-forever. It would probably drive away a huge chunk of the community.
Next to that, the end game content is too little, to actually keep playing after being level capped for a month. So they’d lose another big chunk of players because of that.
I’m guessing, adding a subscription-based 2nd version, could be an even earlier death of the game. I say ‘even earlier’, because if nothing happens to all the bugs and annoyances, the game will die a rather early death already…
(edited by Dastor.3546)
And here we go again, Dredgehaunt Cliffs, next to the Travelen’s Waypoint, there’re instant respawning Sons of Svanir.
Not just one, no, 4 of them. I killed 2, get an instant respawning Veteran and a normal. Both casters, keep getting ice nailed on my head, because I can only dodge it 3 times – using a new survival spec with GS.
It’s just annoying…
I’m really hoping some Dev actually reads these forums and is looking into the whole respawn-rate problem, because if this keeps up, I’m probably going to quit the game soon and tell the few friends that are considering joining me, to not bother with it…
(edited by Dastor.3546)
Another thing about respawn rates: me and like 10 others just finished a chain-event thingie in Harathi. We conquered all the centaur camps/villages… I haven’t even left the area, suddenly I’m getting attacked by centaur, that we just killed?
Even worse, 5 minutes later, the whole event chain starts again… Was it all for nothing? Did we really just kill 4 champions, for nothing? That was a waste of (about) an hour … Seems rather pointless to participate in these events now, except for the daily, maybe…
I like most of your suggestions, but in-game voice chat is a terrible one.
Probably it’s just me, because it could be done pretty well, but I prefer a decent program like Ventrilo or Teamspeak.
This sounds interesting…
I like the stat-bonus. That way, you could reincarnate a couple of times – once per class/profession, I’d say – and end up playing your favorite class with a bunch of nice stats benefits. Start as a warrior, reincarnate as a thief with +1(per level) power, reincarnate as a mesmer with +1(per level) power +1(per level) precision etc.
I agree. I really miss the possibility of dueling my friends.
It’s not even limited to just events, although they often spawn in the most inconvenient locations.
A few examples of gameplay that I do not understand:
1: in the area below Lion’s Arch (don’t know what the area is called), as a level 60, I should’ve been more powerful than any creature I could run into there, except for Champions. I can easily solo any veteran I have yet come across, but here there was an event to kill an Alpha Drake. The creature was not marked as veteran or champion, yet I could only bring it down to 10%, while having to heal myself 3 times, and I still ended up dying, because of respawns and just the immense attack power of the Alpha Drake. Why isn’t this creature marked as Champion? The same thing happened a little further, battling a ghost pirate. Although it wasn’t respawns, just his attack power. I kept crippling it and running while waiting for my heal to come of cooldown. I dodged most his attacks, yet 1 simple swipe of his sword was enough to bring me down to near death, again and again.
2: Decided I’d go explore an even lower level area, I ran into a cave, looking for a skillpoint. I battled my way through some cave trolls (pulling one, line of sight to make sure it’d come to me so I don’t accidentally pull more I can handle) I still got 4 of them following. I killed them, battle through some more mobs, killed the veteran harpy with ease, ran down, try the same thing with the respawns (seriously, took me 15 seconds and they’ve already respawned?) I pull one again with my thrown… 6 follow this time, of which 2 are ranged shamans, and even dodging half of their attacks, I end up getting downed twice, rallied once, died the second time.
3: I’m repairing my armor in a village, all of a sudden an event hits me, and 6 skritt kill me before I can even exit the repair window.
4: An event marked as solo, kill a shaman to interrupt the ritual. I thought I’d give it a try. First I took care of some of the mobs around it, so I’d have plenty of space to run and heal, just in case. I then take out the 2 accompanying mobs, but they instantly – yes, instantly – respawn. No way that event is supposed to be a solo event… Every time I kill the adds, they instantly respawn, forcing me to battling the shaman and ‘semi-ignore’ the adds, but that’s not possible either.
Mobs seem to be spaced too close, respawn too fast and as a solo player, there’s nothing you can do about it, except play really carefully.
Now, I’ve actually just logged off, because I was getting really upset with all of this.
I like a challenge, but so far it’s more annoying than challenging. Things don’t seem balanced (I play a warrior, dual axe + sword/shield, looked up some different builds for inspiration, currently running with a mainly DPS build, with a few survival traits).
Veterans I understood were meant to be a challenge, but are way too easy. Normal mobs die quickly, and I can easily manage 3 or 4 at the same time, but with the respawn rates and the density in most areas, you often get more than you can handle.
I can easily manage myself against higher level mobs (even 2 or 3 at the same time) and veterans, so I’m pretty sure it’s not me being a terrible player. I might not be an amazing player, but this is just plain ridiculous… When I’m questing with 1 or 2 friends, everything is too easy. When questing solo, even in low level areas, it’s frustratingly impossible…
There doesn’t seem to be any kind of balance…
As I didn’t see a dedicated topic about this, I decided to create one.
I’m getting rather tired of dying when solo’ing, because while I’m killing something/someone, mobs that I killed 10 seconds earlier, respawn and join the fight again… Especially the kritt are notorious for this. You kill 4 at a time, because they group up, but while battling the 4 after them, the 4 previous ones suddenly join in. How am I supposed to survive battling 8 mobs at the same time? They each hit me 2 times within a second or 2, and I die before even being able to cast a healing spell…
It’s really annoying to not be able to take a breather, just because mobs keep popping up behind you.
I had an event in Fields of Ruin yesterday, where I had to rescue villagers. I actually leveled up from killing the mobs, before even finishing the event. Half a level, by just killing the harpies over and over again. It was so annoying, I eventually didn’t even finish the event, leaving all 6 of the villagers ‘captured’, because I got tired of killing the harpies over and over again.
As I’ve seen more people suggest the respawn rates to be adapted, either to player activity or just slowed immensely, I’m guessing this is either already being looked in to, or has to be mentioned again for it to finally happen. After 60 levels of this, it’s far past annoying, and nearing game ruining…
The event finished in 15 seconds … What a waste of code…
Whole bunch of people and only 3 karka to kill…
And then there isn’t even a reward for wasting your time waiting for 30 minutes :S
Yesterday was a fail, today was a fail, the ‘questline’ is a fail… Total failure event, ArenaNet… Get your stuff in order before trying something like this again, please…
Apparently they twittered this evening
Just gotta love the fact that even they don’t use their own forums to communicate.. Thank you for doing Anets job and communicating on their own official forums.
Totally agree.
And I just want to add: as far as ‘world changing’ events go, this is the worst I’ve ever experienced. Yesterday the pirate ship sunk – I wasn’t there, because I already made plans for yesterday evening. I would’ve loved to be able to experience it today, but sure, I get it, one time is one time. However, when swimming to the ocean floor today, I couldn’t find a pirate ship anywhere. Had a friend show me where it supposedly sunk, but it wasn’t there at all… World changing my kitten #8230;
Yes it was laggy, but better then other MMO’s I have seen during a major event like this.
You never played WoW then… Never had any lag issues during major events there…
And I’ve participated in pretty much every event, with a whole bunch of people… The worst I’ve ever experienced was 2 DCs on a Sunday with 3 overlapping events while in the major city, pretty much every player was online at that time…
The ArenaNet servers should really be upgraded for future updates/events like this…
Stuck on Vabbi(EU) as well… For about 2 hours already…
Lost shores. bugs and confusion from the beginning. Noll = nillappear?
And generally, I know they don’t want to spoon feed people but they could at least make it slightly more fun for the casual gamer. at the moment its frustrating and confusing and putting people off the game.
They don’t want to spoon feed people? I feel like a lot is being given to me without any effort, where other things are impossible to find… Like, storyline is one big bowl of pudding with a sexy maid feeding it to you, whereas some heart-tasks have ‘event items’ that are to be handed in to unknown and nowhere-to-be-found NPCs… I’ve been running around with a bag full of event items, not knowing where to hand them in. And when I finally do find the NPC, they don’t even take them? Now I’m just throwing away the event items as soon as I see I picked some up, they’re just a waste of space, when they could’ve been a nice little addy to complete quests faster…
I have AVG2013, I had the same problem, but to me it seemed more a server issue than AVG issue… As after I installed the update, I haven’t had the same problem again. It was just Thursday night, when the update had just gone live…
And a friend of mine, who doesn’t have AVG, has the same problem as well. He’s been stuck at 50/60% since Thursday evening, has had the downloader running since then and it just doesn’t do anything…
I was yesterday evening, I’m thinking the servers are being overrun with people downloading the update and everything…
Hi,
As a new Guild Wars player, I first like to say: good job on the new game. I skipped the first, because I was already a WoW fanatic, and it would be taking a major step back, but GW2 is actually on the verge of taking me over.
One of the issues I have with this game, though, is the fact that if I’m partied with some friends, and we have a quest, we still have to do quest progression by ourselves. We can be completely out of sync this way. I kill a mob, they kill 2 of them, all of a sudden, they’re ahead of me, because I’m lower level and therefore take a little longer. I destroy an object, and I take the lead, because they can’t anymore. Unless we’re always running to the same place at the same time, we’ll always finish the quest by ourselves…
In WoW, one of the things I like a lot about the game, is that when partied with a friend, you actually always progress together. There’s no apparent reason for parties in the way GW2 works currently, except for keeping track of someone’s location and maybe dungeons, they could just be random people and it wouldn’t affect anything in my game/world…
Or, it could just be me?
