When I don’t have to run PU for my guild, all I run is Inspiration. For Shatter, I run Dom/Duel/Insp for a few main reasons:

1) The line compliments Harmonious Mantras perfectly.
2) I run Heal Mantra (which is the superior heal imo, and I’ll explain below) and MoD/MoP.
3) Harmonious Mantras is not bugged. It gives 2 stacks because on heal, you activate “Power Cleanse”, which is a mantra. So all 3 stacks of your Heal Mantra will clear 2 condis and give 2 stacks!
4) Since your Heal provides massive condi removal, and you have condi removal on shatters, you don’t need Mantra of Resolve.
5) The team distortion can be invaluable if you know when to pop it.
6) Charging each of your 2 mantras will give ~2700k heal to you and nearby allies!

So I use the Mantra Heal over Ether Feast for a few reasons. You get 3 stacks of it with the HM trait. In total, it provides ~7800-8200k heals. The biggest thing for me is that it’s instant cast. You can heal yourself while CC’d in someones burst or knocked down, giving you the needed health to escape. I normally charge my mantras while in stealth, but you can also use them to soak up some damage since they give an additional 600 toughness.

Also, PU is bound to be nerfed soon and will probably see a stealth time reduction, as well as some sort of change to the Confounding Suggestions trait. But that’s my reasoning why I run Insp over Chaos/Illusions!

Hey guys, I’m back with another video of my mesmer, Hexual. I’m also debuting my male mesmer, Sazed. I recently moved to SoS and the fights have been amazing ever since! I hope you guys enjoy!

My build is on my channel banner, though it’s pretty similar to any shatter mesmer build you’ll find out there.

I hardly ever roam with Illusion trait line anymore since it’s not nearly as strong as Inspiration or Chaos. I have to run Chaos for my guild, but I enjoy the Inspiration line way more. It’s a lot more fun playing with the traits that line has to offer! I also have this feeling that a PU nerf is on the horizon, so no point in getting comfortable relying on the increased stealth.

The thief I did 2 duels with is Min Kun, he really knows what he’s doing w dp and I had some fun fights with him. Definitely learned a lot dueling another talented thief!

Hey guys, I’m back with another video of my mesmer, Hexual. Addressing feedback from the last video, I excluded the RP and added more solo roaming fights/duels at the start. It still ends with 2 awesomely outnumbered group fights!

With those 2 group fights, I’d like to give a HUGE shoutout to our Support Ele, Sohra Syntari. After watching these clips over and over while editing, it reminded me of the amazing job he does keeping our party alive and capitalizing on his aoe control fields! Love ya Sohra!

@RossBiddle – I understand completely what you mean. DoomKnightMax said it perfectly, there isn’t much variety for builds you can play in wvw. CI builds are fun, but not as effective in a large group setting. PU/condi variants are just laughable in a large group, so that really only leaves shatter builds. Then the only thing that really changes from the 44006 build are some traits here and there.

What does change, and I hope you did enjoy, is the music! I take pride in always choosing good songs for my videos, so there’s that xD

And like DoomKnightMax said, shatter is high risk/high reward burst play style, and that’s really what I enjoy most!

@Fay – I guess I should explain that lol. As you could kinda gather, I hit the water and noticed I had nothing setup and pretty much freaked. My main mesmer is asura, but I just got this one geared and into wvw yesterday, and overlooked the underwater aspect till that moment! Now I have all my water stuff ready!

Hey guys, this commentary of my gameplay is something I’ve always wanted to do and finally took the time to make one. I feel it gives good insight into fighting outnumbered and some tricks I learned along the way.

Some trolls will probably say “omg you just copied Yishis.” I know, this is very similar to the videos that Yishis used to do. Truth is, Yishis, along with a few other thieves, provided the motivation for me to hop out of spvp and try WvW roaming. So it’s safe to say I was a fan of his video series and wanted to do an updated d/d commentary since all the balance changes and feature packs.

I’d like to do more of these in the future, so some feedback on how to improve will be appreciated! Hope you enjoy!

Menzies mentioned that you can cancel your withdraw movement by stowing weapons. A good example of using this is in your shadow refuge when you need to heal or evade something that will knock u out. Cast withdraw then weapon swap so the movement doesn’t bring you out of your refuge!

More duo fights with my best friend. TC was very protective of Golanta in Week 1 and these 2 fights were really intense and fun to play, as we faced double our numbers in both. Yes, I’m playing condi for the hell of it and you can see how it shines when outnumbered under a lot of pressure. Enjoy!

Hello there! I’m assuming you are referring to condi engis of some sort that spam nades, bombs, turrets, etc. I don’t know what build you run, but I go with S/D in pvp. Here some tricks I use:

1) Due to the fact that engis dont need a target to spam their bombs/nades on you, being stealth won’t necessarily keep you safe. They just assume you are going to attack from stealth and they drop all their aoe kitten at their feet, so avoid too close to them in stealth thinking you’re safe.

2) Always have your Sword #2 (Infiltrator’s Return) available. This means porting in from range to do your attack chain. This allows you to quickly get out to clear heavy pressure conditions.

3) Engi Toolkit #5 is a 1200 pull which they will often follow up with a hit to apply 5 stacks of confusion. The pull has a distinct animation and you should always dodge this by means of: dodge, flanking strike, disabling shot, or even withdraw. Sometimes, an engi will stealth himself to hide the pull animation, so be weary of this as well.

4) When they use toolkit #4 to block, be careful about positioning yourself next to them. Sometimes they like to hit you with TK #3 for the confusion cause thieves stand next to them waiting for block to end. Larcenous Strike can hit through blocks, so if they are blocking at low health, a good LS can secure a kill. However, don’t just spam #3 just for the unblockable attack.

5) A lot of engis like to Supply Crate thieves. When they do this, you really have 2 options.
a) Pull the fight away from their turrets to a better location. Net turret will ruin your day if you get caught to often in it. The burn from flame turret is nothing to mess with either.
b) Switch to shortbow and auto attack / Cluster bomb his turret area to clear them while still doing damage to the engi. Again, I would prioritize net turret cause it’s a kitten.

6) If you are forced to Shadow Refuge a competent engi will be saving 1 of 2 skills for this occasion. A P/S engi will most like run into your refuge and attempt to knock you out using shield #4. You have to dodge this skill or it may cost you the fight. A rifle engi may try to hit you w Rifle #4 or #5. The #4 knockback is harder to land, but still watch out for it. The #5 aoe will cover your whole SR and hits HARD coming from a power engi. I’m talking 5-7k, so if you are low health, dodge this or it’ll most likely down you.

7) A lot of the engi’s healing comes from his burst healing turret ability which also cleanses 2 condis. Executing this combo requires him to successfully detonate his turret after deploying it. By keeping poison on the engi, you can significantly reduce the first part of the heal. I always save my Steal ability to rupt their heal. When you see them dropping the turret with the blue aura, stealing will interrupt his combo and delay the second portion of healing by a good 2-5 seconds. If I open with a Steal, it should be off cooldown by the time I need it to interrupt his heal.

8) Use the shortbow for immobilizes, cluster bomb spikes to turrets, and to apply poison. It’s easy to apply pressure w auto attacks and CB’s from range while making it easier to dodge grenades.

Seeing as I’m rushed to do something at the moment, it’s all I came up with at the time. I’ll edit later for any spelling mistakes or adding more tips when I get home. Hope this helps! Feel free to message me ingame at Deejjster.3702 or Lumenel.

Hey guys, it’s been about a month since I’ve done a video, but I’m back on my game and wanted to kick it off with a little thank you to my friend.

I met her when I was just a lowbie rank 23 and she was about ~2500. Cel got me hooked on the WvW scene and helped me get into all the gvg guilds I’ve been through to date. I have hundreds off hours roaming and dueling with her, and really feel like I don’t have the same level of synergy with anyone else. So I put this video together of our duo roaming to thank her for bringing me up in the WvW community!

We just transferred to Blackgate and the quality of roaming is so much better than t2. If anyone is considering transferring, I would highly recommend it. See you guys around!

@ Mystogan, yes, this was post patch. With my runes and sigils, I’ll stack upwards of 16-20 might in a prolonged fight if I stealth right, so that’s most likely why the numbers are higher. I have been playing Thief since beta and really love our class. I’m rank 80 in sPvP with countless tourny matches under my belt. I recently got hooked on the WvW side of pvp and want to share my roaming adventures with you guys!
