It is on ANet’s side as it has been about 2 months ago. Most people from Switzerland/Swisscom were not able to play, then ANet did some fixes and it was fine. Today exactly the same situation as back then. Sad thing is that it took about 2 weeks to sort things out back then.

I would recommend Condition build with full Rabid gear, even for WvW despite people saying it is not efficient – this is not true. But in the end you need to experiment yourself and find your own play style.

In terms of roaming in WvW the ONLY thing that really bothers me with Necro is the lack of reliable stomping technique. In 1v1 it does not matter, but in 1vX it does. Hopefully there is a walk-around for that which works pretty well.
The way I handle this is to continue to spam conditions on a downed player, because downed players do not remove conditions. Then when they have enough, I use Epidemic on them to transfer conditions to other enemies trying to put me down. After you can fear them to ensure they will be eaten properly and not heal.

You will never know until you roll one up to lvl 80 … I had to play 3 classes before I finally settled down with a Necromancer. Initially I played a Conditionmancer, then I tried a power build, and then I came back to Conditions with slight modifications. PvE wise Necro got the highest solo-DPS. In groups it is diminished by bleeding cap (25). In WvW I find it extremely fun to kill people on walls (Staff #3 → Staff#2 → Staff#4 → Epidemic → Staff#5 )

This ^ Jumping It helps sometimes a lot to catch your group in WvW. Especially around Citadel at borders where you’d normally have to go around the cliffs.

It is not entirely worthless.

  • You get very good damage mitigation
  • You get one Fear (2s in my build plus 2.5k dmg from this fear)
  • You get No. 4 aoe skill which is very good for flagging targets to get drops. Good in WvW zerging
  • You get No. 4 aoe skill (again) which procs Barbed Precision (2s Bleed for me) without any CD like crazy.

I agree, DS could have been better, but saying it is worthless is too much. You just need to discover how and when to use it.

Well, it has to be that way, otherwise if it was too easy to get from point A to point B, every Tower, Keep or Castle would get constantly overrun by random zergs.

Take some gold and materials and start leveling via crafting
0 to 80 equals 7.5 crafting disciplines from 0 to 400 :P

Yeah, these are the only traits that could be swapped, but 33% condition duration from Scepter is too lucrative to say no to it IMHO. It includes the Cripple, Bleed and Poison.

Feel free to experiment :P
Good thing is that you gain 10% in general condition duration which could give you more flexibility with Runes/Sigils.

Exactly, having a condition cap is like making mobs invulnerable if you hit them more than 3 times a second in order to prevent burst damage …
Condition damage is discriminated a lot, but despite of it I still think it is the best build for a Necromancer.

Saying that necros lack survivability is the biggest nonsense I’ve ever heard.

  • You have Death Shroud which gives you about additional 100% life in case you find yourself in “oh kitten” situation
  • You have Plague Form which is perfect for Condition Necromancer as all skills spam AOE conditions. It makes you close to immortal for 20 seconds and number 2 skill spams AOE blindness every second thus pretty much disabling most melee attacks
  • You have the biggest HP pool in the game
  • Condition necro wears Rabid gear which gives very decent toughness

Yes, Necromancer lacks some easy ways to escape the battle, but hey … we should be killing people, not escaping from them, kind of like 300 at Hot Gates :P
Anyway, in WvW if you have to escape it already means your team have lost.
In sPvP you can make quite nice use of Fear build.

My own 5 cents to the topic:
I have now 4 lvl 80 characters, a Guardian, an Engineer, a Warrior and a Necromancer and I can tell that Necromancer is by far my most favorite toon. The conditions are great. In terms of overall damage, not damage in first 2 seconds of a fight, this is my ranking given the experience I have:

1. Necromancer (conditions)
2. Warrior (full zerker)
3. Guardian
4. Engineer

Of course the Warrior is master of Burst damage, no question about that, but here is the thing about warrior’s damage: In order to maximize the damage you have to go full Berserker, which makes you soft like a weenie. You either kill fast or get killed. While Necromancer can put Rabid gear on thus he gets a lot of Thoughness for survivability and still maintain the maximum damage via Precision and Condition Damage statistics. Plus, the HP level of a Necromancer is equal to Warrior’s.

@OP do not get discouraged by other people, necromancer is a good class, BUT there are small problems with it: 25 Bleeding cap makes it not worth to have more than one Conditionmancers in a group. So be aware of this limitation. Maybe one day they will change this and we will be gods

^You can carry an extra weapon for stacking sigils, just switch it off once you farm up enough stacks in WvW. Temple of Storms is a great place to run them up. Or if you are running with a team in a no threat area, like about to take a camp, put on your stacking weapon.

I hope this hasn’t been covered already and apologize if it has. Has any tested the Spite I trait Death’s Embrace in conjunction with a fear build? With the the Soul Reaping I trait Fear of Death on top of our downed state fear. That 50% boost would be incredible. Of course its gimmicky. But imagine rolling off 4 ticks of fear and over 8k damage on someone just when they think they’ve won.

The problem with going into Spite is that you have to give up on something else which is a no-go for this build. You can’t give up on Master of Terror in a fear build. You want to keep 30 points in Curses as it is the best line for condition build. And if you dont put 20 into Death Magic, you loose one fear.

Oh, i do usse sigil of earth in main hand and sigil of agony in offhand. Sigil of earth gives me now 10s bleeds so that is just too sweet to give up on it :-D. I was using sigil of corruption before but i find it only effective in PvE. In WvW the risk of loosing your stacks is too high imo. And yes i prefer to use food that cost 1.5 silver rather than 4 silver.

Rennoko, thanks for pointing out the 100% – 100% duration option.

I just want to share how did I spec given your input in order to get 100% – 100% duration with 6x Fear.

Bleeds:
20% – Hemophilia
15% – Rune of the Krait
10% – Rune of Lyssa
10% – Rune of the Mad King
10% – Sigil of Agony
36% – Super Veggie Pizza
101% – Total

Fear:
50% – Master of Terror trait
10% – Rune of Lyssa
10% – Rune of the Mad King
36% – Super Veggie Pizza
106% – Total

Other Conditions:
10% – Rune of Lyssa
10% – Rune of the Mad King
36% – Super Veggie Pizza
56% – Total

I think this is the most optimal solution and I can apply bleeds much more efficiently given the Barbed Precision puts 2s bleeds.

PS. Lingering Curse makes Scepter conditions last 33% longer so that is quite a boost!

So the lag was fixed for me and the game was again playable … untill today when I updated the game client with the newest Halloween patch. Right now I cannot even log it, and even if I do log in somehow, I get disconnected within few seconds.

That is true, last night lags were smaller, but still I was disconnected twice. Once on WvW, once on sPvP. They are getting close.

Forget it people, ANet claims the lag comes from ISP, ISP claims the lag comes from ANet.
So obviously better to spare ourselves frustration and uninstall this “game”.

This is far beyond my patience … extreme lags since 2 weeks, today I cannot even log in. Login screen hangs on downloading … for ages

People are changing the IP and for some time (about 1 hour?) the game works fine. Then everything goes back as it was.
This seems not to be a problem of any network nor ISP but ANet’s faulty servers.

So I managed to notice that I have this crazy lag only in the data that my game client receives from the server. Data sent out from my client is ok. So I’ve run Windows Network Monitor only on incomming traffic having only GW2 launched and this is how my game looks like: <see image attached>.

Please ANet, do something about it, there is an obvious congestion on one of the network nodes.

Good point Wilhelm, I will check this out myself. 60kbps in an MMO is a killer! Other MMOs close the traffic within 20 kbps. I must agree that it got much worse this weekend, exactly after the patch.

So you are saying thet even if I play on European server, the traffic goes through America ? emm … what?

Pardon me but it sounds little reasonable. Moreover people are switching from European server to American server and for some of them the lag is gone.

The thing with this lag is very wierd. The other day we were running an instance dungeon while chating on Mumble. My friends were telling me that I seemed like I was doing everything like i was not lagging, but on my screen I had masive lag of up to 2-3 minutes. I could browse AH, I could post on guild chat successfuly. The only thing was that the game gave no feedback for any of skill pressed.

It is the first time in my whole life since I see lags getting close to 1 minute in an MMO game! GW2 is the only game that I play currently which suffers from any lag. I play SC2 and D3 ocasionally on the same link and everything is perfect.

Yes my ISP is Swisscom, and yes loads of people with Swisscom is having lag problems in GW2, but why only one game during “rush hours” gets unplayable? My finger points at game host, not ISP. Besides, we are in Europe, not Asia, we do not have tsunamis, tornados or what so ever that could potentially destroy our links.

I waited patiently 3 weeks but this has been too long now. I hope that ANet did not inherit strategy of “let’s wait untill people get fed up and quit, then the ones who remain will have better QoS”

This is NOT a problem comming from any ISP. This is Guild Wars servers fault! Do not dare to push the fault away from you ANet and fix these kitten lags finally. It has been 3 weeks since I can not play in the evening. The only time I can play is before 5PM, but gues what, I am at my work, so it does not work that way.

This is officially THE MOST LAGGY GAME EVER.

Hi,

I am doing some dungeon instances with my guild from time to time. Everybody is getting proper rewards as it was described in latest patch (25.09) but i get always much less.

For example today we did 3 different chains of Honor of the Waves dungeon (first dailly run) and everybody got 60 + 60 + 60 tokens and 26 + 26 + 26 silver.
I got only 30 + 15 + 6 tokens and 13 + 6.5 + 2.6 silver.

We did follwoing chains at following times:

1. The Butcher chain 2012-09-29 (start)13:00 – 13:40(finish) (reward: 30 tokens & 13 silver)
2. The Plunderer chain 2012-09-29 (start)13:50 – 14:34(finish) (reward 15 tokens & 6.5 silver)
3. The Zealot chain 2012-09-29 (start)14:37 – 15:44(finish) (reward 6 tokens & 2.6 silver)

All times in CEST (Switzerland).

Last issue i had was because of Swisscom problems and was fixed the day after … It is ok for a fix time, but why the hell this is happening at all for this single provider? Do they have pine or oak hardware?

Aurora Glade here, Sitzerland/Swisscom tremendous lag all day … random between 5 sec, 1 min or total dc … It is the second time this happens.

I remember someone said GW1 have had 30 hours of downtime in total lifetime and good service …
Is this confirmed that same company handles GW2?

Same ISP, same problem. I do’t believe ANet can do anything about it. We must probably just wait and try not to troll this forum too much :P

Does anyone know any workaround for this … some proxy perhaps?
