LOL everything you do in this game is a grind of some sort. The legendaries was a super grind it’s even worse now. You can’t just pick and chose which grind you want to complain about. You might as well complain about the whole thing lol….

Its a perception issue.

Getting to 80 and getting the top gear tier was very easy and could be done in any number of ways. You could Wv3, Event run, Dungeon run, craft etc. There was a grind if you want to call it that, but it was also just playing the game It did’ent matter what you did you were progressing towards 80 and gear cap.

Cosmetics have always been a grind, Legendarys, Cultural armor sets, hell even getting full dungeon armor sets. The cosmetic grind has always been a part of the GW system. It was never about gear though, it was about cosmetics. That made it tolerable for most people.

The new gear comes from one place and is statistically better. How much better is not at issue. Anet have said that they will add additional ways to obtain the gear (Wv3, karma, dungeons, whatever) but its short sighted of them to add it in one place only and neglect the others. The whole situation would have been far better received had all aspects of the game gotten an equal shake of the stick. (even if that ment holding back the dungeon until it could all be rolled out together – although that speaks more of thier time management really)

Thats not to say there would have been no backlash, there would have been because of the stat increase, but I feel that it would have been far less than what we are seeing currently.

A company faced with customers complaining about a product being exactly as advertised should simply grow a pair, tell the spoiled brats to deal with it and keep doing what they do best, that is, keep true to their vision and continue to make the product the perfect image of the peoduct they envisioned when they started developing it.

In most cases I’d agree with this. However in the case of MMO’s I’d have to disagree. MMO’s are constantly evolving and thats part of the attraction of them. Now before I say more I’ll say that I personally disagree with this new direction of Anets, thats beside the point though.

There WAS feedback on this very forum asking for gear progression, Anet took that feedback and ran with it. At the time those of us who did’ent want this style of game mostly stayed quiet because we believed that the game would stay as it was without our feedback.

In hindsight that was a mistake. Before the changes were made was the time to object to them, when there were 200+ post threads asking for gear progression was the time we should have been posting that we did’ent want it. Its mostly our own failing that we did’ent offer counter feedback against the gear progression.

Now people will say that we should’ent have to insist that Anet remain true to the vision™ that they sold us, but the harsh reality is that Anet did what the fans posting asked for, you cant hold them accountable for not doing what those of us who did’ent offer feedback wanted.

Now IMHO a major change in the game like this should have been discussed more with the community, polls etc and more feedback garnered before such a shift was made.

I cant fault Anet for making the changes based on forum feedback, I do however fault them for just taking the opinions of the most vocal on said forums without making a greater effort to poll the community as a whole as to what it wanted. (In game poll maby)

Now its quite possible that the results of the in-game poll would have shown massive support for the new gear tier and progression, if that was the case then the reality is that the game is heading in the correct direction for the majority of the fans, however had it shown the opposite this change in direction may never have happened.

TLDR – I don’t condone Anet for making the changes based on forum feedback, I do take issue with the fact that they did’ent make a “fair” effort to get a larger sampling of feedback from existing players.

Echoing other posters here,

Some people have issues with the direction the game is taking (me included) but you should’ent let that sway you. If you personally are enjoying the game then play on !!

At the point you find the game un-fun .. walk away. With no sub you are free to return whenever you want to check out future updates. (I plan to)

The forums have become a cesspit recently, both sides are guilty of this. I see posts which I feel are constructive and well articulated from both sides of the fence, those who like the new direction and those who don’t, and the vitriol spewed at them from members of the opposing camp (both camps do this) is saddening.

Trust me, the best ascended items are ‘roughly’ about 40% better than regular exotics.

This pic is one of the lower quality rings, look at the difference in stats. There are ascended items that have been linked that have had vendor values of 6g

Exotic Berserker Ring total stats combined 155 +6% CTD
That low end Ascended RIng total stats combined 222 + 5% CTD + Agony Resis + MF

Why does that ring lack a name?

Because it was linked with a data-mined code.

Main/Off Hand Sigils, do they stack?

in Players Helping Players

Demarc.4906

I know the sigils only stack to 25 and are a flat amount per stack. Not sure if having two would allow them to stack faster though … personally I’ve only ever used a power one (when leveling my warrior) and a luck one (on MF gear) … never bothered to try using two.

Either way, you’ll only ever get the 15% MF from a single stack of 25 though (you wont get 30% for having two sigils)

As for using two DPS sigils, not 100% sure but I think they act on the attack. So sigil’s in your main hand effect skills 1-3 and offhand 4-5.

How important is healing power?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Demarc.4906

Demarc.4906

Its pretty specific to builds.

I’ve tried a full healing power build and no healing power builds, personally because of DR I use minimal healing power in one of my builds and that’s about it. (I main a Guardian though – may be more useful for other classes)

I would’ent say its “Useless” … but I, personally, don’t rate over-stacking it. With a build that provides alot of healing I tend to grab a little (200-600)

Your mileage may be different though.

Gotta agree with the OP.

I disagree with the direction they are taking but attacking the Dev’s solves nothing. I have to believe that whoever made the new direction decision made it in good faith and that they believed that it was the right direction to take the game.

I don’t agree, but that’s no reason to get personal with the Dev’s, they are either just doing what they are told (worst case) or what they believe to be for the best for the game (best case). Either way … people need to remain polite when giving feedback.

Maybe it would have been fun if it was just cosmetic upgrades, maybe not. I’m not in a good enough mood to tell.

But what I am certain of is that, if it wasn’t fun, GW2 still would be because I could play something that is fun.

This is my major gripe with FotM. I feel the dev’s are dictating how I play by adding this new carrot. I’d have run the dungeon for cosmetic items as I wanted to. Could have been alot, could have been every now and then based on how fun it was. However I could have still pottered around in all other aspects of the game without being concerned that I was sliding down the power curve. Thats not the case with this dungeon, now you have to run it to get the best gear forcing you do it over and over. Rather than doing it because I enjoy it, or setting a goal of running it a few times for x-skin, you now how to run it to stay current on the gear treadmill, which makes it unfun from the outset.

If they put in a “LFR” system and a way to see peoples gear i’m kinda happy with it.

Being serious too.

Indeed your entitled to your opinion and it seems that the Devs view of the future is more inline with your’s than mine. Thats fine and I’m happy that you like the new features and direction that the game is taking.

A question to you though,

Were you aware of the pre-release statements made by the company? Can you at least appreciate why those of us who seen those statements are a little irritated at the new direction the game is taking?

It’s great for you that the game is progressing in a direction that you like, however for those of us who took A-net at thier word, this about turn leaves us feeling kinda bitter

And your entitled to your opinion…no where did he say he didnt appreciate why you didnt like it. He just said he liked it… no point trying to paint other peoples posts as abbrasive or insist anyone whos happy with the game’s state is an insult to your feelings. And smileys after a negative comment is sorta passive aggressive

Tbh, while i didnt fully read the wall of txt that the op wrote. I have probably 100+ problems and things i’d like to see implemented. But as for what i’m seeing so far with this change after trying the dungeon and some of the content (especially the amazing new spvp map and tournies etc) i’m feeling a lot better and confident about a game that i had pretty much thrown in the towel on a week ago and just assumed i wasnt the target audience. But…now i dont think so anymore.

I am the OP btw.

Not sure where your reading in that I am painting his post as abrasive, I simply asked a question. As for my feelings being hurt, are you sure you actually read the post? I specifically said that the devs and his views seemed more inline and that I was happy the game was moving in a direction that actually pleased him. How you can read that as I have hurt feelings is beyond me. There was no sarcasm in my reply I assure you.

As for the negative comment, I simply outlined my feelings in a simple sentence, i did not expect him to agree with them or indeed try to force them on him, simply asked if he could see it from my point of view. I can clearly see it from his as I outlined in my post. The game is moving in a direction he likes and thats great for him, not so much for me but thats just the way the cookie crumbles.

The game apparently is moving in a direction you like, the reason alot of us are upset if because its a departure from all of the previous statements the Dev team made about the game pre-purchase. Many people never really followed the game pre-release and have no clue as the the direction the Dev team lead us to believe they were taking, for those people the new changes wont be a shock since they had no pre-conceived notion of how the game would develop, that was my only reason for asking the question, to discover if that was indeed the position of the poster, not to try and undermine any opinions he holds.

Maby you should just read posts and try not to read-into them your own perceived bias?

New direction being the additional gear Tier of course, these are my personal views and although I appreciate feedback please have the decency to read the post before replying with Stop whining. Cheers.

I really tried to get back into GW2 after this content patch, really I did.

A little background, I have 3 level 80’s (2 with several Exotic sets and a 3rd who I just started to gear up) I have near 3000 achievement points on my account so I participate in many area’s of the game, dungeons, Wv3 a littel Spvp etc. I tended to do a bit of it all. Before this patch I still felt that I had alot more to do in the game. I have 100% Map and most of the puzzles etc done, but there are still some dungeon paths I’ve not done, I had intended to level up at least two more characters to see the Charr and Sylv storylines and eventually gear out those characters.

After news of the new features hit I just lost interest. Pretty much over night.

Now I know the failing is mine. I know the new gear is not required to do any of the current content (Bar deeper FoTM runs) Yet I’ve been conditioned I guess over many years of playing MMO’s to chase the carrot. So the fact that its there means I feel obliged to jump on that treadmill.

I dont want to do that. My main attraction with GW2 was that I could log in and do whatever the hell I wanted and walk away feeling that I’d made some type of progress and had fun. I could run some DE’s, a Dungeon or go Wv3. Did’ent matter. I was still working on some cosmetic pieces that I wanted and felt I had goals to achieve when I logged in.

Sure you could now say that I have more goals to work on with the additional content, but this is where my conditioning comes in. Before anything I did was making progress towards my goals which were varied. Each goal, be it more achievement points, more cosmetic gear, more dungeon compleations, was different and had no real impact on any other goal. Would my new cosmetic piece make the dungeon easier? Nope. Would the extra achievement points aid in getting me more gold on my farming sessions? Nope.

Now of course there is new gear. From my mindset it becomes a priority since getting that new gear (Irrelivent of how much better it is) will make anything else I do in the game slightly easier (at best) or level the playing field (in Wv3) back to the status-quo at worst.

Therefore Arena net has prioritized my playtime for me. Getting the new shiney becomes the most desirable objective to me. Again I know the failing is mine, its not REQUIRED that I have that gear, just the fact that its there drives my desire for it. In order to do that small % better in any dungeon run, in any Wv3 encounter, in anything I do … means I desire that gear.

It makes me a prime example of the rat in a skinner box. I know it. You know it. Bottom line it does not matter. I’m aware that its my own failing but since that addition of this new gear makes me feel that my other endevors in the game (whatever they were) are now less relivent, less important, it limits the way that I would go about playing the game. Until I have the new shiney I will prioritize my time on obtaining it. So gone is my … just log in and have fun … attitude and instead I look at a gear grind treadmill that I’ll be jumping on.

Other games do the gear treadmill better. Therefore if I am going to be on one, I’ll take the better one

This post may sound like a whine but really its not. I KNOW the failing is mine in the way that I approach the game. I am a goal driven kinda guy, Yes I was that raider in WoW and Rift et-al. I was the guy who had 100% raid attendence. Its just the way I am wired. I will miss the freedom I felt I had in GW2’s. Where I could just log in a do as I pleased and walk away feeling that I had progressed in some way.

ALot of people were complaining about the lack or progression at end game, I never felt that way since I made my own goals and worked towards them. Had the new dungeon been added with the same tier of gear and just cosmetic improvements I’d have been a happy camper and continued to play as I pleased, Now that I feel as if I have to grind the new tier, I’ll just move on.

I wish all the current and future players the best and again admit that the failing in how I approach the game is mine, Arena-net are changing the game as they think best and I wish them well with thier game, its just no longer for me.

Peace all.

Question about the current / new legendarys

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Demarc.4906

Demarc.4906

So they are upping the Legendary weapons to the new highest tier or gear (the Ascended level) and will continue to up them in the event of new tiers.

Kewl and all.

My question is, Legendary’s start with (in most cases) non-ideal stat allocation for alot of builds (power / tough / vit). So people tended to transmute them onto exotic’s with actual useful stats for thier builds. Fair game and all. Will these new beefed up weapons keep the new stat allocation or revert to thier base stat allocation? Since there are no base weapons (Ascended weapons) with those base stats on currently?

Does this make crafting a new legendary a waste of time until we get the new Ascended tier of weapons? (Unless your one of the lucky few who likes the base stat allocation) since you would’ent be able to transmute for the improved tiers stats? (Your only option would be to transmute to exotic level and wait for the new ascended tier weapons to hit)

I’m assuming that new forged legandarys will be of the new tier, but like i say you’d have to either suffer pow/vit/tough stat allocation or drop the base weapon dmg back down to exotic level to get decent stat allocation.

Take into account, for instance, the release of updated AI or general enemy mob stats and mechanics. Players at present may not be able to keep pace with more volatile combat, and slight improvements to armor and stats can help aleviate that stress without forcing dramatic improvements in player skill or playstyle. An additional armor tier is welcome under those conditions, noting that any item based addition to the game should still reinforce player skill improvement

LOL. Really?

Thats your counter argument? The Dev’s know the new mobs are too tough for us in our current gear so they made a new tier of gear for us?

So instead of balancing the encounters to our gear levels and making the fights more dynamic and fun, they are adding more more gear for us to combat the increased Armor and stats (your words) on the mobs that they are adding …. thats kinda a cyclic argument no?

Bottom line, its the start of a gear treadmill. Am i shocked this is happening? Nope not at all. Dissapointed? Totally, based on the hype and pre-release press for this game.

Have to echo most of the posters in this thread.

Usually i read the forums and say very little, in this case i feel i should leave a quick post with my opinions.

I’ve played the carrot games, the power creep games and sure at the time I enjoyed them. I came to GW2 after reading that there would be none of this in the game. As an older and more casual player now the lack or power creep appealed to me. I could log in, run some dungeons or WvWvW with friends and not worry that in my absence I had fallen behind. The fact that I could choose to do things at my own pace and set goals that i actually wanted to do, as opposed to felt i had to do in order to maintain a given gear score was the major selling point of this game for me.

So I’ve gotten 3 characters to 80, the wife who plays with me has 2 more. We’ve spent a few bucks here and there getting extra bank slots, bag slots and trans stones etc. We got the gear we liked and then worked on the cosmetic aspect. About done on my Guardian and Ranger, got them looking nice and geared out to do whatever I pleased. As crafters we made most of our gear and transmuted it for the looks we wanted. A few pieces here and there for some stat combos from dungeons or whatever and life was good.

Now come to find there is a new tier coming. TBH i’ve not logged in since i read the initial article on MMORPG.com. Colour me dissapointed.

The new tier is a smack in the face when i’ve used cash to convert my existing gear to models i like only to find that if i was to continue playing then i’d have to grind out new sets of gear and then hand over more cash to get the looks i want back.

For shame Anet.

I’ll still be around for the launch of the patch, but if things goes as i expect from the Dev posts i wont be here long. There are other games out there that do the carrot / power creep thing better than GW2 so why would i hang around? Dont even mention the lack of a $15 a mo sub since i can tell you honestly i’ve spent way more than $15 a mo on GW2 anyway … other power creep games would actually SAVE me money with thier sub fees and do it better (IMO)

This is not a threat, i’m still here and will still play abit after the patch to feel the waters, but if Anet continues down the path of a game design that others do better, my major reason for playing thier game as opposed to another will be gone. I’ll just reevaluate if this really is the game i want to play over them ….

I’ve done that multiple times but instead of wasting 390tokens x 4 i got the cheapest random weapons (210 tokens each) and mystic forge. Not worth doing but if anet doesn’t add tones of new items to obtain with tokens i say go for it. You’ll be making at least 1g from the mystic forge weapons and i got couple in the 6g range.

Really now? :O ok! XD

When you say stones you mean Mystic forge stones?
and which weps are the 210 tokens each?

Yes he means Mystic Forge stones from the store. You can use 1 stone to replace any other item in the forge, so 3 greatswords and 1 stone will combine. Should cut down the cost in tokens per attempt for you assuming you have a few gold to throw at the cash shop (or a credit card :p )

You can split the 5 armored guys under the final boss by pulling them back and having some leash. Hell we screwed around with those for awhile making them spawn adds since we got a few rare drops off the first wave of adds (i’m sure that Anet will hot fix this as a top priority – summoned mobs dropping loot? OMG no)

I agree that the last boss is plain wack tho, we were 4-manning anyway and our first time on that path .. but after 5 or 6 attempts on him with different strats and looking for environmental crap to use, we just called it. Theres simply no way you can take the licks the Mk II is throwing out, you dont regen end that fast.

Either they need to put a CD on his field skill or they need to drop the damage it does. The combo of 1.5-2K ticks and the rate hes throwing them out .. is just insane!

Agree.

All the NPC’s are pretty much useless and we just ignore them. They get killed we ignore them, they will repop up at the next event stage. At best they are totally worthless. The only time we even pay attention to them is during the protect parts (Hodg in AC for example) since we HAVE to keep them alive then. The rest of the time its best to let them do thier own thing and just ignore them.

A lesson learned

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Demarc.4906

So lesson for today is read the forums more.

Decided to run some SE today.

Path one, bazillion mobs running at us. We spent some time hacking through them, after a few eventual wipes i did some google-fo and found path one is bugged.

Np’s we’ll do another path, enter path 2.

Never done it before but we got all the way to the last boss and proceeded to attack his golems. (note – we did pay attention to the buffs so knew it was a target swap fight) only to have me (the guardian) pounded by static field after static field. Sure the first one hurt so I started dodging out. Dodge, dodge .. oh crap no end run. dodge … run .. dead. Really? The golem just stood there chain casting them on me all the while mark I was on my kitten 100% of the time. Couple more attempts trying to use feedback and reflect walls and we did a little better.

Pretty much as soon as my wall is down i am toast. The rest of the group can stand in the Avenger shield for 20s however i cant since mark I is on my kitten 1400 dmg a tick, if you have a dodge you can avoid all damage id you pay attention which seems fair. If you dont have end even moving as the attack lands will net you 2-3 pulses. ~5K dmg. Since the bugger seems to focus ONE person at a time theres just no way you can dodge everything and you do get downed. Of course downed sounds all nice and you can get a hand right? Nope, since the bugger will continue to pound you so people cant get near you b/c of the 3 overlapping fields. Joy.

So some more google-fo reveals to me that apparently the general opinion is this boss has been WAY over tuned. The few vid’s i found show people dancing around in the fields taking next to no dmg so obviously pre-patch and yes, it looked very trivial that you could pretty much ignore the fields. But there is a middle ground between ignore that mechanic and that mechanic causes tons of dmg and is fired off continually. Maby A-net needs to try middle grounds?

So lesson learned. Before we decide to run any more dungeons first order of the day is to check the forums and see which ones A-net has screwed up first so we dont waste our time.

Cheers forum people, in future i’ll seek wisdom here before I go pound face on something.

As a Guardian I protect hodg with a staff and hammer set up. I start with Hammer and pound on the mound until either its low health (dont kill it) or the adds start to swamp me, then I’ll switch to staff and start to kite. Staff (3) is a nice swiftness boost and staff (1) will allow you to lock aggro in a wide area. Staff (2) can be used as a heal on yourself or hodg along with staff (4) – esp powerful heal if your spec’d Altruistic healing.

I’ve tried kiting with other weapons I just found the staff to be easier overall since during the kite I dont really care about damage anyway.

As you said, i avoid the table as it tends to glitch the pack and they go immune and swap hodg. It’ll take a few seconds for thier immunity to drop (Anti-exploit code) and in that time they will chomp him with you able to do nothing to regain thier attention.
