I remember saying in one of those threads that the devs wouldn’t stop until thieves would have a pillow for a weapon and 1hp…I take that back! Devs, please give us our glass-cannons back!

Hey guys i started a thief alt kind of bummed out on my elementalist, but im having a hard time lvling im currently lvl 22 i down mobs easily however im really squishy currently using D/D with shortbow for aoe or multiple targets. Got10 in critcal strikes tree and im now filling up power, i tried condition build aswell but its still not smooth, don’t get me wrong mobs die but if its more then 2 mobs i struggle.

Q:My question is can anyone link me a good lvling build?And can thieves farm orr?

Sounds about right… I can only recommend you to switch from d/d to s/p and to start spamming blindness every time you get overwhelmed by mobs, swords auto-attack is prett powerful by itself(better then pistol whip post-nerf, it seems).

C’mon its not that bad. More builds just became accessible. I wouldn’t mind more ‘nerfs’ if they will be like this.

Well, our sword/dagger is useless, sword/pistol is nerfed, pistol/pistol is far from useful(does not harms thief at best), bow is used as a gataway weapon, and sometimes as aoe condition support(which fails against anyone with purge/condition removal). And despite Assassin’s Signet nerf(which is a backstab build nerf) people still demand backstab nerf.

So yeah, maybe not this and maybe not even the next month, but in the end thief is going to be nerfed into the ground.

I don’t know what’s next, but I’m starting to believe that I know what awaits thiefs at the end of the tunnel. In the end, we’ll have pillow for weapon and 1hp.

It’s funny how people assume they’ll have enough initiative or time left to pull off all five attacks, with only 10-12k hp and a decloaked debuff.

It’s most definitely a fraggin nerf for a class that is only good at two things: damage and running away.

This is my first post ever on forums here, and only wanted to state the obvius nerfs that is needed to a class that outshines everyone else.

I know all the thiefes in here will say: “learn to handle the class bla bla bla”. No one likes to loose their current state of OP’ness, I have a 80 full exotic OP mesmer so I know how it feels

In our guild we had a full random team of classes, but the most just rerolled to thiefs now cause why not? It’s the FOTM easy ownage class, and I allmost did the same. So now a typical wvw scenario for us is our 5 thiefs and a few tanks.

It goes like this: we are 5-8 people they are 20-30 people. Our thiefs run in, throws Dancing daggers 3 times, then Bladestorm, and instawipe the 20-30 people, and we tanks come in and finish people. Works 9 out of 10 times.

The thiefs just laugh on ventrilo, talking about how OP it is. Well it’s easy badges for us, but gets kinda meh knowing that 1 class can outmatch all others just by hitting 3 buttons.

So why the 3 nerfs?

Dancing daggers in its current state is to powerfull. When they see a ranger, the run like madmen to kill him first, cause he runs with his pet so the DD can bounce. Normally it hits the ranger for 2×6000 dmg, and ofc the pet for the same. Then Steal with Mug and a quick finisher with either Backstab or Heartseeker. Any group with few people is dead within few seconds with 5 thiefs using this combo. It was fun to see the first few times, but now its just cheesy to watch. You do the math lets say 4 people come running, and 5 thiefes cast DD, thats about 5 × 4×6000-7000 dmg from the daggers, and ofc aoe cripple. So our way to do wvw these days are … are they more than 30, then we run off, or else we own them.

So what should you do with Dancing Daggers? Well, other classes have thrown weapons also that cripples, and they seem kinda balanced. So nerf the bounce to 2 max and nerf the damage it does with 50-60%, it should only be a cripple and not a insane aoe damage. Fx when they meet a mesmer with all illusions out, they just use 1 DD and leaves the mesmer cloneless with 50% hp.

= nerf damage to cripple only or 50-60% less damage still with 4 bounces.

Bladestorm, why nerf that? Well do you actually find it balanced that 5 people with the same class can wipe an entire warband with 1 keystroke? Can any other classes do that? The thiefes talked about the OP state of Bladestorm, and what the nerf should be. Nerf it like with other classes that it only hits 3-5 targets … Right now they are talking 20-30k damage with 1 keystroke and multiply that by 5.

= Nerf Bladestorm to 3-5 targets max like other classes.

Signet of Shadows? It works fine right … Well, again, this is from our thiefes guild. They talk about how OP it is that 1 class have a passive that makes them run 25% faster all the time, ofc not in combat but rest of the time. All other classes in the game have max 10% movement speed from signets or traits. Reduce movement speed to 15% MAX, so other classes have a chance in wvw to get away from a thief. I’ve never seen any enemies get away as soon as our thiefs go after them(beside ALT + F4 or Waypoint clicking) They have their shortbow, shadowstep, steal which gives them more than enough movement for 1 class, no need to have 25% extra movement speed also.

= Nerf movement speed to 10-15% instead so they are on par with other classes.

But hey your just whining now, why dont you roll a thief yourself and join the gang?

Well I love to play different classes and don’t like the meta with all playing the same class just because it is OP.

Most of this “whine” actually comes from the thiefs themselves, so we talked about it, and this is why im writing this post, so ANET mayne look into the class some more, and not just the dmg nerf on Pistol Whip(oh the thief laughed at that one).

Im not going to talk about Backstab, since some nerf came today with patch, but my full exotic toughness specced warrior with 30 points into the toughness trait tree, with shield(90 toughness from trait) and food buff 100 toughness, got backstabbed for 12000 damage … Fair? You be the judge.

Flame away, and remember, this whole post comes from 5 guys who rerolled to thief only because they saw how OP it is, and abuse it everyday owning people with 3 keys.

Here’s an easier and far more efficient tactic for you, it involves ten warriors who charge into the zerg with their rifles shooting, but as soon as they reach the zerg they switch weapon sets and hit 100blades. If even one warrior reaches the unsuspecting zerg, the whole zerg gets wiped out anyways.

Much easier, no?

Don't you dare touch Backstab

It’s pretty annoying, really, with S/P nerfed we can only rely on Backstab for spike damage. If even that gets nerfed, well my thief is going to become amphibious and to stay under water through the whole WvW time. Coz obviously there won’t be anything to do on the surface.

4: Misleading title is misleading. Most of that damage was easily preventable.

And just to make it even more clear…The major bulk of 28k damage came from a certain warrior’s skill that got stolen.

Because its how they protect it from being abused to for example get up on walls.

Just look at Ink Shot that havent been fixed yet.

Doesn’t seem to stop the guardian though, who’s teleport can go where-the-heck-ever he wants, compared to shadow step.

Personally, I prefer to stick with the classics-find a warrior, steal from him you-know-what, then chain it with Dagger Storm. Dead zerg guaranteed.

Riiiiiiight…Thief underwater is sooooo OP. IT MUST BE NERFED NAOOOO!

Then nerf those mesmers and their clones, coz having several identical npcs on the map is clearly an exlpoit…And after that fix warriors, coz when he spins in one spot and is killing everyone while being unkillable is clearly an exploit…

Then fix Backstab, coz dancing around the target hoping to hit the back for high damage once in a while is clearly an exploit…

THEN, fix the evade button, so that people wouldn’t be able to evade, coz when they do so, they are clearly exploiting….

Shadowstep would actually be useful in PvP if....

Naturally, in ideal world, I’d prefer if our shadowsteps would’t have such silly limitations as “may only teleport where normal movement is possible.”

But as it stands right now, I’d be happy if it would at least teleport my thief somewhere, instead of blinking him one spot.

If you’re in a 1v1 you’re using daggers or a sword in some way or another; not two pistols. And if you do you probably are because you need to kite… in which case shortbow is better because dual pistols only have a cripple, you won’t stop them from moving. And CC? If you’re using 4/5 then your only damage is auto attacks, in which case you might as well use shortbow.

But you’re still missing aoe blind, it pretty much screws most of melee/ranged attacks so long they are within the field. And I can pretty much chain 3-4 of those, using initiative alone.

so purely theoretically, pump up bleeding for auto-attack and remain within smoke screen.

That’s funny, coz I got 40 wool for that, so yeah, I was still dissatisfied with the reward, even with the xp. I could farm much more xp off the mobs faster than wasting time finding all the vistas and POIs, not to mention the loot.

“Even if they were class specific, not everyone would be happy. I play Staff ele, so if I got a Dagger and a Focus, I would sell them just the same.
Not only that, but I share all the loot I get with my Guild, so that someone is always happy. Plus, it makes it all the sweeter when you finally get a godly piece of loot you can use.”

Yes, but at least it would be something you could use some other time, in my case I wasn’t even able to equip the rewards. Which makes it even sadder, because I’m still running with a crappy, outleveled gear myself.

Ok, so I’ve just finished explorting Kessex Hills and got myself some sweet trident and coat mail for a reward, yey for me…Except that I’m a thief and the hell should I do with those rewards, other then selling them?

Can’t those rewards be linked to our professions or at least profession categories, like Scholars, Adventurers and Soldiers?! Because otherwise the carrot at the end of the stick is a bit rotten…

Racial Elites not worth the skill points?

I know the devs don’t want any race to have a “Must get” elite skill but come on guys. The Asura elites and just silly.

My human would like to have a word with you… He is willing to exchange his Racials for Asura’s.

Aren’t the hounds of balthazar pretty good? I saw someone devastate some mobs with those, far better than our little battle suit that can’t do crap.

They’re not, any profession elite outshines those in terms of damage or utility and hounds are very-very fragile.

But Elite Racials are half the problem, other skills are useless crap, too. At least Asura get their utility skills right.

I’m using P/P for PVE and boss fights, in contradiction to a popular belief it has amazing utility-to-damage ratio.

Auto-attack causes bleed or turns into Repeater when stealthed.

Second skill causes stackable 5% defense debuff, pretty good for boss fights, no?

Unload is actually pretty decent and with crit bonus signet equipped it crits quite often.

Fourth skill, causes interrupt+daze, also spammable and it causes small damage, which means that if you hit yourself with it in pvp, you’re not screwed.

PBAoE Blind-what’s not to like there?

So yeah, pretty darn good, if you ask me, I do switch it to bow, from time to time, when I know I’m up against hordes of trash mobs.
