AC explorable is doable with a party of low levels. Annoying and time-consuming, but doable. It’s probably not worth the hassle if you’re only in it for the rewards, but if you’re just craving a challenge, go for it.
I tried to be open-minded about non-80s in dungeon groups, I really did, but after the tenth time I got stuck in a group with some awful low level who couldn’t stay alive for more than five seconds at a time, I started feeling a lot less willing to give lowbies a chance. My idea of a fun dungeon run does not involve reviving the same time-wasting moocher over and over and over.

Scroll down to the bottom and pick which dungeon/mode you want to read about. Some of the explorable pages are missing dialogue, but I think all the story mode pages have the cut scene dialogue. You can also look up the cut scenes on youtube.
I don’t know if anet considers this an exploit, but I don’t see anything wrong with it as long as you show courtesy and common sense – don’t switch to an alt that’s too low level to contribute to the fight at all(why on earth would you bring a level 10 to a level 75 dungeon?), don’t switch early in the fight and sit around at the entrance of the dungeon while the rest of your group 4-mans the final boss, don’t leave your group hanging on harder fights(you won’t even notice the difference between a level 35 and a level 80 on a brain-dead easy boss like Ghost Eater, but switching on Subject Alpha could be problematic), etc.
Dungeon switching is my primary method of leveling. Hearts and dynamic events are mind-numbingly boring, crafting is expensive, and WvW isn’t always an option, so this is pretty much the only way for me to level my alts that doesn’t make me want to bang my head against a wall.
I pull my weight on my 80 for 99% of the run and then switch to my lowbie at the last minute to claim my reward. It’s better than doing the entire dungeon on a non-80 and being utterly useless to my group.
I enjoyed most of Arah story mode, but yes, the infamous “press 2 to kill Zhaitan” portion is anticlimactic and horrible. Who came up with that idea?
I am interested in everything to do with the asura, so hell yeah I would make an Inquest character if given the chance. It would be really interesting to see how the Inquest works from the inside.
Heard a new one today after using “hold the line”.
“I have often been described as a young Snaff, only much more intelligent.”
Whenever I start to think I’ve heard every piece of asura dialogue, a new line crops up and makes me smile. I’ve been playing the little guys since launch and they still manage to surprise me.
Paid race changes should be implemented. Rerolling is great for people who enjoy leveling, but for many people getting a new character to 80 is just a tedious and time-consuming chore. I don’t want to level the same class twice because of a cosmetic issue like race.
This. A thousand times this.
Hopefully anet will fix this soon.
You can easily re-enter and rejoin your team.
And waste 5-10 minutes running back to them depending on which dungeon you were in and where your team was when you disconnected.
It’s a bad design.
I discovered a new one today when I was using my asura guardian’s “hold the line” skill: “The castle is ours! This place will make an excellent lab.”
The more I play these guys, the more I love them. ;w;
In my experience, kicking people from dungeon groups for the lulz is not a very common practice. I run dungeons with pugs on a daily basis and I have not yet encountered this behavior.
If you get kicked once or twice you might just have bad luck with groups, but if this is a routine occurrence for you you’re probably doing something to deserve it.
If random world mobs reliably dropped good loot, players would feel encouraged to farm those mobs to make money. Encouraging players to do something boring(e.g. standing in a field grinding centaurs for 10 hours) instead of something interesting (dungeons, WvW, PvP) is bad game design. Hence, vendor trash drops. GW2 is not a Korean grindfest MMO.
Also, the trading post is a thing.
1) Are you running with a decent amount of survivability? Ignoring defensive stats and traits is a common mistake made by people who are used to playing games where only the tank classes need survivability and everyone else just needs to maximize their damage output. That is not how GW2 is designed. For the most part, everyone is responsible for their own survival – you are SUPPOSED to be worrying about yourself. You can’t hide behind an immortal meat shield while a healer tirelessly works to keep your health at 100%. Some classes excel at support, but they can’t single-handedly keep you alive throughout the entire dungeon.
Full DPS (also known as glass cannon) builds are usually terrible for dungeons unless you are very experienced. You will have an easier time in dungeons if you can take a hit without instantly dying.
2) Do you know what your profession’s damage mitigation skills are? Every profession has some skill that allows them to block attacks, become invulnerable, break stun, etc. Equip your “oh crap” buttons and be ready to pop them when you get in trouble.
3) Are you trying to melee mobs that are melee-unfriendly? Many dungeon mobs in GW2 simply hit too hard to be melee’d or have other abilities that make melee impossible.
If you are going into dungeons without a scrap of toughness or vitality on your character, no damage mitigation abilities equipped, and you’re mindlessly throwing yourself into the jaws of every mob you see, then yes, you are going to die horribly.
Yes, GW2 dungeons are harder and more demanding than dungeons in other MMOs, and the difference in difficulty can be shocking at first, but you will quickly get used to them. They are really not that difficult if you play sensibly.
I will never, ever understand people who complain about the “mandatory grind” for ascended gear.
In WoW, you have to fully replace all of your gear every few months or you will be useless.
In GW2, people who enjoy grinding have the option of grinding for a shiny pink piece of gear with a miniscule stat advantage, and people who don’t want to grind will continue to get along just fine with their rares and exotics.
The only place where ascended gear is “mandatory” is high level fractals, and even so, it’s possible to progress very far into fractals without a single point of agony resist on you. By the time you reach high level fractals, you should have acquired more than enough materials to buy or craft ascended gear, so I don’t see that much grind there. It’s not like you have to go stand around in a field killing boars for ten hours to get your gear. Or is running a fun dungeon multiple times also considered a grind to you people?
If you think a 0.001% increase in damage is so vital that you simply must subject yourself to this ever so torturous grind to get a slightly better piece of gear, then you have no one to blame but yourself for your “suffering”.
LF1M means just that – they need one more person. There’s nothing inherently sketchy about it. In fact, I prefer joining LF1M groups because I know we’ll be able to start the dungeon immediately after I join.
Wulfghast’s screenshot is from Arah story mode.
I would consider it more of an easter egg than a lore confirmation. That said, I can’t imagine why they would go through all the work of adding an intricately detailed corpse to the game if he wasn’t really dead. Then again, I can’t imagine why they would go through all the work of adding an intricately detailed corpse that most people will never see…
@Dinny: The NPCs are just south of Applenook Hamlet waypoint. There’s also a charr and norn orphan, and a human boy who acts as the leader to their little “gang”. (I guess the nice lady who fosters them all wanted the full set. :P) They have some very cute dialogue.
Some kid’s icky, flaky, crusty scab isn’t the same thing as a warrior’s glorious battle wound. I don’t see anything wrong with a young charr cub having this reaction, warrior culture or no. Children are silly – the same cub who was squicked by the other cub’s scab would probably ooh and aah over a soldier’s bloody gash, the same way a human child might gleefully roll around in the mud in their backyard, then later get upset when they spill a little ice cream on their clean clothes.
(Well, childhood experiences may vary, but that describes my young self pretty accurately.)
The way I see it, the “wanna see my scab?” comment isn’t that different from saying “wanna see my wart?” Gross. No thank you sir.
Rilke Cadmus, that idea is genius.
I don’t get the impression that Efut has any kind of mental disability. She seems more like she’s just not very brainy/interested in scholarly pursuits, like the asura in Rata Sum who wants to move to Divinity’s Reach and sell baked goods.
Or maybe she wasn’t raised among her own race – there’s a place in Gendarran Fields where an orphaned asura child is being raised by a human, after all.
We don’t really know what Efut’s deal is. I would like to see more official backstory for her. She’s an interesting character.
In the asura “jail” in the lowest level of Rata Sum, I saw an interesting conversation between two NPCs – a prison warden and an imprisoned asura.
Zaiyah: (sigh) Can I go home now?
Prison Warden Zikki: Have you figured out the solution for the quadratic matrix of a cubic paradigm when used in a flux inhibitor yet?
Zaiyah: No.
Prison Warden Zikki: Well, when you can answer that simple math problem, I’ll let you out.
Sometimes Zaiyah answers “Um, yes?” instead, and Zikki replies “Nice try, Zaiyah. You’re going nowhere.” (Paraphrasing, I don’t have a screenshot of that particular exchange.)
When you talk to Zaiyah, his dialogue is: “Why won’t anyone tell me why I’m in this cell?”
The containment plaque outside Zaiyah’s cell reads:
“Stated name: Apprentice Zaiyah, also known as Zaiyah the Blundering Idiot.
Reason for Stasis: Too stupid to be left alone.
*Warning: Stay back, or you’ll catch his stupid."
So…yeah. The conversation may be taken out of context, but it seems to imply that less intelligent asura aren’t treated very well, to say the least. As much as I love the snarky little guys, I can’t imagine they treat the mentally challenged members of their society humanely. They’re cruel enough to those they consider equals.
Asura who are merely a bit slow can probably manage to scrape out a living in the asura equivalent of minimum wage burger-flipping jobs, but outright mental disability probably leads to a very miserable existence.
…that the random letters in our elixir names actually mean something.
Elixir H heals you.
Elixir S shrinks you and the toss effect gives you stealth or stability.
Elixir B gives you multiple boons.
Elixir R refills your endurance and the toss effect revives allies.
Elixir C converts all conditions to random boons.
Elixir U gives you quickness and a random utility skill from another profession.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who never noticed this before.
I approve of this. +100 awesomeness points to you, sir.

In my opinion, the voice acting in GW2 is just…okay. It’s not as bad as WoW, where EVERY character DRAMATICALLY OVER-ENUNCIATES everything THEY SAY in the most AWKWARD possible way, but not as excellent as DA:O, where most of the dialogue is so natural you almost have to stop yourself from replying to the characters out loud. There are good things about it – for example, the characters with deep voices (mostly kodan, norn, and charr) are actually played by people with deep voices, not average people who are awkwardly trying to make their voices sound deep – but for the most part it’s alright.

Learning a new skill: “I’ve puzzled something else out!”
Downed: “You? Beat me?”
After being revived: “It’s about time!”
Deploying a turret: “Turret constructed!”
Picking up a bundle: “The secret is to lift with the knees.” and “Augh, my back.”
Eating from a food tray: “Substandard, but edible.”
Obtaining an exotic: “Rare and valuable!” “Quite a reward!” and “Now this is a find!”
Feared: “Executing escape plan!”
I really wish there was some way to get my hands on all the audio files for the asura dialogue. It’s just awesome.
