Movement Glitch in Lion's Arch Aerodome

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

In the Lion’s Arch Aerodome there are a bunch of piles of crates surrounding the waypoint, as well as a wagon with some BLTC flags laying across the top. Occasionally when jumping around on the crates, and very commonly when jumping off of the wagon, there is a movement glitch.

I have been able to replicate this glitch most reliably by jumping off the wagon from the corner nearest to the waypoint, jumping towards the waypoint. It will jerkily teleport my character to different parts of the room, sometimes temporarily and then bouncing me back to my original position, sometimes permanently leaving me at a new spot in the room. A few times it has even killed my character, leaving my body at the point of landing. One time it sent me to the very far southeast corner of the Lion’s Arch map in a normally inaccessible area, dead.

Attached is a picture of the wagon in question.

Poison Damage?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

I have been playing around with a viper venomshare build on my thief and although it may not be meta, it’s a lot of fun! I have also been doing a bit of the Molten Boss farm and I noticed that the poison condition is doing much more damage than expected (up to 8k per tick). Is this normal, or should I be doing more than this?

I’m not looking for people to tell me to reroll class or go full zerker (been there, done that). I’m just wondering about how much damage poison could/should be doing. Any advice would be appreciated.

Mayan Symbols in Mastery Lines

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

I have noticed that there are several Mayan symbols used in the HoT mastery lines. The icons for multiple different mastery lines are single or combined Mayan symbols. I have spent a few hours doing some research and I have compiled a few translations, but I’m tired and I don’t have the time to finish all of them tonight.

The following mastery lines have Mayan symbols of one form or another:
*Pact Commander 1-5
*Legendary Crafting 1-3
*Fractal Attunement 2-4
*Gliding Mastery 2-3, 4 & 6
*Itzel Lore 2-3

The other mastery line symbols don’t appear to be Mayan, but the ones I have listed are definitely based on Mayan symbols. I may have missed it, but has Anet made a statement about the use of Mayan symbology in the mastery lines? As a high school Spanish teacher and a frequent visitor of Mayan ruins in the Yucatan Peninsula, I’m extremely interested in the use of these symbols in my favorite game. If anyone knows more about this subject, or is willing to help with some research, I would appreciate it!

As a side note, all of the different types of Hylek have many similarities to the Maya and Aztec beliefs and languages. Someone at Anet is a Mesoamerican scholar!

Whatever the reason, thanks Anet!

Cliffside Scale 59

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

I recently completed Fractal Scale 59 (Cliffside) and it was a doozy. Combine the Mistlock Instability “Last Laugh” (enemies explode on death) and the new mechanic at the arm seals and it creates some headaches. I attempted this one 3 different times, and each time the whole group left but me and then refilled with new players, sometimes just to have everyone bail again due to sheer frustration. Nobody could agree on a strategy that would work, and NOBODY wanted to change gear/traits and try something different.

After spending almost as much time doing research online as I spent failing at the level, I decided that I was going to find any guides (I know it’s still early since the update). I finally found a group of pugs that was willing to experiment, and we figured something out!

This probably isn’t the best strategy, but it worked for us.

-We started by sending our whole team onto the right platform (the one closest to the exit) and we stayed there killing the mobs as soon as possible. When someone got a hammer charge they would hit right side and drop hammer.

-We proceeded to clear the right side exclusively. A new player picked up the hammer, got a charge, and rushed to left side. I went along with them (on thief) and they used their sustain abilities (aegis, endure pain, etc) to get a hit on the left seal. As soon as they hit the seal I would stealth them to drop aggro, and together we headed back to the right side.

-We allowed left side to heal while focusing entirely on keeping right side from healing. By killing the mobs asap it was never too crowded or dangerous, and by stealthing away from left side we avoided drawing all the mobs into the hallway. We focused right side until it was broken, then it was a simple task to head back to left side and focus it.

-Again, we did all of our fighting on the porch. Fighting in the hallway doesn’t leave enough room to avoid the explosions, and it kept both sides of mobs from aggroing at the same time.

This worked for us, and after so many fails and angered pugs I felt that it was worth my time to explain how we were able to do it.

TL;DR
Pick a side and focus it by fighting on the porch and not in the hallway. Use stealth to break aggro when attacking far side.

To be fair, your MMR is different on each of your characters, so switching classes every few games counteracts the “50% win/loss” thing that is supposed to happen.

Difference between ranked and unranked

in PvP

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, so [ranked] would were he not [ranked] called.”

- Colin Johanson (or someone along those lines)

During a “ladder season” ranked arena keeps track of your win/loss record and ranks you on a leaderboard. As of today there is no ladder season, so as for being a “ranked” arena it is a bit misleading because you aren’t really being ranked.

For now, the only difference is that ranked doesn’t include Spirit Watch, Skyhammer, or Courtyard maps. That, and some players have unofficially decided that ranked is a bit more competitive and players have a tendency to be slightly more skillful (according to some, that’s very subjective).

Also, ranked and unranked have separate MMR ratings, so you may find your matchups vastly different depending on how you perform over time in each arena.

Is this new, or have I just not noticed it before? Is anyone else experiencing this?

I would say it’s because even after the June patch which made every class hit so much harder, celestial d/d ele is still able to withstand the increased damage, bunker a point, and deal a ton of damage on its own.

Some people think it’s a faceroll build that requires no skill, but I’ll leave that to the pros to answer.

What does Personal Score really tell you?

in PvP

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

I always hear that personal score doesn’t mean anything about how a player did in a match, and in part I think that’s true. You can earn points for all kinds of stuff that don’t really contribute to a win for your team. That being said, I find it rare that a really strong player ends a match with very few points, or that a really crappy player ends with hundreds of them.

I was told in a match recently that not only does personal score not matter at all, but that, in fact, the player with the highest PS is actually the worst player on the team. The same person also told me that saying “hello team!” at the beginning of a match was the sure sign of a noob pve allstar scrub, so I take his advice with a grain of salt.

Anyway, what are your opinions about what a player’s personal score means about their gameplay and their overall contribution to the team? What are score ranges that show exceptional/subpar play? Why do we even have PS still?

Broken stealth?

Dietere.3476

I’m wondering if the bomb path on the dredge fractal is affected by this. With the way it works now, a large stack of stealth is really the only way to complete that part of the fractal. Not that having a bugged fractal means anything will be fixed, but I’m just curious how many other aspects of gameplay will be affected by this?

How about Caithe’s skills in the Living World missions?

Revealed bug introduced with patch 3

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

So…with this “bug” , thieves cannot restealth immediately after failing a backstab…and thieves players say the game is now unplayable…hmmmmmmmmmm

Entire aspects of the thief class are broken. An entire trait line is invalid due to these changes. Shadow Refuge, a staple skill, has lost over 50% of its effectiveness.

Imagine if some of these things happened:
-Mesmers now only get 2 clones
-Warriors only get 2 bars of adrenaline
-Guardians only get 2 virtues
-Elementalists only get 2 attunements

These are obvious exaggerations, but they would significantly change the entire mechanics of the classes. Entire builds and trait lines rely on class mechanics, and a change like we are seeing with stealth completely changes the thief class (as well as mesmer, ranger, and engi to a certain extent).

This is not a “qq poor thf” thread. It’s a “Anet, you broke your game, please fix it” thread.

If this is a real thing that will be happening, it needs some explanation. This is a MAJOR change to several classes (primarily thief) and it should not come as an unlisted ninja update. If this change is really going into effect, Anet needs to address it.

If this is a bug, it needs to be fixed ASAP. When they figured out that Mesmers couldn’t PvP, they fixed it almost immediately. This bug essentially keeps every thief build except S/D out of pvp. This is not something that should wait until morning. Go back to the office and fix your broken game.

Selling FOTM Tiers? That's a thing?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

It’s much faster to simply complete a fractal L50 than to grind out 20g and buy it. Even at 10g/hour, which is pretty optimistic, a decentish L50 group can finish the whole thing in less than 2 hours. It’s only really time-saving to farm the gold if:

  • …you’re incapable of finding good pubs/friends to run with.
  • …you yourself are not very good.
  • …you find a really cheap seller (~8g).

While it is true that gold per hour is better earned in other places, I don’t think that’s what buyers are thinking about at all.

For example, some days I have several hours to play, while other days I have ~30 min total to play. That’s not enough time to get anything significant done, especially since my playtime varies and I don’t have a static FotM speed run group. If I want to get my daily 50 clear done and I only have 30 min to do it, buying a run is worth it to me. It’s not about gold per hour, or not being capable or “skilled” enough to do it myself, it’s about getting the most out of my very limited play time.

In regards to gold per hour, though… If you get lucky and get an ascended chest, that’s approximately a 50g drop. I know that’s it’s a gamble and you won’t always (or sometimes ever) get drops that you want, but the convenience of having it done in a matter of minutes is worth the cost to some people.

Again, if you don’t like the idea of buying a Fractal run, don’t do it. Feel free to look down on those who do, but understand that when there is a demand, there will be people who will supply.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

I know people pay 20g for FOTM 50 sometimes on NA. I guess people have more money than time? Or skill?

Absolutely. It’s easy to get 20g in SW and then pay your way to rewards in other content that you’re not good enough to do yourself.

Why assume buyers aren’t “good enough” to complete it themselves? While there may be a few players that do this, I would argue that more buyers are prioritizing time over money. Judge as you will, though.

Selling FOTM Tiers? That's a thing?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Dietere.3476

Dietere.3476

I once purchased a 50 for 15g (and happened to get an ascended chest!). I did it because I have very limited time to play and I can’t afford the time it takes a fail pug group to struggle through a full set at level 50. I am at the point where the ascended chests, rare skins, and the tonic are worth paying a high price so I can do it once per day. If I have time I will do the full set pug-style, but if people are selling and I’m short on time it’s worth it to me to pay up for the RNG roll, no matter how bad the odds.

If there is a demand, people will supply regardless of how it is viewed by the community.

Also, when a group loses a player on or just before the final boss fractal, why not make a quick profit by selling the spot rather than just doing an open LFG? Seems like smart business to me. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

I honestly dont’ know how hard it is for you. But I find it hard to believe people actually find it hard. I usually pug, and I dont’ see other people having problem.

Legendary imbued shaman is much harder than this boss atm even if you can’t kill the ice thing at the top.

I’m not sure what your intention is. But it’s quite comical to see people saying a dungeon is too hard just because they can’t solo it or speed clear in a few second.

As has been stated, I never claimed that the boss was hard. The problem is the mechanics of the encounter make the fight annoying and frustrating. Remember when people thought the same about dredge and the pointless mechanics were changed to something a bit more logical and, I guess, fun? That’s what I would like to see for this encounter.

The Elemental Source part is pointlessly tedious. Why did they remove killing the top part of the source? Between the 1-shot ele attacks, the constant knockbacks, and the impossible-to-keep-lit fires, the thing is a nightmare.

How about a middle ground where you can kill the top part during each phase? It can respawn for each phase, but even a short time without it blasting you every which way would be nice.

Also, we still get stuck in the wall during the last boss? WTF?
