I always felt that participation should be somewhat split between players so that after more than 5 players accomplish a kill or capture the participation is split between all who took part. Mostly this would just mean that the larger the group the longer it would take to maximize participation, hopefully thinning out SOME of the population instead of promoting blobbing right from the start.
Also I felt a map change should cost a tier or 2 of participation but that’s just me.

It worked fine at 1200 range and the only reason it was ever nerfed in the first place was to make Longbow look better by comparison.

This. Shortbow was the better weapon of the two between it and Longbow. It took lots of tuning to make Longbow the better weapon which did include quite a few nerfs to shortbow, the range being the biggest one.

I had a build before the current 3 traitlines that abused signet of the wild based off of bird pets that would get 25 stacks of might without strength of the pack and I’d give them quickness with the damage buff from signet of the wild….and enemies died quickly. It was a thing of beauty…who knows what they plan unless they are finally going to bring out an elite signet that may do what the old signet of the wild now used to do, or something similar.

I still just miss the original sword animations…they were amazing and had more skill potential with detargetting to pull off 2-3 pounces in a row for chasing/kiting/leaping through a zerg.

Which is it – do you want more people playing WvW or do you want them to go do PvE, because as it stands you won’t get many new players with this reward system either way.

You vets need to stop being snowflakes and make up your minds – do you want more people playing WvW or don’t you?

Vets want more people PLAYING WvW, not complaining about how bad the best rewards WvW has ever witnessed are.

Do I as a WvW player want the reward offered from the raids? Yes I do. Am I willing to put forth the TIME and EFFORT to find a group that’s capable and be able to be a good contributor to the group? No, not really…so I just don’t do it, and I play other aspects of the game(like WvW). Complaining doesn’t exactly need to happen and is drawing the ire of the people who were enjoying the game mode well before these rewards and even the previous added reward tracks.

If the solution is to simply not die (in order to get your loot) then this promotes extremely defensive play and also favors those in nomads gear or players who stack vitality or toughness, as their ability to tag enemies is the same as offensive builds, and yet their survivability is much higher then offensive builds. I figured making it automatically go into your inventory would make build survivability a moot point and avoid the disappointment I outlined above.

This isn’t some pve farming run where the goal is to tag everything, please stop treating it as such. Groups win or lose battles based off of a balance of offense and defense, if these allies that keep winning your battles for you had no offense you’d have no bags whatsoever to loot and we likely wouldn’t be here…so be glad all defense is NOT the meta.

Looting itself is an action that under normal circumstances must be activated with the action key (F default). Just like anything else which used the action key such as ressing, stomping, repairing, building, or even equipping/manning a piece of siege you had to be alive or at the least not downed to complete it. This was because it’s part of the game’s mechanics for loot, so even if you can “auto” loot, you still can’t do it while dead.

Maybe in the future they can add something to put your mastery points in for zombie hoarder or something.

Your server gains war score for holding objectives, capturing objectives, and killing enemy players. Participation is based off of you helping your server gain that war score through holding objectives, capturing objectives, and killing enemy players(minus the harpy, wurm, and warg events). If you’re not able to help capture, defend, or kill any enemies you’re not participating in any scoring whatsoever.

And whatever commander you have that charges headlong into certain doom repeatedly from the spawn should not be followed.

Part of the tactic, and part of the fun. Impossible to say the same of that teleporting jumping with unnecessary PvE CC annoying lords, that is NOT fun, just ask people, make a poll. That mechanics should be for PvE only maps, not for PvP.

Sure there are defensive and offensive tactics regarding walls and that IS part of the fun, unless one side hopelessly outnumbers the other, then you’re just beating on a wall. The lord is the same way but actually can offer some bit of counterbalancing to help an outmanned defender stand a chance. Why should the fun stop with the structure itself?
Besides, just like there is strategy to where you place siege to attack or defend an objective, the lords of keeps should at least require SOME strategy to kill if some enemies are defending him.

We already have the ability to have a “closed squad” where people can only join if invited, so what is the harm in making that tag invisible to those not in the squad? I don’t understand.

The features come with the Tag, not the squad. The link to their reply as to why they don’t want invisible tags sums up their thoughts on tags and why they exist. Your walls of text are not going to change their minds after almost 5 years of this, and I would not be surprised that if you keep pushing they’ll change squads to disband after 30 seconds of being commanderless.

Draconis Mons is actually the inside of the main island of the ring of fire island chain, and not the surface. It seems we only find out about its existence from following Balthazaar’s trail. The actual surface of it should still have remains of the main Mursaat fortress that was protecting a bloodstone…which should also still be there and would be interesting to see.

Also as a side note Primordus’ trail went through ember bay before he seemingly got to the main island and that was where Taimi sent that group(which most people thought was dangerous anyways). I figure they would start there and if it was a good idea spread out to the other islands instead of going to likely the most dangerous one first.

I understand that people wish to hamper the omni blob behavior. The best, but costly, would usually come down to map design. Most other ideas have been artificial number changes. I also suspect incoming damage cap increases server load because it adds that additional step of denial (sort of like DDOS).

This was why they designed the desert borderland the way they did when it first came out. Blobs didn’t like it because it hampered the blob lifestyle, however when the blobs went to eternal most of the fight groups had to follow because they had few blobs to fight on the desert maps…anyways we saw what most of the community thought of the desert borderlands when they were 1st designed to reduce blob effectiveness.

If the rest of the playerbase like it then where are they? You only have to look at the kill/death stats over the 3 borders to gauge the activity and you can see that there is little action taking place on the DBL map

Standard pug zergs get eaten for breakfast there, one big wipe and they’re usually done with the zone(lowering activity you like to state) as they lose too much manpower from people killing THEMSELVES falling off cliffs, getting picked off by people who know the map, getting hopelessly lost, or just not taking the optimal path to join the tag. Any pugmander that can’t rely on having 100% of his squad to back him up usually has to backpedal to get in a situation more under their control, hence leaving the zone.

Sadly the pugs that rely on following people usually won’t take the time to learn the map themselves so the cycle will continue.

FYI, WvW isn’t about “exploring”, that’s what the pve maps are for.

But I highly doubt you even know about the many golem hiding spots all around in alpines, or where the best siege placements are, and when you see those spots and how connected the camps, towers, and keeps are, you start to see how much more better alpines is that regards to map play. Desert pretty much has everything separated.

Do a little exploring in DBL and you’ll find much more of the very same things than there are in Alpine. We’re pushing 2 years of Desert and still finding new siege placements and hiding spots, whereas 90% of Alpine’s secrets were learned in 2 months.

Currently the vote is 33% for desert and 67% against, which is ironic to me as there are 4 maps you can go to between EB and the borderlands so you’d think it would be at LEAST 75% against, because they’d be filling up the other 3 maps.

The barricades sucked. They punished anything without maxed out power damage and stopped roamers/small groups dead while zergs brought them down in seconds going “lolololol1111111111111”.

It was one of the worst features GW2 has ever had.

They were supposed to stop single players, that was much of the point. They made more sense as actual walls than barricades since the zergs COULD just roll over them so easily. Still, people just apparently want a flat zone with no objectives to just fight players and only players. That would just be like a war in Antarctica.

My guild runs wvw 3 nights a week and all our guild missions are wvw based, and when HoT came out the missions were even more rewarding than before with the inclusion of resonating slivers(remember when those were like 5-6 gold a piece cause supply was nonexistent?). We would run the missions tagged up with 8-14 of us and pugs would follow and help us out having fun in the process(except the times we lost badly, ha!). Borlis Pass was around T6 I believe but even we would have good fights with other guilds doing their missions, especially the original Oasis event, and it wasn’t getting blobbed like it was in the high tiers so it was fully functional and a total blast as many teams had to split in order to succeed and couldn’t just roll in one pack to win.

In any case even though this was reward based, the general population of our server benefitted from the open activity of what my guild was doing…whereas enemies got some competition to face at the same time. In those tiers blobbing wasn’t a thing so it was basically all small to medium scaled and was relatively balanced. Sadly it’s much harder to come by that with the server linkings.

Desert Borderland Map

The two fundamental problems with Desert BL are:

1) Strategic importance of various objectives is lacking. The towers are worthless, and in terms of taking keeps, only the camps are useful because there are treb spots to hit the keeps in the camps, not the towers.

2) It’s a painful map to play offensively on. With the latest shrine changes, it’s defensive enough and defenders can move around fairly fast: but with movement between the northern half and the southern half being so kitten poor for attackers, nobody wants to go on the offensive on this map with a large, fighty group, and so there’s little to no action, so defenders eventually leave the map leaving it open to ktrainers.

1. Already stated here with all the towers having walls and later replaced by barricades, which actually helped them control a slightly larger area than they currently do. Now they are similar to Alpine towers where they control nothing and you just walk past. Players didn’t like towers having barricade walls though, so they got removed.

2. Originally each team would have a WP based on their closest major objective, the desert garrison for the home team and the two southern towers for the attacking teams. These Waypoints were gained immediately on owning the objective, no upgrades needed, however the side keeps had no waypoints for any team. Players did NOT like this either, saying the towers having the waypoints were stupid because it was a tower, while this later changed to the nearby keep, players then didn’t like that either because it was too strong because it was a keep, and so waypoints went back to being a t3 upgrade.
Sad to say but the map had better mobility than it currently does at release but many players just didn’t like that.

Guild Mission Capture and Hold is Annoying

I love cap and hold tower, don’t like camp, and keep is not impossible but highly improbable for my guild. My guild plays desert borderland about 98% of the time during our runs, we usually have 5-10 people. Tower is the most engaging as it is perfect for the size of our guild to take and defend, yet upgrading it can be tricky at times. Yak missions at the least will keep us out of trouble because if we go too far from the primary camp…it’s gone. Staying close and applying pressure to the nearby keep is also a red flag as that usually summons a group of 20-30 enemies which either roll us and then the tower or we can hold them at the tower but all supply gets cut off for an extended period of time while the time runs out. Still we always do but the response time of large groups nowadays is fast any time a keep gets flagged and they are usually hungry for anything they can flip nearby which is what we’ve worked on.

Cap and Hold WAS originally designed for automatic upgrades but the mission didn’t change when the yak requirement did. Perhaps something could be adjusted? Time would really be the only thing needed.

The Mursaat did as much as they could to stop the release of the Titans…so once Khilbron released them…he had them destroy the beings that knew the most about the Titans, the Mursaat. That and I believe it was in the incomplete Flameseeker Prophecies that Khilbron was following(he didn’t know he didn’t know the full one and that he was gonna lose).

Still the most enjoyable mode of the game, although my guild went from 10-18 players at release for runs every day at almost any time of day to 4-10 players three nights a week. For a group our size we just don’t run into many like-sized groups anymore, it’s either all solo groups or zergs, server linking hurt what we do a bit but we still survive after a year of it. Still lots of fun but still lots of annoyance just from group size(even allied zergs showing up crushing a group of enemies we’ve had good fights with).

Why should we have to do inventory management at all? I can’t think of a single game reason why I should have to be a part-time accountant to play a game.

If there were a lore reason, I could understand it. But, there’s not.

If there were a game mechanic reason, I could understand it. But, there’s not.

I’m willing to spend a lot of money to get more space. And, until someone can articulate a valid reason why not, I’ll continue to argue for more space.

You should do inventory management because you have an inventory that you put crap in. There’s a game mechanic reason, it’s called F to loot or autoloot. That stuff you pick up? It goes in your inventory… you know, the one that you are responsible for? If you don’t want to manage it, don’t loot.

If parking chars at the Verdant Brink flax farm and spending less than a minute per character farming it once a day is too much for you…pity. If 50% of the WvW population was doing this the price of fibers(and seeds) would easily drop.

I have the feeling a 2nd poll would still favor linking as people who do not like it are probably not playing because of said linking and won’t be around to vote :P
Still I miss life on Borlis Pass before linkings.

Yeah, in my match the first place server has won all but one skirmish.

Here’s a better idea, balance the population and you will have a better WvW for all.

P.S. My server has won only one skirmish this match, the other server has zero wins.

This is assuming B and C get 2nd(B) and 3rd© repeatedly. Which score seems closer? There’s still a 70 point gap between A and B but the new scoring actually has C MUCH closer than they would have been to A and might have more participating later in the week.
As for population, server linking was supposed to help solve that but there will always be a chunk of players that will pay to tip the scales so that they more easily achieve victory.

Much better than the previous system! Skirmishes themselves may need something else for the average player to notice skirmish results, like a line in the chat box of war scores at the end of a skirmish, or even a minor reward for participating in a skirmish(though we have a good amount of rewards already).

Anet has the data from the past yes, but with skirmishes in place player behavior could change resulting in differing results.
You can’t underestimate how people’s playstyles change if something they like or dislike gets put into the game.

One mistake in 4 years, yup, time to complain on the forums for more gold.

Sadly the 1st response almost hits the nail on the head. The OP doesn’t seem to understand why they shut it down, just that they are mad it was.

So a restaurant gets a new dish(the patch) and ingredients in that dish manage to spread e coli or salmonella or something bad(the soulbound glitch). Once multiple people begin to get sick from it, they realize something is wrong and shut the restaurant down to clean and sanitize(fix and rollback). If you were to drive up to the restaurant for lunch and it was closed, would you find somewhere else to eat lunch and come back a different day? Or would you stand outside the restaurant waiting for them to reopen it with NO SET TIME of when that will be?
The next day you go back there for lunch, do you walk in and say “HEY I couldn’t get lunch here yesterday cause of you idiots….give me a COOKIE!”

I really hope the OP didn’t sit at their computer the entire time waiting for the game to be back up, I’ve got 29.6k ap so I’ve played a lot…and still found other things to do in the meantime, the game doesn’t have to be the ONLY thing you try to do for 8.5 hours.

I’d had a thought earlier today based off the last thing he was doing before his disappearance. I figure the Black Citadel wants him to finish the ritual to rid Ascalon of the foefire ghosts and with his new revenant knowledge, he knows that’s either a bad idea, or him doing it as a revenant might have bad results for him, who knows?
