Is the HP and toughness of pets in WvW actually a bug or it’s the new mechanic? My fernhound died from the veteran harpy, which is quite a joke. If it’s how it is from now, then you just killed the core ranger and you assume we will all buy the new expansion. No matter what is the plans for the new expac, rangers didn’t deserve such a nerf bat in the nuts.

I didn’t talk to Irenio about WvW specifically, and I’ve not noticed this phenomenon myself, but I appreciate your insights.

Have other Rangers noticed this situation, as well? I’d like to see if there’s anything to be learned, as the more I know about general feedback, the better I will be able to express the question or concern.

My pets are melting in PVE against otherwise trash mobs… It makes easy fights a pain in the pixels…

Hey guys,

I met up with Irenio, who was heading into my area of the building to talk to me about this very bug. As it turns out, it’s quite a complicated issue and that’s why it took a while to address. But… it has been addressed, yaaay! The fix for this issue should be going out very soon, perhaps before the end of the week.

Naturally, for something this complicated, there are a lot of “layers to the onion” in getting it resolved, but it is very much in the devs’ minds, and help is on the way for our beloved, but lazy-seeming, pets!

Onion layers are pretty simple. I think the phrase you want is “a barrel of spaghetti” or “a vat of spaghetti” :P

Maybe a vat of gumbo…lol

Edited to say: Natural healing isn’t working AT ALL right now. so any debating it’s effectiveness is moot when it is bugged for people who do want to use it.

It’s working for me, what seems to be the problem? It heals the pet, and it generates AF (albeit slower ofc). Just tested – working.

I will put in a ticket then I guess… Combat window only shows signet heals…and if I change that signet….pet gets 0 healing in log or healthbar…none. Maybe it’s a glitch in my acct…

It’s not showing in the combat log, nor “over the head” of the pet. But if you pay attention to your pets healthbar, and AF bar if you run druid, you’ll notice that it is working. Easiest way to test is by letting the pet attack some random mob by himself.

Did that on all my Rangers, including Druid… No uptick in health…not even after fight before automatic full heal. I noticed the problem by the health bar not recovering in the first place… then started a deeper look. And I double checked the AF bar on my druid…with signet of renewal off and pet only attacking…no heals to pet…and no movement on AF bar…

I am wondering if anyone else is having a problem with the Trait Natural Healing?

All 3 of my rangers get 0 heals for the pet from it. Have had a couple others say it works fine on their Rangers… Now I am wondering if it’s just me ….

Did you try turning it off and back on again?

I mean the trait… If you haven’t unequipped it since the patch, try that, I dunno just throwing random ideas out there.

Appreciate the suggestion….I have done half a dozen silly things and nada… not even changing the trait line and back. All my pets are melting in seconds.

The healing power for pet on natural healing was useless like 90% of the time.
The new expertise training is actually a better trait now.
Go to the eyes(ppl use this trait?)
Core ranger was actually buffed in most areas.

1. Natural Healing worked well on my rangers.

2. Expertise is massively helpful, but only if you are condition focus

3. Go for the Eyes Was extremely helpful for me.

If Natural healing and swap bugs, as well as the druid staff 3 bugs were fixed, this wouldn’t be so problematic, but still a heck of a bad turn.. But the bugs AND the pet nerf make this horrid for people like me. I see no reason why the core ranger needed to be nerfed to help the NEW specialization.

Feels like they killed core Ranger to push people towards Soulbeast. My wife refuses to play until it’s fixed… and I am no longer excited about the preview weekend.

Rangers were in a decent place but instead of making them better, they rip away. Why they took toughness (if you chose that trait), healing, responsiveness… makes no sense. Even low to mid level mobs give pets trouble.

If they are going “All In” on this new Barrier mechanic and thinking it will balance it, then it should have been in this patch.

Been playing Main ranger since GW1. Now this is the first time i felt like i don’t play Ranger, but a Domestic pet owner with a bow.

You’ve got to be kidding me on the response time of pets now. Three pet mechanics that completely got destroyed by this patch.

Petswap = 3-4 seconds delay before the pet actually does anything. Which immediately nullifies any of the on-pet-swap bonuses. Rendering the pet completely useless.

F1 Skill = it takes another second delay for the pet to move

Ancestral Grace = SUPER DUPER BAD, how would it be that a pet magically dissapears and reappears from using the druid’s staff ability. Also: you can’t cast any of your pets special abilities while using Ancestral Grace. Furthermore -> it even interupts your pet’s autonomous special attacks which really screws up the game for rangers right now.

ArenaNet, you have dissapointed me deeply. I hope and expect to see this changed back ASAP.

And because of the vanish on ancestral grace, the delay of action happens as well as it doesn’t heal the pet.So now my Ranger and my Druid (my 2 Mains ) are as effective as wet noodles…

Toughness is down from that change, which is drastic, the pause on swap is game breaking. And my natural healing isn’t working at all, so my pet has almost no heals. Even minor creatures are problematic for pets.

This is probably the only time in over a decade of playing mmos that I believe that rolling back a change is needed. The changes to pets need to be rolled back.

Edited to add this: The pet changes are the only thing I have found in the entire patch that was truly troubling. Actually A lot of good, some not so much. But pets are designed to be the bread and butter of the Core Class…

hrm? if you have to fight it there are fortunately many options to attack things through walls, rocks, etc.

Perhaps, they are using the in-game Bug Report tool, as suggested (and preferred). One never knows. =)

Doing both never hurts, and only a couple said they had.

additional details: the battle at the end of tribulation rift jp apparently bugged out during someone’s previous hunt a few days ago, and chuka is dead & champawat is on about 70% health, stuck inside a rock, unable to be targeted. the event won’t end and has been active for several days

Chuka and Champawat 1: hunter’s journal part 10 is bugged. Event in progress showing 1 tiger dead but wagging and not allowing anyone to activate or progress through the collection.

Having played Ranger from Day 1, and also having a Druid, Pets are without question as much a part of Ranger/Druid as our weapons and Armor. After going through the Process for Nevermore, I wonder…

Would it not be reasonable to have the ability to create a SINGLE Legendary Pet for our Druids/Rangers added in a future release/expansion?

Like Legendary Weapons, with only slight Stat Differences, maybe a single relatively minor “Legendary” ability or characteristic but the ability to Choose which Species to “Raise” in a lengthy Process equal to other Legendaries, Maybe a choice in Role ( a wolf as a tank pet for example), a slight choice in Appearance (color, size )… This would create more of an importance on the choice…no longer just a disposable pet but a worthy companion… Even if only limited to full function in PVE and standard in WvW/PvP…

A thought… wondering if others agree or disagree…

Doc, I seem to have the opposite problem. I have a couple hundred keys that I’ve been looking to use, but can never seem to find a CF map. Maybe it’s just the time of day?

Time of day and server I am sure. Just like the old champ trains. I really do think there should be a map devoted to farming…some kind of challenge maybe to balance the gain, but give the farmers something. Otherwise it is a battle one way or the other for who gets their way. That’s not the fun kind of PVP…lol

I’m guessing you don’t have any luck posting through the LFG that you’re looking for an event map?

Actually I rarely group. I am old and retired and have a lot of things that will randomly drag me away from the pc…not fair to other people to have to wait. But I posted this because it is a lot more people than just me that this is causing issues for. An example is the post above saying he doesn’t find the CF maps. Both sides of the coin have challenges…

They ought to have chests accessible at a certain point in time, like in Dry Top. So at the end of the event chain there’s a break, when people can farm chests for a certain amount of time. Then chests vanish and the event sequence starts up again. So each map is a 100% event map part of the time, and a 100% farm map part of the time. Then there would be no mix, and no need to choose. You what the map has available at that time.(or hop to another map)

You know, I hadn’t considered that! Sounds brilliant to me.

They could extend the time between and make chests only available at those times. A win/win for all. Do the events for the shovels and in between event sessions use said shovels. Would likely keep the population in the maps higher and more active.

True, and making each chest once per account would work.

For me the problem is that I don’t want to take the ability to farm away from people that would rather easy button the loot, I just don’t want them taking the game from people that want to play instead.

Increasingly it is becoming more challenging to consistently find an event map than actually doing the events.

More and more often I see players fighting to take and hold bases, just for someone to pop in and declare it a CF map and take over, sometimes even saying " good luck with events when half the map is farm".

“Champ Trains” around the game were “fixed” because they were taking over an aspect of the game, yet the silverwastes takes a whole map when someone wants to farm instead of actually play.

I understand the desire to get loot with little effort, and there is a lot of currency and materials required for aspects of the game. I don’t care if people farm, but I do care when it stops people from playing the game.

I simply say this… ANET…please…for simplicity… either remove the ability to farm, or possibly more beneficial, remove the events from the Silverwastes so farmers will have their own place to be and will leave everyone that simply want to enjoy the game to do so in peace. Removing the events is probably the best choice, which is sad, I do really enjoy that map.

I’ve never really relied on pets for more than a short term meat shield/distraction… and like I said…I tend to run really weird builds…don’t wanna say exactly what or I will get flamed off the boards… but it has allowed me to solo/duo most everything short of a few of the dungeons… A delicate balance that fits a strange playstyle…

I usually Run LB/Sword+axe… with a defense/regen heavy sustained dps focus… An attempt to hit just the right balance of dmg/ and survivability…

If you are talking about mindless min/maxer type gameplay… But for a more solo/duo PVE standpoint without min/maxing… it is a bit more than painful. At least on the surface…

I seriously hope there is something in the changes we don’t know about that will allow compensation for these missing boosts… I have always favored my sustained dmg builds…

I can only assume I missed something. Why was the 5% dmg bonus from Eagle Eye removed instead of rolled into Lead The Wind?

And for that matter, I am wondering why they took away the regain Opening Strike on kill or regaining stealth.

Granted I tend to run rather strange builds, but I am looking at an instant 10% dmg loss as soon as this build hits and that’s before the stat changes.

Someone tell me I missed something and I shouldn’t be concerned….

Can't buy gems, just me or common issue?
