It’s not a good combat system.
Very blant combat system
Breakout events[/i]
Personally, I don’t like this solution.. PvE solution to a PvP problem.
Biggest issue is the tiny WvW maps in GW2, in a game like DAoC you could cut teleports of attacking realms and it would mean they’d have a very long travel time to get to your spawn, while in GW2 running from your spawn of the enemies spawn is very very very quick.
Anyway I’d rather see the breakout event open new teleport options to areas in the WvW map, instead of having a PvE guard PvE the keep for you.
It’s not like Thieves don’t fight other Thieves in WvW.
It’s easy, really.
“Target Nearest Enemy” > “Mark Target” > Stomp Cull’d Thief > ??? > Profit.
Typical reply.. but the issue is the culling makes it so you can’t target the thief, not even with Target Nearest Enemy… only thing that will hit a culled thief (or any class with stealth) is AOE damage.
Before they adjust thieves (or any class) they should FIX the culling problem.. only then will it be possible to see the real issues.
I’ve basically given up on playing the game, as my only interest is WvW and it’s unplayable due to the culling problem.
Culling issue makes anything with access to stealth OPed. Unfortunately that means thieves get most out of the culling issue.
Anyway the culling in WvW makes this game pretty much unplayable.
I’d have to login to answer this question, hence I’ll pass.
(Waiting for some WvWvW love – culling fix being priority #1 imho)
Name 1 fight in the entire game, that requires gear more so than good movement and utility selection.
Lol good movement and utility selection.. had a good laugh at this.. combat in GW2 is basically face rolling your skills that are not on cooldown. They failed miserably on the combat part… now the gear grind is following.

inc gear treadmill… bad bad bad idea.
And where’s the WvW love?! Patch after patch it’s SPvP stuff, with little to no content for WvW (except removing stuff to work around exploits instead of fixing the root cause, ie. dolyak missions, orb removal, …)

ArenaNet… make it happen!
I think the only boring thing is having all three borderlands exactly the same. While I understand the reasoning behind it, I think it would be great to have different, unique maps for each borderland, though set up in a similar style.
Indeed.. and since servers get reshuffled every few weeks.. not having those maps identically won’t pose an issue for balance. Since everybody will at one time get map X, Y or Z.

Taking DaoC as an example again, the old frontiers were always prefered over the new frontiers.
Personally opinion… I’ll take NF over OF anyday…
We all know the issue with WvW players not being rendered… but it seems another outcome of the algorithm in use, is that anyone that stealths will be invisible to others much much longer than on their own screen.
Seems it takes the client a long time to realise it has to render the model again.
Single currency for all dungeons/ current system discourages fun and varied gameplay with friends

How about a way to convert tokens from 1 dungeon in tokes of another dungeon albeit with a cost in the exchange… e.g. 20 arah tokesn give you 10 CoE tokes… or something like that.
Wouldn’t that be a workable solution?!
Sheppard bonus for people that have already done SM, which scales with the number of people in the group that haven’t run SM mode yet.
Have some gear NPC sell stuff for that sheppard bonus.. or give a chance at some drops people might be interested in.
I can already imagine the /M spam… Looking for Sheep!
(it’s actually what daoc did for ToA Master Levels)
Had this issue quite a few times too… a way to resolve it (albeit a bit of a hassle and probably too complex for some people), is to use format the URL yourself.. take the post URL, like for this one: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/forum/Some-threads-have-no-edit-quote-report-options then tack on the post number you want to quote and the thing you want to do, like ‘quote’
So if I wanted to quote the previous poster, it’d be something like:
(so.. URL / postnumber / quote )
Don’t need the score to tell me that kitten screwed up when I wake up and I’m locked in my spawn because the night team capped the entire map and built arrow carts and ballistas at all 3 spawn exits.
You can’t be locked into your spawn.. since you have 3 routes leading out of your spawn! Next time you’re in that position, just look at the paths left and right at the gate…
I absolutely love WvW. My favorite aspect of the game. I don’t pay attention to the score. The score has no bearing on my ability to capture or defend a point.
This… I hardly look at the score at all… I didn’t miss it in DAoC and I don’t need it in this game either. All it seems to do is make people cry about “night capping”.. as if other people are only allowed to play when they are online.
It’s a jumping puzzle in a PvP map,. ofcourse it’s by design! You don’t have to do it if you find it frustrating. Don’t forget that the borderland maps also have a (much much) easier jumping puzzle, that basically gives the same rewards.
Anyway I did that eternal BG jumping puzzle twice, wasn’t anyone around, but it was still a very frustrating experience, so save yourself the grief and just skip it. Easier to watch the youtube vid if you want to see what’s inside.
(or.. find a friendly mesmer that is at the chest and wants to drop you a portal, so you can basically port from the entrance of the dungeon to the very last bit.. ie the part after the pit)

Maybe your nephew should have enabled two factor authentication on his email account (ie like google provides on gmail)
No reason to sell expensive RSA tokens.. there’s cheaper solutions, esp since so many people these days have smartphones.
You can destroy them without taking the keep. Set up some ballistas below the cliff about half way between the Veteren flag guy and the hills and target the Trebs. #2 attack usually hits them. If the ballista doesn’t reach then try a few different spots. We have done this and have had this done to us so I know it works.
Good to know! Thx.
You can kill those trebs, and yes I’m certain this was intended. Anet has been play testing the game for years. Do think we players can come up with stuff they didnt’t think of?
Well, ok. The hackers, yeah. But normal game play, no.
I’m sure there’s heaps of things players figure out that ANet never thought of.. but anyway not here to discuss ANet’s testing department :-)
So how do you take those trebs out?! Don’t think you can shoot them from the ground, can you?
I was wondering why I don’t really feel much ‘pride’ in capping stuff in WvW or when my guild is able to claim a keep/tower… I’m not sure but I think it’s because there’s very little visibility in which guild has claimed structures.. in that other (10+ year old) RvR game, the guild names would be shown on the RvR status page and you could also see the names on the in-game map… or if you get close to a claimed structure, the in-game chat system would display the guild name that had claimed the structure…
Anyway it added a lot of visibility to which guild was helping the realm..
As for the server pride.. I think the difference with the old game was, that each server/realm had it’s own homeland, with none of the other 2 realms having a foothold in it… so it felt more like another realm was invading your land.. versus in WvW there isn’t really any ‘homeland’.. just a borderland map but there’s no invasion since both other 2 servers always have a foothold in it.
Think for me, that’s the 2 most important reasons why I don’t feel that involved in how the fight goes in WvW… it’s just open world fighting which, don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy.. much more than any of the 10 minute mini game PvP styles bring to the table.. but it’s missing finesse / character…
I wonder if the fact that trebs on the high hills of the center garrison keep can reach the walls of DB is an intended design?! Seems a bit iffy since you can’t really destroy those trebs, unless you take the garrison keep.
Just wondering…
I so wish there was an option to get a different color or different icon for the mouse cursor… so many times I have lost track of my mouse cursor in WvW combat, that it’s starting to get VERY frustrating!
And yet the solution is such an easy fix.. just give us another color for the cursor!
I’m not a dungeon runner.. have only done 2 dungeons since headstart.. but this really irks me.. I really don’t get why this artifical barrier is needed. Seems a bit like the dungeon lockouts in other MMOs, which I also don’t get.
Good thing I’m not really that interested in doing dungeons all the time.. I just hope some of these weird mechanics don’t get added to WvW… “whoops sorry, you can’t attack this keep, since you attacked it 30 minutes ago!”
Not to mention the fact that it used to take people 3 days of speed running to get a full set of the best armor in the game. The fact that the runs were done using exploits.
The amount of money being made by speed running these dungeons was so big that the in game money devaluated to an insane amount. If you check the gem prices of 1 week ago it was 36 gems/10s now it is 25 gems/10s. That means that in game money devaluated about 30%. Regardless that it is fake money, excessive amounts of gold at this point will destroy the economy. Not to mention gold farmers for RMT companies were doing this….etc etc etc. They are keeping the game healthy for the rest of us so stop complaining!
So? Fix the exploits.. fix the bot issue… secure the client so cheating/flyhacking/teleporting isn’t possible.. actually put security in the client.. but don’t punish normal players.
If a normal player feels like running dungeons 24/7 3 days in a row.. I think he deserves a medal (or a visit to the shrink)
As for the gold sellers.. instead of fixing the dungeons.. maybe they should implement some decent spam filters in the chat / mail system and catch those sellers.. or better yet.. catch the people buying the gold from them… people will think twice when buying gold from those shops if they risk loosing their account.
Bottom line.. if the dungeon DR fix is to get rid of the bots/RMT companies.. then it was a terrible idea…

Did this dungeon for the first time yesterday.. submarine path.. wasn’t that hard.. I personally didn’t have probs with Subject Alpha, since Phase Retreat on staff mesmer just teleports you out of the crystal.
Only issue we had was with the boss that you have to get to charge those pillars.. he didn’t want to do his charge move after a bit.. so we had to DPS him down through his super defense, doing like 1-2 dmg per hit… took us more than 1 hour to burn him down.
Maybe it’s you…
The problem you (and many others on this forum) seem to be having is one of expectations.
You are correct in saying that the problem is one of expectations. Most of us expect an enjoyable experience that is competitive. Most of the great team activities on this planet are based on good competition. The ones that are not have been lost by the wayside, the rejects in the evolution of games.
“Most of us” —- speak for yourself please! Or at least don’t speak for me…
Anyway we get it.. you don’t like WvW.. which is your right.. but what exactly are you trying to accomplish?! Having ArenaNet change WvW so it suits just your wishes?! No matter if all of us like it the way it is?!
If you want competitive PvP, ArenaNet made sPvP for that… if that isn’t to your liking either, then I guess you should try and find another game that you do like.
Lol, you should try playing on TC or maguuma. It would change your perspective.
No it wouldn’t.. My server is up against Vizunah[FR].. so I know quite well how it goes… and having played DAoC for many years, these situations aren’t new to me.
vnboards? Name looks familiar..
I was really just a lurker there though, only had 300~ posts
These days it’s postcount.net … vnboards went the way of the dodo.

Maybe one day Tarnished Coast & Maguuma will get smart and stop fighting eachother and zerg down Dragonbrand.
Too many people that are new to the concept of WvW/RvR and prefer crying on a forum instead of fighting for their server in an organized way.
So many times when I loose track of my mouse pointer during a heavy battle due to it not standing out.. might be a luxury problem of playing on 2560×1440 but I think just a change in the color of the pointer could go a long way.
Friend mentioned the same issue, so I take I’m not alone?! Anyone else have this issue?!
I’d be more worried about the food buffs and buffs you can get from locked chests which all work in WvW (+15% run speed buff for an hour, 5% dmg reduction, …)
That siege costs in-game money is normal imho. (that other RvR based game was the same.. siege had a monetary cost there too)
This is some good drama! Reminds me of QQ’s about alarm clock relic raids.
(playing myself on farshiverpeaks.. but don’t mind the current state.. makes for interesting fights in-game and on forum :P )
Just add some pre-L80 WvWvW battlegrounds (like DAoC)… smaller and with less or no contribution to the WvWvW score.. that should free up the main WvWvW zones and give everybody something to do except queue.
with 50 people you wouldn’t be able to get a shatter off due to your target already being dead, stop bullkitten and leave your dreamworld where you think mesmers are perfect since every class has its flaws
Maybe read before trying to be rude….
“if stuff is still alive, shatter”
They lack burst aoe dps and so its difficult to reliably get good contribution rewards or kill credit in PVP and PVE.
No they don’t.. plenty of AOE damage on GS+Staff+Shatters… think we might even have the most AOE damage of all classes. Can’t remember the last time I didn’t have gold contribution in an event.
yes they do, Aoe takes at least a few secs to set up, cast chaos storm cast illuisions, shatter (with ru in time).
We have pretty pathetic aoe compared to warriors, thiefs, elementalist, engineers, guardains…
Dont be in denial.
Also you must be on a really low pop server to always get gold, Heavy aoe will kills stuff before you can shatter an the 25stack limit on conditions will cap your possible dps.Like I said I dont really think its a Mesmer issue though, its the problem wiht the really bad contribution system.
Farshiverpeaks.. yeps low pop server lol… anyway guess you must be doing something wrong then… chaos storm, switch GS, iberzerker, mirror blade (with extra bounce), wave, mind stab.. casting all those takes very little time.. if stuff is still alive, shatter… rinse and repeat…. gold contribution guaranteed, even with 50 people around.

While pistol does a lot of damage.. it’s useless in events since it’s mostly single target, so it’s only useful against boss mobs that are up for longer than 0.5 seconds. For trash event mobs, GS/staff is imho the best combo to get the most AOE’s.
While I prefer DAoC’s RvR system (it’s much much better than the current WvW, but it wasn’t like that from day 0 either.. so let’s give ANet some slack.. it’s a great start).. but I see one issue if they added the names in the combat log and killspam.. the issue being you can send whispers to people on other servers.. so soon enough you’ll get the usual childish trash talk and e-chat fighting.
Hence if they ever add names, they should disable whispers to other servers in the WvW zones.
Allow guilds that claimed a keep to temporary lock down the supply depot inside until it reaches a certain threshold. All too often, supplies get instantly used up because people prefer building their own siege instantly versus running towards a supply depot (no matter if it’s to the detrimental effect of the server… ie self benefit vs group benefit). Especially since upgrading keeps takes a certain amount of supply in the keep before it can be scheduled.
Or allow a guild to buy the upgrade even if there’s not 100 in the supply.. which will then lock the depot until the upgrade can be started.. so as long as the depot doesn’t reach 100, nobody can take out of it and once the 100 is reached, the upgrade will remove 100 and start the upgrade.
Solution is quite easy… the 2 other servers paired up to Vizunah, just have to call it a truce and attack just Vizunah… that’s how it worked in DAoC… once people build up some hate towards a certain server, they will pick players from that server to kill first if they get the choice.
Only problem atm is that in GW2 it’s not that easy to see from what server a player is… from a distance you don’t see the name.. and from the skin you can’t tell.. in DAoC the 3 realms had entirely different races/classes so you could easily tell from a distance.
For PvE dynamic events, GS/Staff is the best combo imho.. loads of quick AOEs to get that gold contribution (we all know that DE is all about spamming as much AOE as quickly as possible).
Chaos Storm, switch to GS, phantasm beserker, Mirror Blade, Mind Stab, Illusionary Wave (all do AOE dmg).. Mind Wrack, back to Staff.. rinse and repeat.
As for WvW.. Phantasm Beserker is too good to give up.. long range AOE crowd control.. and as has been mentioned, spawn it up on a wall, do a Mirror Blade for another wall clone.. and using focus put up a Phantasm Warden on the wall too.. then shatter those… big AOE damage to people on walls. (combine it with Feedback.. and you get some nice confusion stacking too + confusion from the ethereal field combo)
And while sword’s blurred frenzy will also do AOE.. I wouldn’t want to be in melee range of a zerg… and in PvE the phantasm bezerker does his AOE thingy AND it’s AOE shatter fodder.
