Here’s 3 basic builds…
Condition:
Set 1 : Scepter / Warhorn or Dagger — try both
Set 2 : Staff or Scepter / Warhorn (if you picked dagger above try this)
Heal : Consume Conditions — will save your kitten from condi spam and cripples (signet of vampire for more damage)
Utility 1 : Blood is Power
Utility 2 : Epidemic (unless vs 1 enemy)
Utility 3 : Corrosive Poison Cloud or Plague Signet (if you took signet of vampirism so you have a condition cleanse)
Trait for corruption with this build if possible
If possible, take Summon Flesh Golem as an elite.. so good for solo.
Power :
Set 1 : Dagger (or Axe if you need range, but dagger is better overall) / Warhorn (or Focus for raw damage)
Set 2 : Staff
Heal : Signet of Vampirism or Consume Conditions (signet more useful here IMO)
Utility 1 : Well of Suffering
Utility 2 : Well of Corruption
Utility 3 : Signet of Spite (or Signet of the Locust if you didn’t take warhorn)
Trait for signets and wells with this build if possible
Minion Master :
Set 1 : Dagger / Warhorn
Set 2 : Staff
Heal : Summon Minion
U1 : Summon..
U2 : Summon..
U3 : Summon..
Elite : Summon..
(don’t take flesh worm)
Trait for minions
This build is easy mode don’t recommend it as there’s no challenge and teaches you horrible habits.

Warhorn has unique utility benefits
The unblock able AoE daze is incredibly helpful for halting rezzes/stomps, interrupting key skills like heals or channels, and in general throwing the enemy’s rotation off.
Warhorn 5 is really nice too yeah for the swiftness + AoE cripple, but also the AoE damage over time can help remove blinds from yourself or disable aegis on an enemy so you can hit harder with your key skills.
Dagger off-hand is also nice but not as useful — I don’t doubt you can do reasonably well with it, but you’ll be missing out
edit: not to mention the damage over-time helps build life-force

Hey guys, I’ve been away for almost a year I missed the entire HoT thing and I’m about to get back into it. I used to play guardian mostly because I liked knowing that I could hold my own against multiple people and that people had to think twice before deciding to expend resources trying to take me down.
I know there have been a number of updates / profession balances recently, I’d like to hear your opinions on the current “unkillable” class.
(edited by Domzz.1260)
We’re just starting up. Noticed there’s been a lot of demand for an active semi-serious PvP guild.
The req is r60+, though we all know rank doesn’t mean much — more than willing to hold try-outs for interested members under r60.
TS3 is required, and also looking for an active officer or two. Reply here or whisper / mail me in game.
Send me a whisper: Disco Grizzly
The Novian Empire is recruiting experienced PvPers for daily tPvP, weekly tournaments, and coordinated play.
Requirements:
Rank 60+ (or try-out)
TeamSpeak
Currently we’re seeking a couple members to join our core team, and are always recruiting solid PvPers for casual play.
We host weekly 2v2 tournaments with prizes, and are training to compete in externally hosted tournaments.
For any inquiries, reply here or whisper Disco Grizzly, Jin Nova, or Hybrid Venom.

It was asked by the staff at the AMA to discuss any builds that will be affected by the specialization changes.
I play hammer guardian almost exclusively in PvP — it is the most satisfying weapon set and build I’ve been able to find. Glacial heart really is at the core of this build. Firstly, because it provides a huge 500 damage bonus on crit — that allows for some really nice burst connects. Second of all, the AoE unblockable chill is invaluable for offensive guardians using hammer because the hammer by nature is a slow, clunky weapon with large traceable animations -- landing hits needs to be more rewarding. Enemies running away from you is not your only concern — there needs to be some sort of defense / duel power to help. The AoE unblockable chill solves both the running away and defense issues because the -66% recharge on skills UNBLOCKABLE is a tremendous asset to allow for some breathing room in between hammer skills / attacks. That short duration chill is exactly what is needed to make hammer viable.
The current replacement trait removes the A. damage — which is going to be a huge cripple to guardian hammer builds in PvP, and also B. the chill — movement speed impairment on a traitline is really quite uninteresting to a hammer guardian in PvP because the hammer as a weapon set already contains so many movement impairment abilities on it from the immobilize, to banish, to the uncrossable ring of warding.
Please please please do not remove the aspects of glacial heart that made it such a great trait for hammer guardians.
Hammer will be stronger than ever? Removing 1k damage and CHILL from the hammer burst to replace it with… some weak low duration slow?
This change IMO is a huge nerf to hammer guardians. They asked the community for feedback as to whether or not they should remove Glacial Heart. We need to give them the feedback to keep it — otherwise hammer guardian damage output / burst will be merced
Your problem is most people dont care about Glacial heart, myself included.
Fascinating. Your problem is you need to speak for yourself and yourself alone

Can Medi Guardians counter Eles?
Yes.
How?
You need to change your build’s focus from Power (2/1/6/1/4 or 0/1/6/1/6) to Condi (6/2/6/0/0).
You will never have problems vs D/D eles again
Additionally, in PvP you will want to pair the hammer with a scepter + focus set. Since hammer is not a mobile weapon, the range + immobilize on the scepter will help you sustain your DPS and catch others out.
The focus is just your standard off-hand weapon in PvP currently — the 4 skill gives you easy access to blind and the 5 skill gives you a block which is useful in so many situations (can also add to your burst if the shield does not pop).
If you have any PvP questions feel free to whisper me in game: Disco Grizzly
Hey guys. I’ve played countless hours as a core support midpoint guardian in conquest pvp, and I feel extremely comfortable filling the support / healing role. I got to rank 80 in pvp and achieved the champion paragon title on almost purely AH guardian running cleric gear.
Of course pve is structured differently, but honestly I’m confident I am one of the best picks out there to fill this role.
If not, I can always run full zerk. All things aside, I’m looking into getting serious about dungeons, eventually doing speed runs through all paths each day.
Please add me and whisper me in game. I’m Disco Grizzly.
Hey, I’d like to join.
I main guardian and secondary ele.
I’m not online arm but my ign is Disco Grizzly
Hey you two, I may have what you’re looking for. I don’t think we will be putting you on our core team, but we have a fairly active PvP guild.
Other than that, I’m always willing to personally teach people who are willing to learn.
I’m a PvP rank 80 and main Guardian, though am well versed in most classes (except engineer, because I refuse to play that class for moral reasons…)
Add me in game: Disco Grizzly.
Hey guys, I’ve mained Guardian since launch and play guard for our tPvP team —
I think both are equally valuable and it really depends on what you are looking to accomplish.
The GS will give you more mobility and burst overall, meaning it’s better if you’re trying to fill a roaming role.
The hammer gives you way more control and even defense with the 3rd strike of the AA chain granting a protection field — I love to use hammer when I’m holding points with another teammate. Banish… immobilize.. and the ring of warding are so amazing. You can also surprise people with Judge’s Intervention —> Banish.. JI —> Ring of Warding.. or JI —> Hammer bash or whatever the 2 skill is called. Dish out some amazing surprise burst or crazy CC.
Also, banish can help you bash away downed enemies from their teammates!
It’s pretty cool I think people should open their mind a little more to the hammer it’s a lot more viable than most people seem to think!
That being said GS is also an amazing weapon, so really depends on your playstyle and what you’re trying to accomplish!
If you want to roam by yourself I would advise you go thief. If you want to roam in a group you can choose either necromancer or guardian.
Let me know any other questions you have I’ll be glad to address them
Let me know what you think!
Gloves and shoulders kinda ruin the look. That’s just my opinion though! If you like them, keep them.
Will take that into consideration!! Definitely feel you on the gloves!
Hi folks. I’m new to the GW2 fold. I started of as guardian up to lvl 19, but I wanted something else as an alt or just a change of pace. Necro sounds interesting. I have my necro up to 6 so I only have a beginners feel for it. Questions I have:
- Is my primary stat power? Or some I try some condition type stats?
- Best weapons for solo PvE leveling?
- Best weapons for WvW and PvP?
- Can i successfully go without pets? I don’t particularly like the way they look. Im not a SC zerg HAHA!
- I know this class is probably least liked as far as PvP/WvW, but what is the state of Necros for those? I hear necro is a selfish or self sufficient character, but I saw some healing and weakening abilities.
- Does the Necro roam well at least solo or with a group of 4?I’m new, so sorry if my questions seem noob.
-in PvE, it’s power mostly. In PvP, you can go either way.
-I would say Axe + Focus on one set, Dagger + Warhorn on the other. If you like staff you can use that in place of either one of those — it provides you more AoE damage and control.
-For WvW and PvP it varies. If you are condi, they usually get Scepter + Dagger on one set, Staff on the other. If you are power, it changes a lot but you will see a lot of Dagger Mainhand and Axe Mainhand.
-Yes you can DEFINITELY successfully go without pets — especially with the new incoming updates!
-Necro is AMAZING in BOTH PvP and WvW — they are PRICELESS in WvW and in PvP I just watched the Tournament of Legends nearly EVERY team had a necro on it.
-I think the necro doesn’t roam as well as other classes — it’s better in a team.. in my opinion.
The guardian class is all about timing.
Also, remember this: if you put pressure on them, you will take less damage.
My two cents, take care.
The guardian is one of the best 1v1 classes in game.
Meditation is the best way to go but there are other viable options as well.
I’m not going to expose my particular setup publicly yet, but if you’d like I can personally teach you everything you need to know.
Hit me up in game, I’m Disco Grizzly.
Only bunker?
I’m very curious!
Really guardian is great for organized team play if you know what your doing.
Solo play is less so. With how easy it is to kite a guardian you run into problems.
Really though all the guardian needs is for someone at Anet to do 3 things
1: Work on mace/shield/torch to make them more of a viable option
2: Work on a few of the traits (some are just laughable, some are meh and some you never want to use at all)
3: Consider giving the more offensive weapons (Sword/greatsword/scepter) some form of cripple (so that kiting is not as bad)Mace is amazing…
Actually vs other weapons it’s very meh.
This is especially true in PVE & WvW where standing still can cause you to die very fast.
This causes most people to not want to use it because it requires you and your allies to stand in a symbol for a long period to gain the most benefit from it.Simply cutting the duration of symbol of faith in half but doubling the effect per pulse would get rid of this problem without causing major problems in terms of balance.
The torch & shield also have their fair share of problems.
Dude, thats your problem. All you think about is bunker/support. Who said anything about using it for healing? Just because it has healing abilites doesnt tie its role to simple support. Mace is amazing as a dps meditation weapon. All 3 of its skills excel at doing above average dps. I posted a link to a thread for a build i created. Since posting it i have had nothing but positive feed back from it. In-game with whispers or letters, on youtube even through email. I make my builds through actual combat usage not crunching numbers. The build is great as it is now but the ascended version which I havent released is a vastly superior in terms of stats. Just because :you dont know what you are doing doesnt make it inferior because its not in any way.
Hey Ty,
Can I get a link to your build?
This is gonna make playing warrior a lot more strategic and skill-based — I think the biggest hit here is the adrenaline rework.
I don’t think it’s all too bad warriors know a hit was coming, I think this one was fairly reasonable in that it’s gonna force warriors to stop sleeping while playing.
I agree as well.
I’m particularly interested in the new Arcing strike skill for greatsword. During the stream, his fully channeled hundred blades did 6k damage on 2.6k toughness golems, while the arcing strike crit for 5.6k. If that skill hits anywhere near a fully channeled hundred blades, it’ll be a monster. Even so, I think axe might still be taken over greatsword for PvP.
REALLY? 5.6k? Wow.. that is gonna be good!
I think this is a good change anyway because in PvP how often do you really get a full 100b off? Takes just the perfect situation — but this way the warrior will have more burst options in the event that one thing fails.
Just made a post focusing on GS, basically I said I liked all the changes but I am concern that about the 5% 100B. The only way I feel it will be balanced is if the new arcing slice will make up for the lost damage.
+1.
100b is one of the things that makes playing warrior so enjoyable to me

I don’t think it’s all too bad warriors knew a hit was coming.
With this adrenaline change you’re gonna have to do a lot more positioning, making sure when you make an adrenaline burst skill that it WILL land — taking advantage of your adrenaline in every fight as best as you possibly can knowing that you got to dump it on the spot.
It makes thematic sense too — in the heat of the moment you gain adrenaline but when you pay attention somewhere else your adrenaline subsides
Not even a week.
an -hour-.
He’s formulating an opinion of the class based on an hour of playing.
The class isn’t OP at all. you just cannot deal with it as you would other classes.
Warrior is very frontal, and very powerful. Trapping a warrior or otherwise removing their line of sight to you brings them to their knees, on higher playing fields.
it has a low skill floor because at the beginning of the game, everyone is playing like “walk up to player, mash 1 HARD”. Warrior just happens to do that by name of its profession, so it shines on lower skill matches.
Once people get into conditions, strategy tailored to their classes, and stealths, blinds, turrets, “Walk up to player, mash 1 HARD” doesn’t have as much effect.
Duh, anything else obvious you’d like to throw up and serve on a platter?
That doesn’t change the fact that warrior is really strong and OP — in the right hands, even against conditions and higher ground, a warrior is strong — but that’s where the skill comes into play. Of course if you’re going to sit and faceroll you will get wrecked. Tons of access to Crowd Control, condition immunity, mobility to exploit LoS.
A mesmer or thief plays dirty by using stealth and mobility in combat — that doesn’t mean a warrior can’t play dirty either by putting on the pressure then resetting behind LoS with faster regen only to come back — has faster cooldowns and greater burst.
Just because I’ve been playing warrior for a couple weeks doesn’t change the fact I’ve been playing the game since pre-beta — as well as Guild Wars 1 for several years.
Go educate yourself, you’re not as good as you think you are.
Update on my guardian experience:
I’ve learned how to offensively bunk, if that makes sense — in solo Q but also sometimes in team just sitting on a point by yourself isn’t always the best option as a bunker guardian — you want to run down to wherever there is the most combat traffic and your specialty is literally flipping fights to your team advantage — I’ve very very rarely showed up in the middle of a fight as a bunker guard and had our team wipe (maybe only vs Anas Tarcis’ team.. ouch).
I just came out of a double bunk team comp and honestly running at perma 25 stacks of might, regen, protection, and nearly full uptime on stability is epic.
I have a newfound appreciation for the guardian class in pvp — but I still am SO far from finding a DPS guardian build that I like.
Even medi builds — they are outshone by warriors HARD. I can fight almost anyone if they are stupid enough to stand there and fight me without ever kiting, but that never ever happens. People run away, heal up, and wreck me because my cooldowns are so long — or even worse, 2 others show up and there is absolutely NO way a guardian can run away, only vs horrible players.
Sure, I can duel people who don’t run 1v1, but in an active tPvP match, DPS guardian is just lame unless fighting as a team fighter. Solo roaming not an effective option IMO — warrior just simply does it way better.
As for PvE — yeah Guardian is necessary like everywhere.. amazing amazing utility — but still I have yet to appreciate a guardian’s DPS in PvE. I’ve heard that they potentially deal more damage than warriors, but this has not even been close to the case in my experience.
Hey buddy, congratulations on picking a great class
I would say, keep in mind that you are strongest with friends — so try to bring along friends everywhere you go and make sure to cover their booties!
Also, try to pace yourself with your skills — your defensive skills you have to practice timing at just the right times!
I would also say start out playing with Greatsword because it kicks serious booty
So my take on the warrior after a week of playing it a lot…
Amazing class. I don’t feel the same rush or power as I do playing any other class. I put in so much effort on my guardian and sigh everytime I try to bring it back into PvP — constantly want to hop back on my warrior and kick some tail.
I haven’t felt so unstoppable on anything … I thought things like MM necro and PU mesmer were OP, but pretty much anything on warrior is even more OP.
It’s a great class and I really hope that they do not nerf it too hard because if they don’t, I will be rolling warrior main.
Why are you growing tired of Guardian?
I think the warrior has a more no-nonsense to-the-point play style, more so than others. You can pretty much enjoy being OP and laugh at others who struggle and put in 10x more effort to achieve less of a result. All in all the warrior doesn’t have much when it comes to saving allies aside from gimmicky traiting; warrior support is pretty much strictly offensive with some CCs here and there for peeling enemies off allies. The GS as far as I know is great in all these areas but takes more skill in PvP and WvW.
You played for one hour pugging and now are giving out expert advise, interesting
You know what, this is expert advice. You disagree with any part of what I said you’re welcome to dispute it, but I guarantee you you will be crushed trying to argue your point. If you don’t, then you can continue passively sitting there and dealing with it
This means we’ve got upcoming balance modifications for all the classes in the near future.
ahhahahah nice joke xD
Most of skills each profession has(even racial) sucks and not good as selected few which everyone uses. And there is balance coming? Yeah right, it didn’t happen in last 3 years, it wont happen now.
It already happened, and it’s going to continue happening, as they’ve already mentioned. Laugh at yourself, you can join the rest of us.
Hey all,
Not sure where to look myself but Anet mentioned they would be doing updates to professions 2 at a time starting with ranger + engineer so that they can be thorough in their coverage. This means we’ve got upcoming balance modifications for all the classes in the near future.
As far as I’m concerned I think both engineers and rangers seem pretty happy with their fixes — Anet seems to have nerfed things that are understandable and buffed things to make the players happy.
This being said, has anyone heard about potential changes to the other classes? Perhaps speculations?
I’m kind of in the point in time where I’m developing my characters but need to branch out soon to begin all these map completion, pvp title, commander tag, legendary stuff so it would be good to know which classes might be impacted.
For example, I would imagine that classes like Necro might be getting buffs that make them more support-oriented and viable in dungeons in the supporting sense (or perhaps cleave or something) — and classes like Warrior might get their mobility impaired.
Thanks!
Nah, you’re all really just crying — death shroud is pretty overpowered. I think it’s perfect where it is just needs some minor adjustments.
Endure pain is the only thing that’s about equivalent to the death shroud — and that only lasts 8 seconds with a long cooldown. Condition damage doesn’t tick in DS — you can literally sit out a condi spike in death shroud, it’s pretty BS — unlike any of the other things you’ve mentioned.
what is your play style? this is a question only you can decide.
ele is rewarding when you master it. The most fun class for me, when you know the combos and all the builds possible.
guardian is easier to play. it is still fun.
both ele and guard are always welcome in wvw. pvp wise I’ve only ever play my ele, it is very versatile. You can go bunker, healer, or dps. pve they both stands the same, in my opinion.
Guardian can also play bunker, healer, or dps. In fact, they bunker and heal simultaneously.
The only reasonable claim I see so far is that you can’t tell whether your teammate is in Death Shroud or dying — and this is very reasonable and easily fixed: all you need to do is turn that bar in your party window greenish whitish or whatever the life force bar is when death shroud is activated.
The rest is completely unnecessary. Being able to receive heals and boons, stomping and rezzing while in Death Shroud (which are still possible anyway) are as I mentioned excessively OP and thematically clashing.
Falling off Skyhammer while in Death Shroud and surviving is not even remotely the point, Bhawb and Drawrnor, it’s embarrassing you can’t see beyond a given example — shows that you’re just sitting there at your computers itching to troll others and pick apart small fragments of what they’re saying just because.
Falling off Skyhammer while in Death Shroud is an example to illustrate how ridiculously overpowered Death Shroud can be in that it can help you survive in scenarios where other classes would not — for example, some bosses will instagib any other class but burn through a Necro’s life force bar instead of the Necro’s actual HP. Not to mention, life force is generated fairly easily on a 10 second cooldown…
By the way, not sure what resource you’re tapping into but I survived the Skyhammer fall in Death Shroud 3 days ago.
(edited by Domzz.1260)
This is a really lame complaint and I wholeheartedly disagree with this.
Not only is death shroud already an incredible mechanic that increases the necromancer’s survivability to substantial levels especially considering the fact you ckittene it while disabled… but it’s also PERFECT thematically with the class — entering a different form at the brink of death… you would imagine someone in this state would not be able to interact too much with the environment.
You’re asking for a lame easy-access God mode.
I don’t think so.
This is a bug I didn’t want to bring up but Necro is the only class I’ve been able to be hit off of Skyhammer with and survive at the bottom because of Death Shroud… OP as hell.
Please take the time to sit down and put yourself into perspective before you hop on the forum to baselessly cry.
Hey Bel,
I just want to offer my Devil’s Advocate opinion.
Personally, I’ve 80’d an ele and spent quite a bit of time on it — PvPing, Dungeoning, Open World, WvW. To be honest after some time I found it pretty kitten boring, and really not all that difficult to maneuver. Don’t get me wrong the Ele has an answer to most situations and is extremely versatile and useful across the board — but it didn’t mesh well with me.
To be honest, I find guardian a more difficult and rewarding class than ele. Yeah, sure, early on the guardian is all hack and slash in Greatsword. But really, later on, playing Guardian is borderline artistic and it’s really a very difficult class — it’s a lot about perfect timing, positioning, keeping constant track of what’s going on in the field — not only dealing with enemies knowing what skills do what what to block, what to blind — but also allies — knowing when someone is going to go down when to cleanse their conditions when to give THEM aegis / protection / regen — .
Personally, I enjoy guardian far more than ele and actually find it more difficult so there are my two cents!
Why are you growing tired of Guardian?
I think the warrior has a more no-nonsense to-the-point play style, more so than others. You can pretty much enjoy being OP and laugh at others who struggle and put in 10x more effort to achieve less of a result. The GS as far as I know is great in all these areas but takes more skill in PvP and WvW.
OK So you guys suggest I run DPS Meditation guardian.
My problems with this is… don’t other classes and builds do the medi guard job better?? D/D ele… S/D thief… any kind of warrior?
I guess medi guard does have good access to CC and blinds and blocks…
Ah ok thanks guys
Hey All,
So I’ve picked up the Guardian in tPvP and have been playing it nearly nonstop with something like 40 matches played.
Here’s my experience and I want to know if this is a shared experience or if I’m just lacking in skill still and my eyes haven’t been opened yet to the potential of Guardian.
So my experience is this:
I’ve been experimenting with posting at a point (usually mid), roaming constantly to where the most action is to take advantage of AH and party boons / traits, and ideally a mix between the two — posting when there are enemies nearby and roaming when it’s quiet to help my team as much as possible.
Guardian is REALLY nice for healing your teammates, cleansing conditions, providing some boons here and there, and is especially good at securing stomps and resurrecting allies. But really, most of all, what I felt my role was on Guardian was to just stall the enemy team for a few moments. I’m a staller. In many ways it was very depressing, I was only ever able to kill a staff ele in a 1v1.. and many times my team would collapse even in 2v2s and 3v3s — likely due to my utter lack of DPS (even with providing 12 stacks of might as much as possible). So many times in Solo Queue I’m stalling 2 or 3 enemies at mid for as long as humanely possible only to see the other PUGs on my team doing hell knows what but not even attempting to cap other points.
All in all it felt like a desperate, helpless struggle to stay alive for as long as possible with no real control of battle outcomes and the highest dependency on teammates to carry me with my support of them. And what’s even more depressing is most of the time with all my efforts and support I come out at the lowest point count on my team because mostly I’m just healing allies and holding a point or two.
Is this Guardian-playing experience normal? Or am I just completely clueless?
Thanks!

Hey All,
So I set at just above 4k AP and am like rank 40 something in PvP —
Generally I play things like Necro (condi / power), Hybrid Mesmer, Bunker Guardian, D/P Thief… And I generally perform pretty well with some effort and focus -- some builds and professions harder than others but fun in their own ways.
I was getting pretty frustrated playing bunker guardian in tPvP solo queue because people did not seem to know how to work with me, and even when we do win in team or solo queue I seem to put in a LOT of effort and get not much score — win ratio is spotty maybe 6/10 matches are won.
So I decided to just try warrior even though I have my qualms with the class —
So I finish the tutorial and go straight into PvP — throw on an axe/shield and a hammer and slap on the first Googled build I could find without any practice whatsoever.
So I go into solo queue and literally match after match after match after match I’m scoring top player on both teams by a LARGE margin (at LEAST 50 pts). It takes little to no effort to get nearly perma swiftness, might, fury, stability, while having insane mobility damage and an OP regen from healing signet — I mean LORD it was a walk in the park and my win ratio was 100% over the games I played — and this is with NO experience or thoughts on build on warrior WHATSOEVER I seriously just made one, level 2, and marched into tPvP.
Is it just me, or is this class ridiculously OP? If it’s not, maybe I’m meant to play this class???
-D
Guys — I was doing Arah the other day and it honestly seemed like condition was the better choice especially vs. Lupicus. You have to spend most of your time watching his animations and dodging and condition damage ticks during that time…
Don’t you think in a team of all power players in dungeons, which is the meta, running condition necro can actually be pretty kitten good?
A good necro in PvE is called a warrior. IMO until something is done about 25 stack limit, cleave, not being able to help your team with buffs, and generally being the most selfish kitten class, a warrior will always be the better necro.
Shut up and get out.
In terms of roaming you’ll definitely have wayyy more sustain and survivability on mesmer and thief than you will on necro; especially if you’re riding solo. You also get superior mobility and lots of room to make plays on the other classes.
Necromancers are more tactically smart — they’re incredible on the direct open battle field but no good with tricks and cold wars.
