Ok here’s mine.
I’ve been using a straight out of pvp Spirit ranger build in wvw for roaming and flipping camps. I like it for its survivability and 1v1/2 potential.
Gear is by no means optimal, but it’s what I’m wearing.
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ranger/?6.5|5.1o.h15.0.0.0|c.11q.0.g.1h.0.0.0.0|1h.7p.1h.7p.1h.7p.1h.7p.1h.7p.1h.7p|311.0.211.0.311.0.211.0.311.0.1b.0|u187.a5.0.u45b.0|0.0|4i.4t.4u.4v.56|e
Here’s the rules.
1) East camp
2) Solo Ranger
3) Post your build
4) Prove it!
Not to say there isn’t an issue, but you can get these runes with dungeon tokens.
The swiftness is meh. For PVE just about anything would be better. Quickness would be incredible! lol
Hi,
I think ranks should stay. Before patch I fought my way to ~450 on the solo queue leaderboard, it was great. Now, I’m at 9% for bad luck or for actually being terrible, but the motivation is gone to pvp. Looking forward to a wolf finisher and increasing rank. Not sure how long I’d keep pvping without that.
I’ll be running as zerk as possible (trinkets and weapons at a minimum) with 20-30 points in nature magic for frost spirit, stone spirit and guard or signet of the wild. If I went through every fractal I’d use each weapon except mainhand axe, torch and dagger.
20-20-0-30-0 traits.
You should have exotic gear if you are higher than fractals level 10.
Bring a: Longbow, shortbow, greatsword, sword, warhorn and axe.
It’s very easy to not get kicked: when the other players are all meleeing in a stack, pull out greatsword and hack away.
Ranger traits look improved thanks. I’m really excited about enlargement, and the spirits moving trait going down to master is incredible. Since I see some skills being brought up can we work on (or acknowledge) “Guard’s” cast time?
Also Reppin hit the nail on the head with:
“F2 skills are currently very unreliable. Pressing F2 should immediately make the pet stop moving and execute the skill instead of sometimes walking a bit, doing nothing, and executing the skill maybe a few seconds later.”
That would be a perfect solution for AOE pet abilities, offensive or defensive.
Hi Jon, I really like the updates to the Nature Magic line for Rangers.
The icing on the cake would be an adjustment to the casting time of “guard” which is effected by nature’s voice. Currently, this shout has a 1s cast time, causing rangers to spend 1/15th or 1/I 2th of their time not dpsing and casting Guard for regen and swiftness. I think that would really polish off the nature magic line.
Thanks!
Thanks for stopping by in the ranger forum, here are my three most pressing bugs.
1. F2 skills take too long, and don’t work while the pet is moving without a target.
Reproduction: go to cof p1 with jungle stalker, try to give your team might before breaching the door. If your pet is moving or close to the wall it won’t fire.
F2’s should interrupt the pet and fire immediately, currently they don’t work until the pet finishes what it is doing.
2. Guard has a cast time.
Increasing the recharge by 1 sec and removing the 1 sec cast would get this skill in my bar.
3. Sic ’Em dissapears after making your pet attack or use an f2 skill.
Reproduction: target enemy, use sic ’em, click pet, use an f2 or pet attack.
Thank you!
Keep fighting the good fight rangers!
1. It really isn’t broken. Rangers currently have a meta speedrun build which provides significant and unique benefits. This is a good start.https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/external?l=http%3A%2F%2Fen.gw2skills.net%2Feditor%2F%3FfMAQJAzXjEVR2dVWVsWCg1j9CsvuAOjDZ0VoUA-jwxAYrATWAoPwJvioxWcLiGruGT5SEVDA-e
Ranged anything is looked down on in most situations. Fortunately, our melee weapons are awesome.
2. A speed run is a dungeon run where everyone knows what they are doing and skips trash mobs. They are less class specific than you’d think.
3. Condition builds are out of meta for pve. Full berserker gear is where it’s at. SB is still very good as a Mobile power weapon.
4. The problem with pets and dungeons is that the first time you run them your pets are screwed. The next time through you’ll know when to swap, when you can melee pet and when you need to ranged pet.
My personal opinion:
Ranger is solid in pve, strong in PvP, and IFK about wvw!
If you want to lose the pet you’re playing the wrong class.
Hi Rangers! I’m a main-a-holic and want to get my ranger a set of every exotic armor. I’m trying to come up with a unique rune set for each type of gear. I’m aware that I’ll never use most of these! Personally I pve, but wvw suggestions are great.
What do you think? Ruby orbs all around? If a ranger equips magi gear does everyone get kicked out of the map?
Please criticize!

I want staff and hammer so bad! When we do get new weapons, I really want some that have an optimal damage rotation like some warrior sets so we can stop auto attacking all the time.
Thank you, I wish I came across your thread in my searching.
Definitely a risk. I didn’t want to use anything with more robust functionality since I’m trying to play by the rules.
I guess I’ll cease and desist unless we hear otherwise. Thanks for the advise.
I would agree, however I’m unsure of the semantics if a doubleclick, which for example, puts one item in the mystic forge (with one keyboard press) would be an illegal action. I’m at the computer, one item is moved with one click, and the click appears at my mouse pointer which I am actively pointing. I’m hoping for some clarification.
Thanks for the bump I hope we hear definitively.
Hello GW2 and hopefully Gaile,
I have a very specific question regarding a doubleclick macro which I was hoping to have answered. I love GW2 more than this macro and would like to avoid any trouble. My question is this: I have downloaded a program (which very clumsily appears as doubleclick.exe!) which allows me to doubleclick once when i press f7 once. Does this fall within or without the jurisdiction of the one click one function rule?
Basically, is a single doubleclick a single action?
Thank you.
Hi, your build is fine. However, “DPS pets were gutted” is a rampant misconception. Get some cats or a lightning Drake in there, with protection from guard they will be fine. I think you can reserve “protect me” for special situations unless you really want to face tank enemies (in that case consider traited signet of stone.) If you want to kill things faster pull out a 1h sword, and don’t forget to use warhorn 5 in your healing spring for the blast. Have fun.
<— me! About 900 hours on Ranger.
Thanks for the podcasts!
I am pulling this out of my kitten but I thought 1h sword and jaguar was the highest single target sustained DPS. We don’t burst, but you can mow down enemies ad nauseum with sword autoattack and a cat.
Stomp once – get interrupted. Stomp again- win. Underwater there is a problem but on land I think it’s pretty fair. If the pet is healing, stomp, if the pet is attacking kill the player.
Totally agree in the howler sound
After finding your post I’m doubting starting on Howler. That sound is totally tacky. It should be more howly and way less frequent and regular.
Do either of you find the howler sound very tacky?
Howler howl. I just got my Kudzu and the birds are really well done. I was starting on Howler and found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae7cbqpyAz4
It must be a bug, looping the same 1 second clip ad nauseum. Gw2 is so artful, I can’t believe this is what a legendary is supposed to sound like. Taking the fern hound howl and playing it in the distance every 10-15 seconds randomly would be much better.
I love my Kudzu. I would do anything for the bow, footfalls and birdsong to change with the seasons, but I can wait until meteorlogicus gets an update : )
I have nothing to add except that I am grinning from ear to ear reading this thread. Thanks Robert.
I have had a perfect day of lick wounds… Anyone else?
Set f1 to mouse scroll wheel click. Keep that pet passive, and you’ll be sending it in without a second thought after 5 minutes. No more bad aggro (except for f2 buff skills)
Thanks for this, I’ve been running around cof with sword warhorn, sword dagger and double jaguars tearing stuff up.
Since we’re talking about a golem, pets don’t really miss in pve, but i cant speak for pvp.
While it’s good to question things, did you see his numbers without pets? (Especially SB!)
Yes, Ursan, I did and my immediate thought was that there are MANY impediments to achieving laboratory results in the real world. In this case, I chose one, movement, to point out that his results don’t mean a lot. It really wouldn’t matter if you could use a SB to one-shot a stationary dummy if it could NEVER be replicated outside that singular narrow parameter.
My only advice is to check out 1h sword and also warhorn.
I’m at level 42 fractals. Piercing arrows. 20 or 30 points in beastmastery. Trait that improves endurance regen.
Signet of the hunt never leaves my bar. Don’t melee anything except Jade shards.
You’ll figure out where melee pets will melt, use spiders instead. Don’t listen to the hate.
The one thing that has made my pet control leagues better is putting pet attack (f1) as a scroll wheel click. Never take your pet of passive unless you’re farming orr.
Enjoy
You guys are really angry. I’m a mostly casual player, but a legendary has been a long term goal since the beginning. After I spend 500 hours on it, I’m not going to complain about a few extra stat points.
I’ve played each dungeon (not much FotM), and a fair bit of WVW, and no one has ever checked if I’m wearing blue, green, gold or exotic armor. In fact, with item transmutations you have no idea what anyone is using, especially since you can copy paste item codes to chat.
I trust ANet to incorporate these changes without major disruptions to WvW, and hell, make a “no-legendary” guild if you hate it that much in PvE. It will be months before there are enough legendaries around to make an impact anyway.
