The job is relatively simple if you have a group of people who know what they’re doing. I just spent the last 30 minutes trying to explain this to a bunch of newbies and then I left the group. With a bunch of four random people you’re gonna have a bad time.

Because you like the game, lol. I play solo most of the time, a lone wolf as you called it, and I’ve been playing it since the beginning. Pretty much everything in the game is soloable, except for Dungeons and some Champion mobs. Sometimes I’d tag along with a group of people and then I’d just go my own way. Nobody’s forcing you to play with other players if you don’t want to.

Stealth Compromise

I wholeheartedly agree with DreamOfACure. I play PvP with a Thief and I have no problem catching enemy Thieves seven to eight times out of ten. Sure, some get away, but it’s not impossible.

Stealth is not going away. The whole point of Stealth is not being able to see the Thief and it works just fine. I mean, I hate it too when a Mesmer makes a fool out of me with an illusion but I’m not crying “Make Mesmer illusions more illusion-looking-like so I know which one to hit!”

"Endgame" Re-re-visited..?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drakkonis.2768

Drakkonis.2768

Honestly, the growing trend is that players complain. Period. I don’t think there’s middle ground here.

I’ve hit lvl 80 long ago and there’s always something to do. Crafting new exotics, raiding dungeons, killing monsters, teaming up for PvP or WvW, doing JP’s, making money then spending it, following other players around until they notice you and WP away… So, yeah, I’m end-gaming for a while now.

I like the semi-sandbox style of the game. Nobody’s forcing you to do anything. I can do as I please. I mean, I don’t even have a piece of those Ascended items. So what? Veteran Trolls die just as easily without them.

I personally do not want new content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drakkonis.2768

Drakkonis.2768

I welcome new content! Without new content I’d have the same game all over again, I’d get bored and leave the game. Then I’d have to go through the arduous task of finding a different game to fill my spare time with. Bugs will be fixed, give it time. I mean, if A-Net were fixing bugs the whole time, people would be like “I want new stuff! This boring!”

Everyone’s an armchair critic these days, especially on game forums. If you don’t like the game, you don’t have to play it. If you think you can do better, you’re free to start your own programming firm and create an entirely new game and treat your gamers the way you think they deserve!

Besides, the title DOES reflect OP’s personal opinion. It’s not like a bunch of you gathered and, after a thorough discussion, decided to open a forum topic. And, yeah, sometimes I’m an ArenaNet apologist, ‘cos I feel for them and my life doesn’t revolve around a video game. The minute I stop having fun with this game, I’ll stop playing it.

Oh, and they are so going to close this topic, what with all the negativity and stuff.

Are we not allowed to earn gold?

Drakkonis.2768

Well, you can earn a reasonable amount of money from the majority of endgame activities. But if you can earn 5g in one hour, then you’ll be ruining the economy of the game.

Why doesn’t my country print some more money so we can all be rich? Yeah, with pieces of paper that hold no real meaning because everyone has them. I used to sell Elder Wood Logs back when it was profitable. Then everybody started to farm Orr and the profit dropped. Just like in real life, there’s no easy money in GW2.

Enemies running away?

in Guardian

Posted by: Drakkonis.2768

Drakkonis.2768

I play a Guardian and there is this thing where, after I whack the enemy down to around 20% of health, they start going the opposite direction. And it’s not that tethering thing, where if you pull them far enough they’ll return and reset. They just go the opposite direction and then return at me.

Naturally, this means they are constantly leaving my range. Mostly, I use a greatsword and this doesn’t happen with multiple opponents, maybe because I finish them off faster than I would a single opponent. This doesn’t happen always, but it does from time to time.

I haven’t had similar experiences with other professions I played, so I’m curious. Has anyone else noticed this?

The Elementalist is FUNDAMENTALLY FLAWED

in Elementalist

Posted by: Drakkonis.2768

Drakkonis.2768

Wow, this just reinforced my opinion that, apart form the News and Announcement section, a great majority of this forum is used mainly for complaining. I’m not trying to be rude, this is just annoying to watch because I sometimes come to this forum to find constructive content on the game, of which there seems to be very little.

I play an Elementalist and, while it differs from other classes in playstyle, it is still fun to play. I don’t play a Warrior, for example, because I don’t like the charge-and-smash type of playing a Warrior offers, but you don’t see me complaining about it. I must say that a Warrior is not all about that lest you accuse me of simplifying things, but I never found them that interesting to begin with. ANet is not going to introduce a fundamental (and, by the way, this is a proper use of the word) change just because a handful of players want to play a certain profession in a different way. Some people want to see sniper rifles on Thieves, some want to see Necromancer’s minions nerfed because it makes PvE too easy, some want mana bars, etc. Choose which profession suits you best and have fun with it. To say that Elementalist is “fundamentally flawed” is plain ridiculous.

True enough, there are bugs and glitches but, then again, every game has them and it’s impossible to take every single variable into account and create a perfect game. Patches will come and go and yet, it seems to me, that players kittening about it will always remain.

Oh, and yeah… CapsLock? Really? Have they taught you nothing in Online Behavior 101?

Feedback on Lost Shores

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drakkonis.2768

Drakkonis.2768

This seems like a good place to share our thoughts and emotions on the event. So, yeah, I’m gonna rant a little.

I’m not normally a person who does this, but this event failed miserably. I mean, on a scale from 1 to 10 this went up all the way to 11 and I expected as much. Truth be told, I didn’t have high hopes about the event in the first place. The thought of ramming millions of people in Lion’s Arch made my skin crawl. Looking all blank space with a toon appearing here and there. In itself, this wouldn’t be a problem if I hadn’t foolishly left my charr in Lion’s Arch before the event started. This, I admit, is a failure on my part.

I logged in once, a miracle by itself, and saw one of those kraken/korda/whatever creatures after five minutes of staring into open space and then my connection broke. Small surprise there. Then I thought to myself, okay, I’ll just go to Mount Maelstrom, farm some Vanilla Beans, kill some trolls, maybe go up that hill with a lot of artichoke while cursing those swamp lizards for chasing me. I’ll go to Lost Shores some other day.

But no… As soon as I logged into Lion’s Arch I got thrown right to character selection screen like a pair of dirty socks. So, now I can’t play at all.

Mind you, ANet, I’m not mad, but I feel like you haven’t thought this through enough. I’m a big boy, I’ll live without playing GW2 for a couple of hours. Hell, I probably even should get a break since I have a deadline on Monday and a kittenload of work to do. The only thing I am pissed about is that now I’ll have to watch topic after topic of people whining about how hard ANet failed.

Anyone else really not bothered by the nerfs?

in Thief

Posted by: Drakkonis.2768

Drakkonis.2768

I went well. I expected a bigger update, something like 1,5 GB or so with the way they announced it, but overall, I have nothing to complain about. Folks talk about the Ascended tier and gear grind, blah, blah… I don’t even have a full Exotic set yet and I only play with one character since the release and, by the way, I have no profession related problems whatsoever. Who cares?

I like the new Shadow Trap, although I don’t play PvP a lot and, conclusively, the Cloak and Dagger damage nerf doesn’t matter that much to me.

I mean, as long as you have fun, everything’s good, right? Lately, it seems as if this Thief thread has become a colossal whine across the forum. BS nerf, wtf? No longer playing Thief! That’s it, ANet ruined it for me! etc, etc… It’s like they’re supposed to cater to each and every one’s need.

To summarize, I think the patch went well! Patches, updates and kittens are what keeps the game alive and running.

Post Your Build Thread

in Thief

Posted by: Drakkonis.2768

Drakkonis.2768

I noticed there are no ranged thieves, so here’s my build:

Most of the time I use Dual Mystic Pistols and occasionally I switch to Shortbow.

Critical Strikes 30 / Acrobatics 25 / Trickery 15

Mostly I just dodge around and kite stronger mobs while sticking them with lead. Hence the Acrobatics trait line. Acrobatics gives me Expeditious Dodger (2 secs of swiftness on dodge), Power of Inertia (might on dodge), and Feline Grace (dodging returns some of the endurance). This, coupled with Signet of Shadows, makes you nigh uncatchable.

Then I trained in Trickery to get Preparedness (+3 on max Init). I can return some of the Initiative through Kleptomaniac and Opportunist. Mostly I keep Thrill of the Crime up for Fury, Might and Swiftness on Steal, but occasionally I switch for Uncatchable or Flanking Strikes, depending on the situation.

I went for Critical Strikes instead of Deadly Arts because I don’t like poisons. Most of the time, I keep Pistol Mastery active. Ankle Shots also makes it easier to kite, but sometimes I switch to Critical Haste which really shines with a high critical hit chance. If you time it right, you can even squeeze in three Unloads. For the last one I almost exclusively use Executioner.

All of my gear veers toward Berserker’s (Power, Precision and Critical Damage) so I don’t have a lot of innate survivability. For that I use Signet of Malice coupled with Assassin’s Reward from Acrobatics tree. Having a lot of Initiative helps, so that’s why I trained in Trickery.

Runewise, I use five Superior Runes of the Scholar and a Ruby Orb for the moment. Those Eagle runes are just too expensive. I loaded my pistols with a Superior Rune of Bloodlust and a Superior Rune of Perception. With that, I can easily end up with a 100% chance for a critical hit. Usually, I use a Shortbow in Dungeons as a support, so I loaded it with a Superior Rune of Nullification.

As for the playstyle, I never stay in one place (unless I’m killing low-level mobs). Usually, I open with a Body Shot, follow up with a couple of Unloads, Steal to get the Initiative back, and so on. Dungeons are pretty smooth given that you know what you’re facing. If you’re careful, you can even keep aggro on a boss and kite him around, even more so if you switch to a shortbow. Then you can use Infiltrator’s Arrow to move around. Otherwise, it’s extremely important to time your dodges. Withdraw sometimes helps with kiting (unless you fall off the edge), but I found Roll for Initiative a bit underwhelming as it has a 60 sec cooldown, although it does give you initiative back. Hidden Pistol as a charr skill is also useful for kiting as it has a 15 sec cooldown.

As for the Utility Skills… I always keep Signet of Shadows active and use Thieves Guild for the Elite Skill. On rare occasions, I’ll switch to Basilisk Venom, but never to Dagger Storm. It just doesn’t cut it for me as I make a point of not getting in the fray. As for the other skills, it usually depends on the situation. If I’m exploring, then I’ll use signets most of the time. In dungeons, I usually pack Shadow Refuge for those cases when someone goes down. Wall of Smoke is also good for dungeons and I use Ice Drake and Devourer Venom for some of the bosses. Caltrops is also a superb skill if you want to kite mobs. I also use Ambush for those medium level threats, and paired with Thieves Guild you can take pretty much anything lower than Champion mobs down.

So, that’s that. I think I covered pretty much everything on my Thief.

Punished for being to skilled/fast/experienced

Drakkonis.2768

Okay, I’m gonna try and make you understand.

1. The system of diminishing returns is put in place to protect the economy from botters and exploiters. Sure enough, you wouldn’t exploit anything, but there are countless those who would and they would ruin the game for you and for the rest of us. It’s the same thing with legendary weapons. Sure, they’re a pain to craft and some of the players will never get to own a legendary weapon, but if anyone could have one, then they wouldn’t be legendary. So if anyone could get a full dungeon set in a day, what would be the point? And then what? You get all dungeon sets in two weeks and complain how there’s no content for end-game.

2. Here I’m just gonna quote: De gustibus non est disputandum. Personally, I dislike CoF armor set.

3. As for the bugs… Have you ever encountered a bug-free game? It’s impossible to predict every single line of code in the game so huge as GW2. Give it time and things will get better.

For one, I’d like to say I’m glad ANet did away with dedicated classes. I went through Ascalonian Catacombs with a Thief, two Elementalists, a Ranger, and myself being a Thief as well and we had no problems. Just synchronize you major traits and equipment and talk some strategy if you can and that’s it. So, you don’t need a “tank” for a dungeon. Heck, you don’t even need someone to absorb damage.
