At its current form Scourge is OP, that is a fact, there is no denying it.
I deny it. You are wrong. Is that reportable?
I would love to try this, sounds like a fun experiment.
Oh, boy. I knew it was coming.
So, can we just get a rework on this trait then?
I just…I don’t understand why there aren’t personal banks there for upgrading. Like, boy is it inconvenient and a drag.
Is it possible to unlock this feature eventually in guild halls? Because that’s the one thing keeping me from afking in my guild’s hall as opposed to Lion’s Arch.
Uh-huh

HEY. HEY. WE GOT LESBIANS.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Guild Wars 2 living story abridged edition.
(Also, I like Braham and Rox more. Just my $0.02 on the matter. Taimi is awesome, too. Kas and Jory seem really shoehorned.)
Well, the Norn ARE pretty one-dimensional.
The same could be said of every race if we were to analyze their basic traits and general personalities.
Updated my guardian with the almighty eyepatch. Also, other characters. Semi-realism ftw.
What armor is that in the 2nd pic?! It looks great!!
Thanks!
Head: Commando’s Bandanna (personal story reward)
Shoulders: Wolf Shoulderpad (tier 3 norn)
Chest: Commando’s Jacket (personal story reward)
Hands: Wolf Bracers (tier 3 norn)
Legs: Vigil Leggings (vigil)
Feet: Wolf Boots (tier 3 norn)
A few weeks ago I was running AC and a guy there with 2,5K AP and a Twilight was playing as bad as he could, so it’s not even a symbol of dedication anymore, it’s just a stupid thing people get for the “look at me”.
While this can be true in some cases, (I’ve seen plenty of players with legendaries playing terribly) I ultimately believe that they are still symbols of dedication and hard work in-game. I mean, who knows how many people have credit card legendaries. Doesn’t really matter to me, honestly. The only opinion that matters is your own. The personal gratification you get out of swinging your new legendary around far outweighs imaginary prestige points.
Legendary hate errwhere.
I’m at about 2,100 hours and my guardian has Juggernaut and is almost finished with crafting Sunrise. I’m not looking forward to map completion again…I eventually want my ranger to have Howler.
Having content release every 2 weeks even with game breaking bugs are worth the experience due to the fact you fix them fairly quickly.
I disagree. I’d rather have highly polished content released less often than more buggy content released more often.
It’s impossible for any QA team to catch all bugs within a short time window.
Then perhaps the release schedule is too frantic? It saddens me that “when it’s ready” became “when it’s due”.
Every 2 weeks its always exciting to see what is new in Guild Wars 2, as opposed to other games where there is a public test realm and there’s nothing exciting at all because you know whats happening.
That’s your opinion, and you’re entitled to it. But there are those of us who disagree with your opinion. And we’re not wrong to do so.
I’ve spent over $1000 in gem purchases alone, so keep up the good work.
Congratulations?

Agreed on all fronts.
Dear raging gamer,
While I understand your frustration towards the inconveniences that were experienced (alas, my guild was also disrupted by this occurrence) last night after the wvw reset, I feel as though your post was made more out of anger and has no constructive criticism to offer up for proper discussion. Also, your back handed comments are really quite off target and do not represent actual reality, but the twisted one you apparently experience. I hope you get better.
I didn’t see much rage. He has a valid point.
Guys keep it up! You do good work! Don’t get discouraged, and don’t take the unhelpful critiques to heart.
I’m sorry? “Unhelpful critiques?” lol
Just because you don’t share the opinion of these critiques doesn’t mean they’re unhelpful.
what we have feels more like the music is still rising.
Which is NOT what we need after a year of waiting for the climax.
I more or less agree with the op.
ArenaNet basically took an entire year of an incredibly slow and dragged out story to say, “hey, guys, by the way, there’s another dragon.”
GASP NO.
Thousands of people saw this coming, and frankly, there wasn’t much of a payoff for me either upon finishing the Scarlet fight. The ending cutscene was cool, but…wow, that was a long year without much permanent content just to say there’s another dragon.
What would I want as a payoff?
Finish the fight with Scarlet > Dragon awakens violently > Dragon decides to do something similar to Kralkatorrik’s flight >>> Potential for awesome things
But, nope. We got a cutscene. Don’t just show the dragon that people have known about for quite some time. Make it do something right then. Make the consequences of allowing Scarlet’s drill to keep drilling apparent in the moment. Go out with a REAL cliffhanger. Remember the end of the second Hobbit film? Smaug flying toward Laketown?

The entire time I was playing the living story, I was thinking to myself, “man, I wish they’d just make an expansion pack already.”
For god sakes in 1.5 years there has HARDLY been any xpac worth content.
This
To be perfectly honest, I’d give it a 5/10.
Not too good, not too bad. I probably wouldn’t recommend GW2 to a friend purely for the latest living story hype event.
Pros
- Some interesting characters
- A few enjoyable boss fights / events / bosses in instances
- Getting “content” for free
Cons
- Oddly generic writing
- Lame villain
- The story moved at a snail’s pace
- Some events were definitely not worth the two-week waiting span
- The entire living story culminated with a very predictable ending / A dragon? WHO KNEW? Thanks for taking a year to surprise us with that.
- Zerg zerg zerg zerg
Does ArenaNet still think the living story content is equal to that of a true expansion pack? Because I remember GW: Factions being much more sprawling and fresh when it came to its content…
(edited by Drakonis.4579)
Agreed. Everything feels way too whimsical and nonchalant compared to GW1. And it sucks because I was expecting more of the same dark themed stuff in GW2.
There’s no threat. The Mursaat were actually more intimidating than Zhaitan. Also, having next to zero communication with Zhaitan throughout the entire personal story sucked. There was no angsty build up to taking down the baddie.
Ascalon from GW1 out-glooms Orr from GW2 easily.
Agreed with OP.
Make it happen. PLEASE.
this game, the game I have been playing, it doesn’t deserve the title of ‘Guild Wars’.
Quoted because it sums up my feelings perfectly. Doesn’t even feel like Guild Wars anymore. Not trying to be a party pooper, it’s just depressing.
I guess you could put it that way. I’m still of the opinion that the writers just dropped the ball on her character though. lol
Wow, way to suppress disapproval. lol
Haven’t really used any of the norn elites since launch, which is sad because they were one of the main things I was looking forward to in this game. Turning into a bear in GW1 was amazing. In GW2? Not so much. CD too long, doesn’t last long enough, doesn’t really help you out either. I can just stick to Renewed Focus and not even bat an eye at the norn elites…
Sucks because the norn are supposed to constantly be shapeshifting in battle. Needs a change imo.
A year later and lordkrall is still defending the living story.
lol
Can we please get an expansion? I am literally bored to tears with the living story model. Can we go back to the ways of Guild Wars 1, please? Thanks.
(Also, I consider nothing released thus far living story-wise to be on par with the likes of a full blown expansion. It’s all very boring, predictable, and far too whimsical. Doesn’t feel like the original Guild Wars at all. And I understand that it’s not the original Guild Wars, but can we get a lich or something? Maybe a main antagonist that’s more diabolical than a crazy plant or a dragon that dies when you shoot fireworks at it? Literally anything would be better.)

“Many MMO players need to either grow up or disconnect their credit cards from the game.”
But if you stop supporting the game the white-knights jump on you and tell you to shut up and enjoy the game that you’re not supporting. You can’t have it both ways.
you mean those coffers I opened over 900 times and still got nothing?
I suppose.
I opened about 25 and got a ticket.
I simply pointed out that it is very possible to get it without paying a single gem, which people seems to overlook.
It’s definitely “very possible,” but then again, so is creating a theme park filled with dinosaurs from DNA cloning. Possible? Sure. Likely? Nope.
read above and in context….
I get what you want… you would rather have the carrots become P2W .. so then what.. sit on forums complaining of lack of content, lack of challenge, lack of things to do?
If a 0.5% chance of obtaining a purely cosmetic weapon skin is qualified as “content,” “challenge,” or “something to do”….lol
Guildie bought about 35-40 rich coffers last night after I warned him not to, he received no ticket and was pretty bummed out.
“Rich Dragon Coffer
Crack open the new Rich Dragon Coffer, a deluxe version of the Dragon Coffer chest which offers a greater chance to receive rare items like holographic minis and the Dragon’s Jade weapon skins!”
Well, I guess a 0.10% chance is technically “greater” than a 0.05% chance, right? :P
I love how ArenaNet is just ignoring this thread and not posting in it. Oh, but they’ll merge it. lol
(edited by Drakonis.4579)
I’m a diehard GW1 fan, and I love me some ArenaNet. I’m not too fond of any of the skins from this event…but jeez. I’m starting to lose faith in ArenaNet’s customer relations.
I understand that they’re a company and this game is being “updated” frequently with “content,” but wow…Can the people get a few event skins that aren’t locked away in casino boxes? What happened to the SAB model? Wintersday, even? You guys are too money hungry right now for my taste, and I’m a conservative capitalist – that says a lot.
Also, the white-knights shouldn’t get so upset over something that in no way harms their experience. You want RNG weapons? Cool, what if ArenaNet still put them in those “roll-the-dice-for-a-0.05%-chance-at-a-skin” boxes, and everyone else could just buy the skins for a flat rate off of the gem store? What a perfect solution, no? Ah, but it isn’t, right? Because that means less prestige for your ego and less money to a company that seems to be twiddling its thumbs in the content development department.
shrug I’m just here to watch, really. I still love Guild Wars 2. :P
(edited by Drakonis.4579)
I’ve boycotted all RNG boxes after the Halloween fiasco. I haven’t bought / spent gold on anything RNG since. Maybe someday they’ll get the hint that there are some of us that don’t like gambling our gold/money away like mindless monkeys.
Me ? Where did I say anyone was a fanboy? I merely said that the particular person perhaps wants us to spread a word of warning about this oh, quite vocal fanboy population. It was your own idea to think I try to suggest you are one of them. Perhaps for a reason, hmm ? (:
Claiming that you only rephrased another person’s point (that I do not see related to your post at all to begin with) and had no intent behind that is a really disingenuous tactic and it won’t work on me.
See, there you define people who feel they were ripped off by Anet as irresponsible maniacs and whatnot. Now that I call you a fanboy it’s a logical flaw.
If someone spends a quite large sum (enough to buy the groceries of 2-3 days) on virtual gambling in the expectation to receive a rare drop I do think they are irresponsible with their money. Though I want to emphasize I did not intend to address OP or anyone specifically.
But the main issue here is that it’s hypocritical to participate multiple times in said gambling and complain only afterwards, instead of boycotting it, i.e. voting with your wallet, or open a critical thread in general protest. It seems most people complaining about this are, after unlucky drops, asking for better chances at the RNG instead of a wholly new system.
So, you have chosen some uneasy allies Master of Timespace.
In contrast, disagreeing with a critique of one certain facet of the game does not make one a fanboy at all. No “irony” here.
I’m a person/statistic that stopped buying ArenaNet RNG boxes after the Halloween items in the black lion chests. Haven’t bought anything RNG related since. I want a wholly new system. Does this change anything? Nooooope.
“If you people wanna keep spending ya real cash on gambling then complain when it screws you over.. sorry but blame lies on you not ANET or NCSoft.”
Here is a new flash little new-age pal, thievery is a crime, the thief goes to jail not the victim. That is because it is morally wrong to steal. I have watched this obtuse vilification of victims in the USA for some time now. You people that go this argument that the victim is the one to blame all need to pull your heads out of a tight dark place and understand that the thief is not the purchaser. The thief is the company that makes ambiguous comments bordering on falsehood in order to dupe people of all ages into wasting their money.
QFT
I said nothing about the events staying in the game. I said the storyline should always be told in the game and not on websites. The most recent example would be the Canach story that was printed on this website. That should have been in-game and not on a website. I shouldn’t have to go outside the game to catch up on missing plotholes and current events.
Most of the information could however be found in-game, even if it required some actual exploring and listening.
The parts that are NOT found in game would however been quite hard to put into the game in a logical way and said information is also not really needed to actually understand the story-line but rather used to flesh out the characters a bit extra for people that care.
I see dozens of people railing on this game for it’s lack of storytelling yet I only see you defending it. I am beginning to think you are an Anet employee.
How can you be so dismissive of such a glaring problem as the lack of coherent, meaningful and comprehensive in-game storytelling?
Do you enjoy flipping over every single rock in hopes of finding a word or number that can be pinned to your wall and connected, by yellow yarn, to other randomly placed clues?
If that’s the same Krall from GW2Guru, he’s been doing this kind of thing since before launch lol. Some people will defend a company and its decisions to the death. I can’t understand why when the company in question is often doing things incorrectly.
I am in full support of your suggestion, though, OP. I would love something like that.
I would be willing to bet the OP and those with him are MMO locusts who go from game to game when they launch, beat all the new content really quickly then complain that there is “no endgame” or “no challenge” then move on to the next MMO.
You see, though, this is where your argument fails. I’m not a locust. I’ve only played one other MMO as much as I have GW2, and that MMO would be GW1.
I’m not playing this game because I liked the friggin’ boxart. I’m playing it because I’m a huge fan of the first game. I’m not going to just “locust on over to the next MMO” because this is the MMO I want to play, it’s just that I think a few things could be different. Get it?
Actually I am one who does like the game for what it is. I did not come in here to “bash” the game. I came in here to tell one individual that it was not fair for him to tell people to play the game the way he does, as he flashes his legendary in their face.
Except he’s not, the devs are. It just happens that he (and myself) already play the game the way the devs intended it to be played, and it turns out that when you do that you tend to be a lot happier with the game than when you expect it to work like every other MMO ever.
There is never a wrong way to play a game that is supposed to be a living world. Yes there are simple moral rules you must follow, but the game is open to play like you want, or at least it was suppose to be. If I choose to mine copper from level 1 – 80, that is my right to do so, but with the way things happen with this game, mining copper would get nerfed so as not to be helpful in my quest to be the Copper King.
I am happy you happen to fit the mold the devs want. You are apparently one of the chosen ones when it comes to this game, as you have nailed it. (applause)
I will state this once again so you might understand it this time. Please read this part carefully, as I truly mean every word of it. I …… LIKE ….. THIS …… GAME!!!!!!!
I do not expect it to be like every other MMO, and is the reason I am here. And I am here trying to make sure it does not turn into every other MMO. Because sooner or later they will introduce more legendary skins, and maybe legendary armors, and the grind will be back on again. And if things are not learned now, on how players play this game in all ways and forms, we will run into the same thing again, and that is something I know we all want to avoid.
Very good post. You nailed exactly how I feel about this game. Keep it up.
@ the OP:
Yes. The elitism you speak of is ruining the game…for you.
The rest of us are socializing, trying new things, and actually enjoying what content they have. We are exploring, and doing world completion at a snail’s pace..and loving it!
I am sorry that the game does not cater to the ultra-hardcore dungeon crawlers/raiders. If it did, may of us (myself included) would be looking for something else.
So, in answer to your orignal post:
Yes, you ruined it for yourself.
I’m sorry, but I don’t log in to an MMO to socialize. That’s what the real life world outside is for. Sure, I have a guild full of people that I really enjoy playing with, but it’s a video game after all. If the content that’s there (or isn’t there, lol living story) isn’t triggering any sort of drive for me, I’m not going to play it.
Trying new things, you say? Like what? I’m sure I’ve done most everything with four lv80s and multiple alts. I’ve even got a legendary to show my dedication to this game. Don’t get me wrong, I love the game, but they’re treading so closely to that casual-fun-time line that I’m legitimately worried. I realize that this issue is a battle between two different preferences, but hey, not everyone is going to play the game like a snail and not everyone is going to play the game like a locust. I played through the content too quickly, you say? Says who? You and your arbitrary judgment? Should I be judging you for not playing fast enough, then? Who’s to say one style is wrong and the other right?
I’m not a locust, really. I’ve been waiting for this game ever since I read about it in that 2007 issue of PC Gamer. I’ll stick with GW2 till the bitter end. This doesn’t mean that I’m not going to critique it and its designers when I see something that isn’t appealing to me, though. I may not be the carebear demographic that ArenaNet is aiming for nowadays, but I’m still going to voice my opinion on the matter regardless of what the majority says.
TL;DR: Let me summarize by editing your original message for my own argument.
I am sorry that the game isn’t catering to both sides of the casual/hardcore spectrum. If it did, many of the hardcore players (myself included) would be much happier. Neither style is the correct/incorrect way of playing the game, but catering to just one side really sucks.
And no, I will not be looking for another game since this one doesn’t suit every single one of my preferences. I’m going to voice my opinion and hope that ArenaNet delivers something as difficult as the Domain of Anguish. It’ll be lovely – all those people complaining that it’s too hard.

I completely agree with the OP.
The Guild Wars 2 personal story – only personal until you meet Trahearne.
As someone that loathes anything and everything sylvari, you can imagine my utter disbelief when I found out that Trahearne was going to be your buddy for a large portion of the personal story.
There’s just something about (most of) the sylvari that really disgusts me. They’re always upbeat, they’re always trying to do the right thing, they’re obsessed with fulfilling some sort of personal prophecy that a tree gave them…they’re just way too goody-goody for me. And I’m a person that always tries to play the paragon role in video games. With the sylvari, though, it’s just too much to stomach.
That salad’s presence in my personal story completely marred my experience the first time through. I don’t even bother doing the personal story on alts unless it’s absolutely necessary for leveling. I’m totally turned off to the personal story as a whole now.
And if you come back with some kind of remark like, “you’re being unreasonable and blindly hating a race”, I have only this to say: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWdd6_ZxX8c
(edited by Drakonis.4579)
No, because it’ll be free come January/February ^^
Hindsight is 20/20, eh? lol
I am fully prepared to purchase every single Guild Wars 2 expansion that is made available. I bought all of them for the first game and plan on doing the same with this one. You guys can keep those temporary “expansions”, though. I don’t like those so far.
You are all crazy! It is one of the best visuals for the guardian. I like it
and anyone who doesn’t should re-roll. GTFO! :p
Nah, I’ve mained guardian since headstart and I want it only visible while in combat. It ruins screenshots and makes some shields look absolutely stupid because of the clipping.
Spear / Polearm
Even if it was meant for throwing, paragon style, I’d still use it. My guardian wants a stick with something sharp on the end of it!
For guardians, warriors, and rangers.
As soon as sales start to lag I’m sure they will consider offering it directly through the store. In the meantime, I’m going to buy 25 more keys.
Gross. You’re part of the reason why ArenaNet thinks it’s okay to keep throwing gambling boxes on the gem store.
It’s not a prestige item, it’s an event item.
RNG items aren’t prestige items, they’re RNG items. Getting a lucky dice roll doesn’t make it any more prestigious.
Why can’t we just enjoy the skins for what they are? If you like it, wear it! Don’t let the fact that it’s common take away from your enjoyment of it.
(edited by Drakonis.4579)
I’m quite disappointed with the ending to this living story chain, although I can’t say that this surprised me, honestly.
After I saw that we were getting some goofy looking gauntlets, I knew that was the only reward we’d be getting. We couldn’t get at least ONE free fused weapon ticket? Really? For this multi-month content drop we get gauntlets?
Take note: Yes, one-day-only events can be bad, but does that mean you completely get rid of the awards if you have the event lasting for more than one day? NOOOOOOOO. You give the player karka event level rewards only ONCE during the 12 day period. And then you put RNG stuff in the chests so people will keep doing it.
Better luck next time, guys. This living story gets a thumbs down from me. (The inclusion of Braham and Rox’s weapons in the gem store was nice, and the dungeon bosses were positively sick. But everything else? Not really digging it.) The amount of time that gaps each new installation of the living story takes entirely too long. It’s really ridiculous.
(edited by Drakonis.4579)
I stopped spending gems/cash/gold on RNG chests after the Halloween event, and I’m glad I did because those new skins are pretty terrible. (Still no love for hammers, I see.)
No one likes RNG chests, ArenaNet.
Wolf. Loyalty to the pack above all else.
