The Gates Assassin: Yeah, that’s what I figured. He used the cluster bomb to add to spike.
I also suspect that he used some sort of stun (poison?) or perhaps some root. I think I tried to use dodge as it’s my usual reflex against suddenly appearing rogues but I am not 100% sure so I didn’t mention it earlier. Nonetheless as I stated before I am not interested in exploring how or why it is okay for him to kill me that fast (not in this topic anyway). It is quite obvious I was outplayed, I can live with that (actually I expected to be outplayed).
What I don’t think is okay is that he can pull that off. (Although kudos to him for using all resources he had at his disposal. Provided he didn’t cheat ofc.)

It seems that the PvP community here is happy with the state of the game and hateful towards anybody suggesting otherwise. I don’t like how my attempt to point out that something in this game is not fun – as the term “game” should imply – and it turned out to be a rich soil for overzealous personal attacks and claims that I am a liar.

Sad, sad…

I have decided to give it another go. I will assume that what happened was a lag spike and not something intended by the design of the game.

redslion: Thank you for explanation. I’ll roll something more tanky (probably sword+shield + longbow PVT gear).

Cynz: Thank you too for the time you took to explain and answer my post. I have a low-level thief so I might try to get over my feelings against thieves and level it to 80 to learn the mechanics first-hand.
P.S.: Your atack order doesn’t match my combat log. It was in this order: Cluster bomb, Backstab and two times CnD. But then, maybe the game doesn’t record it in the right order for some reason.

Deimos Tel Arin: When lag spikes occur they are consistent and usually tied to increased internet usage such as friday afternoon/evening or others experience spikes too. Most of the time I have stable connection – sitting round 45-80 ms. Yesterday I was using WTFast program and it reported decrease from 80ms to 50ms and two spikes during the whole session (I played WvWvW before too but it was rather slow with border hopping so I decided to get the laurel from sPvP). I don’t experience character running in one place at all. There have been disconnects but they are quite rare. All in all I would say my connection to GW2 is quite healthy. Hence I find it rather unlikely that the spike occured at exactly that moment when I was being attacked. But whatever, stuff happens.

Locuz: Thank you for advice. I went for it since I played with the same build and gear (except weapons) before and I was doing fine – could kill most (except bunkers) and almost never died (even to thieves). I was using sword/shield + rifle and this time I went for mace/mace + rifle to see how it works.
What took me by surprise was that I have never seen such fast death. Except when I was playing my ele in zerker gear and got jumped by thief. Actually, this was exactly the same feeling (regarding the survivability).
I guess the only way how to get into the play is to start with tank then.

Deimos Tel Arin: Nice video but your health never perishes within a second. It goes down steadily. I did like your duel but that’s unfortunately not what I have experienced.

Muchacho: Yessir. Zerker amulet and no toughness / vitality. I think it amouned to 2.6k armor and 21k health (or so).

BlackBeard: Lag spike is possible. Actually thinking about it it might have been one. Although it was a very convenient one. My concern was exactly what you say, I would expect ttk to kill heavy armor user with high health pool to last longer then a second. That’s my sole concern and the point of the whole thread. If I can get killed so fast something is wrong.

Arganthium: lol yourself. The whole point of this thread is to point out that I did not. If it were 5 seconds I would have had time to pop my Endure Pain or roll. I might be rusty, but 5 seconds just watching the monitor with blank stare? GW2 required reaction time may be shorter than in other mmos but if you can kill somebody in one “global” (usually 1,5 sec) it is usually a sign of that something’s broken. So no, I wasn’t watching my screen for 5 seconds mesmerized by his nice graphics…

evilapprentice: We got to Skyhammer. He was alone on his team, I was alone on my team. I went to capture the southern node. As I saw he wasn’t capping either of the two others I expected him to come on me. He apeeared behind a corner with a shortbow. I decided not to switch to ranged as not to incure the switch cd and ran to him hoping to get to meelee. Right after he finished his shortbow animation, he appeared behind me and dealt the rest on the damage within a second or so. Definitely not 5-6 seconds as some have suggested.

Cynz: That’s quite possible and I think sad if you have a class that can be killed so fast. I see that as another problem (for thieves) and not like an argument why it’s okay to kill others in the same short amount of time. Combat log: Cluster bomb 5k, backstab 8k, Cloak and Dagger 2.5k Cloak and Dagger 2.5k. Dead. And that’s how the fight unfolded from what I have seen. I saw him shoot shortbow then he appeared next to me and I was dead within a second or so. Checked wiki. Backstab + 2x CnD is 1,25 sec (2x 1/2 and 1x 1/4) according to it. No four seconds staring at each other.

Reesha: The post was to point out that me as a player that is not playing GW2 non-stop came to try it out and I got totally owned within a very short time period. Whether it’s a problem of the whole game or of one paricular class/build I don’t know. What I know is that I was disgusted by it and decided to write about it. This was my experience with GW2 sPvP and it was not good.
I see that I must have hit a sensitive spot.

The rest or the people that answered had only hate rant so I won’t bother answering them (hope I didn’t overlook a constructive response).

There is no excuse to being killed in one second. Period.

Quincy: Funny that you talk about brain when this is not about brain (being outsmarted). This is about reaction time. Not very bright… lol

Dahkeus: I play almost excusively PvP. I don’t see how me having the most op class has anything to do with the fact that I got killed in such a short time. I wasn’t talking about thief escaping. From what I understand thief was supposed to be a burst class limited by initiative. When I left the game thief was able to practically perma stealth and burst in those tiny frames when he was visible (so he was able to get initiative all the time without being practically limited). Now I see that this class can kill heavy armor class in a second. I don’t want to spend several weeks figuring out how to counter a class that can do that and honing my reflexes to fit between a split of a second and my ping. My only reaction to a thief could be to dodgeroll right away as I see him to avoid burst if he chooses to do so. Anyway my post is not about if it’s possible to counter a thief – it’s quite obvious it is, my post is about the fact that I got killed in about a second. I don’t think this kind of burst belongs to PvP and I don’t have fun when playing against it.

Cynz: I levelled warrior to 80, played about 50-100 sPvP with her. I didn’t counter the thief as I didn’t have time to do so. One second to avoid death – on shot chance is just not okay. I could have as well played any class and I would get killed the same since warrior had the highest hp/armor of all classess as far as I know. Roll or die… Yes, I hope this post will contribute to thieves being nerfed, thank you.

SeratedOcean: I didn’t get scared by high damage. I was disgusted by the timeframe it was dealt in. /facepalm yourself . Practice? THIS was an attempt to play some low level PvP. Apparently one-shotting passess as being an accepted part of this game. If you think that it’s okay that I get killed in a second and your response to it is /facepalm, /lol and ltp, then you are either a showoff or you lost touch to what is appropriate response time.

So, I came back after playing other games, let’s try how GW2 is these days. Rolled a dps warrior, went to do a PvP daily.
Got to a 1v1 match.
Spotted a thief a behind a corner, I was expecting him but I had meelee weapons equipped and I didn’t want to switch to avoid the switch cd. I started running towards him to engage in meelee. Then something happened and I was dead. In about a second.
Checked log. Cluster bomb 5k, Backstab 8k, 2x Cloak and dagger 2,5k apiece.
gg

Granted, I was trying out new weapon combinations and I didn’t play (GW2) for quite some time but this is not okay. Having some freaking 1v1 1-second ttk predators is not cool at all.

I am not even going to bother finding out how this is “reasonable” or “doable” according to gear and traits available.

I am moving to next game. Hopefully this will be different when (if ever) I come back… I feel very disappointed.

Trebuchet Mastery?

in WvW

Posted by: Edward.7362

Edward.7362

Am I missing something or is Trebuchet mastery WAAAAY OP?
Supply drain on cow, new waterfield skill and tower supply drain?
This will lead to huge supply shortage. In larger sieges nobody will have supply because all attackers will be drained by cows and defender will get drained by normal shots. So main force will facerub the gate with a support of trebs from afar. Also with no supply around it will become excessively difficult to upgrade and repair forts. Supplies haven’t been exactly in excess even until now. I am afraid that this might lead to all towers being wooden.

PvD on wooden forts and treb vs treb artillery combat. Treb wars?

I am curious how this will actually work out…

Healing Signet Outhealing 2 WvW cannons

in Warrior

Posted by: Edward.7362

Edward.7362

I think the signet is okay. It has a strong regeneration but it’s active heal is real crap. So it works well against sustained dps but it’s useless against burst. 3,5k heal with 1,5 sec cast on 20 sec cd seems almost a waste of time to use.

Also I can’t really see how you can hold out against 2 cannons with anything else than full tank. If that’s the case, enjoy it! I’d say the sweet spot is around 3k armor and with that you can’t stay on 2 cannons for very long.

Signet is not OP. It has it place where if used properly it shines.

loot since update

in WvW

Posted by: Edward.7362

Edward.7362

That’s it! After playing for two hours in zerg vs zerg fighting I got exactly 20 items white-blue-green. It has been like this since the last patch.
I wasn’t getting exactly rich before but I was SLOWLY getting money for my commander tag. Now there is no way I can get that in WvWvW given the new loot rewards system.
This completely ruined the game for me as I am only interested in WvWvW (+daily sPvP) but now I feel that aNet is forcing me to go grind money to the stupid grind event in Divinity Reach or conducting TP schemes. I can’t stand that mindless grind in Divinity Reach. AoE, move to next group, AoE move to next group, AoE, move to next group…((((((((((((( I am not a bot!!!
I am disgusted, I don’t believe this is some sort of oversight. I don’t know why aNet made this decision but it’s a very bad one.
If this is not getting fixed soon I’ll find another game to play.

Help with Warrior Alt

Edward.7362

From what I remember I got best results for levelling with greatsword. I remember it was a good compromise for me to use berserker gear and defensive traits. You don’t hit that hard but you can survive.

Other options would be to take hammer as second weapon and use weakness on it and AoE stun.

Or you can use axe and warhorn. Warhorn has AoE weakness (Call to arms) and axe has nice damage so you come to an enemy blow the horn for AoE weakness and smite them with axe or Gratsword 2.

Also, some areas have plain stupid difficulty. Try to change your levelling area and see if the problem is in your build / ability usage or in monsters.

If you are playing on Desolation EU or you can/are willing to guest to it, you can try to whisper me and I’ll help you in-game time permitting. I am sure it’s just some minor detail and everything will be all right.

How to fight the skullcrack build

in Warrior

Posted by: Edward.7362

Edward.7362

Also, the food is -40% condi duration, which is still crazy when paired with Melandru (-25%) and the -33% control effects trait for a -98% total.

I wonder why people keep saying warriors are almost immune to conditions because of the food, other players can use food too. Any class has access to the food, also condition duration food. So let’s say some condi necro uses Rare veggie pizza for +40% condition duration, +30% condition duration from a trait line and +10% from any rune set with condition duration. That’s +80% condition duration. So if the warrior gets -98% condition duration, it’s -18% from the original value.

Thanks for explaining this. I was always wondering if it works that way. That’s very good news.
I also found a thread about it here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Condition-duration-vs-Condition-duration/first#post2214705

Also, people should understand that Dogged March affects only movement impairing conditions, not bleeds, burns or poison. So in terms of condition damage you can get 80% boost but only 65% reduction. I can rightfully demand a buff to get equal grounds!

I strongly disagree with reduce condition duration nerf. Especially with food.
Lemongrass counters Pizza in 1v1. Pizza affects AoE so it’s more valuable imo. You can’t expect everybody running with Lemongrass (have you seen the price on TP lately? It was around 25 silver per one. I wonder how many people actually use that buff all the time).

Rune of Melandru is a very defensive rune. You are sacrificing your dps or abilities from another rune set for more defense. It’s not like it was a 1-rune set.

WvW Warrior

Hi,

warrior is a great profession. It’s interesting to play. It’s not overly complicated, but it’s also not boring. You can do well on it (I don’t play tPvP) and have fun with it.
Everybody likes something else and some professions are utterly boring for one person and exciting for other. having said that my experience is (I have level 80 of these professions):

Elementalist: My main. You’ll have to work your a** off to play it properly. Constant attunement switches, mistakes are costly and might get you killed. You’ll get OWNED until you learn to play it decently. Also you can’t really switch weapons that means if you hafve Dagger/dagger you’ll have to go to enemy if you want to do damage – you can’t switch to ranged.
Guardian: Powerful, really good defense but… …somehow boring. It’s been ok for levelling, it has got everything I want from ideal class but somehow I just enjoy other professions more. It’s probably my build… People like to have guardians around. A very good choice.
Necromancer: Biggest faceroll ever. Just cluster your enemies and put 3874065 million AoE on the ground and they’ll die. Quickly. Two weapon choices + Death Shroud. If you like necromancer theme then go for it – easy to play and you’ll get results. (Tagging with necro in WvWvW is a laugh. Just spec for targetable Wells and use staff + Death shroud)
Warrior: Very interesting profession. Nice armor and health pool lets you go as tanky or bursty as you wish and you’ll still be viable. If you are interested, I just posted a jack-oa-all trades WvWvW build. I describe in some detail why I took what trait and occationally I write about some possible uses. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Post-Your-Build-Thread/page/3#post2590763 I am having a huge fun with a similar build in sPvP.

My suggestion is that you create a character of each class and try them all in sPvP. You should get the feeling what “feels” right for you. For example I know rogues are extremely powerful, but I just can’t stand playing them. It’s not my cup of tea.

Food:
I use Mango pie for passive health regeneration as I feel it’s the most universal one. Heal on crit, heal on kill and 40% reduced condition duration are other options and will perform better in specific situations.

How I play with this spec:
This spec is about flexibility. You have a bit of everything so you can counter almost anything if you play it properly. This includes knowing when to fight and when to flee. Trying to solo a roamer thief that’s built for 1v1 is not going to work, but you have means of escaping him. Rampage is awesome for this – 20 seconds of stability and swiftness coupled with incredibly long charges cripple attack and two stuns should definitely get you to safety.

Please note that I will not respond to your suggestions how to tweak the build or make it better or more efficient. By all means customize it for yourself but this is the way I like playing it and I won’t change it until I feel a need for it. I am perfectly happy with it as it is.

Thank for reading! I hope it has inspired you!

EDIT: I have uploaded a daily in sPvP (as I wrote, I use rifle instead of longbow there) so that you might get an idea how it plays. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1trkK430zBY

Skills:

Heal:
I use healing signet for passive regen. With Adrenal Healing and food I use I tick around 1000 health and if I get into trouble I have active defenses. Healing surge is a nice choice too though. There is no best healing skill, they are circumstantial.

Utility1:
Bull’s charge. I have described my reasons in Discipline in general at length.

Utility2:
Circumstantial. Anything with stability, Bolas, Stomp, Signet of might, Frenzy, possibly Fear Me. Whatever your heart desires.

Utility3:
Endure Pain. For getting out of tight spots.

Elite:
Classic Battle Standard or Rampage. While I will probably be burned for this I do use Rampage on default and switch on BS only when I know it may make a tremendous difference. For example for ressing lord and players while defending SM and I know reinforcements are on their way. BS is a skill for controlled use in a coordinated group. Using it in PuG zerg mostly just delays inevitable – if enemy was able to down 1/3 of your group he can probably do it again shortly after you ress. This is my experience. With Rampage I have access to 20 seconds of stabiilty and swiftness, AoE stun, ranged stun, cripple, and fabulous extremely long-range charge. Use it with brains. Jumping with it into first zerg clash will kill you. Using it after enemy has used their stabilities is another story. Also, you can jump into enemy ranged group with this, wreak some havoc, they’ll stop shooting into your hammer buddies and concentrate on saving their own hide. use charge just before the Rampage is about to expire to get some distance, then some double dodge rolls, Shielding, Endure Pain and possibly bull’s charge and you are out of trouble while you have helped your team. The point here is not to kill enemies (which you btw can quite easily with rampage) but to mess them up. In my opinion if you do it like this Rampage might have more effect than battle standard, it’s just working proactively rather than reactively. If you are human you might consider running Avatar of Melandru – it has an AoE root and condition removal. Making every enemy rooted and cleansing conditions from your allies is not a minor thing. All in all, elite is again one of the skills that you can modify to better suit your playstyle

Weapons:

Sword:
Universal weapon. First ability is decent, 2nd is a gap closer (escaper) + cripple and 3rd packs a punch (Sword abilities have changed recently so if you haven’t played your war for some time, check them). Burst skill AoE immobilizes. Decent weapon. I was running with axe earlier. It does have more primal dps but you might have trouble with kiting and enemies with high direct-damage resistance.

Shield:
Stun and (reflective) block. Don’t forget stun is an interrupt. Also the stun is a minor gap closer too. Thieves don’t like it very much. You can for example use the bash to close on them and the 1-sec stun is just enough to make sure your sword burst skill will land which might not have been the case without the short stun. This way the thief will find himself on defense since he’ll get rooted, he’ll be in front of you (no flanking bonuses) and he’ll he subject to some bleeds. Also, it’s a leap finisher. My point is that don’t discard Shield Bash (or shield). It can really shine.

Longbow:
I use it in the initial phase of zerg clashes. Tag enemies (lootbagz!!), AoE fire field – damage + combo field Fire. This will get some damage going – not only for me but also for my teammates sice they’ll be in firefield and they’ll benefit from any skill that uses a finisher (hammers, projectiles, whirlwinds..). With this Fire field I may probably indirectly contribute with more dps than if I were an immortal berzerker (for those few initial seconds anyway). I usually follow with ability 3 – blast finisher. Blast my fire field, do some damage (it’s not uncommon to see 3k+ AoE damage from that arrow) and give might to my teammates. Next would be number 4 to AoE blind enemies and then it’s according to how the battle unfolds. I like to use number 5 on any showoff to muck up their performance – be it a thief harassing our ranged or perhaps a mobile tanky guardian/warrior without stability. Be mindful with firefield placement later in the battle so that you won’t block possible waterfields. I do feel with often firefield access AoE dmg, finisher and blind longbow is worth taking into battle. Concussive shot is on 8,5 sec cd in this spec (2418 burning damage + some direct) and since you have shorter weapon swaps, you have plenty of time to switch to meelee (With a chill effect), join the fray and swap back to longbow as soon as it’s ready. Don’t be afraid to switch to longbow to use the firefield when you see you can take the damage around. It adds might, combofield and another condition (burning) on enemy.

Edward.7362

Discipline in general:
Crit damage and burs recharge are nice as they are in sync with relatively high crit chance and possible Defense IX but the real reason I took this is Fast Hands – faster weapon swap. I do like to change my weapons a lot, use what is needed in that exact moment and there is no worse thing than hopping around, waiting for your weapon cd to recharge. This is another huge thing for me. I could have stayed on 15 points and invested the other 5 elsewhere, that part I consider optional. I put them here for Mobile Strikes access. Why? I use Bull’s charge both offensively and defensively. On offense it’s a nice gap closer all right but why I really like it is that when enemy immobilizes you, he’s up to no good. There is a good chance that he’s follow up with burst after an immobilize. Using Bull’s charge not only takes you to him, but also interrupts his burst and gives you the opportunity to turn tables – he wasted his cd and now you are on him doing your nasty rotation. A very nice way or using this is when you are on longbow, you charge the enemy, switch weapons (adds chill) and use burst on sword (paralyze effect). Complete turnover. Again for situations like this the ability to switch weapons in crucial. On defensive usage, it’s nice to have and ability to get away from enemy who has paralyzed you. You break the paralyze and get some distance.

Discipline III:
While you can have lot of swiftness (up to perma) from warhorn and other abilities I find that having passive movement speed increase is a very nice thing to have. Let’s face it: it gets tiresome to come to a fight that ended just before you came only because you were tagging behind the zerg because of no swiftness. Yes, you can use GS charge but then you would need to use GS, which wasn’t the best choice for WvWvW for me. While nice for 1v1, I find the fact that your main damage skill needs you to stand on the spot vulnerable to zerg AoE dps/cc fest quite deterring and suicidal. You’ll have to have some sort of speed boost. In practice this means swiftness from horn – you’ll have to take horn for it, or charge from GS – you’ll have to take GS for it or Warrior’s Spring that let’s you have the speed increase all the time and you are not running a risk of meeting a happy necro what will convert your swiftness to cripple with smug smile and destroy you from afar while you try to limp toward him. I am not saying that WH or GS are bad, they just have distinct disadvantages and you must have either of them if you want to keep up with zerg (if you are not using III). So this skill is not only about movement increase, it’s about freeing your weapon choice to something else than GS or WH.

Discipline X:
I wrote the reason why I took this in Discipline in general. EDIT: I forgot to mention that it works also with Sword 2 and Shield 4. ^^

Hello,

I would like to share my WvWvW build with you. I run with PuG zergs with a commander around. There is some measure of organization involved but also a lot of free-for-all too. This build lets me contribute in a meaningful way while not relying on someone to support me. This post is intended mostly for new players and those who who have not decided yet.
The build is based on my experience and personal preference rather than on carefully crunched numbers in some build calculator. It evolved and molded as I needed to address various obstacles in WvWvW. It is a jack-of-all trades so you won’t beat a focused build in it’s chosen area but you’ll be able to do everything. You have decent damage, decent control, active defenses, mobility and way to escape from sticky situations. I use a slight variation of this build for sPvP daily (rifle instead of longbow + piercing shots) and I am having fun with it (I can usually stand my ground almost against anybody – but then it’s daily sPvP, not tPvP ;-) ).

I am running with sword/shield and longbow. Traits are 0/30/20/0/20.

Explaining why I took the traits and weapons I did:

Arms in general:
More crit and I really wanted Arms XI. Arms II and III (VI) doesn’t hurt either. In general I took this to enhance my offensive capabilities.

Arms III:
I am running two bleed heavy weapons sword and longbow and increasing their bleeding part damage by 50% is nice. On longbow this adds around 2k damage on skill 5. Some opponents are running heavy armor low hp builds and bleeds let you get under their skin.

Arms II:
This one is really optional. It lets me keep mobile with longbow. VI is a better option if you find yourself in meele a lot.

Arms XI:
This build has regen based on adrenaline level, 5-sec weapon swap and possibly condition removal upon burst skill use and high crit. This is a natural choice.

Defense in general:
Awesome major traits, Adrenal Health. While you can use only two of the following it’s good to switch around and fine tune as needed. All of them are very circumstantial. I am running most time with II and V because I am not having trouble with conditions on me. If you like to spend more time in meelee take IX by all means!

Defense II:
Less kiting and regeneration. While I am not too bothered about being kited – I have two gap closers (sword, Bull’s charge), ranged weapon, chill on swap, two stuns (Bull’s charge and Shield stun), two paralyzes (sword, longbow) and reflect on blocking – regeneration comes in handy.

Defense V:
A huge deterrent for rangers. Saves life while on escape. This is a big deal. If you are running this with Healing Surge and Endure Pain you’ll get 4 seconds of projectile reflection and 4 seconds of damage immunity. 8 seconds to get out of trouble + dodgerolls. This skill made a huge difference for me in surviving tight spots.

Defense IX:
You have ability to get adrenaline fast and use burst skills often. If you are having trouble with conditions, take this and you’ll gain phenomenal condition removals.

I am not sure if this will help you but I am running the game on i7 3820, 16GB RAM and 660Ti 2GB in 1680×1050 at max settings (No OC beyond factory) and everything is smooth until blobs meet in WvWvW. Normally I don’t feel any sloppy movements or anythign like that. At 20 vs 20 the game starts to be noticably slow at 50+ vs 50+ it’s a Powerpoint slideshow.

You can check out for example this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP_TEMnZNiA for more intensive graphics effects. The game was quite playable at this intensity. …but then there are those moments when blob hits the fan…

While I do agree, that XP and gold from PvP would be nice, I suspect people who suggested that army of bots will emerge are right. Currently we have everything we need for doing PvP properly and we have a separate reward system. Once you tear down the veil forums will be full of people crying (and rightfully so) that half of team are bots and other half are premades. I have been in a game like that and I don’t want to go there again. Considering this I would advice against any sort of transferrable benefit (except AP ofc).

I have played sPvP for a last couple of days and all I see are thieves and mesmers. Seeing any other class is very rare, what happened? I’d say that about 80% of team players play thieves or mesmers. This is not okay.

Also, being downed against a thief means certain death – he’ll stealth or teleport out and in and finish me without any chance of stopping / delaying him. Two thieves that run together are almost impossible to kill as they cover each other in stealth whenever the teammate falls and revive him. We should be able to see stealth thieves near us while being downed.

PVT (soldiers) vs Zerker? Math Time!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Edward.7362

Edward.7362

Thank you for taking time and writing this analysis.

I think that the “best” gear is very circumstential. Generally speaking – the smaller and more contolled envirornment the more berserk you can go. Also some classes with a lot of invulnerabilities (mesmer and thief being a perfect example) can go more berserker than those that have to rely on dodges and rare skill usage to mitigate damage. Again, this is very generally speaking.

My WvWvW viewpoint (Why I run PVT):

As staff ele in WvWvW I can’t run in anything that doesn’t have loads of vitality or toughness. Why?

When I cast Meteor Shower and Glyph of Storms and enemy pops retaliation you are a toast in 3 seconds unless you have 20k-ish health. Switching earth for Protection and then immediatelly to water for regen + using heal skill is necessary too. I end up usually at round 2-3k health after that. (I am FULL PVT – 22k health) I can’t see a zerker surviving this…

I also need toughness for occational pushes in tight spaces – for example castle sieges or or tight spots (you can double dodgeroll through enemies AoE but you’ll take loads of damage even afterwards). Also I often suppress enemy walls and destroy sieges which makes me a very popular target of enemy ranged dps and sieges. Way to the wall + casting Meteor Shower + Glyph of Storms + getting away alive. Again, this would be impossible in zerker gear. You have to stand and cast there while under fire.

After having enough vitality and toughness to survive when it counts I can increase different stats.

Another thing is that some vital skills are not significantly (or at all) affected by critical chance / damage. Static field or waterfields for example. I do try to have decent crit though – I use heal on crit food.

What do you want actually?

in WvW

Posted by: Edward.7362

Edward.7362

They could limit number of players who can access WvWvW to be not more than 20% of the 2nd biggest WvWvW population and no more than 50% more than 3rd WvWvW population. The fact that server WvWvW population allowance ratio now seems to be practically unrestrained suggests that aNet will not implement this sort of mechanism. I can only guess they are afraid of queues.

Judging from what I have seen tiers will eventually be sorted by population and coverage ability and only then by skill. If we were to be matched against the best possible match aNet would need to introduce “population over time” graph and maybe “(score) activity to population present” ratio graph and match servers that best correlate (with a 2-tier difference for randomization).

As I understand it, in the end after all the calculations are done, each server is given one number which is used to match it to other servers. One number won’t work when there are servers with totally different population, coverage and skill involved. It will work (sort of) after the dust settles and servers are matched against comparably (WvWvW) populated oppponents.

Unfortunately I don’t see the dust settling anytime soon as aNet will try to implement solutions to go around two source problems mention above never addressing them directly. This is not intended as flaming against aNet, I simply don’t believe a big company would make such a radical change. Big gaming companies usually make slow patching steps, not radical leaps.

To contribute in a positive way, what could be done now in this situation we are in? Sort servers according to WvWvW population. Perhaps adjusted by one or two positions in accordance with current score (this can be done by sorting servers by score, then comparing relative positions on population list and on score list). In my opinion this would allow for the simple best match in current situation.

Today I have tried several times to do the Gates of Arah event. And I must say that the difficulty is ridiculous. We were usually 3-5 people and each time we were SLAUGHTERED by a group with an abomination and 20ish stack of normal mobs. I wanted to visit karma vendor either at Arah or Grenth but it’s practically impossible.

I can only guess that you expect me to conjure a 30+ friends who will sacrifice their time a sit on Team Speak so that I can visit a karma vendor. Well it’s not going to happen. I don’t have 30 friends in the game. Advertising on the map chat doesn’t work. Some people do show up but after being slaughtered (with event failed basically at the beginning) they don’t show up again, and I can’t blame them. Advertising on lfg website doesn’t work.

From my point of view, this is a huge mess. I don’t care how you want me to play it. I am not having fun even though I have spent considerable time and effort to complete the event. You need to fix this.

Anybody insutling a team member is a moron. Period.

You generally have to be told some things, otherwise you’ll probably not notice. RI buff and siege engine refresh being two of them.

The fact that he insulted you instead of helping you does speak more about him than about you. You’ll “grow up” from being new to WvWvW, but his attitude will probably stick to him.

Hello,

after a long pause I have come back to Guild Wars 2 and I wanted to complete my world exploration but I find it impossible to get to the points I need in WvWvW because our server never holds any of the points, acutally it seems it never holds anything as if WvWvW was completely dead. I checked several times during last days and the state was the same. I play on Desolation server.

I have tried to guest to a different server to get to the locations but guesting apparently doesn’t work in WvWvW.

I don’t want to pay for server transfer.

Is it even possible to complete it without server transfer?

Question: How to counter thieves

in Elementalist

Posted by: Edward.7362

Edward.7362

Hello,

I am running D/D elementalist build. I have huge trouble countering thieves, particulary those spamming Heartseeker.

I am under constant pressure and I have to use defensive cd only to survive more than a few seconds. I try to use stun aura in air, water to slow and earth to stun and AoE but my damage is insignificant to his and so he can easily outheal my attemtpts to dps.

I am currently running Air 10, Water 30, Arcana 30

I have searched the forums and Google assuming this is a common issue but haven’t found anything useful. Can you give me some pointers, perhaps a link? Any help would be appriciated, thank you.
