So basically we have the same matchups 2-3 times. Gandara will win because each night they take over 10k points on each server, doesn’t matter what you do during morning/day/prime time/late evening
I’m on FSP and I would love a matchup: FSP – Piken – Gunnar’s Hold, because I think this would be our most beautifull matchup (decent fights, PPT till friday, servers with equal number of people). But that will never happen in this system.
In our matchup against Vizunah (on FSP) we took a group-selfie on top of SM (an SM that we took at least 10-15 times on friday alone).
So viz, thanks for the loot and the bags, in 4 hours against you guys I died once, and that was a buffed lord in SM
So making this topic: #Selfie for epic selfies or selfies with a nice story, enjoy yourselfs
Gj AG and Gandara for the cap. Suicided probably 5 times on those AC’s.
TY. But I think I died also about 5 times
It was out christmas-gift to you guys:
A second reset. Everything down to T0 without siege.
Was a fun fight, you guys had at least double our numbers (AG) so yeah, we double teamed. Although I have to say, we never spoke to eachother before it started. Its just seemed to happen.
But props to everyone, from every server for keep holding on. This was one of the most awesome takeovers I participated in.
(edited by Elder Sang.2058)
this matchup really is just a case of waking up in the morning and having to make up for the extreme night-capping that goes on.
Like yesterday, was fun flipping everything in Deso BL from T3 (fully sieged) to T1. Only didn’t do Garrison because Home and EB couldn’t handle themselfs
I normally don’t bother to discuss these kind of threads, but I see a lot of people voting to nerf retaliation. Being guardian from day one, I can say that retaliation is one of the few points we have in our advantage.
Warrior can have lot’s of burst damage and great survivability, ele, necro, engi, etc have their range as an advantage, thieves can burst someone down in less then 2 seconds.
Guardians have their defensive strengths and one of those is retaliation. In my guild we duel frequently, and I can tank and outheal almost 90% of my opponents. But I can’t kill them because of my lack of damage. Going full damage isn’t an option for guardian, certainly not with all the AoE that is going on…
Yes, there are disadvantages to retal. But can you imagine what happens when you take it out, of nerf it? AoE gets even more overpowered. Did any engineer or other class except of Guardian/Warrior in here ever stood at a T3 gate, while 30+ people aoe down on you?
100% of the guardians runs staff (only one ranged attack every 8 or 9 sec), 90% runs GS or Hammer (no ranged attacks). The only way to make them stop attacking is retaliation, otherwise they can fire down freely.
I read posts that say, if we can’t play our way, we don’t want to play. Well, with guardian is has been like this since the beginning. The only decent weaponset in WvW is GS or Hammer/Staff. No sword/shield/scepter/focus combo. we could complain about that 2.
WvW is what it is. WvW isn’t fair. Is it fair we face a server that can bring in 10 times more people on the battlefield? From my view people complain because they have a difficult time. This is pvp times 100. You do have people who think, it’s not fricking PvE where you randomly press buttons.
Players use what they have to their advantage. Retaliation is one of those things. Try to find a way around it, and beat them on their own territory. Then you’ll have the last laugh, not discussing this on this forum because it won’t change a thing.

I am full of respect to MS who were defending Hills on AG bl. Huge fights, excelent defence. Great matchup!
I agree, we fought hard over a T3 Hills saturdaynight. When I took over around 1 am cet we had a nice “blob” and we fought over hills for 3h23 min.
You guys withstood every wave we send, we got through outer every time but you pushed us back out. It was blob v blob, but it was awesome fights.
Some statistics, only from those last 3,5h:
Taking Hills T3 from you guys cost us:
- 29 omega golems
- 5 or 6 complete wipes
- about 35 superior rams
- tons of motivation speeches
- and my full next workweek due of sleep deprivation
at the end we had to kitten down inner from 75% with about 20-25 people because you had still 20-25??? people inside who were fighting our kitten off; You still have to explain me how you guys are able to siege up so fast after each wave (about 10 to 15 min between every wave?). That was insane and such a nice challenge.
Props for everyone who was in that fight, offensive and defensive, it was the most awesome battle in a very long time for me.
Don’t remember the guild involved but I love every single one of you, you guys make WvW awesome.
On a sidenote, decent fight on Millers BL this afternoon, sorry for breaking down the doors in garrison so often, nice of you to clean up so much after we passed by (or cleaning us up :-) ). Still glad we were able to reset all T3 stuff in there except garrison
Thanks, and don’t lose that fighting spirit you guys are the most fun I had in this whole league thingie.
Dear moderators, can you close this topic?

After all suggestions and questions and remarks, I adapted the whole thing. It’s not a set of rules anymore, some people hated that and I’m not the one that wants to obligate someone to follow them. So I turned them into guidelines which you can add to Ogro’s video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzLESoBiI_U&feature=c4-overview&list=UUzoRcgOH6TQxvW54b0Dqy8A). I will also ask the moderators to close this topic. Ty for your cooperation.

General guidelines for GvG
General remark: These are mere guidelines to participate in GvG. If guilds want to implement other rules, they can do as they please.
1. What is a GvG?
GvG stands for “Guild vs Guild”. It consists of two guilds fighting each other in open field battle using only their knowledge of the professions, the cohesion of their guild and the composition of the terrain to claim victory over the opposing guild.
2. How do you win a GvG?
Guilds can choose between following formats:
- “Best out of …”; where an uneven number of games is predetermined. This can be terminated before reaching that number of games when one team has made a irreconcilable difference.
- “First until …”; where the number of winning games is predetermined.
The guild with the most games won, wins the GvG. A game is won when one of both guilds wipes out the other guild or when the opposing guild leader forfeits the game.
3. How do you play a GvG?
On each side there is one guild.
Each guild usually bring 10, 15 or 20 players in the GvG. This number is equal on both sides so no guild can gain a numerically advantage over the opposing guild. It’s like a sport game.
If any player of either participating guilds, who is not included in the agreed number of players, interferes with the GvG, that game doesn’t count anymore. In most of the cases this is considered cheating.
There are no general restrictions on the usage of a profession and the number of the same profession. The fun part of GvG is that you can fight other guilds with whatever composition you create.
Both guilds will agree on the starting time of the GvG by using the match up tick timer. " go on 9 minutes". Until then they stay at the opposite sides of the jousting ground.
4. Which professions and builds can be used?
There is no interdiction on the use of Professions, Skills or Equipment.
The only exception on this: Every player has to clear the stacks they have gathered on weapons/equipment using sigils (ex. Bloodlust) before entering a GvG. In the majority of the cases the stacks of previous games have to be deleted. Lots of guilds don’t allow their players to use these stacking sigils anymore to avoid this problem.
5. Buffs/Boosts
This is a list of buffs and boosts that are allowed most of the time:
- Food
- Slayer potions
- Maintenance oils
- Sharpening stones
- Tuning crystals
This is a list of buffs and boosts that are not allowed in most GvG’s because they give an unfair advantage.
- +15% Gathering and 10% Swiftness Banner
- Kite Fortune
- Road Marker
- Armor Booster
- Speed Booster
- Strength Booster
- Rejuvenation Booster
There are discussions whether you can use the ghost tonic, it’s up to you to decide what and how.
6. Where do we play a GvG?
GvG in GW2 has been played as an open field battle, without any buildings, things to cap or siege. Only the terrain can be used to gain advantage on the opposing guild.
This terrain has been used most of the times, if new, more suitable areas are found for GvG they can be added to this paragraph.
b. GvG terrain: The WINDMILL
- North: Third tree line
- East: East Wall of the windmill
- South: Second ledge of the
- West: Ledge going down to the water
Building siege is not done (unless for ceremonial usage). It is called guildwars and not siegewars. Besides that, siege makes you less mobile. Before every game, spectators remove all possible rally content off the terrain. This is mostly the PvE-stuff on the terrain (boars, monsters, etc.)
7. Spectators
Spectators are players who are not actively participating in the GvG. We ask of spectators to no interfere in whatever way with the GvG. When a game is finished spectators can revive the fallen allies. We ask to behave in a decent manner, we are all there to enjoy the GvG.
Until we have a real GvG setting, provided by Anet, Guilds will often ask the spectators to leave the borderland to let some of their members in. Please do so. Don’t forget, lots of the guilds have a Livestream where you can follow what’s happening in a front row seat.
Thank you for your attention.

We know that the legendaries will have changeable stats after the next big update.
My question is; will the crafting recipes of the legendaries also change?
I’m currently 450 zaithan tokens en 10 clovers away from bifrost and I have, due to RL obligations and work, only tonight, sundayevening and mondayevening limited time before the update. I prefer to not see all my work so far being wasted.
Challenge button I can 100% get behind, with a record of accepts/declines (as long as the declining guild has an opportunity to display a reason)
However, the focus needs to be taken AWAY from the rating, not put more towards it.I’ll be honest, the more the discussion about punishments etc get brought up, the more I worry about how intimidating this must seem for a new guild looking to get into the scene. Really a lot of the discussion doesn’t lead towards a friendly environment for new guilds at all. Take for example, the pre-assigned GvG’s based on matchups. Lets say you’re a new guild looking to get its first taste of GvG, you sign up on the website, Friday comes around, and you get matched up against GD/VII/VotF – realistically, its only going to end one way. And that’s fine if the new guild wants to challenge these guilds, but they shouldn’t be FORCED to fight anyone they don’t want to.
If we want this to go anywhere, we NEED the community to grow bigger than it is currently, and that means we NEED to think about any decision that gets made, and how it looks to new guilds looking to get involved in the scene. Believe me, I know how frustrating it is to get dodged, but this “get the pitchforks” attitude comes across a kittenildish.
This is the discussion that is happening. At the end, we will look which solution is best for the guilds and the growth of the GvG scene.
Just FYI, the idea for arranged matches for each week was mine and Marty was very kind to try it out. Don’t shoot the pianist, he is making our lives som much easier with this site. Second, I think he was trying to implement friendly matches. So you can challenge someone using the site to challenge someone for a friendly unranked GvG. This could be used on the “obligated” GvG. This way people will perhaps have guilds they do not dare to challenge on their own.
Important is also, if a lower tier wins from a higher tier in a friendly game, it still doesn’t count for their ranking. Once the GvG has started that can’t be changed.
The whole reason this is not on the website is because “they’re” is just me and all my time is already going into answering everyone’s questions and creating new features for the website, heck I haven’t been able to raid for 2/3 weeks. Having to watch GvG videos of every match won’t fit my schedule :P.
And that’s why we love you (or at least I do )
Ok lot’s of work, great. Some reactions and questions.
Any rules on how interference is to be handled? Play-on? Draw?
I understood your question slightly wrong. I would suggest a restart of the game that has been interupted by other players then the guilds. That should be easier to controle. Players that interfere with a GvG who are not member of one of both guilds, will of course be killed by the guild that can kill him
Couple things to prevent these extreme cases.
1. Both guilds will agree on the starting time of the gvg by using the match up tick timer. " go on 9 minutes".
2. Every member of the opposing team must be further than 1.2k range of the enemy team untill the start of the gvg (ofc movement during the downtime is totally free).
3. Every member must be inside 1.2k radius of the commander before the start of the gvg. ( mark starting area that both starting areas?)
4. Tighter limit on the combat area. Instant disqualification of a player if fallen into water without enemy control. Same if gone past the second forest treeline (trunks), north side of the gvg area.Alot of the rules are irrelevant. Im just thinking extreme troll moments.
I will try to implement these suggestions. And I agree with the statement underneath them. Two reasons to write these rules down. If everybody would be honoust, there would be no need for them. And completely new GvG-guild will have a “good manners guide”, or something that helps them to start getting in the scene. Most veterans know these rules and take them for granted, but we need these veterans to help new guild on the right path. That’s why I need YOU.
As to the extended list of ideas from the OP. I think it just needs to be agreed between opponents tbh.
Imaging setting up a GvG now and after these rules. After this rules you can send: GvG / date / number of people / use rules on gw2gvg. Makes life more easy. But like said in OP, you don’t have to use them, they are here to help you.
A possible thought to this, instead of forcing a challenge for multiple reasons already brought up in the thread, instead make a challenge/accept history. Basically guild A has issued a 20v20 challenge to guild B and guild B declines the offer. Now the guild history of both guilds shows this record. This in no way punishes a guild with theoretical rating but instead challenges their reputation to stay active. If it would be possible and wouldn’t clutter the UI it may be nice to have a short 15/w (just an example) description for reasons ex. Driver was away, we do not 10v10, etc.
GREAT idea. I will ask Marty if something like this is possible. Just one thing. Do you have an idea how to solve the next situation: if a guild accepts the challenge on the site and doesn’t show up at the requested time? On the site there is no record of that. If you would place a “no-show” button, this could probably lead to abuse and big useless discussions. So any thoughts on this?
Matches need to speed up as well and teams taking 20 minutes between rounds has got to stop. I think a clock rule should be added as well. For example: If Team B is taking too long, Team A can notify them that they are being put on the clock. If Team B is not ready within 10 minutes of that point, the round is forfeit.
I will have a look on this. Again, this is for extreme situations, more the exception then the rule.
I hear a lot of pro and against shapechanging potions. I don’t want that decides the final rule, because I can follow and understand both sides of the story. On the other hand, I mostly play WvW (and so GvG) on highest performance, so it makes not a real difference to me. I know when I suggest a rule here, there will be people cheering for it and some will shoot me down for it.
The solution maybe lies in letting the guilds decide this one for their own, I don’t know.
any suggestions?
Last question that comes in mind: What to do with armor repairs? Atm defeated guilds get ressurected but when you die 5 times, your armor is getting down, which gives you also a snowball effect. Does a guild deserves to time to go repair?
Rules are indeed there to decide about extreem cases. If everyone did what common sense would suggest, there wouldn’t be any need for rules (like Sabul said). But people don’t.
I have a long day of work ahead, so no direct adjustments today, I do hope people keep suggesting, I really like the input so far.
Any rules on how interference is to be handled? Play-on? Draw?
Interference = losing that particular game. It’s then up to the guild leader to make sure his or her guild doesn’t do it again. We don’t have the ability to create judges, like some people already said in several posts, we have to rely on the honousty and honour of the guild(leader). I thought I read somewhere a post to give spectators a standard spot from where they really can’t interfere with the GvG. Maybe we should look into that. Any suggestions?
Can we get NFL style instant-replay?
You can always switch servers and start taping
While I appreciate your effort Elder, the problem I have with all this is that it seems convoluted on purpose, kind of like law or finances are… in the spirit of making it sound complex and imposing. Double edge sword, and really, all those paragraphs could be summarized in 3 or four lines. Wouldnt look as flashy tho, but to the rookies it is more appealing and reasonable.
If you really want to do this you gotta come up with a clean, easy and very short exposition. Keep it simple ppl.
My 2c, as always, no more no less. o/
I have no problem with all these reactions, I like the fact that there are people willing to contribute. I don’t mind rewrite these “rules” in another way, but there will always be loopholes. For example, 2e: “A game is won when one of both guilds wipes out the other guild or when the opposing guild leader forfeits the game”. What if they have 2 thieves who keep being in stealth and keep fighting or ressing. What if the guild leader doesn’t forfeit it because the rules say.
I know there is not one decent leader that would do that, but the possibilities are there. We all love GvG but to grow even more and attract even more guilds into it we should create a platform.
BTW, if anyone wanna help rewrite them, just give me a PM, I’m always open for help and suggestions.
General reply:
One of the reasons I would like to “install” the obligated GvG’s is because over time it will bring balance to the ladder. We are searching for a formula that will make sure that those matches will most likely happen between even/closely ranked guilds. This way the ladder will restore itself. Problem is that there aren’t enough guilds atm who registered. Guilds from Piken are with 12 / Vizunah only 2. This is thus an issue.

As long as the website is not limiting in recording numbers then I don’t care. If it’s recorded and doesn’t count towards whatever size ranking then it’s fine. But what we’re trying to point out is exactly that: it’s your opinion and we disagree, so it seems weird to make it a rule. But speaking of ranking, if we are actually maintaining ranking on the website, is it going to be a unified ranking for all sizes?
I cannot answer this question, I do know they are reworking the website (read it in some other threads). I do feel it would be difficult to split up the different sizes at this point because we don’t have enough active GvG-guilds. We are currently testing the second post, to check if a setup like that is even possible and which things we have to take into account. The number of participants you choose is one of the things that does matter.
Why create a pseudo-ranking system that people will drool over when it is pointless?
My whole issue is: since these rankings have been implemented, people who are just now getting into GvG will use them to judge, grief, troll etc other guilds because “you suck” etc.
I’d hate to see people use those rankings to predetermine skill rather than stepping up and fighting them to see for yourself.
In my experience we don’t need these ranking to get GvG-denials. When a good guild does his WvW-raid on a Borderland and wipes a guild of the opponents time after time, they are afraid to accept a GvG because of their history. You can see it on the battlefield where whole guilds run away from you when you are just approaching.
I think EP has proven that everyone has a chance to win if they have the guts to try it.
They lost to Agg before, now they won. This both in controversy with their ranking AND their history.
And it is not the higher ranked guilds that are mostly declining. It’s the middle ranked. I personally don’t care about that rank, I just wanna get better at the game.
(edited by Elder Sang.2058)
This is a good call. I think 10s, 15s, 20s, 25s, and 30s should all be allowed. Heck, I wouldn’t even be opposed to allowing 5v5. 5v5 would probably need a different ladder though, and could theoretically be handled in sPvP.
5v5 is imho sPvP. Personally I’m not into 10v10 2 but I discussed these set of rules with some people already and we decided that taking out 10v10 would realy hurt the GvG scene because it excludes smaller less hardcore guilds.
On the other hand 30s are more about blobbing, not everyone has a computer that can play that kind of blobbing without lagfast and even less guilds will play that because of the numbers (I don’t know a lot of guilds who can pull that one off). 25s, we discussed it and same reasons as 30s come forth, little bit less though, but we are still a growing scene, so who knows what the future will bring. Besides, check the first rule, you can always adapt in mutual agreement
Why aren’t 10v10’s accepted?
It is, sorry slipped out between typing in word and posting on the forum
Why is there a limit at all? Also, did you miss something here: “c. If any player of either participating guilds, who is not included in agreed number of players, interferes with the GvG, that games”
Adapted, lols, my word is not nice 2 me

Last point
This is something I’m checking out with the designer of GW2GvG, I do not know if it can be implemented but it would make the scene even more active, even for higher ranked guilds. I will not write this in the rules version yet because I do not know if this can be or should be implemented (I don’t know much about programming so I hope someone could find a solution).
On every reset the website http://www.gw2gvg.com will check which matchups have been made. Then it will determine which guilds are in each matchup.
From these guilds he will make a random selection so every guild will have at least 1 GvG it is compelled to participate in. Both guilds are linked to each other for that matchup and have to have a GvG that week. They can still choose how to play and when to play, etc. but this way you have an official GvG that week. I hear a lot of High-tier guilds complaining no one wants to accept their challenges, so this could be some sort of solution to activate the scene even more.
If a guild doesn’t accept the challenge on http://www.gw2gvg.com the opposing guild will get a bonus of some sort for accepting the challenge. If a guild fails to do his obligated GvG for 3 weeks (or something like that), it will be set on none active until the contact reactives it.
Guilds can still do friendly and/or official GvG if they want. Who am I to tell you can’t.
Please discuss in an orderly fashion – I know you can do it
First remark: This is not a discussion about the existance and the right to exist of GvG. GvG exist on a player based manner and this thread will give everyone involved with GvG a chance to give their remarks. I will ask the moderators to close this thread a week after the start (so next wednesday) at which point I will make a final conclusion about the rules
These rules are based on discussion on the official GW2 forum (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Unofficial-GvG-Scene-Thread/first) so we have included as many voices as we can. Some rules people will agree on, other rules they won’t. Most of these “rules” are already the unwritten rules of GvG, now put together to have a nice summary.
In the proposition I will also sometimes explain the mentality behind a rule. In the final version, that will appear on http://www.gw2gvg.com I will remove these explanations. I started to make a definition of GvG to work further from that and implement all the ideas of the thread mentioned above.
If you want to react: quote the phrase you like to react to and try to improve the statement with constructive criticism or a better way to formulate the phrase. Please do not tear it down with useless “this will not work”/ “Because I don’t like it” / “That’s a stupid rule”. Give us some more details to work with please.
Here we go:
PROPOSITION: RULES OF CONDUCT for GvG
General remark: These are not strict rules. If guilds want to implement other rules, they can do this by mutual agreement.
1. Definition of GvG:
GvG consists of two guilds fighting each other in open field battle using only their knowledge of the different professions, the cohesion of their guild and the composition of the terrain to claim victory over the opposing guild.
2. GvG composition
a. A GvG consist of at least 5 and at most 19 games.
b. Guilds can choose between following formats:
- “Best out of …”; where an uneven number of games is predetermined
- “First until …”; where the number of winning games is predetermined
c. A GvG will not continue if one of both teams has won 10 games.
Explanation: this way scores can differ between 1-0 and 10-9. When the level rises and two equal guilds meet, we have to state an end game. 9-9 will be like the “Golden Goal in soccer”. No one will want to end a GvG when it’s 5-6 or 8-7.
d. The guild with the most games won, wins the GvG
e. A game is won when one of both guilds wipes out the other guild or when the opposing guild leader forfeits the game.
3. Team composition
a. On each side there is one guild.
Explanation: we don’t have any terrain that can take a double gvg without disrupting the WvW.
b. Each guild can bring 10, 15 or 20 players in the GvG. This number has to be equal on both sides so no guild can gain a numerically advantage over the opposing guild.
c. If any player of either participating guilds, who is not included in the agreed number of players, interferes with the GvG, that game is automatically lost by the guild of the interfering player.
d. There are no general restrictions on the usage of a profession and the number of the same profession.
4. Professions / Builds
a. There is no interdiction on the use of Professions
b. There is no interdiction on the use of Skills
c. There is no interdiction on the use of Equipment
d. Exception on rule 4c: Every player has to clear the stacks they have gathered on weapons/equipment using sigils (ex. Bloodlust) before entering a GvG. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCE should stacks gained in a previous round be allowed to remain.
5. Buffs/Boosts
a. Buffs/boosts that are allowed:
- Food
- Slayer potions
- Maintenance oils
- Sharpening stones
- Tuning crystals
b. Buffs/boosts that are not allowed:
- +15% Gathering and 10% Swiftness Banner
- Kite Fortune
- Road Marker
- Armor Booster
- Speed Booster
- Strength Booster
- Rejuvenation Booster
Explanation: In my opinion, and from what I have read on the forum this is an easy one. Or everyone takes it or no one. I think the second one is better.
6. Terrain composition / Open field battle
a. This terrain is suggestive, if new areas are found more suitable for GvG they can be added to this paragrapgh.
b. GvG terrain: The windmil
- North: Third treeline

c. The terrain can be used to gain advantage on the opposing guild.
d. Building siege is not allowed (unless for ceremonial usage).
e. Before every game, spectators are asked to remove all possible rally content off the terrain.
7. Spectators
a. Spectators are players who are not actively participating in the GvG
b. Spectators cannot in whatever way interfere with a game. When a game is finished spectators can revive the fallen allies.
c. Spectators should behave in a decent manner, we are all there to enjoy the GvG

Oh btw, I agree that the EU scene is further ahead (thanks to RG and their legacy) but I enjoy the fact US is rapidly closing the gap. Would be awesome that in a few months some guilds from EU would cross to US and vice versa. Just for fun.
And one of the most important things on this thread: props to Agg for admiting their defeat. Since they were rank 1 they had lots to lose but they didn’t care anyways. Props for the real GvG spirit.
Just another day of FS WvW reporting (See Attachment).
P.S. Thanks FIRE for letting TUP fight us first (AoA, back at your spawn) instead of just rolling us over with your forces combined!
No problem at all, it’s our unwritten law to let other guilds smush with other guilds when there is 1 guild vs another guild. We only engage other guilds fighting when asked for help or there is multiple guilds on the enemy side.
So does most of all the other WvW raiding guilds on Aurora Glade aswell, unfortunately, not all guilds and servers share the same view as us others.
I second that. We had great 2 guild vs 2 guild fights last night in our BL.
Kale + PunK vs FIRE + VcY.
I never had the feeling on of both side blobbed, just 2 bataljons fighting and manoeuvering to get the upper hand. Great fights
Edit: Yup, thanks for the smush FIRE and VcY. Got an easy target from us today. Kalevala canceling today’s event. Cu all tomorrow.
To bad you left us all so soon. Wasn’t that easy target actually, you guys put up a good fight.
Again guys, very nice discussion, good arguments pro and counter.
I know there are voices against setting up basic rules, but it is not our goal to regulate or ban everything. Just some basic stuff. Just like everyone else, I would love to see this grow and I feel it can only grow if you have enough freedom to explore the bounderies of the setup. I am, as we speak (or write ), trying to find out some stuff with Marty from gw2gvg, and writing a first draft of some general rules. Please don’t shoot me down for it, wait until the draft is finished, then you can kill me.
What WvW distincts of PvP is the fact we are free to get any build, any food any weapon in the game. This is a thing that should be preserved.
Yes I get the point of people saying Warbanners are less spectacular for the spectators, but it is a part of WvW and so it should be of GvG.
This is the fun factor in GvG: " YOU HAVE TO BE READY TO TAKE EVERYTHING". So if they run warbanner, make sure you focus the downed hard and fast. Use tangling roots to counter the warrior that runs in to ress… There are several ways to handle that situation, it’s up to the raid leader to find what is best to overcome them.
And the victory of EP over Agg proves my earlier mentioned point. Meta is changing and will continue to change. Without knowing the outcome of this matchup I asked a thief to stay on his thief on our raid. Just to test out some stuff. And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. You only learn by trying. I’m currently checking if their is an engineerbuild that could work (even though this one seems a bit harder )
Off topic, props to EP, didn’t see the footage but beating Agg isn’t a small thing.
Just fyi, a real skilled open field team that wins fights with the SAME classes everyday 85+% of the time will be a better representation of whose guild is better.
With all do respect, I never changed my build depending on the opponents. Only changes were the changes on traits and skills by Anet by which I had to adapt. On our (almost daily) guild raids of at least 3-4h, we only die against the big zergs. Always running our own builds, made for raids/GvG. GvG builds are made to rely on eachother. I have a build that supports my fellow raiders not only myself. Difference between PvP and GvG I guess.
5 man teams are roamers or belong, for competitive reasons, in tPvP.

I feel nourishments add another depth to the whole scene. For example, choosing between sharpening stones and maintenance oils. Or, will you boost your power or your precision. It makes a whole difference on damage, crits etc.
I think it’s already an unofficial rule to not place siege (to use it “o holy flameram”). It would be a stupid idea to do it because the current meta indeed relies on movement and positioning.
What about the location? Between the Northwest tower of every BL/the north west exit of the spawn (with a road in the middle) and the north supply camp, there is a nice open terrain. Offc, the distance for the none-homeland guild is pretty far, but the terrain is much larger.
Other external factors will help as well such as when the gw2gvg website is updated so people are not overly concerned with their rankings
Check on that, we can’t get any unofficial official GvG this week :’(
Any restrictions on skills prevents GvG from remaining an accurate representation and simulation of real open field fights. I use GvG to improve for open field fights, and there are no skill restrictions there.
I can find myself in this opinion. If you look at the evolution of open field battle, one of the mayor changes that happened was nerfing the Mesmer. Open field used to be about portalbombs, 4-5 mesmers in a crew with distortion builds etc. Anet nerfed the mesmer and the portals (20 uses), so the scene adapted. With every change Anet brings forward, we will adapt to that.
There is a reason why several professions aren’t that frequently included in guild raids. Some professions are better suited for an open field battle then others, that’s a fact.
I think, if we limit the amount of usage of a skill, we find ourselfs on the territory of PvP, with adapted set of rules and skills. Warbanners aren’t always a good thing. Don’t forget the downed penalty still applies. Each time someone is bannered, they get closer to instant death.
Btw, on a general note, I like this discussion. Most posters talk about the OP, which means this is not a topic about “should GvG exist”, but it’s a topic about “GvG exists and we want to set some general unofficial rules”. Thank you for this.
If we can discus some other topics, I will try to create a first draft of these rules. So let’s discuss
What about the different buffs? I for one think that foodbuffs should be allowed.
On the other hand I don’t like the armorbooster/speedbooster/strenght booster/rejuvination booster/kite fortune. This can be obtained by buying (and drops if you get lucky), so people with money gain advantage on an rather unfair way.

To what does our serious cooperation own this honour?
I had a serious time holding FS off our terv last evening in EB, for which I gratefully thank our community. We want to thank PunK and DW for the resistance we had from , and ofcourse not forgetting all their associates (PooP, rly?). Think we all died the same amount of times. But god there were so many of you, I thought I was on SFR again fighting Viz.
Hope to see you soon on the battlefield and hopefully in GvG.

In other words, we need an actual framework in place for this even if Anet never provides one.
We could start a discussion about this, and after say like two weeks, we end the discussion at which point we put some minds together to create the framework. I’ll make a post later this evening or tomorrow in the WvW-discussion forum to start this (with some more background scraped from all the GvG-related topics).
Of course, we can’t completely shut down everything thats goes wrong, but it can help that every guild uses this set of rules, so we have a more fair and honest competition.
Nothing personal man, but I would have signed it if it wasn’t tacked onto the back of your own personal suggestions for the format, some of which I just don’t agree with.
None taken, everyone has a right to his/her opinion. I even deleted the link in the post so it’s an open sheet.
imo GvG mode is going to be implemented… the question is when, not if. Ofc the specifics will be up to Anet and only to them… dont expect to be consulted, its not their style.
But honestly, it would be foolish to overlook the potential of a community driven activity that fits perfectly in the game theme. Looks like an easy implementation too.
I think if they stall even longer (up to 6 months because we haven’t had any signals in that direction) they will lose a lot of players who like WvW and GvG. In our guild we have several people who drop out because of that reason. I am not complaining, just stating facts. I wonder if RG would have left if there was an official GvG-scene. That’s ofcourse a question that will remain open, but I have the feeling we are losing a lot of potential. If Anet wants to implement it their way, I’m fine with that. The only mistake they can’t make is that is becomes a version of sPvP, only with more people. That’s why we have WvW, with the capping, sieging, etc.
As to everyone, don’t hesitate to spread out this petition, I’m not the owner of this idea, I’m just the conductor
We are a booming part of GW2. In only one month we went from 59 EU-guilds and 39 US-guilds to 99 EU-guilds and 79-US guilds, only on the unofficial website (GW2GvG).
Someone said there were about 3500 players, I say in each GvG-guild we have an average of 30 players. This means +5000 players. If we all unite we can send a message to GW2, so I started a petition today to create an official GvG-setup.
If we can have +5000 signatures we can prove Anet there is a large enough demand. Please sign with your ingame name.
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/official-gvg-setup-in-gw2/
And for the pessimists under our ranks, if we don’t try, we’ll never know if this might work.
Made a reddit to enlarge the posibility on discussion:
And my topic was removed to suggestions too.
I support this suggestion, i mean idea
I think it’s not possible due to different reasons.
I there can’t be 40 or 50 people inside one arena, there are some problems with food I heard and I think WvW deserves their own attention and not just a spin-off.
Then if a guild wants to go to war with another guild, the system will load an empty instance with one guild’s keep on one side and the other guild’s keep on the other in a ‘2 forts’ style fashion.
This is added
The idea would be for the guilds to fight it out and capture some relic/flag etc from the enemy castle etc etc.
This is an idea that will turn GvG into a large tPvP. GvG is not meant to be a “capture the flag”. The GvG as it exists today and in all his uniqueness is just your team vs the other team, last man standing.
Winners would get ‘currency’ to just improve the cosmetics of the keeps. This way everyone’s keep is roughly the same size and shape but guilds that do well can add fancy things to it to make it feel unique.
Could be an idea, but at the start it’s not necessary imho.
Unless is missed it while reading: add in the option to challenge your own server guilds too!
Added to the list
GvGvGvG….
A map were guilds are all enemy of eachother, and you find people who want to fight as a guild, not versus keeps and doors.
Added to the list as an expansion.
Could be so simple, a map similar to wvw without capture points. Groups/guilds can make a rooster to get in before they start, the system sorts them into a map with similar guild group sizes. And finally we can have real action. Fighting, teamplay and real excitment, not the “excitement” of placing siege =.=
You definitly get my point
If someone likes the idea and would like to help me expand it, don’t hesitate to contact me by pm or IG. This weay we can develop this idea even further and hope Anet will implement.
If you support this idea, please vote it up, we need +5000 votes before Anet hears us.
Proposition
I propose the making of a Cross-server GvG-structure, where all the guilds from all over the world can participate at. It should be possible in the current setting, otherwise guesting wouldn’t be possible.
The advantage of this project is that you can take several existing elements from other parts of GW2 and adapt them a bit. I will give some examples.
The score table/leaderboard
- This is already used in WvW, PvP, sPvP, tPvP. Another list based on these isn’t hard to do
Terrain options
- You can make very easy-going terrains. The most beautiful example is the terrain in WvW where the GvG’s are currently held between SE and SW spawn. It has to be mainly open terrain, some soft slopes/hard slopes, nothing to fancy. The setting at that place is beautiful, with the mountain, the water, the little forest and the mill.
- No need for capturing points as the purpose is to just wipe the other team
- That area is precisely right if you look at the size, enough place to move around, retreat and heal up, etc. It doesn’t have to be bigger then that.
- The coliseum of Rome could be a nice setting
Starting point
- Something like the PvP-area where you can form your teams. Or something like in GW1 with the guild mansion.
- The people of those teams go and stand on a portal and one person of each party start the countdown for his party.
- You spawn like you do in PvP-arena, but also like in dragon ball arena or similar.
- This way you can limit the number of players who join the battle, and you have to be in a party of at least 4 to be able to enter.
- Once you enter the portal you get to a spawn point. After the start the spawn point stays open for 30s. If you are not out it closes and you can’t play that round.
- Guild-keeps could be implemented, the system will load an empty instance with one guild’s keep on one side and the other guild’s keep on the other in a ‘2 forts’ style fashion
Rules
- To participate you have to be part of the guild (wear the tag + represent)
- Only an officer can start the GvG.
- You have to choose between 15v15 / 20v20 / 25v25. Ofcourse, both guilds have to choose the same number.
*You can not go random (perhaps later) you can contact the guild contact who is on the leaderboard next to the guild. - Only format is death match, every opponent has to be dead. You can die completely twice. If you get resurrected you can participate again. The third time you die completely you get portaled back to your spawn and you cannot enter anymore for that round.
- You can choose if stacks received in the fight can be used, but at the start of a GvG every stack will be gone.
- Win = every opponent is dead. First to get 10 wins gains victory in that GvG.
Advantages
There are several advantages to implementing this system.
- Less players will be leaving GW2 due to the new challenge.
- Less server switch, which makes the total WvW-scene much more attractable and more stable.
- The level of WvW will rise, Guilds will use WvW as a training ground, resulting in even more beautiful battles. GvG will only count as the real competition.
- Guilds can fight guilds of their own server too.
- There is no real reward. Or nothing especially designed for GvG. It’s for the glory of being the best GvG-guild in the world.
Possible Expansions
GvGvGvG
- A map were guilds are all enemy of eachother, and you find people who want to fight as a guild, not versus keeps and doors. This means a little bit large map and 4 spawnpoints on each side with no real advantage from either spawnpoint.
I hope A-net reads this plea. Please do make suggestions to improve this idea even more and vote it up if you would love this feature as hard as I do. I don’t mind criticism, but please make it so I can use stuff you say.
Tl;dr: We need GvG-setting, please vote up
(edited by Elder Sang.2058)
I would like to make a proposal to integrate a feature into GW2 that already exist from the player community.
My proposition : Cross-Server GvG
Why
There are world-wide a bunch of Guilds who have their focus primarily on World versus World. Most of them like it for the tactics, wiping bigger groups with you small group, roaming, fighting real wars against real opponents, conquer castles and keeps. Everyone who has ever seen films like LOTR 2 wants to be in the battle of helmsdeep or LOTR 3 the fight for Minas Tirith, where small armies destroy the huge army of Sauron (ok, the army of the undead was a little OP).
I have been in WvW from the start, been commanding ever since. I’ve seen the shift between going for points and be the strongest server, towards guilds that want to have good fights. Lots of guilds hate the lag, hate the blobs of +100 people in T1, hate queues, but have to stay in a top 9 tier server to encounter other guilds of the same level and have the epic fights they are thriving for.
As you can see on www.gw2gvg.com there are atm 59 EU-guilds and 39 US-guilds who are organizing their own unofficial GvG’s. This is not that easy because you have to trust the honesty of your opponents, it’s a lot of work to organize a GvG, AND you can’t fight every guild you want due to the fact you are stuck to a server, so you will never know who is the strongest guild. Certainly not between US and EU servers.
A possible solution could be guesting a server and then entering WvW, but we all know that this will lead to more spying in the normal WvW, so this is out of the question. Switching servers is not a solution, it’s 2 costly after a while, certainly if you have to bring over +30 people every time. People won’t do it and this will result in the death of the GvG-scene or could lead to abuse of external resources (buying ingame money). The only way to really compete at this time is you gather all WvW/GvG-guilds in the same three servers, which means you destroy the WvW on those servers (to much people on it, lags, queues, unplayable, look at matchups with Vizunah) and destroy the WvW on the other servers (why try if we never will beat those three servers).

Golden Horde [GH] from Deso vs. Velocity [VcY] from Vizunah :-D
hav fun!
VcY is not a french Team from Vizunah, they are in SFR.
Indeed we are from SFR
It is funny, we have video’s of constantly whiping you, you have video’s of constantly whiping us.
really? can´t remember getting whiped by [VcY] ever, can u link me this video?
Dunno where I saw it, but it did happen (I was there, as I was there when we got whiped by you) . You should check our channel, perhaps you can see your tag somewhere on the ground

Gratz on the vid, it was nice to see someone admit when there are too much opponents in their own video. +1
This is our latest video (it was against Deso in the garrison-gate-fight )

I would like to thank Anet for everything. There are 2 many ragers out there and it is funny to see them going , but at the end you did very nice job and I hope we will get some more stuff like this.
Only remark is the culling bug and not getting a meteorshower but 10 karkas on my head :P, but I know you are allready trying to fix that problem, so keep up the spirit, there are still a lot of people who love you for what you have done and what you will do.
Thanks
Hello everyone!
We at Legends of Sacred Light are a guild that has a strong PvE and Dungeon base and we are looking for more people to join us in our atm small but very experienced WvW-crew.
At this moment we have about 200 dutch-speaking members who will fight with us, but more people are always welcome!
History:
We are an old Guild Wars 1 guild playing under an adapted name. In Guild Wars 1 we were known by the names Legion of Sacred Light Sacred and Lords of Light, and with the advent of Guild Wars 2 we have chosen to change the name to Legends of Sacred Light.
Although Sacred Light Gaming is an international clan, in Guild Wars 2 the Guild is completely Dutch for communicational reasons (TS3).
Audience:
Our target group is dutch speaking WvW-players. We look for people who can act mature, aged about 18 years. Age will count as an indicator, but not as a minimum requirement. We want to create a gaming environment where everyone has fun.
Our goal:
Our goal is to create a large base where dutchspeaking players can find eachother to play at the battlefields of WvW. This way we can coordinate larger groups of people and defend the honor of this server in a better way.
Interested?
Are you interested to join us? really great! Do not hesitate to send a pm or have a look at our website:
http://www.sacredlightgaming.com
Of course you are able to reach us in Guild Wars 2: Elder Sang (other names can be found on our website).
