I agree that the rating system should be tweaked to ensure fairness. Lots of you believe that SF likes being in tier 8 because we win, but it gets boring without a challenge. 4 straight weeks with the same two servers makes it even worse. I personally don’t have an idea as to how they should go about changing this (other than the far-fetched idea of hiring staff to manually arrange the rankings to ensure no server dominates, but we all know that won’t happen), but I do agree wholeheartedly.
Somebody was ranting about Sorrow’s Furnace in your conversation, I just want to stress that we aren’t choosing to remain in Tier 8 — please don’t put the blame on us. I don’t understand where all of the hatred comes in; SF is probably the friendliest server I’ve been in anyway.
Congratulations to SF for finally moving out of the black hole known as tier 8
It seems you are doing well. Perhaps one day I will meet my old friends on the battlefield.
..Or maybe someday I’ll see you at a table in a restaurant in France. Perhaps we will both be with our future families. We’d smile and wave but go our separate ways.
+1 point if you catch that reference
Game Over
As much as I love this content, it should not stay in the game – for the same reason that Wintersday and Halloween content never stayed in the game – it’s event material. The kind of content that gets you into the spirit of the event, but after a while gets stale and boring. This month will be very fun with SAB, but if we kept it in the game any longer it would collect dust and grinders.
Also, if the developers put in work for this, it would destroy the resources they could have used on the game, such as other events or expansions.
Take other competitive games like League, for example, where you must lock in your champion before even seeing your enemies champions. (I’m not very familiar with League so excuse me if that’s not accurate) — and I know, GW2 is not a moba, but in any competitive type of game where counter builds exist, that kind of system is absolutely necessary.
Just watched the expac reveal and it’s pretty disappointing (but honestly not too surprising) that nothing about WvW or PvP was mentioned. Anet ruined and neglected these game modes to their deaths, and now that they killed the population for both game modes they can just pretend WvW and PvP don’t exist.
But I’m betting these new elite specs will introduce another power creep to try to force WvWers and PvPers to buy the expac anyway. Oh well, money talks and we’ll see how many WvW/PvP players want to buy an entire expac just for elite specs.
Hahaha I don’t mean this in a rude way, but I really think yall are being too sensitive. This is GW2 PvP, not hello kitty’s island adventure. Why does it bother you so much? Just look away from the screen if it really hurts your feelings LMFAO it doesn’t effect gameplay so I really could care less about it.
I will say, OP has a point that it prevents people from being able to finish fights after the match which could be seen as a bad thing, and as someone else mentioned you can’t port to places like your guild hall if you’re on the losing team. Those are good points.
The world linking system is garbage and should be abandoned, but I doubt that will happen. ANet is making too much money off of people bandwagoning to linked servers, so they have no interest in unlinking servers.
Fortunately I did not play during the time that was rolled back, but I know it must be frustrating for those who did. People who played for the full 2+ hours probably feel like they wasted all that time, but think of it this way: If you were having fun, did you really waste any time?
During the downtime, I realized that the game is not about the achievements and gold that we end up with. It’s about the enjoyment that we get out of playing, and the time we spend with our friends, regardless of the pixel rewards that we earn. Your character may be rolled back, but that doesn’t take the experience away.
Props to anet for handling the situation as best as they could, and keeping the community updated throughout the day.
Is this treaty of yours even necessary? Seriously, when was the last time you saw ET attack FC or vice-versa anyway?
It’s expected that you hit SF when we’re the ones in your borderlands and EB territory. You could impose this treaty all you want, SF has been fighting 2v1 matches ever since we started winning against you two. This treaty means nothing.
This glitch happens once in a while where my WvW queue pops, and I click “travel” only to be sent back to the “Eternal Battlegrounds is full. Would you like to queue?” prompt.
Pls fix this annoying glitch, I don’t like sitting in two queues.
Okay, heres little old me running around trying to get map completion done in WvW. I think its hilarious that I get zerged by 10-20 people that chase me down and kill me.
Would some explain why I matter that much?
What exactly were you doing to signal to opponents that you were looking to do map completion?
What’s to stop someone else like a scout from doing the same thing.
The only time WvW is PvE is when it’s PvD. You enter the portal to WvW and you’re not in Kansas anymore.
I have to agree with this guy. ANet put vistas and points of interest in WvW for a reason — they wanted it to be a risk to get all of them. You enter WvW and it’s fair game anywhere, whether you’re exploring, doing the puzzle, or whatever. You could be scouting for your team, or trying to get free seige by getting map completion. In a war, it wouldn’t be very smooth to let the enemy have free seige, no?
I let my kids – ages 6 and 8 – role up characters on my account. I have a great time watching them huddle around the computer playing GW2, especially when they jump into WvW. “Get the yak!” “Follow the commander!” and other lines are priceless coming from the 6-year old. The best part is when they go to bed and I clean up their inventory (they don’t know what to sell vs merchant) and find several badges collected from their fun.
Using children as slaves for badges?
Reported.
:)
Just asking if we could eventually get a separate leaderboard for solo queuers. Two good players duo queueing have a big advantage over a good player solo queuing in terms of climbing the ladder, which is why all of the top ranked players strictly duo queue.
I don’t think you should be forced to party with someone if you want to have a chance at getting a good rank in the end.
Or they could, you know, give you some marks for completing chest tiers, like they do in PvP…
TAC does not support hacking/exploiting. We have been on Eredon for a long time, and have never resorted to exploiting. We will tell our members not to participate in it as well.
Thanks for the response — I’ve never personally seen a TAC involved in glitching, but I’m glad to see one of the officials has it under control anyway.
Best of luck to ET and FC in your new tiers when Friday arrives, after 3 resets with you fellows, my comrades and I are happy to move on. Regarding those who are upset about this match and Sorrow’s deep winning margin, don’t worry. It looks like we’re heading into Tier 1 next week due to the rating reset, where we will be destroyed until we get to a tier that accepts us. We’re saving you that trouble
We were in your position 13 weeks in a row. What we did is improve.
I wasn’t at DR garrison in this instance so I can’t really say anything (although I highly doubt BP could cap anything without 5:1 numbers), but I find this statement hilarious. If by improve you mean “get more numbers” this statement would be correct.
Whether you like it or not, BP is a zerg server. With your numbers you should easily be in tier 4, if not tier 3, but you are left in tier 5 due to your lack of skill and tactics. Just another IoJ here everybody, nothing more to see.
Mag’s NA presence is really awesome so if an oceanic guild is looking for a new home, MAG would be a good place. We DB, are moving to T2, WM on KN is rumored to have disbanded(not sure, no idea) so they could use some people! MAG’s are well skilled and joy to talk to in game. Highly recommend
Last I heard, WM got hit with mass bans for, and here’s the shocker, botting.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
So I don’t know if ArenaNet plans to fix this, but right now I can determine the outcome of the match based on which team has the better bunker ele…
Problems I see with this:
1. If one team has a bunker ele and the other team does not, the team with the bunker ele will most likely win. It’s not fun knowing the outcome before the match even starts.
2. Eles who don’t use the standard bunker builds are useless. There is no room for build variety here because we NEED the bunker ele to win.
3. This one is more opinion-based, but player versus player is a place where you should be fighting other players. While I do think bunkers deserve a place in PvP, I do not think the outcome of the match should heavily rely on players who don’t actually kill other players. The match should be based on who could fight the best, not who can stay on a captured point and survive the longest.
This is just a quick post I wanted to make to see if anyone else noticed this problem. I understand not everyone will agree with me, so let me know if you think I’m wrong on any points.
The community has been asking for the"Holy Trinity" for years. The new Ele is the old monk.
I for one really like having a healer class. As a cleric ele, I can seldom down anyone. I can survive and prevent a decap 1v1 or more. My main job though is to stay as close to my damage dealers as possible and pour boons on them.
Now if I could also do serious damage, ( other than by easily interrupted overloads, ) that would be an issue.
I actually think the bunker ele is not overpowered in team fights or the actual fighting aspect of the game — it works and makes the fight interesting.
But, with the conquest scoring system, they can survive on capture points forever and really juice the points until the game ends. That’s where I see them being overpowered, because the scoring system really works in their favor.
Of all things wrong with SF, I must agree with Gisei that our most difficult area is teamwork and coordination. This is likely because many SF players are very new to WvW. Every day I try to encourage more of the server to start playing WvW — eventually I believe these new players will become more experienced, and thus able to follow directions better. Right now I’d say we’re Tier 7 material, but when these newer players begin to understand the basics of WvW, we could really take a bigger stance in the rankings.
Then again, it isn’t all about winning for us. Winning just means harder opponents to face next time, and a bigger queue. What I truly believe would be the best WvW experience is to see the community working together, whether we have 0 areas or all of them. Hopefully we don’t get caught up in the fact that we’re being destroyed next week too much, at least long enough to realize that we’re still a team and no amount of losing can change that. We fight for fun, not to win.
meh, you guys deserve it.
I know that spawn camping ruins all of the fun (trust me, I’ve been spawn camped for hours in matches before), but you must understand that in some circumstances it is absolutely necessary. For instance, yesterday Ferg kept pushing straight for their keep for a while, we defended it as best as we could at the keep, but without upgrades it was only a matter of time before the gates were breached. We needed to spawn camp in order for things to cool down before pulling back. Things like this happen all of the time when we need to block reinforcements to hold our ground. We are always trying to improve in ways like that to prepare ourselves for the many weeks of fighting stronger opponents ahead.

That’s kinda my point, the issue does not occur if one is some distance away from the blob v blob. We all die in this game and of course want to get right back into the middle of SMC. Respawning at spawn/keep and there’s no skill lag/lag what so ever until you’re approximately at the outer walls of SMC.
In my experience, skill lag occurs across the whole map when there’s a big fight going on. Trust me, when walking back to SMC from spawn, I use swiftness/leap skills to get back quickly, and these skills will often take several seconds to cast.
I want a third bl, and maybe some new types of siege.
Having two alpine and one desert bl is awkward. Desert borderland is only so widely hated because it was clearly meant for gliding, which they left disabled for some reason, so it’s hard to navigate. If they made a new borderland it should be smaller, and flatter considering there won’t be gliding.
Well I’m not sure if it’s balacend, but I do think it’s balanced
One of Takerukun’s posts in the other thread explains what is going on (emphasis mine)…
Thanks for posting these, very helpful.
So really there’s no way out of Tier 8 without a lot of time, even if all three servers are working to push one of them out. And it will be even worse the next time a server gets sucked into the black hole that is Tier 8. This definitely requires ArenaNet intervention, no doubt about it.
Lol, some SF ordered merchants while FC was @ inner of their keep, wasting 300 supply while we were already scarce. Either we have a case of a spy, or someone who is really bad lol.
We defended it still, but just something to note.
As you can see in the screenshot, my winrate is better than people miles ahead of me on the leaderboard. I assume this is because I placed in gold while they placed higher.
10 placement matches either give you a massive boost or a massive deficit on the leaderboard, which doesn’t make sense to me. Can someone explain, why is this a thing?
Funny how some of you care about wvw so much, but don’t even bother to read the forums or dev comments…
As several people mentioned, and Mo mentioned in the AMA, we release on our own cadence and will continue to release updates for WvW outside of the expansion release.
I also wanted to let everyone know that today is all about announcing the expansion, but later this week we will be talking about some of the upcoming updates for WvW.
Funny how that was posted after I made this thread…
is it easier to bust walls or door?
It depends heavily on the circumstances, and it would take paragraphs upon paragraphs to explain when to use doors or walls.
But for a general answer:
If you have one ram against a non-upgraded gate and one catapult against a non-upgraded wall (so one tap will hit, no holding down of 2 required), with no defense at all… The ram would tear the gate down first and it also costs 10 less supply to build.
However, in no way am I saying it’s easier to bust doors down, because it varies every time.
I’m tired of getting in to matches with people who refuse to play. Reporting idle players doesn’t seem to do anything. Please let use choose who we play with.
You can queue with a 5-man premade, in unranked.
In ranked, you need to climb the ladder with your own skill. 5-man premades have the advantage over solo-queuers, so the leaderboards would not reflect actual skill if they were allowed. A solution would be to have a separate queue and leaderboard for premades, but there aren’t enough people playing to have that unfortunately.
DR is having tons of fun in our new tier. Lots of small-scale action and no massive DH zergs (and I haven’t seen any hacks lol)
Go SF, my old comrades!
